Prosecutors filed upgraded charges against 23yearold samantha lee green. She was initially charged with Involuntary Manslaughter last week. Green and her son were reported missing february 23rd. She was found the next day claiming they had both been kidnapped, but the babys body was found the day after that in a remote body of water. Autopsy results suggest the infant either drowned or died from hypothermia. Happening now in sacramento county, emergency crews are at the scene where a truck hauling a trailer plunged off interstate 5 into a slew. The truck driver was trapped nearly an hour before firefighters could free him. The accident happened near the San Joaquin County line. It is not clear what caused the truck to swerve off the freeway. Police are investigating a potential abduction attempt of a 12yearold girl. The student was walking to school about 7 00 this morning when a man stopped his vehicle and asked whether she wanted a ride. The girl took off running. Sky 7 hd was over Antioch High School near where it happened. The man followed her and asked a second time but then she started running again and safely made it to school. A family of five is hospitalized after fire ripped through their home in San Franciscos Mission district. Abc 7 News Reporter Lyanne Melendez is live from the hospital where the mother and one of the children are recovering tonight. Reporter thats right, recovering from inhalation injuries. By the way that child is about 10 years old dan. The other three, a father a daughter and a teenage boy were sent to San Francisco general hospital. Fire investigators dont know how the fire started. Firefighters acted quickly early this morning to rescue five family members from different parts of this building in the mission district. They were able to rescue two of the boys out the front window where the ladder is behind me. The young girl down the stairs, the entranceway, and they brought the mom and dad out the back way. Reporter while they were doing that they discovered two more people sleeping inside the liquor store on 24th and treat. Firefighters had to cut through two padlocks to rescue them. We discovered multiple beds and makeshift beds in there, but there were two people that were padlocked into a room. Reporter they were not injured and ran from the location. In october, 2014 a kplangt was filed for using that commercial space for residential purposes. The department of Building Inspections tried to enter the premises three times and were denied access. The mothers name is mohammed shiedi. He and his family have worked and lived in the neighborhood for years. Its sad because its a nextdoor neighbor and we shop there all the time. Reporter all five family members remain in the hospital. You know like they got burned really bad. I felt bad because he was here with his kids. This fire is half a mile from another devastating fire in the mission. Six weeks ago today in fact, fierce flames ripped through a building at mission and 22nd. Sky 7 hd was overhead to bring you these pictures. One man died dozens lost their homes and businesses. Members of the community have stepped up to raise money and donate goods to help those affected by this fire. Many of whom are still recovering six weeks later. The shooting death of a guatemalan immigrant the clergy went to file a complaint. They say the shooting of perez last month was not justified. Perez was killed by two undercover officers after he did not follow orders to drop a knife. The complaint alleges that perez, who did not speak english, may not have understood those undercover officers. The clergy members want an independent investigation. These issues the conflicts of the stories, all remain unresolved because we cannot get any indictments. So thats the problem. The stories simply are not that clear. San Francisco Police claim the shooting was justified and perez was trying to rob a bicyclist with that knife. A San Francisco family is desperate to find a stolen urn and understandably so it contains the ashes of their mother. It looks like this exempt it is red. It was taken february 25th. The burglar went to the house on 20th street in the citys pot potrero neighborhood but the family is only asking for the urn to be returned. Reporter cheryl, during the cross examination, the attorneys relied heavily on years of email exchanges, all in an attempt to disprove ellen powells version of events. The cross examination between the attorney and ellen has been hostile. They played video from her deposition to contradict statements she made in front of the jury. There were a number of emails that discountinged her account of events likes this one she sent eight months after the affair. You know i would do anything to preserve our friendship even though sometimes its harder than other times. A second focus of the cross examination today was workplace conflicts. They are trying to establish a real pattern of ellen having problems with people that she worked with. Reporter liz gain, senior editor, has covered the case since powell filed suit in may of 2012. Ellen powell, her personality is really at stake in this case because her former coworkers are aringguing that she was really hard to work with and thats why she was fired. Shes arguing that she didnt get the opportunities that she deserved because shes a woman. Reporter they also dug into claims that her partner gave her an inappropriate book of poetry and dinner invitation. He held up a small buddhist statue powell gave and powell agreed the poetry book was given after she gave this gift. During the lunch break hermly approached the judge about powells motivation for the lawsuit. Her husband went bankrupt and its rumored the couple have financial troubles. Late word from sacramento today the california board of education has suspended the states accountability system to give teachers and students time to adjust to the new common core tests. The common core curriculum focuses more on comprehension. The board has voted not to have an academic Performance Index for the 20142015 school year. Superintendent Tom Torlakson says it wouldnt be fair to evaluate schools on this years scores because tests are too different from previous tests. We have an abc 7 news followup on an 11yearold boy who is back in school today after he says a bully kept him out of class for months. Nathan was knocked unconscious by another student at downer elementary in san pablo in january. That alleged bully was suspended but went back to school. Today nathans mother contacted us, saying afternoon several meetings with the School District that student has finally been kicked out. Nathan went back to school today and has this message for others. People who bully are people who have been bullied. Thats a thousand rental bikes a day coming into our small town and its just unsustainable to have those numbers exponentially increase every year. Reporter Sausalito City Councilwoman Linda Pfeifer says its a matter of safety with cars and pedestrians. She wants to regulate the number of rental bikes coming into town.
