Police say 45yearold Reginald Douglas fired shots friday night on University Avenue near Drake University. No one was injured but University Avenue was shut down for a short time. From the white house, to capitol hill, to the campaign trail, the death of Justice Antonin Scalia is setting off debate over who should nominate the replacement. Aixa president obama says he will nominate Justice Scalias successor in due time, but getting that person confirmed after Antonin Scalias sudden death, president obama expressed his condolences and called the 79yearold a brilliant and energetic justice. The president also announced his intention of choosing a Supreme Court justice nominee. Pres. Obama there will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. Aixa but republican majority leader Mitch Mcconnell, who sets the senates schedule, says, the American People should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court justice, and the vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president. Candidates weighed in on the president s expected nomination during the cbs news debate on saturday night. Mr. Trump i think its up to Mitch Mcconnell and everybody else to stop it, its called delay, delay, delay. Mr. Kasich i think we should let the next president decide who is going to run that Supreme Court. Dr. Carson we should be thinking about how we can create some healing in this land. Mr. Rubio we need to put people on the bench that understand that the constitution is not a living and breathing document, it is to be interpreted as mr. Bush the next president needs to appoint someone with a proven conservative record similar to Justice Scalia. Mr. Cruz the senate needs to stand strong and say were not going to give up the u. S. Supreme court for a generation. Aixa Hillary Clinton says its outrageous republicans have already pledged to block whomever the president nominates. Bernie sanders, who serves in the senate, says, lets get on with it and vote on a nominee. In washington, im aixa diaz. Alyx bringing the conversation home drake law professors are , reacting to scalias death. Former drake law dean, david walker met with him twice. Scalia visited the campus two times, once in the 1990s and in 2002. Scalia met with students and gave a lecture on constitutional law. Walker says he remembers scalia being very gracious with the law students. He was very giving of his time and was able to laugh at himself, didnt shrink from the kind of expression youd see in his opinions. Alyx scalia is one of 11 visited the school. President in making an appointment to the high court. Iowa senator Chuck Grassley is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee. Grassley said, the fact of the matter is that its been Standard Practice over the last 80 years to not confirm Supreme Court nominees during a president ial election year. It only makes sense that we defer to the American People, who will elect a new president to select the next Supreme Court justice. Scalia was the longestserving justice on the current court. He was appointed in 1986. Now to an update on the breaking news we brought you first on kcci, the Ongoing Investigation into a deadly officerinvolved shooting is happening in urbandale. Just after 4 00 saturday morning, officers responded to a drug complaint at the holiday inn on merle hay road. A scuffle began with one of the suspects, who then fired a gun. Officers then fired and killed the man. Two female suspects ran away but officials are not saying how many officers were involved in the shooting. They ended up in a struggle with one of the suspects, who ended up pulling a gun. One shot was fired by him and our officers returned fire. Alyx no names have been released in this investigation as it is ongoing. And police say 45yearold Reginald Douglas fired gun shots into the sky friday night. It happened outside platinum kutz on University Avenue near Drake University. The good news no one was injured , but University Avenue was shut down for a short time. On the edge of Canadas Arctic along the western shore of hudson bay, its easy to the earth. It can feel like youre utterly alone up here but then, out in all that white, a pair of sleepy, dark eyes slowly open, revealing what we came all this way to see. And apparently, the Worlds Largest land predator, came to see us too. I mean for me, this is mind blowing. But how rare is this to see here . Well, its pretty common to see polar bears out here this time of year. But its not as common to see a big old male like that just come and lay down next to the buggy. Its unreal. It is a pretty impressive site. The buggy is a tundra buggy. Its sort of a cross between a tour bus and a monster truck. After Antonin Scalias sudden death, president obama expressed his condolences and called the 79yearold a brilliant and energetic justice. Obama there will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. Mr. Kasich i think we should let the next president decide who is going to run that Supreme Court. Dr. Carson we should be thinking about how we can create some healing in this land. Mr. Rubio we need to put people on the bench that understand that the constitution is not a it is to be interpreted as originally meant. Mr. Bush the next president needs to appoint someone with a proven conservative record similar to Justice Scalia. Mr. Cruz the senate needs to stand strong and say were not going to give up the u. S. He did not shrink from the kind of expression you see in his opinions. Supreme Court Justices who have visited the school. One iowa senator is making a point to caution the president on making an appointment to the high court. Iowa senator Chuck Grassley is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee. Grassley said, the fact of the matter is that its been Standard Practice over the last 80 years to not confirm Supreme Court nominees during a president ial election year. It only makes sense that we defer to the American People, who will elect a new president to select the next Supreme Court justice. Scalia was the longestserving justice on the current court. He was appointed in 1986. Now to that breaking news we brought you first saturday morning on kcci, the Ongoing Investigation into a deadly officerinvolved shooting in urbandale. Just after 4 00 saturday morning, officers responded to a drug complaint at the holiday inn on merle hay road. A scuffle began with one of the suspects, who then fired a gun. Officers then fired and killed two female suspects ran away but are now in custody. Officials are not saying how many officers are involved in the shooting. They ended up in a struggle with one of the subjects who , ended up pulling a gun. One shot was fired by him and our officers returned fire. Alyx the names have not been released in this case and it is an Ongoing Investigation. And police say 45yearold Reginald Douglas fired gun shots into the out friday night. It happened outside platinum kutz on University Avenue near Drake University. No one was injured but University Avenue was shut down for a short time. Douglas is now facing two weapons charges and a drug charge. Time now, 7 07. We will check back in with that snowy forecast.
