This was near broadway. Some people, while they were up there, set off fireworks. Some climbed on top of big rigs that couldnt go anywhere. And then some took the opportunity to pray. We say, for everyone that feels that were disrupting their status quo tonight, we say our status quo has been disrupted for 400 years. Reporter on city street, a few businesses in oakland including a foot locker, the smart and final. They had windows broken. Those have been boarded up. And there is graffiti throughout downtown. They did make one arrest at the smart and final and say no one was hurt. The freeway has been reopened. It was shut down for about five hours. They got it open at 1 15 this morning. Later wednesday night, 32yearold Philandro Castile was shot in a traffic stop outside st. Paul, minnesota. His girlfriend was in the car with her daughter. Six others still in surgery. Jessica castro is back with us. What are we learning about the victims . Natasha, the first officer to be identified is brent thompson. We want to show you a look at his picture. He was 43 years old. He had been part of the d. A. R. T. Force 2009. Thats the dallas area rapid transit. Officer thompson is the first officer to be killed in the history of well have more information as the morning goes on. Heres more footage from overnight. The mayor of dallas has been speaking to some of the News Networks this morning and hes able to confirm that the person who has been in a shootout with police for much of the evening ended a couple hours ago, that he is dead. There are three suspects in custody and one of these suspects is dead. Were still waiting to hear if there were more people possibly involved in what appears to have been a calculated and planned attack on Police Officers. We now know that five officers have been killed. Were also tracking some new numbers coming in about any civilians that were hit. We know at least one was hit in the exchange of gunfire as well. Mayor Mike Rawlings has just confirmed that the suspect in a standoff with police in Downtown Dallas has died. Three others are in custody. Five dallasarea Police Officers are dead. Six others wounded after a planned ambushstyle attack. They were shot during a black lives matter protest in the downtown area. We should also note this morning the security in Downtown Dallas remains very tight and theres still many streets blocked off as a result of this continuing investigation. It appears, though, that the shooting is over and a sweep of bombs has happened in downtown and so far they havent found any explosives. We veal more on as the news develops.
