Stars turns up in the last place anyone expected. Get ready to, yes, dream on. Dream on dream on dream on you know when he goes really high . Dream on good morning, america. And speaking of dream on, steven tyler . Just happens to be there. What a moment for those musicians. So, well share that. And we also have other Musical Moments ahead. Mandisa, our very dear friend. Were going to debut her inspirational video coming up in our 8 00 hour. So, a lot of great things coming up. Right now, we begin with president obamas highstakes challenge over syria. Facing an uphill fight with congress over his call for a military strike. He will square off with Vladimir Putin at the g20 summit. Abcs Jonathan Karl is traveling with the president in st. Petersburg. Good morning, jon. Reporter good morning, george. President obama arrived here in st. Petersburg, russia, just a short while ago, just as russian president Vladimir Putin has upped his war of words with the u. S. , accusing the Obama Administration of lying about syria. President obama did not come here to st. Petersburg to meet with his nemesis, Vladimir Putin, but to attend a summit of world leaders. But putin is the host of the summit. And the two will undoubtedly exchange a few words and a handshake or two, their first facetoface encounter since russia granted asylum to one of americas most wanted fugitives, nsa leaker edward snowden. But the biggest point of contention today is syria. President obama challenged the world to support his call for a strike against syria for using chemical weapons. Noting they have been banned under International Law for nearly a century. I didnt set a red line. The world set a red line. Reporter the president said russias efforts to block action against syria have had deadly consequences. I think that International Action would be much more effective. And ultimately, we can end deaths much more rapidly, if russia takes a different approach to these problems. The resolution is agreed to. Reporter the president won a narrow victory on capitol hill late wednesday, when the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a resolution of attacking syria. John kerry urged the house to support the resolution. But he found himself under attack by president putin, who, in remarks carried on russian television, accused him of lying about the presence of al qaeda among the syria rebels. The president s staff is intently focused on the debate back in washington, where a growing opposition from conservatives and liberal democrats in the house, usually some of his closest allies, have made passing that resolution authorizing force against syria, even more difficult than they had thought. And john, that begs the question of what the president would do if the resolution goes down. When i talked to secretary of state kerry on sunday, he seemed to suggest that the president would strike no matter what. But thats not exactly what youre hearing. Reporter thats right, george. The public posture remains the same. That the president retains the right, the authority to attack syria, regardless of what congress does. But the belief among his senior aides is that, if Congress Rejects this resolution, the president would almost certainly not go forward with a military strike on syria. Raising the stakes even more. Okay, jon karl, thanks very much. Now, to the Storm Brewing in the atlantic. Tropical storm gabrielle getting stronger, as Hurricane Season is about to reach its peak just days from now. Sam is here with the latest. And you just said it moved out of the atlantic . It made a step into the caribbean. This has been the quietest Hurricane Season since 2002. As you said, getting to the peak, you would expect some activity. Lets show you who is in the way of this storm, and how theres almost a force field over the u. S. Right now. You have a 10 chance of development there. A 10 chance of development a little north of gabrielle. As we go into the spyglass view, that closeup view, that circle of concern. And youre noticing the expansion of the clouds around puerto rico. Here, were talking about a rainmaker and a problematic rainmaker. It could be a foot of rain in the mountains of the dominican republic. And a good, heavy sixinch rainfall in puerto rico. That means flooding. And its likely to mean some big trouble for those folks. Now, what happens when it starts to move . Does it develop . Does it get closer to hurricane strength . And does it get close to the u. S. . We have this unusual cold pattern in the northern part of the u. S. Thats going to act like a force field. Its going to shove this thing out, and protect it from the u. S. , to keep it from getting close to it right now. Well continue to watch this storm moment by moment. Its the Hurricane Season. Its the peak of Hurricane Season, as we know. The timing might not mesh. Its been quiet so far, for the Hurricane Season is concerned. Josh elliott is here with the other top stories. Good morning, josh. Good morning to you. Were going to begin with some breaking news out of egypt. A rare bombing in cairo, targeting the countrys interior minister. Now, he survived the attack. But there are growing concerns this could be the beginning of a frightening trend toward more violence and terrorism in