Pundits and flash polls give the victory to president obama in the third and final debate, with everything on the line. The president clearly set out not just to burnish his commander in chief credit on the debate stage, but to discredit mitt romneys. What we need to do with respect to the middle east, is strong, steady leadership, not wrong and reckless leadership that is all over the map. Reporter the president played that card repeatedly. So my first job as commander in chief as commander chief theres one thing i learned as commander in chief. Reporter romney seemed more cautious, with a modest goal of passing a threshold, not scoring a knockout. Attacking me is not an agenda. Attacking me is not talking about how were going to deal with the challenges in the middle east. Reporter at times, he suggestsed some of his policy views were not that much different than the president s a point mr. Obama repeatedly underlined. Im pleased youre endorsing our policy. Im glad that governor romney agrees with the steps were taking. It sounded like you thought youd do the same things we did. But youd say them louder and somehow that would make a difference. Reporter romney praised the president right off the bat for giving the order to have Osama Bin Laden killed. I congratulate him on taking out Osama Bin Laden and going after the leadership in al qaeda. Reporter perhaps romney hoped that could take the issue off the table. It did not. When you were a candidate in 2008, you said we shouldnt move heaven and earth to get one man. Reporter romney did score some points. Describing the unrest and chaos in the muslim world as evidence of obamas Foreign Policy failures. Using vocabulary worlds that soon became a top google search. Violence, chaos, tumult. Tumult . Tumult. Reporter and lambasting the policy tour in the middle east. Saying that the u. S. Has been dismissive and derisive. We have freed other nations from dictators. Reporter but the most talked about and tweeted line of the night, came as the president criticized romney for saying the u. S. Naval fleet should be larger, lecturing him on the military. We have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our militarys changed. We have these things call Aircraft Carriers where planes land on them. We have ships that go under water, nuclear submarines. And so, the question is not a game of battleship, where were counting ships. Reporter horses and bayonets, now a line republicans are using to paint president obama as antinavy. For romney, perhaps the strongest moment, george, came when he talked about creating jobs in the u. S. , pivoting from the subject of the debate. And of course, both candidates will be talking about the economy and jobs in the u. S. In this last marathon dash, 14 days, in about 8 or 9 battleground states. Thats right, jake. And the Foreign Policy on the economy. Were going to turn to the running mates. I sat down with joe biden and paul ryan after last nights debate. And i began by asking about the Vice President about all those Foreign Policy issues where the candidates seem to agree. Its fair to say that the debate has evaporated. I mean, even back when i was debating congressman ryan, there were these massive disagreements on everything about syria, libya, egypt, et cetera. And now, its like i dont know. There was a conversion that took place here. I didnt see anything that the governor disagreed on. And he seemed to be desperately trying to demonstrate he agreed with the president s policies. It was sort of amazing. He did also, though, pivot to the economy again and again and again. Saying america cannot afford four more years like the last four. Well, he did. But then when he talked about competitiveness, the very things he talked about would make us weaker internationally, as the president pointed out. They have vissererated education. He talked about the economy. But he fell back on all the statistics that the Great Recession left us with. But i didnt hear anything that would say that well increase our standing in the world by being economically stronger based on what hes asserting. The president s line on fewer horses and bayonets getting a lot of play on twitter and across social media. And one of governor romneys had said that that is not going to go down as one of the president s finer moments. He said it was demeaning to the military. Your response . Demeaning for the military for the president to say the truth that one Aircraft Carrier is probably more powerful than the entire United States navy was back then . This is a Different Navy, george. The capacity, the fire power, our navy is superior to every other navy in the world combined. This is a fundamentally Different Navy that doesnt rest on the number of ships. It rests on the total capacity. As the president said, on one Aircraft Carrier, we have more air power than almost every nation in the world has in their air force. The first polls weve seen on cbs gives a big win for the president. His team made up for that in the appearance in the first debate . He clearly made up for that. What governor romney showed today, and i felt a little badly because its clear he is not ready to be the commander in chief of the United States military. He demonstrated a lack of sophistication about whats going on in the world. His rapid change in his position. Being president requires a clear vision and a steady hand. Thats exactly what president obama demonstrated tonight. And its exactly what governor romney demonstrated was lacking. Well, obvious, i disagree. I think this was a fantastic debate. I think governor romney won this debate. And you know why i think he won it . Americans for the third time got to see a man ready to become a great president. What they got from mitt romney, clear answers. A clear vision for Foreign Policy. Clear distinctions on how we should go forward in this country. What we got from president obama were mostly attacks on mitt romney. Thats not an agenda. And we really actually didnt get an agenda on how we should move our country