We had saveable lives at risk and we pulled two people out. Unfortunately, we have three victims that were left on scene for the investigation. Now turned over to the coroner and we have a total of three tragedies. The two surviving victims are two adult females. Theyre both in Critical Condition at the hospital. One is at Riverside Community hospital, one is at arrowhead regional in San Bernardino county. This is what your return on investment is. We put firefighters inside of a building. We pulled them out and we have saveable lives that are living today. Thats what you get from a Fire Department thats locked and loaded and ready to go. We have property that was at risk. We have lives at risk. We saved numerous houses. We have a total of only four damaged from an airplane coming down in a small residential neighborhood. So we have a total of five victims on the plane, three tragedies. Two patients that are living. Four houses that are damaged. And only two of those houses are red tagged. Two of those four houses are only smoke damage and minor damage to the exterior. So with that, i want to thank the community. If you look at the live videos from yesterday, the community of riverside, they didnt get in the firefighters way. They helped assist pulling one of the live victims from across the street and getting that victim to a safe location. They let the firefighters do their job. We have three alarmin. We had approximately 60 firefighters on scene. And we thank the community of this neighborhood for allowing the firefighters to get in, perform these rescues, protect life and protect property. Unfortunately again, it was a tragic incident. Here is the info about the patients. A total of five of them. There was one male. Adult victim. There was three adult females and one teenage female. The only ones that are surviving right now are two of the adult fema females. Everybody else tragically succumbed to their injuries on scene. They have been turned over to the coroner. There is no personal information thats been released. Most of the family members are in san jose. Were waiting for those families to get the information from the coroner before any personal information is released with. That, unless you have any questions, im going to turn it over to the rest of our department members. Were they all related to each other . We have been given information that possibly the teenage female had family members on board. Its unconfirmed if all of them were family. Out of the five members, we are not sure how many of them were family members. How did the two survivors manage to survive such a plunge and fiery impact . Where did you find them . Were they somehow in some safe place . When we arrived on scene, initial ports as you saw the news yesterday, we did a rapid search of the residents impacted by the aircraft that came down. We came on scene and assessed and saw there was a chance for saveable victims inside the house. Our firefighters found one of the victims inside one of the bedrooms. They went in with thermal imaging cameras. We had firefighters at the window waiting to retrieve any survivable body that came out of there. We had firefighters inside, zero visibility. They found one of the victims in the room. They assisted that female adult patient out of the window. Firefighters were waiting and pulled them out. The second victim was found in the vicinity of the crash. Again, i would like to thank the citizens of riverside of staying out of the way and assisting when needed of pulling that victim across the street to safety. [ inaudible ] we do not know who the pilot was. The bodies that were removed on scene is one male, adult patient, one female adult patient and one teenaged female patient. We do not know who the pilot was. The bodies were released over to the coroner. We cannot confirm the pilot at this time. [ inaudible ] the conditions of the survivors, one of them is at the burn center in arrowhead regional. Both are listed in Critical Condition. Unfortunately the victim that was found in the bedroom has a large amount of body surface area burns, third degree of 90 of her body. When they pulled her out, we had numerous amounts of resources on scene. She was transported off scene, same with the second adult female patient. Shes been listed in Critical Condition due to burns, and both are still alive today at the hospital. [ inaudible ] any information about the aircraft im going to refer that to the National Transportation safety board. Any questions that have to do with the aircraft or the details on that, theyll be talking here shortly. [ inaudible ] there will be proximaapproxi 3 00 more information. If theres any more questions operationally, i would be glad to answer those. Otherwise, im going to pass it on to the councilman. [ inaudible ] it has been confirmed that the five total were aboard the aircraft. We had to do a rapid search. We had to make sure that all the neighboring houses, including the house that was impacted youve been watch thing live news conference, updating us on the conditions survivors and three people died in this crash. The basic information is still the same. A man, woman, a teenage girl all died, two females survived. One of them has third degree burns on 90 of her body. They were coming home from a cheer leading competition. The plane was on its way to san jose when it crashed into several homes shortly after taking off from