When a bay area woman saw a charge that added 43 to the price of her gas, she did a double take. She asked 7 on your side Michael Finney to look into it. She has been gassing up at this chevron in martinez for years. Never has she seen a bill like the one she saw earlier this month. I come once a week. Ive never had this issue. But there it was on her gas receipt. A labor charge of 6. 54 for a gas purchase of 15. 01. Its regular unleaded gas for 2. 99 a gallon and im being charged almost 50 extra to pump my own gas. The gas station attendant refused to remove the charge, despite being unable to explain it. Instead he urged her to file a complaint with the credit card company. I said, no, thats not my job to do. You dont pay a labor fee to pump your own gas. The gas sign didnt say anything about a labor charge. Neither did any other sign we charge. The terminal at the pump wasnt working so she went into the store to prepay for 20 of gas. Pumped 15 worth and the total charges came to 22. 11. She contacted me and we took our complaint to chevron. Our investigation shows this was a oneoff issue and it was a coding error in the system. Sylvia purchased cat food in the store and that purchase was mislabeled on the receipt as a labor charge. She mistakenly believed her cat food was running up separately. She was also charged sales a tax for the cat food. She was assured she was not overcharged and she was being charged for the items in the store. For her trouble she received a 20 gift card from chevron, despite the gas station being independently owned. I was very surprised. We went back and did not see anyone else who found a labor charge on their receipt. Chevron is confident the issue than resolved. Im Michael Finney, 7 on your side. Astronomers from u. C.
