Morning flooding is impacting flooding at the nashua dam on thursday, september 22nd, 2016. Emergency management officials in Butler County says the town of greene is one of the hardest hit areas. Trees have even fallen on some homes and power lines in that area. Early on thursday morning, ditches along some roads including 110th st. Leading into greene are flooded. A kcrgtv9 crew attempting to get into town had to turn around multiple times after running into flooded roads. Butler county Emergency Management tells tv9 people were out on wednesday night sandbagging in preparation for thursdays flooding in main roads and several basements flooded. Authorities even had to evacuate some residents in greene due to dangerous conditions. In floyd county, nearly every road across the southwestern portion of the county is under water. Area rivers including the cedar river, Shell Rock River and winnebago river will rise due to heavy holding a news potential. Thats at 2 00 this afternoon. She says shes considering a curfew after the after the last two nights of protests. Together to get through this difficult time, this unusual time in our history. The family of keith scott says he was unarmed when police shot him. They say he was carrying a book and not a gun. In manhattan, the fbi is looking for two men who were witnesses to saturdays bombings in the chelsea neighborhood. Investigators say these men a duffel bag, left the device behind and then took the bag. The nypd says the men are witnesses they want to talk to and are not accused of any crime. A special election this december will fill a state senate seat after the death of a senator from davenport. Senator joe seng died on september 16th after a two year battle with brain cancer. He continued to serve in the senate while undergoing regular chemotherapy treatments. The special election will be Terry Branstad said he would have held the election on november 8th to ensure a higher turnout. But the scott county auditor decided it would be too difficult to hold that election and the general election on the same day. A new ad attacks iowa state senator liz mathis record. The initial bill also had 1 Million Dollars for the Economic Development authority to fund unspecified golf tournaments. Mathis did vote for that golf were stripped out of the final bill, which mathis also supported. The socalled wasted money was never actually spent. Then theres this claim that in the same year mathis was. Opposing a tuition freeze for iowa students. The senator had also voted in favor of an Education Funding bill. It included school money for a tuition freeze at iowas three public universities. During debate, mathis voted against an amendment mandating a tuition freeze. But she ultimately voted for the funding that made that tuition freeze possible. Her vote against the amendment was really against the mandate. Saying she opposed a tuition freeze is a stretch. About a fifth of university of iowa female undergrads, who completed a recent scho since enrolling. Thats one finding of a firstofitskind study on sexual crimes at the iowa city campus. The ui conducted the Sexual Misconduct survey, called speak out iowa, last fall. The survey was available to all ui students, but only nine point three percent of them responded. On top of that, theres no way to know if the people who took the survey were more or less likely to experience Sexual Misconduct. So, these findings only represent those who took the survey, not since enrolling, 21 percent of undergrad females, who finished the survey, reported being raped but not necessarily on campus. Female undergrads have increased risk of rape during their first semester. Alcohol is a common factor. 56 percent of Sexual Assault victims reported the offender was drinking. 76 percent felt the university would likely or very likely take a report seriously. The summer gave us an opportunity to do a thorough review of the key findings, discuss them with key quite considerable conversations about whats next. The University Says it has three major goals for improvement. One to expand and create new Sexual Misconduct prevention and education programs. Two work on improving intervention methods. So the district brought a Pilot Program to wright Elementary School this year. It notifies parents when their student is absent from school a certain number of times. The school also added a student liaison to help encourage attendance. The school says since the start of the program, absences have dropped by 7 percent. It has also helped improve communication with parents. Relationship with parents and asking uh if they cant have their kids here on timewhats the barriers that may be causing that, that breakdown in getting here on time or even here at all . Wright elementary will also recognize students each month for perfect attendance. Grieving the loss of a loved one can be difficult for children. Unity point hospice and cedar memorial are holding an annual childrens grief camp to help kids get over that hurdle. Camp embracing memories will its for kids ages 7 to 16 who have lost a loved one. These are some pictures from previous years. Throughout the camp, children will participate in art, play, music, and pet therapies. Berevement coordinators say camp is a way to give children a chance to cope. 6 32 we need to be able to get those feelings out. We need to be able to connect with other kids who have those losses. We need to have adults who support us and listen to us. Those are all ways that kids can get those feelings out and continue on with their grief journey camp. He says the city wants to own this property in development in that area. Because there is no immediate need for the city to tear down the house or do anything with the property, theyre allowing the family to stay put until december of 2017. The city will charge the family one dollar per month to live here. But there are a few strings attached. They have to pay all of the real estate fees. Gas, electric everything. Plus property taxes, everything like that. Psihoyos says the city has made deals like this in the past, to help make way for other developments.