riverside. Ronnie rivera is live for us in san jose. Reporter yes, we talked to the Union School District superintendent today. She said this is a close nit community. And since the news broke, theyve been flooded with questions about who those victims were aboard that plane. Its an amazing community, and theres just such an outpouring of love. The principal was on the phone with staff members. Through the wee hours of the evening. Reporter parents and teachers are calling the District Office with questions about this plane crash. A small plane bound for san jose crashed into two riverside homes in Southern California. It sparked a fire, three people, including a pilot and female teenager, died in the fiery crash. Two women survived. Not knowing is frightening to people. Knowing im certain will be frightening, as well. And our prayers go to the families of the victims. Reporter fire investigators say the family on the plane were heading back to san jose from riverside. They were there for a cheer leading competition. We do have grief counselors on site to support the students should we learn the identity of the victims. Reporter in Southern California today, investigators are searching the area to make sure there are no other victims. But they believe everyone is accounted for. Two homes were destroyed after the plane hit and burst into flames. Neighbors tell us the pilot is an experienced pilot who was traveling with his wife to see his granddaughter compete. The Union Middle School teen was one of the two from san jose taking part. The other school says all of the team members made it home safely. They were upbeat after a Strong Performance in the competition, but now theres a lot of anxiety and sadness about what happened. Grief counselors are here at the school all day as they await word on the identities of the victims. Live in san jose, abc7 news. Thank you. We are getting new information about what happened shortly after that plane took off. Things didnt look right according to one airport worker. Jessica . Reporter we are now hearing from an eyewitness who saw those folks and the plane just moments before the deadly crash. Abc news spoke to the coowner of the airport cafe. She says she saw the plane try to take off at least three times in the heavy rain. It returned to the terminal and the people on the plane went to her cafe. Then they left in a hurry without ordering anything, and again headed to the plane and says when they took off, it didnt look right. The plane went really funny, like this. I was so worried when they left. I said why are they leaving, you know . It was cloudy and very, very strong raining. Reporter fpennington says se thinks they left so quickly trying to catch a break in the storm. 30 minutes later, her daughter called her to tell her about a small plane that crashed. The rebar is exposed and this is workers just getting going on the repair here. So looks like theyre having to break that up more before they fill it. So the estimate for all of that being done and the lane reopening, 5 00 p. M. That is not good news for the afternoon commute for those folks heading back up. Theres your backup right now. Mission boulevard not looking too bad. Of course, the long way around, you can take 880 to 580. But definitely keep an eye on that. That could be a big headache for the afternoon commute. Thank you. In fact, our model shows a little bit of light rain noon across the north bay as we head into the evening hours. A few scattered showers are possible as we head into sunday during the morning and into the afternoon hours. In fact, look at these rainfall amounts. Up to a tenth of an inch by saturday evening. By the time we get to sunday, possibly a quarter to half inch. I wanted to let you know its coming, because we have some really gorgeous weather the next couple of days. Amy explains it shows us how quickly any of us could get into an unexpected roadblock. Reporter these huge rocks tumbled onto interstate 580 at 5 15 this morning. A driver realized what was happening a split second before it happened. A vehicle was coming along and wasnt able to avoid that slide or debris, that person attempted to avoid it. Another person that was coming up behind them did not see that first vehicle braking and there was a minor collision. Reporter two lanes were then shut down in livermore just before grant line road for nearly four hours while they worked to clean it up. The drivers were not hurt. I can imagine that they were shaken up. Theres nothing like driving in the dark at 5 15 in the morning and the next thing you know youre driving in rocks and debris. Reporter Officials Say its a tall order to ask that preventative measures be put into place, that its on the drivers to be extra careful. Do the best you can to scan the roadway ahead, and just drive with caution. Reporter officials know the commute back into the Central Valley will come through here tonight. But they hope drivers dont work themselves up into being too nervous about these unpredictable hillsides, that they will just need to be on high alert. The white house is promising an optimistic vision from President Trump tonight when he speaks in front of a joint session of congress. Hes set to call for a budget that calls for 54 billion in increases in defense spending and 54 billion in cuts to federal agencies, that are set to target the Environmental Protection agency and foreign aid.
