Father of a man shot and killed by Richmond Police says two different stories emerge. Thank you for joining us. Richard perezs family says last sundays shooting was underand want the officer involved prosecuted. Cornell bernard spoke with the perez family and is live in richmond. Reporter friends and family of richard petey perez is gathered here at nichols park in richmond after his funeral today. Theyre demanding justice for his death. I raised my son well. He had respect for the law. Grieving father, rick perez, says his son didnt have to die last sunday after getting into a confrontation with a Richmond Police officer here at uncle sams liquor store. Only guilty of one thing, that night, and that was being intoxicated. The family of richard petey perez held a News Conference after their sons funeral, along with their attorney, john buris, police say 31yearold wally jensen, six year veteran of the force, saw perez at the liquor store, acting bell illini gent. When the officer asked perez to set on a sidewalk while a records check could be done, perez attacked the officer and tried to grab his gun. The officer, fearing for his life, shot perez three times, killing him. Police have surveilens video that proves the shooting was justified. He was unarmed. John buris wants the officer prosecuted. He said witness accounts contradict the officers story. The most damnable aspect of this to me is this claim that he reached for the officers gun. As a basis to justify the shooting. That is a boldfaced lie. Reporter police chief was invited to attend the News Conference but did not, but said in a statement, as chief of police, im committed to the greatest degree of transparency possible involving this critical incident. Officer jensen remains or paid leave during the d. A. s investigation, while a grieving family is demanding justice. Always thought stuff like this only happened to other people. Like the lottery, only happens to other people. I did not win the lottery here. In richmond, abc7 news. A bay point man accused of sexually assaulting three boys faces 17 charges today. Roned in the deguzman turn himself in to deputies on september 9th. Officers believe the contacted the victims through churches. Detectives think there may be additional victims. They virtue began searching for deguzman last month. A driver is under arrest for hitting and killing a woman near the San Francisco stockton tunnel. Officers say the driver made a left turn on to stockton and hit the woman as she crossed the street. Police say the victim lived in the neighborhood. The investigation shut done the tunnel for several hours. Police arrested the driver of the car for vehicular manslaughter. Investigators have not released the names of the suspect or the victim. A fire forced evacuation of a large apartment complex in san mateo today. It started this morning. Firefighter says at least one car inside a ground, level carport started on fire, which damaged the building. The apartment manager went door to door to get everyone out. Theres a big fire from the car some minutes, whole smoke in the parking lot. Just walk away from the parking lot, went to my room and pick up my son and walk away from the apartment. The residents had to remain outside while pg e secured the gas and electric lines. To developing new. The Massive Wildfire burning east of sacramento has grown another six square miles. The fire has scorched 126 square miles in all since it ignited a week ago today. Assessment teams hope to get an idea today of just how many structures have been damaged or destroyed. About 12,000 homes are in danger right now. In other areas the flames are no longer a threat. Our highest pry north this area is to continually assess when residents can come back in. Record amounts of retardant have been dropped on the fire. Flames spread to the Tahoe National forest and there are reports the smoke ivies nibble the tahoe area. This is one of several major wildfires burping in the state. Smoke could cause serious air quality problems. A shift in the winds is bringing smoke our way. Bay area residents may notice the smell, could impact solano, contra costa, napa, and alameda county. The wind yesterday near the fire were coming from the west, blowing the smoke away from the bay area. Today the winds shifted to the east. The wildfires you see burning just to the east of sacramento, that smoke now you can see very visible, that plume is pretty thick on our satellite imagery, and the winds are now shifting to the east. That smoke is going to be blowing east over the next 24 hours, and the counties worried more about, solano, contra costa, napa, and alameda. The issue is for sensitive groups. Not everybody will see the smoke but the air quality on sunday, from the north bay, the coast, inland, they do have a moderate risk for sensitive groups, meaning those with asthma and breathing issues. The smoke, the particulates, could cause concern over the next 24 hours. The good news, the wind will shift again tomorrow to the west but will bring changes for the smoke but also for our weather in the bay area.
