Reporter 11 people were transported to the hospital, some minminor, others more seri. But i want you to see the video where you can see a mother who was hurt reaching out for her childs hand while being escorted by firefighters. From up above, we want to also show you that collision, a big rig tried to make an illegal left turn and was hit by the muni light rail vehicle that was directly behind that truck. Some people on the muni lrb were treated on the scene and released. Im not hurting that bad, but it was a bad shock. We felt a really big break and then saw the glass shatter on the side. Reporter the big rig was leaking gas for a while, but no apparent danger. Witnesses in the area and on board has been interviewed and it has been determined that the driver of the truck tried to turn left on 3rd even though it is not allowed. There is a no left turn sign posted clearly there and both vehicles were in motion. He got too close to the train. Reporter even though it has been determined he was at fault, he has not been cited yet. 3rd street remains closed for the time being and police are telling everyone to try to avoid this area. Im live from San Francisco. Lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. And now to the other muni accident. Take a look at the damage the front end of this bus sustained. It had just pulled on to the stop when it rear ended a dump truck. 20 were hurt, 12 taken to the hospital. All are expected to survive. The bus and Truck Drivers were not injured. Police are reviewing Surveillance Video to determine the cause of that accident. And more developing news in south san jose where a bus caught fire. We were over the creep northbound 101 just south of state route 85. You can see the burned out bus on the side of the road. The fire broke out in the rear. Fortunately no passengers on the bus. The cause is still unknown. A former marine who searched three tours of duty in iraq is fighting for his life now after being shot in antioch. A story Laura Anthony first broke on twitter. Brandon was walking on golf course road early this morning when he was shot. The marine was the focus of a story we did two years ago. Hes a purple heart recipient who suffered a head injury when an ied exploded. He and his wife and three children moved in to a mortgage free home as part of a round wounded veterans program. A neighbor said he was a friendly person who helped make the block a safer place. Its shocking. Its disgusting. He was probably my best neighbor you because he did it put up the cameras for our security. Hes listed in Critical Condition at a walnut creek hospital. Investigators say last month 58yearold ahmad touched and kicked a woman in her 30s sitting on a bench. She huffed him and got away. We will fight today workers waiting to board a tech shuttle bus in San Francisco were met with more protests this morning. It happened on the first day these shuttles have to pay to use muni. 105 permitted locations in the city. Seniors and disabled people held the protests at valencia and 24th street. They are protesting represents and evictions. One bedroom, 4100 a month . Two bedroom, 6500 a month somewhsom . What elderly people can afford that . Police eventually cleared the protestors. The Pilot Program allows the city to fine shuttle buss that stop in nondesignated areas. A family in fremont is devastated after items were stolen. And then tomorrow, notice the fog that will have pushed locally inland overnight. Lingering at the coast. It was found in a home owners backyard. Sid garcia from our sister station talked to the man who discovered the fossil and what happens next. Reporter Sheriffs Department is well trained and equipped in rescuing people and animals from a steep hillside. Theyre using their skills to remove something that has been in this Rolling Hills estates canyon literally for millions of years. It is the fossil head of a bailey whale. Gary johnson found it nearly 40 years ago. He and friends rolled this skull up from the creek to this spot. We called the museum, they came out. They thought it was whale and they thought it was 14 million years old, which they were right, but they said we cant get it out of here. Its too chevy. And once the fossil a lifted there here, its new home, museum of Natural History in los angeles. Harold tha thomas is with the museum. Its very rare, so were really excited. A new study raises concern about the cancer risk of Birth Control pills. Researchers say that women who took medium or high doses of the pill had a 50 increase in developing breast cancer. Look at the package of the pill and look for a low number. Its either 10 or 20 micrograms of estrogen. And taking a mono phasic pill has been found to be associated whe with a lower risk. 50 micro grams is considered a high dose. Birth control pills have been shown for cut the risk of ovarian cancer. Cars can actually be hacked. Security researchers analyzed the technical configurations of several newer model vehicles and found the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is the most hackable car on the road today. Researchers say the vehicles are at risk if critical functions like steering happen to be on the same network as features that connect the car to the internet.