that country, already in the throes of so much political and social turmoil. Meanwhile, here at home, thousands of walmart workers are walking off the job today in more than a dozen states. They are demanding higher wages and the right to unionize, similar to demands made by fastfood workers en masse last week. Walmart is denying a claim that 500,000 of its employees make less than 10 per hour. And scientists have released the largest study yet predicting the damage if california were hit by a tsunami. They said that a quake at alaska would send waves up to 23feet high, crashing into the coast. Requiring almost 1 Million People to evacuate. The ports of los angeles and long beach, you see them here in red, would be under water. Scientists hope this study will help authorities better prepare for such an emergency. Now, to George Zimmerman, stopped by police yet again. He was caught speeding and this time he got more than a warning. Abcs matt gutman shows us. Reporter this morning, Police Video Shows George Zimmerman as you have seen him before. Reason i stopped you was for speeding. 60. Reporter pulled over for speeding, the second time in just over a month. You have your registration and insurance . In my glove compartment. Reporter the 29yearold was slapped with a 256 ticket on tuesday, just three miles from where he shot and killed Trayvon Martin in february 2012. Not guilty. Reporter in the ten weeks since he was acquitted in that case, zimmerman hasnt been able to avoid the law or the limelight. Just days after the verdict, police said he helped a family escape an overturned car after an accident. And barely a week later in texas, he was stopped for speeding, a gun in his glove box. Dont collect your firearm, okay. Reporter and in august, he toured the company that made the pistol he used to kill martin. Despite his best efforts to stay under the radar, zimmerman once again has sped right through it. For good morning america, matt gutman, abc news, miami. Thank you there, matt. Meanwhile, a frightening scene for Police Responding to a crash in colorado. You see a car on fire there, after being hit. Then, that explosion. Turns out the driver was storing oxygen tanks in his trunk for his medical condition. Thankfully, no one hurt in that blast. And a narrow escape for this fellow at a gas station. Barely avoids getting hit by an suv that will enter the frame, rather suddenly. Interesting here. His decision to pay with a credit card instead of cash made have saved his life. He was forced to wait at the counter a few seconds longer. And again, you see what might have happened. And finally, we started the top of the show, some unsuspecting music fans in nashville. Fair to say they got their moneys worth. Little did they know, aerosmith frontman steven tyler happened to be sitting in the crowd. The blue bird cafe. He was there to listen. But then, this happened. Dream on, dream on dream on dream until your dreams come true as we discussed, right before the show, dream on, an aerosmith original, was on their debut album in 1973. As you can see here, he then posed for pictures. He said he never performed in a club that small. I will say, though, thats why nashville is one of the Great American cities. You can go into anywhere and get the best music in the country. It is phenomenal. Especially the blue bird. Indeed. I know. I feel a road trip coming on. I want to say. Road trip. Im in. Okay, thats coming up. Were going to turn now to Anthony Weiner, back in the spotlight as he struggles in the new yorks mayor race. This time, a camera caught him in a Heated Exchange of insults, nosetonose, with voter. Abcs linsey davis has the story. Reporter even with a mouth full of sweets, disgraced congressman and mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner found a way to give a voter a tonguelashing on wednesday. Thats courage. Thats courage. Reporter the Heated Exchange took place inside a brooklyn bakery. After the voter called weiner a derogatory name and said, he was, quote, married to an arab. Youre my judge . Youre my judge . What rabbi taught you that . Just stay out of the public eye. Reporter wednesdays verbal volley, may have been the final straw for a Campaign Already in freefall. Just 7 of voters here now support the onetime frontrunner, after he made national headlines, admitting he continued sexting with women, even after resigning from congress in 2011, when he was exposed for doing the same thing. Youre a bad example for the people. Thats your judgment . No, thats obvious. Im not running for office. Ask your rabbi who can judge me . Im not judging you. Im telling you thats not judging me. Thats not judging me. Dont be in public. Go home and get a job. Reporter in other words, not the job of new york city mayor. You need to deliver for yourself. I delivered for this community. Take care, buddy. Nice talking to you. Reporter later, when a twitter follower accused him of having a meltdown, weiner fired back. If by meltdown, you mean stood up to a heckler, he tweeted, yep. Those remarks that he called vile and racist, were about his wife, huma. And its worth noting, she has not been seen since her initial appearance with him at the press conference. Primary day just five days away and also worth noting, yesterday