Two buses carrying players were involved in an accident following their practice today at stanford. Happened at southbound 101 at ellis street south of moffitt field. The team was heading back to the hotel in santa clara when one bus ran into another and a chp motorcycle officer ran into one of the buses. The officer had minor injuries. The team says no one from the broncos was hurt. Outside linebacker Demarcus Ware tweeted the photo of players standing alongside their bus. He posted to keep the day interesting, we have a small wreck. Looks like everyone is okay, though. Yeah, more interesting than they would prefer. I think so. The super bowl is creating obviously a lot of frenzy of activity all across the bay area. Abc 7 News Reporter Sergio Quintana is live where fans are soaking in the experience. Reporter super bowl city of course opened this weekend and it was basically two days of celebrations for San Francisco residents and bay area residents but the mayors of bay area city today held a News Conference welcoming everyone else whos coming. When you think of football, you think of mariachis, right . Okay. How about vij yurtual reality . In super bowl city what might seem bizarre anywhere else suddenly seems okay. Like headless football players, where you provide a head. Theyre one of the most photographed attractions here. The fullyarmed police s. W. A. T. Team members are probably the second most photographed. Bay area residents here said today seemed like the most opportune time to take this spectacle in before everyone else gets here. If youre going to come, come during the weekday and to come early, you know, and because more and more people are going to be pouring in from outside the bay area. Stop and, okay parking spots in an already tough city to park in might be off limits for a week. But mayor ed lee says this may be the center set for other future host cities. I think super bowl 50 has aligned itself with some of the highest standards ever that i think all the other host cities, maybe it will come back because they cant beat those standards. Now, the san jose mayor said a formal application for an olympics has not been made but did call this a fire drill, basically training in case the cities do decide to get together and make a pitch for a larger event. Several other 50 signs around the city have also been targeted but the Host Committee says they have no plans to remove those. The statues are coated in g graffi graffitiproof material. The vandals have done more than simply deface the surfaces. One sign at city hall had the letters rearranged to read, sup bro . We have breaking news on the peninsula where the bomb squad is heading to the menlo park cal train station to check out a suspicious package of some sort. Well snow in the high sierra kept 7 00 children from coming ohm as scheduled. They were attending a winter camp near hume lake in Fresno County but their charter buses were stranded by 2 feet of snow. This is the photo of those buses. Check that out. A lot of snow. The children are from throughout california including the bay area. Theyre expected to make it home later tonight. And cleanup is under way after last nights winds brought down this massive tree. It came crashing down dangerously close to a home in redwood city. The homeowner whos in a wheelchair had to go in through the back just to get into the house. Crews are actually still working to demolish a home on a sliding hillside in San Francisco. Yeah, that home is on casidas avenue near mt. Davidson. The city determined the home was dangerous so it had to be demolished. The question is, are other homes at risk . Weve been keeping an eye on this situation since last week, ron learned the property he bought and has never lived in is lost. It had to be demolished after the hillside it sits on began shifting. The earth is simply saturated with water. And city crews find an eightinch water main break which they capped on saturday. It had been spewing a river of water. One neighbor estimates perhaps, you know, millions of gallons of water. He showed us some cell phone video of that big waterspout. But late this afternoon, the head of the department of building inspection and the head of the fspuc said theyre not 100 sure that water main break is the cause. We identified the eightinch water main break, but were also looking to see if theres ground water because we want to make sure that we secure and make sure we identify all the sources of water so that we can take the next steps. We want to make sure that everything is taken care of. So were just trying to be very cautious in making sure that we identify all sources. Reporter this is sky 7 hd video from last week when five other homeowners, two on either side of the demolished home, and three down below, were told that their homes could be at risk and, again, geotechnical tests to see if their homes are in teenage. We were told late this afternoon that there is no imminent danger. The San Francisco chronicle, the admission came during testimony at a California Public Utilities Commission hearing. The missing records constitute a central issue as a judge considers to fine the utility for documentation problems on its network of gas distribution lines. Abc 7 news was at Candlestick Point this afternoon as hundreds of uber drivers set off on a protest drive. Honking their horns along the way apparently. The drivers say wages can be so low they sometimes work for less than 4 an hour. They want to negotiate better wages with uber. Sky 7 hd followed the protests as it made its way from San Francisco International Airport to uber headquarters downtown. We saw one of the cars plastered with protest signs. Rear ended another car on highway 101. Take a look. It appears both drooieivers exchanged information. Doesnt appear anyone was injured. The damage to the cars didnt look serious, either. Were now learning that the men allegedly kidnapped a taxi driver then fought in a San Jose Motel room over whether to kill him. Abc 