All schools in napa valley unified will be closed. The district superintendent says faculty and staff will meet tomorrow morning at their schools and the district will decide by 1 00 which, if any, schools will remain closed on tuesday. We have Live Team Coverage on the napa earthquake for you. We begin with abc7 News Reporter lilian kim live in napa. Lilian . Ama, the Browns Valley neighborhood was hit hard. Roads are cracked and sidewalks buckled and several homes are just too dangerous to live in. The sign is clear. This building is unsafe. This duplex on oak street is still standing, but barely. On p street, another duplex was deemed unsafe. It had been 10 feet taller. It was two feet and then 20 or 30 minutes it is corrupt. Not too far away a victorian got red tagged. Neighbors stop by to take a look. Seeing this house shifted over is not surprising. I woke up and thought this is it, this is the big one. Farther west the whitlocks took it upon themselves to determine their house was unsafe. They packed up and moved out. The foundation shifted and cracks can be found throughout the house. We spent thousands of dollars putting in a 25foot steel beam and 55,000 under the house to make it earthquake safe. I do believe that is what saved us. Engineers came to assess the damage. They took pictures as part of their factfinding mission. It is clear because what they want to know is why. The question is is it a liquifact failure. Those are the questions we are trying to answer right now. Jay the engineers say knowing what caused the ground to shift they can do a better job determining where quake damage will occur in the future. Live in napa, lilian kim, abc7 news. Lilian, thank you. A few dozen folks in napa who escaped earthquake damage had to evacuate their homes tonight because a neighbor caused a gas leak. Between 15 and 20 homes were evacuated in napa about an hour ago. They say the leak was started when someone tried to shut off their gas. I was in the housecleaning up from the earthquake and i heard a knock at the door and he said you have to evacuate. I grabbed my dad and dog and roommate and came out here. The people have been evacuated until further notice. It ruptured gas lines causing these mobile homes to explode in flames. Residents say it was terrifying. It broke watermains which means fighting the fires what is difficult for crews. And the fire left families devastated. You can see there is nothing left of this home which was still smoldering late this morning. More than 200 people were taken to the hospital. Many suffering from cuts and lacerations from debris they stepped on trying to get out of their homes. Three people are in Critical Condition. Alyssa harrington is live with the latest. Saw lis saw . Alyssa . 208 people were treated here and three staffers as well. So many people came to the hospital. The triage tents were set up to take care of those who needed medical attention. We also did find out earlier that one person died. Hospital officials tell me that death does not appear to be related to the earthquake. Most people suffered minor injuries, things like cuts and bruises and sprained ankles. There were also broken bones and one teenage boy had to be airlifted in Critical Condition to uc davis hospital. He was hit by falling debris. The 13yearold boy who had injuries sustained when there was some there was a fireplace collapsed in the home. He was brought in here and stabilized and shipped to another Medical Center. It has been a very busy day for hospital staff. They also delivered this baby boy. This is Ismael Sanchez and he was delivered before the earthquake. The proud parents are also shaken up. They did release a statement. It says we are grateful that our baby son is safe and for the doctor and the hospital staff who cared for us before and after the earthquake. [no audio] sorry, we lost her oh there she is. Oh we lost her. They were thankful to the hospital for keeping the family safe. The red cross set up a shelter on first street in napa. Thats where abc7 News Reporter vic lee is live for us tonight. Vic . There are now 72 families registered here at the Crosswalk Community church. Most are not staying here tonight. They are spending the night with family and friends. Only eight families are and it includes a family with an infant. Tonight this is the only place the lopez family can go to for food, comfort and shelter. He said he and his mother and their month old baby are homeless and they were sleeping in their car a when the quake hit. We were in our truck and i wake up to like my car all over the place. Most of the people who came here wanted food for their families. Their home had no electricity or gas. Kristen is here with her 4yearold son, angel. She hadnt slept at all since the quake rumbled through her home. I was shocked. I didnt know what to do. I was almost crying. I was like, please stop it. I didnt know what to do. Heidi walter came to get food. Not only for herself, but friends who are home bound. My house slid off the foundation three or four inches. We had a lot of