was Anthony Weiners birthday. Okay. Hes way behind right now. I wouldnt call that a meltdown. Yeah. Thank you there, linsey. Now, to a consumer alert for all parents taking their children to college. An abc news investigation has found that some 900 universities are collecting millions of dollars in what are essentially bounties from big banks for getting students to sign up for Checking Accounts and debit cards that many are surprised to find include expensive fees. Abcs brian ross has that story. Reporter as freshmen arrived at the university of minnesota, there was a marching band. Remarks from the president. Welcome to your new academic home. Reporter and a pitch to open a supposedly nofee Checking Account at the tcf bank, with the University Student i. D. Also serving as the tcf card. I think as the First Impression for a lot of students, i should get a tcf bank account. Makes sense. Reporter but the pitches we heard during orientation, leave out that the tcf is not always as free as tcf employees describe. Everything is free. No minimum balance. Again, everything is free on the card. Theres no minimum balance. Theres no monthly fees. Reporter only if the students press or if they read the fine print, do they discover tcf charges could include a 37 fee for any overdraft. Tcf said that the 37 fee doesnt happen that often. Thats substantial for a lot of students, it really is. Reporter according to the fdic, half of young adults will overdraft on average, seven times a year, which could mean hundreds of dollars in added fees for students. A simple internet search can often find a much better product, where the Checking Account is truly free. Reporter but its Good Business for tcf, who has just become the official bank of the university of minnesota, paying 35 million to have its name on the football stadium. According to the marketing contract, obtained by abc news, the bank pays the school 1 million a year. Including a bonus of 34 for every student who signs up. Like a bounty, says congressman george miller. They have the best deal for the university, not for their students. Reporter the president of the university of minnesota, eric hailer, refused to talk with abc news. As did his Public Relations man, as he handed us a written statement defending the tcf deal. Is it fair to students, would you say . Im not in a position to answer that question. Reporter the statement from the school and from the bank says students are free to choose any bank they want. And that the multimilliondollar contract helps pay for scholarships and other important programs. But the Consumer Financial protection bill will open an inquiry into those bills which they say often treat students as little more than backpacks and dollar signs. Good for the parents and the students to know. Reporter take a close look. Thats right. Thanks so much. Thank you, brian. Were going to turn to the latest on that montana judge who sparked outrage across the country after appearing to go easy on a teacher that assaulted his student. And as abcs Clayton Sandell reports, the state Supreme Court is now examining the case. Reporter after more than a week of nationwide backlash, this morning prosecutors in montana, say theyre going to the states highest court, fighting back against the sentence given to stacy rambold. Theres a fairly strong argument that the sentence the court imposed was improper. Reporter rambold, was convicted last month of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with moralez. Moralez later committed suicide. She was smart, artistic. She lit up a room. Reporter last week, judge todd baugh sentenced the teacher to 15 years, but then suspending all of it, sending him to jail forless than one month. Far less than the minimum required sentence. Baughs reasoning, that the teen acted older than her chronological age. And was partly in control of her situation. The judges comments prompted nationwide anger at the way he seemed to blame the victim. What that does is, it creates a culture of silence, in which victims are afraid to come forward. Reporter the judge quickly backtracked and issued an apology. What i said was demeaning to all women. Not what i believe in. Reporter even he now says the sentence he imposed was illegal. But prosecutors want another court to make the call. Clayton sandell, abc news, denver. Our thanks to Clayton Sandell for that. And lara, you have some chase here. This is a startling story. Incredible details about a brazen kidnapping in texas. A woman allegedly abducted as she left her office. But it was the quick thinking of two hero teens that saved her life. Yes, im on the highway. Im witnessing a robbery. Not a robbery, a kidnapping. Reporter thats the voice of 19yearold aaron arias, frantically making this call to 911. Its me and another guy were checking out the girl in the backseat because shes kind of attractive. And then, the guy turned back. We looked at the backseat. And the blonde female in the backseat was saying help me or something. Whispering it. So, im assuming its a kidnapping. Reporter the students followed the car on highway 175 for miles, staying on the phone with 911 operators, as police raced to find them. Oh, my god. Im hoping the car behind me is a police officer. Nope, its not. Oh, my god. Reporter within minutes, officers arrive and pull over the vehicle. Inside, they discover a 25yearold woman allegedly kidnapped after leaving an office party in downtown dallas. Thank god, you guys are awesome. