More than 700 people have signed a petition to dissolve and divide students between neighboring districts. The school board will eventually need to ask voters for apprrval. If the majority approves the referendum, the district would dissolve. This push comes after the District Voted to close the schol building in gladbrook. All of those students moved into two schools in reinbeckckhis fall. Kids in kindergarten through 6th grade now go to the Elementary School building, and students in 7th through 12th grade go to the high school building. Kcrgtv9s chris earl joins us live in the newsroom tonightt chris, dissolving a district doesnt happen quickly. Yes, the superintenden t says many steps much take place first such as this dissolution commission making a recommendation to the schoolloard ann then the board actsts. Then its put to a vote. Probably still a year off. Yet district leaders still have to make plans for what to do if Gladbrook Reinbeck ceases to exist. Outside of the gladbrookreinbeck Elementary School. In reinbeck, theres a robust feeling of rebel pride the gr Football Team is in the state football tournament this week. Yet for the rebels playing at the unidome, theres rebellion throughout parts of the district. Lastear, the district closed the Elementary School in gladbrook leaving only to buildings open. In reinbeck, 16 miles away. Back in gladbrook. There was pretty much a petition filed from residents in that community to dissolve the district so its not really the wishes, from what ive gathered, of the reinbeck folks to dissolve. They would prefer to keep it open, i believe. On wednesday night, a Dissolution Committee met for an hour talking about what neighboring districts would consider taking on. For students. Or buildings. Gladbrook is less than ten miles from green mountaingarwin. Reinbeck is about the same to grunn center. Annee boyer r s on the school board. And leading this committee but called the call to dissolve gladbrookreinbeck an extreme solution. Weve been traveling the 16 miles for years. Its what weve wanted to do. Reinbeck didnt initially go with grundy. Gladbrook didn inititally go with gmg were gr. I came in knowing they closed a buildidig, knowing there were hard feelings and i was hoping i could come in and mend fences and its hard to do with this process kind of looming over the top of us. While gladbrook doesnt have an Elementary School, more students are open enrolling at green mouain garwin which is cllser than reinbeck. Again, this is a long process. One seen all over the state in recent years but this divide over the next step does loom for gladbrookreinbeck. Live in the chririearl, kcrgtt. Were learning more about what a new Public Library in marion could look like. Coming up, see what a new Marion Library might include. People in marion are getting a better idea of what a new 12million Dollar Library could look like. Tonight, the Library Board heard some ideas for a new facility at a design session. The Library Board of trustees is looking to tear down the current building on sixth avenue and building mixedused facility. Officials say the Current Library is too small to meet the citys growing population. Though some people have expressed concerns, saying the Current Library is only about 20 years old. Kcrgtv9s jijil kasparie joons us live from outside the library. Jill, the design is coming along . The design showed residential units above the library and then a whole other section of residential and retail next door. People at tonights meeting asked questions asking about everything from traffic to technology and more. 13 21 00 its really got to make sense form the inside and outside people got a good look at what the new mixeduse facility marion Public Library could look like. But lilirary director doug raber says this is far from a done deal. 13 14 08 there are still a number of things that are up in the air that we hope to have and think wecan have resolved by the end of the year. He key step is realll having a concrete design to work with and we want to have that in place by the end of december or early january and at that time we will be in a place to resolve a lot of those issues 13 22 25 we have central arrival zone. And with community inpupu theyre geteting closer to having that design ready. Cara briggs farmer lives just blocks from the library. Shes ready to see the project come to life. 123 02 i feel like people are divided on the issue a ad i feel like a lot of that has happened because we are just not communicating with each other i feel like a lot of people dont understand what this Library Project is all about and people are scared of change. Thats understandable. Marion used to be a very small town and we are not a small town anymore. The Library Director calls this an innovative project with a lot of moving parts. Rabee says they could have done a better job communicating what the project is about, but hes working to continue to spread the news as the library moves along. Then the next step is for the arcsitect and the contractor, in this case, ryan companies, our private pararner to actually get together anddbegin to develop a cost model for the building as it is being designed. The Library Director says the big idea here is that the privately owned portions the residentialaland retail would bring in new tax dollars that would help pay for the Library Project.
