The rescues and images still coming in at this hour. First respondersn the that horrific crash involving a Greyhound Bus and a semi on interstate 40 in new mexico. Authorities say multiple people have died and many are injured. You can see large chunks of both vehicles littering the highway. Greyhound says the bus was headed from albuquerque to phoenix with nearly 50 passengers onboard. Abcs Clayton Sandell leads us off. Reporter tonight, a horrific accident triggering a desperate race against time on a new mexico highway to save the injured. Officials say at least four passengers on this Greyhound Bus are dead after the bus, with 48 people onboard and a tractor trailer appear to have collided along interstate 40. A semitruck was traveling eastbound on i40 when it blew out a tire. The semitruck then lost control, crossed over the center median. That semitruck and the bus collided headon. Reporter the front of that bus, completely sheared off. Parts of it in pieces. Next to it, the tractor trailer, also torn apart, its cap upside down. A former volunteer firefighter driving past the scene and ahead of First Responders jumping into action. I saw a lot of the people laying on the ground and saw how crushed the bus was. And just saw a lot of chaos and devastation. Reporter rescue workers using ladders to get inside the bus, looking for any injured passengers. More than 40 people rushed to nearby hospitals. The ntsb launching a go team to investigation. The interstate temporarily shut down. Traffic backed up as far as the eye can see. Clayton sandell, abc news, denver. Workers trapped by a suspected methane blast at a water plant. At least ten people hurt. Firefighters climbing through debris, searching for victims buried deep when the roof collapsed on top of them. Abcs alex perez is at the scene tonight. Reporter just before 11 00 a. M. , an explosion reported at this Water Purification plant in chicago. A huge portion of the roof collapsing. Ten employees buried in the rubble. We got a total collapse of the structure. We have multiple victims trapped. Reporter the collapse, authorities suspect, triggered by a buildup of methane gas. A massive response from emergency teams working to free those inside. Certain areas right now are unsafe to enter due to the structure. Reporter teams quickly able to rescue eight employees. 20 minutes after arriving, crews rescue another employee. On a stretcher, hes rushed to medics. But one man remains trapped. His leg, fractured, dangerously pinned underneath all of that heavy debris, unable to move. Its a concrete building. Concrete walls, concrete roof, concrete ibeams on the ceiling. So, the gentleman that was pinned severely was trapped by the concrete truss. Straight down, pancake collapse. Reporter some 70 firefighters and rescuers working to burrow through the concrete. Some on their hands and knees, others with their ears pressed against the rubble until finally, they are able to reach the remaining employee. We tunneled in about 40 feet, six feet below the collapse. We used the equipment that we had. We had to remove some concrete, cut some concrete. We sent two paramedics down. Reporter at one point, First Responders fearing they may have to amputate his leg. But after two stressful hours, that man finally brought out alive. We see him there on the stretcher. Alex perez joins us live now outside that plant. Alex, you just mentioned at one point, paramedics had a very tough decision to make with one of those trapped workers, but they were able to pull off that remarkable rescue. Reporter tom, thats right. Authorities initially thought they would have to amputate that employees leg, but luckily, that was not the case. They were actually able to get medics inside that space where he was trapped. They got him an iv and were able to prevent him from going into shock. Tom . Next tonight, the former College Student accused of impersonating a doctor at a Childrens Hospital in california. Authorities say he was repeatedly able to sneak in over several months. Heres abcs will carr. Reporter Authorities Say 23yearold ariya ouskousian pretending to be a doctor fooled security at the Childrens Hospital of orange county, telling them he lost his i. D. , even gaining access to restricted floors. Ouskousian sneaking in at least seven times between april and june. He also allegedly even gave advice to a patient complaining of a growth on his neck at university of californiairvine. The Childrens Hospital believes he did not interact with the patients, but after he tried to get access to their Mental Health unit, they called the police. He was really wearing a doctors robe, his name on it and credentials. He was wearing around his neck, a stethoscope. Reporter so, he looked like a doctor . Oh, absolutely. Matthew, did you treat patients . Reporter this case, eerily similar to that of florida teen Matthew Scheidt in 2011. Then 17yearold scheidt posed as a physicians assistant for a month. Dressed in his scrubs, the stethoscope around the neck. Even had the terminology. Reporter scheidt was sentenced to a year in jail. Tom, tonight, ouskousian faces 11 years behind bars if convicted. Erin vandalinda granted an order of protection last year, accusing her neighbor of stalking.