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Get him. Reporter Police Arrested the driver of the car, Charles Adkins lewis jr. , charging him with aggravated kidnapping. He remains in jail on 50,000 bond. The woman was examined by paramedics but was not injured. Thank goodness for those quickthinking young men. You got that right, lara. We have a check of the weather with sam. Reallife drama. Reporter good morning x robin. The High School Freshmen took off in the middle of the night ten days ago. This morning, their parents are desperately searching for them. Two, young teens in love. And this morning, possibly in danger. 13yearold Jayden Thomas and 14yearold braxton wood. Their relationship so intense, their parents say, they appear to have run away together. I never thought jayden had this in her to do this. Reporter braxton is believed to have taken the family Ford Explorer in the early hours of monday, august 26th. We looked around the house, and we realized that braxton was missing. Reporter jayden had left her mom a note in lipstick on the mirror. She said, i love you so much. Stay happy and beautiful. So, i know she loves me. Reporter hours before they vanished, kelly says she told her daughter the sixmonth relationship had become way too serious. She said that she couldnt live without braxton. And thats when i felt that i had to, not necessarily completely pull the plug on the relationship, but try and bring my daughter back to reality. They didnt want to do anything but be together. They didnt want to hang out with friends. Their focus was each other. And thats pretty intense for a 14yearold. Reporter the starcrossed students were due to start their freshman year at different michigan high schools this week. And parents say they even briefly broke up, possibly because of that. Braxton told us he was heartbroken. We thought they had cooled it. We thought they were not seeing each other anymore. Reporter but it seems the intensity returned. The day that she left, i said i no longer support this relationship. Reporter its now been ten days with no word. The teens reportedly had just 82 between them and half a tank of gas. Police have few leads. And now, their parents are terrified the young couple could be in danger. Our worst fear is that theyll approach somebody, the wrong somebody. I just wish i knew what happened to them. Reporter a modernday romeo and juliet story, their parents hope will have a happier ending. A private investigator is helping the families. Police confirmed that the license plate was spotted in michigan seven days ago. They didnt have much money. So, the hope is theyre still in the state somewhere. Hope theyll come home soon. Linzie, thank you. Were going to turn now to the surprising twist for the california Grade School Principal released from jail for killing her husband. Abcs aditi roy is tracking the case. Reporter as friends and family gathered to say goodbye to todd chance wednesday, one person was notably absent, his wife of 17 years, janae. Ive seen somebody on the verge of tears thats crying. Somebody thats concerned what happened to everybody. Reporter the elementary School Principal was released from jail just hours before she was scheduled to be arraigned tuesday, on charges she murdered her husband. Instead, prosecutors let her go. Saying theyre sending the case back for further investigation. Her lawyer says she is innocent. Shes not guilty of a crime. Shes free to leave or to travel. But her life is here. And shell be here with her children. Reporter the veteran educator was arrested august 29th, six days after her husbands body was discovered near this orchard. At the time, investigators said they had recovered the murder weapon and had evidence showing chance had ditched todds car at an intersection 20 miles away. We believe that shes the person responsible for shooting him to death. Reporter police are reportedly standing by their investigation. And the d. A. Says chance may still be rearrested. At the Elementary School disbelief. Staff still is in shock. We want them to know theyre supported. And whatever they need, were there for them. Reporter chances daughter tells abc news, we love our mom and dad and cant even begin to comprehend what is happening. As friends and family rally behind chance this morning, investigators are back at work, looking for more evidence to prove who killed her husband. For good morning america, adeet owe roy, abc news, bake s bakersfield, california. Lets get more from abcs chief Legal Affairs anchor, dan abrams. This is not something you see every day. When the prosecutor says, not enough evidence from the police, sends it back to the police and says, you guys keep investigating this. People sometimes forget that the first step is police make an arrest on suspicion of. But then, the d. A. Has to file the charges which say, in effect, we believe we can prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt. In this case, the prosecutor is saying, we dont think we can do that yet. Based on the evidence