So for some of us, what you want to think about is having just a little bit of an abdominal contraction so that you dont have quite as much space between the floor or your mat and your back. So tuck your tail underneath you just a little bit, feel those abdominals engage and hold them for the rest of the excercise. From there, youre going to use the legs and the glutes to press up off the floor. So i get the question all the time how far do i need to lift up off the floor to get a good, quality bridge . The answer is, whatever core contraction and you can just lift up off the floor maybe an inch or a half inch, thats great. Thats where you start. The more you practice, the more strength youll get and then youll notice that youre able to come up off the floor a little bit more every time. So if thats gotten easy for you and you want a little more challenge, you can take and cross one leg over the knee, or some folks are more co leg into the air. Its completely up to you, whatever is more comfortable. And the same rules apply. Little abdominal contraction to set your core, glutes activate and a little bit of hamstring to lift you off the floor. Same thing you want to do this in a slow and controlled Movement Just like you did the bridge with both legs on the floor. And the last but not least thing thats most important is to keep your pelvis level. So if i tuck my pelvis and i lift myself up off the floor, i that could lead to increased back pain which we dont want you to have to be going through. So you want to really focus on really keeping that spine level on the way up and on the way down.