westnorth movement. Walter and her friend registered at the shelter, but felt they could still live at home. She invited us to her house which was about a mile away. From the outside it looked all right. On the lawn, the bricks from her fireplace gave away the real damage. On a closer look, the foundation shifted and the columns were way off. And the chimney, take a look. You can see a crack and light between it and the exterior wall. We followed walter inside. The fireplace had indeed fallen on to her living room and everything was hell ter skell ter. The legs of the heavy pool table had given way. The island shifted across the floor and all of this when she thought the house was safe from earthquakes. I had it earthquake retrofitted a few years ago. Walters spirit was amazing. A lot of good work to be done and we will do it altogether. Despite the extensive damage, Heidi Walters has chosen to spend the night in her house. This is her old family home and it was built in 1915. She prays there wont be a huge aftershock tonight. Vic lee, abc7 news. We all hope that. The quake caused significant damage at this apartment complex in napa. A carport collapsed on to 40 and maybe as many as 50 cars at the complex. Walls cracked and a lot of water in the hallways at the westin in napa. Look at this video. Another wall of bricks crashed down from the side of napa. This is main street at vallejo. The whole thing sheared off. Glad to say no one was hurt, but there was severe damage. Just around the corner there was another one that slid off the foundation. No word on whether anyone living in the house was injured. It caused a lot of damage to the napa valley wineries. About 40 of the barrels came down off their frames. Abc7 News Reporter sergio has a look at the damage. The extent of damage and loss is going to depend on how far along they were in the bottling process. They have all of their barrels neatly stacked right now. They had been stacked in the big Storage Facility, but they came tumbling down in the earthquake. The good thing for them is all of these barrels are empty because they went through their bottling process last week. Most of their product is safely stored away at a Storage Facility that was barely even touched. This was video at the winery a half mile from the epicenter. They were full when the barrel hit this morning and unfortunately many of the barrels ruptured when they were rattled down. 50 barrels worth of wine, 50,000 gallons. How much is that worth to you . It is expensive. It is in the tens of thousands of dollars for sure. It has taken almost five hours to get the barrels down safely and we are stacking them and separating the ones that are damaged. Probably 50 or 60 that will need to be repaired before we can use them. And this is what the mess looked like when richard and his crew arrived. It does look pretty bad, but they suffered minimal damage to the product. You can see right there is how much this big steel tank was moved because of the earthquake. I am told none of the tanks here were damaged. At this point a lot of the wineries are assessing how much of a loss they are going to see because of the disaster. In napa valley, abc7 news. And this video in napa. Crews are working to clean up hundreds of broken bottles. And a news crew on the scene says you can smell balsalmic down the block on on first street. It is that pungent. At the whole foods supermarket at the Shopping Plaza in napa food fell off the shelves and on to the floor. Shoppers tried to stop in to get some items, but they were turned away because it was too dangerous in the area. This is what it looked like in the safe way on American Canyon. Food fell from those shelfs and it landed all over the floor. Lots of sodas as well. You can share your pictures or comments on our facebook page. And we would like to thank the First Responders who rushed to the scene of the quake. We posted this image on our facebook page. Share it to thank those who were working hard to keep all of us safe. They did work hard. They rushed in and kept things to a minimum. The winds were not significant and that helped to prevent it from spreading. Ama and dan, the earthquake knocked out our weather station, but the last report was calm winds at that hour and high humidity. That helped to keep the fires contained and not spread. A church was spared from the wrath of the earthquake and with it irreplaceable pieces of history. Jonathon bloom has more from st. Peters chapel. St. Peters chapel is more than a charming old church. It was built in 1901 and it was the first inner denominational church. And swivels between catholic and protestant and you need only look at the organ pipes to know there was an earthquake. In spied in spite of it all, the organ still plays. It sounds off key, but other than that it is still working. And what is more remarkable is this. They were installed over a 30year period because each one people had to raise money to put these in. Designed by the tiffany family from the Jewelry Store fame each is dedicated to a military hero and all survived.
