But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning report, im david geiger. A trade deal with europe looks less likely. Trade negotiators for the us and the European Union left scheduled talks in new york last week. Without much progress on the transatlantic trade and investment partnership. Or ttip. And the us negotiators rejected a request for three days of agricultural talk. The National Pork producers council. Says it is skeptical of more progress on the deal because of what they allege as stubbornness of the on beef, poultry, and pork. The eu says it will allow some Market Access for sensitive products. As long as the us agrees with reciprocal access and some geographical product protections. No talks are scheduled beyond october. Regulators in brazil have authorized the outstanding Biotech Products needed to open brazil for us corn exports. This would pave the way for imports of us corn. After a short corn crop in south america. Brazil has faced a big shortfall in corn this year. At about 16 Million Metric Tons fewer produced than the last growing season. To date. The us has not been able to fill the demand because of a lack of approval of us Biotech Products. The Grains Council says last weeks approval opens doors. But imports may still be limited to specific uses. In the markets. Corn is headed up. But cattle is still struggling weve seen a mixed type of is pulling us to the upside. And i think the bottom line, wheat has kind of reached the fair market value in the worlds of fund shorts, so were seeing some position squaring ahead of the wednesday all important fall monthly crop report thats going to be out at 11 00 on wednesday. The soybean market still continues to falter with big yield reports continuing. The Cattle Market continues to suffer under multiyear bear market. Almost 10 percent versus a year ago. Total beef production was up almost eight percent over a year ago. So its just too big of a number, too many cattle coming at us and the demand is too small but that hopefully changes now in a few months down the road. The hog market, i think what you have is a market thats heavy discounted. Fear remains that were going to run out of slaughter capacity as we move forward. We doubt that had six of the top slaughter weeks in history so thats the anchor. But it seems like a market thats searching for value. While not good in the u. S. Marketplace. August was a strong month for us red meat exports. According to data from the us meat export federation. Volume for beef and pork was the largest in nearly two years. Beef exports were up 27 percent from a year ago at one hundred seven thousand metric tons. Pork exports are up 16 percent from a year ago to a hundred 86 thousand metric tons. The largest volume ever. And value was up 19 percent.
