But we have a couple opportunities in the sevenday outlook. Ill show that to you in just a moment. Right now live doppler 7hd has pretty much the entire bay area, upper elevations, under a red flag warning. Also on the way to the sierra nevada, the sacramento valley. But we have dense fog from the Central Coast around here through santa barbara. So Higher Elevation winds push the fog away from the coast, trying out the atmosphere. A quick warmup. We are looking at some temperatures in the 70s. Low 50s in oakland. The dewpoints are very, very low. This the mid40s. Thats why for about ten minutes we have temperatures in the 40s in napa. Now we are already seeing those climb. 66. And 67. Look at this camera. Shaking from the upper elevations where the winds are gusting in excess of 35 miles an hour. So weve got low 70s fairfield, liver more. Napa has come up three degrees. 54 concord. So this is what those upper elevation winds can do. Not only do they dry out the atmosphere, they warm it up and as they descend, they warm even more. So into the valleys, the lower elevations, we get that warm air quickly. So high today in livermore, 92. So you are on your way to a very warm afternoon. Look at fairfield and livermore right now, 17 and 16 degrees respectively. Warmer than you were this time yesterday. But we are also looking at cooler conditions in oakland. Overall they will change in the next hour. Everyone will be on the way up. From our roof camera, its a nice shock this morning. We look for plenty of sunshine. A brief warmup today with the often shore flow. Turns around to an on shore push tomorrow. Temperatures will still be warm inland. It will be cooler at the coast. Here comes the rain. A chance of it tuesday into wednesday. Then we look for at opportunity as well. So with all the warm air, weve got plenty of sunshine. Another beautiful day. This afternoon the blue angels and temperatures in the midand upper 70s and the breezy offshore winds. Even by 6 00 we will still be in the 70s. So its all thanks to our upper elevation winds blog from the north and east of us. Then cold temperatures come tuesday, and with it a little bit of rain. Not a lot, but we are looking at two opportunities. The first one tuesday into wednesday. You can see the lighter shade here translate to go only about a tenth to maybe. 2. And then the next system possibly bringing another chance. But were not too sure on that one. You have to come back and check with us later on in the week. 90 concord today. 82 palo alto. Look for 86 in richmond. More 90s up in the north bay. How about the coast . 76 today ocean beach. Upper 70s point reyes. Stinson could hit about 80. So the accuweather sevenday forecast shows 70s, 80s and 90s today with the red flag warning. High fire danger until 5 00 tomorrow. Columbus day will still remain warm, especially inland. But just the first part of the day, then the winds cool us off. Here comes the big temperature drop, k chance of rain midweek and maybe again the end of the week. We will let you know how it will be in your area by keeping track of bay area weather on twitter with live doppler 7hd and talk about the chance of rain in st. Louis. Just a oneday warmup for us. Yesterdays ceremony was just one day after the memorial for 62yearold craig hunt, a cal firefighter who was killed while fighting a fire near yosemite. This is how they honored the heroes. To the sound of bagpipes playing in the background, hundreds of firefighters, family members and friends came to the capitol to remember the great men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. First we come here to honor our brothers, your loved ones. To let you know that we will never forget them. The names of 15 firefighters who died while serving will be added to the california firefighters memorial. Currently more than 1250 names are etched not only on the wall, but in the hearts and minds of everyone here and across the state. We all know the dangers come in many forms. What is rarely discussed, but again is demonstrated here again today, is the reality of it all. We can certainly elevate the 15 men of valor whose names will be added to the wall of heroes by pledging today and pledging every day that they will always be part of our hearts, and that their example will never be forgotten. As firefighters continue to battle wildfires across the state, people say they are praying for them, as well. Meaning even paying tribute to the most recent firefighter to give his life to protect others. We are especially mindful of our friend, our brother, Geoffrey Craig hunt, the cal firefighter who was killed while performing his duties, while protecting those that he was called to serve. Like the other brothers and sisters on the wall behind me, we have a bond with them that is eternal. We are also here to let you know that you are our family. The james Lick Observatory has been spotting stars for more than a century now, but as abc7 morning news anchor eric thomas reports, budget struggles are on their future. This perhaps may give them a glimpse of their own futures. I think about what is actually up there, its mind boggling. For the record, thats a planet that orbits a sun other than our own. And for kelsey, and philip, such discoveries are made with the help of the Lick Observatory, perched in the mountains east of san jose. Views and data from its telescopes are routed to their Observation Center at the university of california. Our screens are active here. Astronomy professor, alex, oversees much of the research, but lately hes spent as much time searching for something thats as nearly as hard to locate as a far away planet, money. The professor said he and his fellow astronomers were stunned by a decision choosing to fund money toward newer and more modern telescopes. Longterm programs that really involve students and people who are just developing their car years in science if technology. The university of california has had a facility at the lick conservatory since its construction on mt. Hamilton more than a century ago. While it doesnt boast the powerful telescopes of competing sites like in hawaii, he argues better access can sometimes mean more to a budding astronomer than raw power. What it can do is follow things around. We can get many, many nights consecutively or over the course of a year at lick to look for planets orbiting other stars are or to follow how an exploding star evolves. In a statement to abc7 news. The u. C. Provost office said it has never been on the Cutting Block and no one is suggesting lick be shut down, only that there be a different funding money. That philip, that means looking for star power and donors. I have a number of irons in the fire and i think a lot of people are potentially interested.