presented. But leslie chance not free and clear . Not at all. When the authorities coming out and saying shes the sole suspect, you know that theyre going to remain focused on her. It seems that theres one something that the prosecutors dont feel they have yet. What could that be . It could be motive. Although, they say theyre working on that. If you think about the timeline. They believe shes in the car with her husband, 7 30 in the morning, drives to this place out in the field. Kills him there. Leaves the body there. Drives the car some miles away, leaves the car there and is seen, allegedly, walking out of the car. Theyre probably looking for trace evidence, fingerprints, blood, other items that would tie her specifically to the crime. Meantime, she is totally free, able to do anything, including leave the country. Yeah. Thats right. But the authorities are watching her. If she starts heading to an airport, i think the authorities would be watching her very closely. We remember in the Scott Peterson case. He was in san diego, they thought heading to mexico when he was arrested. So, you see that sometimes. No indication that shes going anywhere at this point. But theres no question the authorities are going to have a close eye on her. Okay, dan abrams, thank very much. Lets get to sam with the weather. Were going to talk about the heat thats been in the middle of the country thats been edging a little bit west. Salt lake city has had 75 days of 90plus so far. Theyre going there again today. Now, you see the other people, whats going through both of your minds at that moment . Im mad because we didnt win. We were furious. We had the wrong style. I agree. Gelman said i should not be carried like that. He didnt think it was a flattering angle. So, i was headup. But i immediately realized when we went through the underpass, that my head almost came off of my body. That i had the wrong end facing up. Yes. If ever given the opportunity to do wifecarrying 2, the thing we learned is how to carry. And i dont have that pesky hair. That hair wont hold me down. And we will win. I can do one more. I can make weather tight. Lets do the Football Challenge with taylor lautner. This is the Football Challenge. Ready for this . What in the world is going through your mind now, kelly . So happy to have oscar and grammywinner, Jennifer Hudson. Thank you. This morning. Im telling you. I watched it and i realize that you, a little method acting for her. That was a scene. She was confined for 500 days, solitary confinement. And you confined yourself to the prison set to get that going. What was it like for you . It was draining and emotional. I wouldnt help but think of winnie and the fact she really went through that. I wanted to have it backtoback. I could feel as closely to whatever she may have felt in 300 to 500 days. Four days is no comparison at all. I was overwhelmed. And for her to be missing her children, not knowing if theyre alive. Not knowing if someones taken them or if theyre being taken care of. Not knowing if its day or night. All of that. And i think people forget that she really kept her husband, at the time, his message of hope alive. Exactly. When we were hearing from him, we were hearing from her. Many people feel like they know her. And to play somebody in real life like this, a little different for you. So, what was that like . I was very intimidated because shes such an iconic figure. Once i got to africa and i was like, shes a treasure. How dear she is and was to so many. Like, oh, my god, i have to take this seriously. If im not going to hop in 100 , i should go home. I had that moment, can i handle this . And if i do it, it has to be allin. I respect the fact that you take all angles. She is beloved but also controversial. And you dont shy away from that in the film. Its the complete picture of who she is. This is one of three films. What do you learn each time . I dont believe in boxes or limits. I love trying new things. And i love a challenge. Each project is very different. Theyre all dear to me in a different kind of way, which endear me to move the project. They are 13 is coming out. And theres another musical, which will be out in november. And speaking of the musical, you have new music coming out. A single coming out and working on the album. I was in the studio yesterday. I feel like im on triple duty. Its quite busy. But im loving the process. Im writing in the studio. Getting my feet wet as a real artist and not just a vocalist. We want to show a picture. Its Throwback Thursday here on good morning america. Jennifer hudson, this is your life. This is the audition for american idol. Thats almost like ten years ago. I was 22. Ill be oh, lord. Ill be 32 in a week. I know. On the 12th. When you look at that picture, what do you think about . When i look back there, i still cant believe how far ive come. I was a dreamer. I still am a dreamer. And to be able to achieve my dreams and so much more. Its like, its very for real. Thats me . That is you. Those are the reminders thats like, wow. Im still the same girl. Yes, you are. You are still that girl. Happy early birthday next week. Youre always good to us. And continued blessings in all that you do. Jennifer hudson, ladies and gentlemen. Oh, john legend.