7 news anchor kristen zee joins us with the details. Reporter inmates bac duong Jonathan Tieu and Hossein Nayeri are back in jail. Tieu and nayeri were captured saturday northern after passersby spotted their van and alerted police. The trio was holding a taxi driver captive for part of the time they were in the bay area. They did very little to keep out of sight. Investigators say these men arrived at the Alameda Hotel in san jose tuesday night. The next day, they ate lunch at lees Sandwich Shop on east santa clara street. We also learned they had with them a taxi driver they allegedly kidnapped in Southern California. And the fate of that faxi drive inmate nayeri and duong had a fight in the hotel at the Alameda Hotel in the city of san jose. The fight was about whether or not to kill the taxicab driver and bury his body. According to investigators, duong fled back to Southern California with the taxi driver on thursday when the other two inmates went to get the windows on the stolen van tinted. Sheriffs Officials Say the escape plan had been in the work for about six months. Theyre not giving out anymore information on how the three managed to escape from the max co maximum security jail january 22nd. Larry, ama . Thank you so much. But not necessarily a great day for commuters. Ferry passengers got a special escort from the coast guard. Abc 7 News Reporter melissa harrington. Everyone knew the coast guard was on board or going to be following us. Reporter part of a multiagency Security Force patrolling the bay area for super bowl 50. One of the largest events the coast guard has worked. Reporter coast guard vessels are escorting some ferries, passengers have been slowed down by security checks through metal detecters. A random bag check boarding the ferry. Reporter at the ferry building, k9s do a sweep of the terminal. Do sweeps of terminal, passengers making sure no one is sneaking into anything onto the ferry. Reporter Justin Herman plaza has been transformed into super bowl city. You dont need a ticket to get in but do need to go through tight security. Police in uniform and in plain clothes are on patrol. Theyre screening delivery trucks in an effort to keep the familyfriendly events safe. So far, the only minor issue was over the weekend three people were detained then released for public intoxication. Theres one of the entrances to super bowl city, out front, armed police officers. Caucus, a native american word meaning gathering a tribal leaders. Thats what they do. Iowans gather to talk about who they want, no voting booths. This mock caucus at Drake University was the best tutorial i found. They meet separately in 1,618 precincts. They hear pitches from candidate surrogates. This case, jeb bush sent his son, jeb bush jr. They write down the candidates name on a piece of paper, the votes are counted attend the winner is named at that caucus site. The democratic side works dichb differently. Voters divide themselves into groups standing with others who support the same candidate. If the group is too small, deemed not viable, they have to support a different candidate or recruit others to their camp. This process does take seven hours and begins shortly at 7 00 their time in less than half an hour. So a small state, but huge stakes because it is first. The two suspects accused of killing a 13yearold virginia girl made a brief court appearance. Prosecutors charged 18yearold Virginia Tech student David Eisenhower with firstdegree murder and abduction in the death of 13yearold nicole lovell. Police found her body saturday near the Virginia North carolina border. Also in court today, 19yearold natalie keepers. Shes charged with improper disposal of a body and accessory after the fact. The World Health Organization today said the explosive spread of the zika virus in north and south america should be declared an international emergency. The w. H. O. Estimates there could be up to 4 million cases of zika in the next year. That virus is spread by mosquitos and is suspected to cause birth defects. Zika is being reported worldwide including right here in california. Indonesia has reported its first case, colombia has reported more than 2,000 pregnant women infected with the virus. In the united states, four pregnant women with zika are being monitored. The last Public Health emergency was declared for the 2014 Ebola Outbreak in west africa which killed more than 11,000 people. When we came here, you know, they told us same thing, 10 chance of survival, 90 of mortality rate, but we took on the rest of treatment. Reporter the treatment ended up being none other than oxygen to help baby liam survive until birth. He was diagnosed with epsteins anomaly, a large heart and leaky valves. We have been with other physicians across the world try to address the situation. Reporter lynn to was given ox again three weeks, 12 hours a day. Mom and son are the first people in the world to be treated with oxygen therapy in this case. I would lay there in bed with my oxygen and talk to him and tell him, liam, when you come out, i need you to breath, okay . I need you to breathe, i need you to fight. Reporter the oxygen worked but when liam was born, the battle was far from over. Liam had to be hooked up to a machine for ten days before he would have his heart reconstructed. The chances for survival now 50 50. The outcome again is nothing short of remarkable. Remarkable little boy. Reporter liams dad, jose, say through it all they never gave up hope. Made a vow to stay strong. Reporter its their faith who got them through and both parents get to enjoy being at home with their son. San francisco unified said a recent survey revealed 5 of their students in middle school say they have had sex. If you doubt that someone that young could be sexually active, ask the director of the third Street Youth Center and clinic in San Francisco who says their average client is 14. So if 14 is the average, there are some who are older, but there are also some who are younger.
