Thank you. Were following developing news out of antioch where an amber alert has been canceled. The girl has been found safe and her suspected kidnapper is in custody. Natalie calvo is back with family members this morning. Police are questioning 43yearold david douglas. They have not revealed what charges he faces. They earlier identified him as a person of interest in the girls abduction. Calvo was taken from her mother at gunpoint in front of their home on hummingbird drive around 6 45 last night. Douglas allegedly followed them home from a Walmart Store on loan tree way. They were unloading groceries when he grabbed the girl, pointed the gun at her mother and dragged the girl to his car. A woman flagged down a passing car. I went to my car and honked the horn to stop the car. The car that stopped was a Police Officer under cover. I kept honking the horn and he jumped out with the gun. We had a similar incident yesterday at the walmart where a mother was with her daughter and this individual who has been idd is a person we have in custody, approached her daughter and also approached her and noted he worked for social services and asked the daughter to come with him. Antioch police know douglas from previous encounters but say he is not a registered sex offender. The flu is being blamed for the death of a Santa Clara County woman in her early 40s. The first flu death for this season. Alan wang tells us why Health Officials are so alarmed were the cold and flu medicine has been flying off the shelves at this cvs store. Reporter Health Officials believe the flu season is just Getting Started and the death of a 41yearold woman along with the hospitalization of seven others here is raising red flags. Both the woman that died as well as the cases that have been in icu, theyve all been people in their 40s, 50s, fairly young people. Reporter the dominant strain so far this season is the h1n1 virus, also known as the swine flu, the one responsible for the womans death on december 23rd. The centers for Disease Control says it hits the young and middleaged harder than older people who may have developed some immunity after facing a similar strain in the 1940s and 50s. It is a cause for concern. Reporter many people question the vaccines effectiveness. Some years we take it and theres really we get sick anyway. Other years we dont take it and its the opposite. Reporter still Health Officials say it can reduce your chances of getting the virus by 50 to 70 . In san jose, alan wang, abc 7 news. 25 states seen here in red on the map reported widespread flu activity last week, up from just ten states the week before. The states in orange including california have significant flu activity but only in part of the state. Experts say so far it has been a typical flu season and h1n1 has been the most common strain. A new court ruling clears the way for the family of jahi mcmath to move the girl whos been declared brain dead out of Childrens Hospital oakland. Nick smith has the latest from oakland. Because its for my daughter. When you love your children the way i love mine, you go above and beyond. Reporter Nailah Winkfield went back to court. The judge ruled that Childrens Hospital can remove jahi mcmath from a ventilator on tuesday at 5 00 p. M. But her family is fighting to move her before then to another facility that will continue medical care. Im just happy that i know now that the courts theyre making it known the parents do have right. Reporter a 7 1 2hourlong settlement conference laid out the steps necessary to move the 13yearold. We will bring our own ventilator in. It will be a transfer to a ventilator. Jahi will exit the facility. Reporter the two procedures needed for jahi to be transferred will not be done at childrens and he isnt saying when or where theyre moving her, only that it would be as soon as possible. A superior court judge okayed the move as long as jahis mother assumes all responsibility for what happens during the transfer. She has surgery on what her family said was a routine tonsillectomy. Attorneys for the hospital say the two sides reached their agreement at superior Court Earlier in the day. By the terms of that stipulation, there is the possibility for jahi mcmath to leave the hospital and childrens is committed to that stipulation. Reporter the clock is ticking. A federal hearing in the case is set for tuesday at 1 00 p. M. Where the attorney for the family may ask the judge for an extension if jahi hasnt been moved. Happening today, activists will be rebuilding the memorial at the spot in santa rosa where 13yearold andy lopez was shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy. The originally memorial burned down wednesday night and some people believe someone torched it on purpose. But fire investigators determined a candle started the fire. At 11 00 this morning, volunteers will gather to rebuild the shrine of flowers, signs and candles vowing to make it better than before. Lopez was shot and killed by a Sonoma County sheriffs deputy on october 22nd while holding a toy gun designed to look like an ak47 assault rifle. In san rafael, police are investigating a fatal dump truck accident. 67yearold Olga Rodriguez died at the scene. The collision happened just after 12 15 yesterday afternoon as two people crossed heatherton street near third. The truck driver told police he didnt see the people. Officials say drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this accident. Authorities are investigating a Police Shooting in san jose yesterday afternoon. We were over cape horn drive in the area, not long after the shooting around 3 30 in the afternoon. San jose police were responding to a call of two men in their 30s fighting. They arrived to find one had a knife. Police say the officer asked the man to drop it. When he refused and came toward her, she shot him. The suspects wounds are not lifethreatening. Police want your help in identifying a burglar who was caught by surveillance cameras at the housing complex here. The man entered one of the apartments on Nelson Rising lane yesterday morning but left when he was confronted by a tenant there. Witnesses say the same man was seen rattling door handles earlier. Last check for the visibility, still an issue at sfo with an eighth of a mile. San carlos airport, a quarter of a mile. Along the coast, weve had some fog. This is all going to lift within the next hour and well be looking at not only better visibility but mostly sunny conditions despite that spare the air today. Well have another mild afternoon with 10 to 15 degrees above average. From the tower, you can see a little bit hazy out there. Morning coastal fog. It is chilly. And the spare the air day today, thats the fifth consecutive one. Cooler weather arrives for monday with increasing clouds. Possibility of a few light rain showers perhaps as we go into the day on tuesday. Heres our water vapor imagery. An abducted girl is safe and the suspect being questioned by police. Natalie calvo is back with family members after being rescued from a car that was parked at