forward on Foreign Policy. We got a defensive he tried to defend his record. Its a bad record. Turn on your tv. And you see that the obama foreign policies unraveling before us. Irans closer to a nuclear weapon. Syria is slaughtering their people. The arab spring is becoming an islamist winter in some countries. And we look weaker across the world. The first polls weve seen from cbs show a 30point win for president obama. Well, look. I think president obama basically spent half his time attacking mitt romney, not offering a new vision. And what mitt romney said heres what we can do better on iran policy. Heres what we should have done in all of the other areas. And more importantly, i think he did a great job of articulating a vision for americas role in the world, having a strong economy, a Strong America at home, a Strong Military, and being very resolute and certain in defense of our values overseas. You talk about the distinctions. It seemed to a lot of observers tonight that governor romney was seeming to reach out and emphasize what he agreed with president obama. Well, sure. On some things we do agree. We agree on the decision to get Osama Bin Laden. We agree on the transition in afghanistan. We agree to Carry Forward the Bush Administration drone strike policy. But where we do disagree is on the president s handling of iran. We do disagree with his russia policy. We do disagree with these devastating military cut which is make us look weaker which hollow out our military. We believe a Strong Military at home is strong Foreign Policy abroad. And we never should have to speak up for freedom, democracy, for equal rights, for womens rights. Thats what a good Foreign Policy does. Thats what we saw from mitt romney in this debate, the kind of demeanor and the kind of temperament and leader we need. David axelrod of the Obama Campaign said your state, wisconsin, is in the president s corner to stay. I beg to differ. Look, we won an impressive election in 2010. We won three various recalls. The Supreme Court race recall. Recall this summer. Its a close state. I feel good about it. I dont think in wisconsin we want to see four more years like the last four years. Congressman ryan, thanks for coming in. You bet, thanks, george. The view of the campaign. Lets look at this with matthew dowd. And i wonder, matthew, youve given the last two debates to president obama. But i wonder if both candidates had a point. But over the course of the three debates, governor romney established himself as a credible candidate. Governor romney took this from a fivepoint deficit from the first debate and theyre now even. Weve had three rounds. Its been mixed. The number of punches thrown. Now, it goes to the score cards that the judges have. Theres about 500,000 judges out there. That are going to score this fight on november 6th. Only 500,000 judges. Whats the one thing youre looking for in the last two weeks . I think how they motivate their troops and what they do with that. Keep in mind, one thing we dont know. Theres probably going to be an unexpected event that could turn this race in the very end. Theres some concern that between that area of High Pressure and this moving front, this thing do get steered very close to the eastern coast of the u. S. By this time next week, we could have a storm right in here and that is worth watching. And a lot of folks have to have their eyes on sandy. The parents of 14 Anais Fournier claim that their daughter went into cardiac arrest after drinking two large cans in 24 hours. Anais had a mild heart condition. The family is suing monster, who denies having a role in her death or the others being investigated. And some tragic news overnight in the search for the missing 12yearold in new jersey. Police believe they found the body of autumn pasquale in a recycling container. Not far from where she disappeared. She was seen riding her bike to a friends house on saturday. Police have not publicly identified any suspect as yet. And a major heist in las vegas. Security cameras at the Venetian Hotel caught the man you see there, who made off with 1. 6 million in casino chips. Learning more this morning about the gunman who opened fire at a spa there sunday morning. Abcs alex perez has the story. Reporter this morning, were hearing the voice of Radcliffe Haughtons wife, zina, describing one of his outbursts in courtroom audio. Obtained by abc affiliate wisn. He pulled a gun from behind his pants. And it accidentally went off between me and my daughters head. Reporter the audio was recorded as she sought a restraining order against her estranged husband october 18th. I dont want to die. I just dont want to die. Reporter she was granted that order, which also required him to turn over any firearms. Two days later, haughton had reportedly purchased a new gun, then stormed into his wifes salon and opened fire, killing zina, two other women and then himself. It was just pop, pop, pop, pop. It was just it never stopped. Reporter zinas longtime customer, betty bruner, was sitting in her chair, as zina pleaded with her husband to spare others. I think she felt responsible for the whole salon. I think she wanted to protect all of us. Reporter haughton wasnt swayed. This morning, bruner says, theres only one reason shes still alive. Because of her, thats why im sitting here. I think thats why theres a lot of people that got out of there alive. Reporter and she says she thinks the reality of all this has just not hit her yet. Maternity nurses testifying he got physical when they tried to prevent him from taking his newborn son out of the hospital. Well have the latest on the highprofile trial. It could be an explosive day for Britney Spears and her family when her former manager takes the stand today. Will he reveal secrets that the family has been trying to keep under wraps . Ooh. All right. Lets get right to the Kennedy Family, Douglas Kennedy, robert f. Kennedys son, on trial right now. Hes facing accusations of harassment and child endangerment after that heated argument with nurses