Charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp on valentines day. Today, prosecutors plan to outline why they believe pistorius murdered steenkamp. Pistorius admitted shooting steenkamp, saying he thought she was an intruder. That puts you in a tough spot legally. Ive got to believe that his best hope is for a lesser charge. Rather than an allout not guilty verdict. Reporter at yesterdays hearing, pistorius sobbed as his lawyers read his account of what happened. They were both sleeping, when he woke up and went to the balcony, when he heard a noise in the bathroom. In the pitch dark, he grabbed his gun. Noticed an open window and thought an intruder was hiding in the toilet room. Without wearing his prosthetics, he fired shots through the locked door. But steenkamp was in the toilet room, not an intruder. The lead Prosecutor Says she locked the door for a purpose. Well get to that purpose. Forensic experts who are looking at a number of things in this particular case. They will take trajectories to determine the height of the shooter. More breaking news overnight from southern california, where hundreds of drivers have been stranded by a sudden snowstorm. The Highway Patrol and road crews are now helping cars exit the roadway between l. A. And bakersfield. A 60mile stretch of highway had to be shut down. Ironically, the road was especially crowded because of worries that a section of busy interstate 5 would be closed by bad weather. And that same system pummeled northern california, bringing snow and this rare tornado to that part of the state. Cameras were rolling when this twister touched down in a rural area north of sacramento. Also from california, the motive remains a mystery after a shooting rampage in orange county. Police say it started when a college student, ali syed killed a woman at his home. They say syed killed two men while taking their cars, including one victim who was shot in the head executionstyle, as commuters watched on in horror. As Police Closed in, the 20yearold syed then shot himself. It looks like the u. S. Is preparing to strike back amid allegations about those massive Cyber Attacks being blamed on china. The white house will reportedly lay out aggressive steps today to fight the cyber crimes. The report comes after a Security Firm identified the shanghai building as the headquarters for chinas military hackers, accused of stealing secrets from u. S. Companies and government sites. Union workers are rallying, urging congress to avoid the looming budget cuts. Yesterday, president obama brought cops and firefighters to the white house to warn emergency workers theyll be the first to go if those cuts take effect. The deadline is less than ten days away. But for the first time, were now hearing recordings of a phone call made from a prison in new mexico. Authorities say it is the voice of 45yearold dana martin, telling one of the hitmen he had hired, how to strangle bieber and his bodyguard with a scarf. Tie it really, really tight. Reporter a longawaited moment since the Good Morning America anchor shared her diagnosis onair in june. It is something that is called mds, myelodysplastic syndrome. If youre going what . In the afternoon, sunny with temperatures topping out at 54 to 60. This evening we cool quickly in the lowtomid 40s. Sue . The Golden Gate Bridge has road work on the northern portion of the span coming off the waldo grade and you are down to one lane in the pickup process. In Los Altos Hills an accident southbound 280 blocking the left lane. Crews are there trying to get that out. Snow and ice on Mount Hamilton so Mount Hamilton road is closed to the observatory. San francisco intersection is flooded and neighbors are waking up without power or, rather, water, as they contain a water main break. Amy hollyfield is live on the scene. It is a mess. Although it is early i have commute information. Look at this intersection. Guess what is under that . The cable car line. It is early but officials decided to cancel the cable cars through this area for the morning commute and run a bus shuttle around it. They are not sure how long it will take to get this cleared or what kind of damage has been done so they will make the call early. They are being decisive. If you take the line, there will be a bus shuttle around this area. As far as the water issue goes, officials with the Water Department are still assessing exactly what they are dealing with and what the fix will be. They say right now they know a water main underground broke and they dont know how many or exactly where or how big the main is. These are all questions they are trying to get answers. As the water flooded the street, residents knew something was wrong right away. I wanted to brush my teeth but there was no water. I could only hear bubbles. I walk down the street and see this pest. It is amazing. I asked an employee with the Water Department how many people are without water and she said she wasnt aware, she doesnt know if any water has been turned off yet. She suspects water will be turned off while they do the fix. Decisionmakers with the Water Department are just now arriving and they are collaborating in the street walking upanddown trying to figure out what the solution is going to be, preparing and dealing with the situation.