the antioch marina. Police are questioning this man, 43yearold david douglas. He was with her and believed to be the one who took her. Calvo was taken from her mother at gunpoint in front of their home last night. Douglas allegedly followed them home from a Walmart Store on lone tree way. They were unloading groceries when he grabbed the girl, pointed a gun at her mother and dragged natalie to his car. Later a pittsburg woman recognized the car from the amber alert in the antioch marina and flagged down a very fortunate passing car. I looked and saw a car passing. So i flagged another car down just so in case anything. And luckily the car i stopped was a policeman. Hes currently in custody and going through an interrogation at this point. Natalie is currently being reunited with her family. And this investigation obviously is in its early stages. Police identified douglas as a person of interest in this case after a similar incident at the Walmart Store on thursday night. Police say douglas posed as a social worker and tried to take another womans daughter but was scared off. Police say he is not a registered sex offender. Tonight president obama and the first family will return from their holiday vacation in hawaii. The president is urging congress to replace the Unemployment Benefits that more than 1 million americans lost last weekend when Congress Allowed them to expire. The president wants both parties to approve a threemonth extension thats already under consideration in the senate. When Congress Comes back to work this week, their first order of business should be making this right. Right now, a Bipartisan Group in congress is working on a threemonth extension on unemployment insurance. If they pass it, i will sign it. The warm temperatures and lack of raun have farmers in the Central Valley tornado about their crops. Winters in the San Joaquin Valley cause crops to grow dormant. But the ground is so dry, farmers have been forced to irrigate their crops one to two months ahead of schedule. Chandler says farmers are also concerned the warm weather could fuel diseases and pests that could destroy their crops. I have an 11yearold daughter. She is stuck in the washing machine. Dont ask me how. Reporter determined to beat her sisters and cousins, 11yearold trinity hit inside the washing machine and was stuck. She was hanging out of this part right here. I could only see from about here up. And she was quite panicked. Reporter at first, the kids employed their own rescue tactics before notifying any adults. They didnt want to be in trouble. Reporter so the kids pretreated her, so to speak. They got some butter, rubbed her up with butter, put Peanut Butter on her. Reporter even a rinse cycle. They tried ice and then warm water. Reporter eventually the local Fire Department had to be called. The patients been in there 45 minutes. She started to panic, complaining of a lot of pain, trouble breathing. Now weve got to just cut her out. Reporter after 90 minutes, she was finally freed. It was scarily. I thought they were going to cut me. Reporter but everything came out in the wash. At the end of the day, id rather find the humor in it than be worried about the what ifs. Federal officials said they told the sanctuary to repair the lion enclosure last february to present this kind of thij. A big detour for drivers who commute from the area from the stockton area. Highway 160 is going to be closed at night all next week. It connects highways 12 and 24. It will be off limits from 8 00 p. M. Till 5 00 a. M. From january 6th till january 10th. The bridge is getting a muchneeded facelift. Caltrans says the detour will force some commuters to drive as much as an extra 80 miles to reach their destination. There will be signs up alerting motorists of the closure and the detours. San joses Historic Landmarks Commission will consider the century 21 theater as a landmark. It was built in 1964. The attached flames restaurant which used to be a bobs big boy will also be considered. In San Francisco, jonathan bloom, abc 7 news. Going to be a sunny day but we have to get through some fog first. Yes, definitely on the peninsula. South of San Francisco at our beaches, Redwood Shores looking at dense fog and delays at sfo. If you are navigating along the coastline, you know about that. And within the next hour, by about 10 00, it should be e evaporating for the most part. 60s forecasted but we have an offshore flow allowing for some of that fog to linger and we are looking at sunshine in the south bay. With a few high clouds its been cool, so you were clear overnight. Right now, 41 degrees, looking at the poor air quality for the entire bay area. But around san jose, around santa clara, thats where those particulates will form at the surface. And another spare the air day. 45, Half Moon Bay with some fog. 44 in oakland. From mt. Tam, you can see the haze right there. Look at the freezing temperatures. 31 in santa rosa. Still just at freezing in napa. 36, novato. Mid30s for concord. Livermore sitting at 38 degrees. Heres a look at the visibility in miles with the airport down to an eighth of a mile and a quarter of a mile at the San Carlos Airport as well. Elsewhere, not bad. Doing a little bit better in oakland. A little bit more moisture in the atmosphere this morning. You can see the haze from our camera here. Coastal fog, it is chilly, of course, for the next several hours. By the afternoon, numbers once again well above average with a big ridge of High Pressure dominating our area. But that ridge will give way to some cooler weather and a couple of areas of low pressure will be visiting us next week bringing a few opportunities for rain. But right now, its all about High Pressure as it continues to build into the east of us. And with that upper level high, we get the offshore winds. The santa ana winds in southern california. So some problems there. But look at the jet stream. It is pushing the storm track well to the north. And this is more like a summertime scenario. Heres how cold it is across the nation and its going to get even colder. You see where the pink is. Thats where we have just 0 in fargo. And a weather system will continue to allow that arctic air mass to sink further south. Tomorrow, its the niners with at not only the coldest air of the season but dangerously cold windchill. Anywhere from 25 to 45 degrees below zero. And at 3 40, just 1 degree. By the end of the game, minus 4. So it is really going to be dangerously cold there. And well look for temperatures today once again not changing too much with 66 in oakland. 68 in fremont as well as santa cruz, Half Moon Bay with that fog lifting, 65. Perhaps a 70 in cloverdale. The accuweather sevenday forecast, spare the air day today. A few degrees of cooling, less fog tomorrow. The clouds increase on monday, tuesday and wednesday, possibility of a few showers. So not a lot of rain but at least the high will go away for a while during the middle of the week. Speaking of not highs but lows, we know the niner game is going to be crazy cold, like below zero.
