An all out strike is still a possibility. Were keeping all of our options open for president and ceo says they put out a new offer and are optimistic. But also saying some of the unions demands, like a four day workweek, are not sustainable. And now were learning more about Governor Newsoms plan to stop crime by investing hundreds of millions of dollars in dozens of cities and counties. Abc7 News Reporter lena howland live in San Francisco with how the money could help here in the bay. Well, here at dreamforce yesterday Governor Newsom talked all things Public Safety and Crime Prevention at the same time, his office announced the largest single investment to combat organized retail theft in golden state history. Now, as part of the governors real Public Safety plan, newsom plans to send 267 million to both Law Enforcement agencies and District Attorneys offices in 55 communities across the state in the bay area. We now know that includes places like San Mateo County, Santa Clara County. Daly city, San Francisco county, santa rosa, Sonoma County and Alameda County, just to name a few. Two in San Mateo County, thieves hit this sephora recently and stole 3,500 worth of perfume thieves also hit this lego store and stole just as much in lagos. Police did make arrests in both cases. San mateo county supervisor david canepa says he welcomes the grant money slated for his sheriffs department, but he thinks more changes are needed, especially with current legislation. We have to look at these penalties and the penalties that we have in place arent working when it comes to retail theft and organized crime. That has to be revised. And we have to look at prosecuting at a higher level than is currently being prosecuted at. Thats why 13 District Attorneys offices across the state could also get a little more than 2 million each in the bay area. That include Alameda County, santa clara and San Francisco. If approved by the board of state and community corrections, these 55 communities could see this money as early as october first of this year. Live in San Francisco, lena howland, abc seven news. Price has been doing these town halls in several communities over the summer. Abc7 News Reporter Gloria Rodriguez is in the newsroom with why some of prices policies are really dividing the community. Good morning, reggie. There have been many heated moments in the town halls that price has done and last night was no exception with some even storming out of the event. Alameda County District attorney pamela prices town hall meeting drawing about 100 people to the Niles Discovery Church in fremont on wednesday. More than 300 people joined on zoom, and there was a recall rally before the meeting. Her opponents, who believe she is too soft on crime , are spearheading a recall effort. Some last night believe she avoided answering audience questions, but she defended her record since taking office and talked about reform that she shes brought to the das office. She also hit back at claims that shes not tough on crime and says she believes the amount of guns in the community plays a large part in the violence. One particular point of contention was her view on charging enhanced warrants, something many in the audience say that they want to see more of. But something the da does not always agree with and an issue that price campaigned on the use of those enhancements has driven the explosion of prisons has forced us to invest in prisons versus education. I believe in reform. I dont believe in letting murderers out on close to no charges. So there has to be punishment before you can have reform. Patricia harriss son was killed and she believes that price did not prosecute his killer harshly enough, saying the killers charges were reduced to involuntary with enhancements taken away and price remains committed to her platform of criminal justice reform. She says a crime wave started before she took office. Live in the newsroom, Gloria Rodriguez, abc seven news. Gloria thank you. And the conversation doesnt end there.
