Investigators say franklin was in her car when she was killed this morning at 29th and ream avenue. Her children both under ten years old were in the back seat. Reporter monday night just 11 people stayed here but they included two mothers with children. In the meantime the red cross, the city of oakland and Alameda County have combined efforts opening this local Assistance Center near city hall. The center is offering assistance with housing, food, health and social services. But for some its not enough. They only gave me 125. My tools i lost in the building cost 800. That was way more than that. And they only gave me 120 and i bought this. Weve been doing the best job we can. Reporter oakland assistance city administrator told us finding housing for the 80 people displaced by the fire has been a challenge. Not only because of a chronic shortage, but also because the victims have diverse needs. People with various challenges, physical disabilities, seniors, families with children, singles, mothers with children, even taking that into account in terms of who gets the priority. Police say they are suspected of robberies in oakland and san leandro, and hayward. A judge today sentenced the owner of a Granite Company to a year of home detention for the deaths of two workers. They were crushed by falling granite slabs back in 2014. 66yearold pleaded guilty in january to two felony counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and three labor Code Violations in connection with the employees deaths inside a shipping container at galaxy granite.
