Oakland Police Officers say only one person saw the collision, but others say they saw it and it will take awhile to determine. Someone down the block started recording on his cell phone moments after the collision. The oakland mayor in the green dress is seen standing next to the nissanal Nissan Altima that ran into her. Police say she had the green light and the driver of the altima was going east on 27th street. The altima sustained significant damage while quans governmentissued lexus suv had limited damage on the rear. On her Facebook Page she said i was going between two Community Events when a wheel struck my tire. I pulled over and made sure no one was hurt. It appeared everyone was all right and their well being was my first priority. Lower back pain and im nervous. Reporter renee lovely was behind the wheel of the altima. She insists the accident was not her fault and she had the green light. She went through a red light. It was not yellow and turning red. It was red. Pretty much throughout the bay area you can drive just about anywhere and you can find these fields of tall, dry grasses. These are some of the spots that the Fire Departments will be keeping close tabs on especially in these hot, dry days. With the continuing heat fire crews are on alert. With the dry conditions, the smallest spark can be a problem. All it takes is the metal blade and one rock to hit it and it is amazing how quick it will take off. Air quality is another concern. Las vegas metro sheriff Doug Gillespie says officers alan beck and igor soldo were eating lunch around 11 30 in a cicis pizza when a couple walked in and shot them. One died at the scene and the other in surming re. The man and woman walked into a nearby walmart and shot a customer in the store. They yelled the revolution has begun before shooting the officers. They had a backpack and i saw the gun watts was in their hand. They told me to tell the cops it was a revolution and he killed two cops. A very, very difficult day. We have a community of police, and we still have a community to protect. We will be out there doing it with our heads held high, but an emptiness in our hearts. Police say the violence ended when the woman shot the man and then herself inside the walmart. Two shootings in oakland left two dead and two others injured. One of the victims was a 15yearold girl. Police say she was shot before 10 30 near 82nd avenue and a street. She was riding in the car with two men in their 20s. The two men were wounded. About two miles away and 90 minutes later a separate shooting killed a 20yearold man. Police say he was shot and killed outside his home on 48th avenue. Police dont have a suspect or a possible motive in either case. Developing news in San Francisco. Thats where officials at muni believe there will not be another sickout. Sickouts last week delayed and stranded thousands of riders on monday, tuesday and wednesday. City law prohibits that type of action by labor unions. Muni and the Transit Workers Union are embroiled in contract talks. Might have been hit three times by motorists. Southern california assemblyman wrote the three feet for safety act. The bill establishes the three foot buffer. And if in fact it is not safe to pass the driver has to slow down to a reasonable speed and then pass when the cyclist is not deemed endangered. The cyclists we met welcomed the new law. It sounds great. I ride 15 to 20 miles a day. I am constantly dealing with that issue right there. Do you have any close calls . My girlfriend got hit. It sounds like a great law. Many drivers on the other happened say the new on the other hand say the new rule is hard to follow especially on crowded streets. I think the streets are small enough. I dont think downtown streets are the right place for bicycles. I think it is too dangerous. Maybe hard to enforce. How do you know this is three feet. They are worried they would get a ticket if going into the buffer zone. The fine is 35, but if the driver hits a cyclist it goes to 225. 24r there are no fines for cyclists who get close to cars. We wanted to show you how a three foot buffer may not work in San Francisco. We rigged a car with cameras and noted the distance and drove around the city. It was very difficult to stay 36 inches away from a bike and remain in our lane. We would have to follow behind four blocks and that could cause serious traffic congestion. Threne we marked then we marked it with chalk and we have enhanced the lines so you can see them. Here is a perfect example of why this law would be hard to enforce. Keep your eye on the cyclist. That taxi clearly comes too close, but is it 36 inches 1234 how will police make the call . I would suspect the law was not ridden with San Francisco in mind. He oversees the pedestrian and the Bicycle Safety for the city. San franciscos narrow streets make this a tough law to enforce. The average car lane a in lane in the state is 10 feet wide and in San Francisco it is eight feet. The proximity of our cars to the bicyclists in general is too close. Police across the state issued just 337 tickets for the threefoot violation from 2006 to 2010. Thats in a state with 14 million licensed drivers. The San FranciscoPolice Department says it will be up to the officers on the street to determine when a ticket should be issued. You cause harm to another and you are cause of the collision you get a citation. We spoke with several Police Officers off camera who told us without a collision they wont even bother to enforce the law. The importance is in the awareness rather than the enforcement. Gite bicycle Bicycle Coalition said enforcing it is difficult in San Francisco. Still it is scary to be passed closely by a car. This three foot buffer is not to cite motorists for driving dangerously, but to ask them to share the road. The three feet for safety act goes into effect on september 16th.