earlier this year on whether or not he could take his newborn out of the hospital. Abcs john muller has the very latest on the days events. John . Reporter a Maternity Ward nurse testifying that kennedy twisted her arm and kicked another nurse to the floor. Kennedys lawyers stating that the nurses were overly aggressive and his son simply wanted to get his newborn son fresh air. This was Douglas Kennedy on surveillance video, allegedly getting physical with nurses trying to take his new son, beau, out of the hospital in january. This was a subdued kennedy, on monday, outside of a mount kisco, new york, courthouse. Very grateful that the day is finally here. Reporter the youngest son of the late Robert Kennedy is now on trial, accused of child endangerment and harassment, all because of this clash. At the time, the new father told nurses, he wanted to take his 2dayold son out for fresh air. As he headed for the elevator, they stopped him and called security. Arguing kennedy didnt have permission. So kennedy headed to the stairwell. Thats where prosecutors say things really got rough. Just watch as a nurse falls back on the ground. In court monday, prosecutors told a judge kennedy intentionally kicked that nurse. But Defense Attorneys counter he was only instinctively trying to protect his new child. Its been very difficult for douglas and his family. Reporter on monday, angela adamo, the first nurse who talked with kennedy told the judge, quote, i didnt know what to say. It didnt make any sense for him to take the baby out for air. We dont take babies out. She called her supervisors and then security. I was trying to do anything to keep the baby from leaving the unit. But when kennedys attorney asked if there was a policy of a father taking a baby outside, adamo admitted she had, quote, never seen one. Meantime, monday, nurses from the area showed up in court wearing red tshirts to support their colleagues. Theyre doing their job. They were supposed to protect the baby. And thats what they tried to do. Reporter outside of court, kennedy said hes looking forward to putting it all behind him. Ready for this to start. Thank you very much. And hopefully, everything will turn out okay. Reporter now, kennedys attorneys argue not only were the nurses confrontational but even seeking personal gain. Defense attorneys paint the nurses as looking out for the childs best interest. Amy . All right, john thanks so much. And for more, lets bring in gma legal analyst, dan abrams. Two parts to this. Harassment and child endangerment. Which is the stronger case . Harassment, by far. Harassment isnt typically what you think of harassment, in terms of the english language. Harass mant legally means striking, kicking. And the defense is essentially conceding that that happened. On surveillance tapes showing it. Thats right. The child endangerment is the more serious charge and the more difficult charge. But as a technical matter, its going to be hard to get around the harassment charge. Look, the bottom line is, in my view, if this wasnt Douglas Kennedy, there wouldnt be criminal charges in connection with this case. Enormous amounts of pressure on the d. A. To take action. It doesnt mean he didnt do anything wrong. But it means that this type of case tends to get resolved in civil courts, meaning over money damages. This one is criminal. Even though he is facing jail time with this, Douglas Kennedy turned down a plea deal to avoid court altogether. Do we think he will take the stand . Hes got to take the stand. Its all about the context. Its about why did this happen . And how did this happen . I dont think they can put on a serious defense without him testifying here. But hes got this challenge with the technical definition of harassment because he is conceding he kicked the nurse. And as a result, could be trouble. And how much jail time . Under harassment i dont think there will be any jail time. Hes convicted under child endangerment, a little more serious. But even there, he could probably escape with no or very small amount of time. Dan abrams, thanks so much. We have video proof, now, that not all criminals are masterminds. Take a look at this man setting up a hidden camera. Police say he used it to spy on women. But it helped them to catch the peeping tom. And reena ninan has the details. Reporter caught on camera. Instead of capturing images of two female roommates with hidden cameras, police say this man filmed himself, and in the process, helped them catch him redhanded. 42yearold Michael Stephen mckenny was arrested thursday after Maryland Police released this footage of the alleged peeping tom setting up his cameras. What we found was the camera had been set up in june. And it was operated through a motion detector. Reporter in court documents, police say for more than four months, mckenny was able to capture images of the women in their bathrooms and bedrooms, in all stages of undress. Even using the toilet. Police say mckenny was brazen, entering the apartment multiple times during the day, to reposition his leering lens. He knew these young women. He stole their keys, copied them and returned them before they had an opportunity to notice. Reporter watch him here, as he appears to wipe away his own footprints. Its not the first time weve seen it here. People are able to do these things very surreptitiously. Reporter women across the country unwittingly caught on camera again and again. In tampa, florida, these roommates wanted answers after they found an elaborate camera system in their apartment in 2011. I just wanted to know what happened with our videos. I want to know the whole story because now i dont know. Reporter prosecutors later dropped the case, saying the camera never worked. In ohio, police say this man made his intentions clear when he allegedly put his cell phone under a dressing room door. The woman inside, none too pleased. I pushed him then i punched him in the face a couple times until he went down. Reporter he was charged of voyeurism, but has not been convicted of a crime.
