The leader of the democratic ticket is here in the first place, hoping to stop minnesota from trending towards a trump, as some recent Election Results and poles have been improving. He is also here to tell minnesota voters they can go vote for him starting today. Last night, biden went so far is to blame trump for every single american covid death, but the very normally cautious biden was not wearing a mask. Very few of them were Wearing Masks either, and social distancing was not observed, as seen and heard here. When i got back to the room this location where biden is today is about two and a half hours from minneapolis, which was of course ravaged by riots in destructive looting after george floyd died in police custody, and is about two and a half hours and the other direction from where President Trump is going to sleep later on this evening. What the president is talking about there is a bill that president clinton signed back in 1996 that would remove a section of the tax code which gave favorable tax breaks to u. S. The president also going off again on unsolicited mail and voting. Not applications for absentee aboubalance, but this mass mailg of ballots to people who are on registered voter rolls. This is going to be the scam of all time, and hopefully the federal judges, all respected, all highly respected, hopefully they will be able to see this clearly and stop it. What the president was talking about there is legal challenges that are being launched in states that are sending out these unsolicited ballots, and a lot of them already going out, so we will see what the court action brings, but the president may be on the losing side of this. From the washington examiner, jan, its no big surprise that minnesota is firm ground here. Republicans think they have a shot at it. It was close four years ago. A little bit wider, depending on the poll right now. Are democrats worried about hanging onto minnesota . They shouldnt be. The people of minnesota know what the rest of the country does. Under trump, the country is more divided than it has ever been, and particularly in minneapolis, weve seen that unfold on its streets. Theres more division, and theres more chaos, more angst and tension. I think specifically speaking to the women of minnesota, they are probably reconsidering some of their behaviors that they held so closely to in the voting booths in previous elections, and they are likely starting to break rank with what i call legacy or inherited both and are reconsidering what it is that they want for this country, moving forward. Neil all right, ill put you down as i may be then, on the president. How do we get to this notion that the pending on minnesota may or may not be in play, how much does this talk of a vaccine influence this race . Not in minnesota, but joe biden was criticizing the president of our seemingly trying to speed a vaccine for political purposes. The president making the point that there is Due Diligence here. Medical expertise. It is not going to be secondguessed by political pressures or matters, but you make sure that the president now outlining the possibility of having a vaccine in everyones hands and available to all americans by april of next year. Your thoughts on that . Well, i think it would show that President Trump did a very good job in getting a vaccine out in record time, and its the fda, so President Trump cant do anything about the speed of it, other than to put as much money behind it and as much force behind it as he can, which is what hes done, but he can control the data, so if we get a vaccine here in october, which is he is thinking we may get, i think thats going to be a key thing for voters. President trump did a decent job with the virus. Yes, we had people that lost their lives, but that was out of his control. That was china. He blunts the flights coming in from china as early as anyone could, and is not his fault that there were people that died, so hes turning the corner on that. But as far as minnesota goes, i find it very interesting that we are talking about minnesota 46 days out. We would have never thought about that in the past with the republicans. The Republican Party under trump has really become the party of bluecollar workers. Thats who they look to now, and thats why you are seeing a swing in these states. Look at what joe biden did. In december of last year, he told minors they need to learn to code. Thats how theyre going to change their lives. They can mine anymore. What is he going to say to bloggers and miners and minnesota . Neil i do want to go to joe biden and as i can, but i want to give you an opportunity, looking at this, how much this vaccine thats virus issue will dominate this entire race. Sure. I think thats a vaccine debate is going to really take center hold in this election, especially in october. I know that President Trump would love to see an announcement of a vaccine before the election. That is something that joe biden is preemptively expecting, which is why he has called on some transparency measures. He has been skeptical about whether a vaccine that trump announces will follow all of the scientific, necessary thresholds in order for it to be safe, so i think that because joe biden is already expecting this, trump it might run the risk of the vaccine being so politicized, that it might work against him if he rushes it, but on the other hand, i know that a lot of americans really like to see the vaccine come out, and joe biden runs the risk of looking antivaccine, which could look bad in the minds of voters as well. Spew one before that, a little bit here, im sure this was not the former Vice President s intention, but by raising doubts about an early vaccine, couldnt he harm himself and those who are now leery of taking a vaccine if it were to come out early, and it would boomerang on him. It would look like he was so skeptical about it, that even though he says he believes science, the doctors, he doesnt trust the president , vaccine, if it were to come out this year, he looked antivaccine, wouldnt he . Sure. He has laid out a criteria of what he is looking for with a vaccine, so he is trying to keep it focused on science, but yes, it is a question that he has faced multiple times already from the press, saying are you worried about this . Because the risk risky as it is people take the vaccine, then its not going to be effective in the wider community. So there is the risk for him there. He is saying if it comes out that it passes all his criteria and it safe, that he would take it the next day, but thats going to be a very careful line, specially send some polls have shown that both republicans and democrats, fewer of them would take a vaccine now then a couple months ago, the last time the question was asked, i believe, which is a disturbing trend. Perhaps a sign of the vaccine issue becoming so politicized, which is endangering Public Safety and health as a whole. Neil you know, jenna, when you look at expectations of the debate coming up, a lot of people have been advising the president to go slow or at least ease up on the attacks about joe biden, that hes out of it, that hes old mr. Magoo. Sometimes i think that he just has to show up and not slobber on himself, and he is won. Is there a sense here that expectations have turned so low for joe biden as a result of these attacks, that he wins by surviving . Im not sure that i would say that he wins by surviving. Theres definitely some people in the middle clearly the country is very polarized right now. I dont believe theres a tremendous amount of swing voters, but i think that there are some people stuck in the middle who are particularly ambivalent about the whole political process and are unclear whether or not they are going to show about the voting booth in general. I think they are just looking for somebody to raise their hand and saying im going to surround myself with a really smart people and work to bring this country back. He could ultimately push them to the left, but i dont know if it is just about whether or not he can show up and form a sentence. I think, rightfully so, the g. O. P. Strategists are encouraging trump to stop attacking people because its just not a nice thing to do. Neil well, it is possible. I want to thank you very, very much. They are taking a backseat to these little guys who started and got a lot richer. Just so you know, and ive been keeping tabs on it, but about 165 days of added market value. This week. In terms of what Speaker Pelosi and senator schumer care about, i am convinced about the priority number one, number two, number three is bailing out new york and california. I dont want to do anything to hurt state governments or our cities. I think the priorities of most republicans, people in small business. And if the president agrees to a plan, led by the bailout of new york and california, thats the president s decision. But its going to split the republicans and the senate. It was great to see some of the practical handson experience that apprentices here receive, and while, as i said, erni itst quieter here than usual because of the covid19 restrictions, but the pride of these workers who are learning the skills and will carry them throughout their careers, is still unmistakable. My father, and i apologize for repeating this, but it warrants saying every time. My dad use to have an expression. He said a job is about a lot more than a paycheck. Its about your dignity. Its about respect. It is about your place in the community. Its about being able to look your kid in the eye and say honey, its going to be okay, and mean it. Thats a lesson ive never forgotten. Its the way i grew up, surrounded by hardworking families in scranton, pennsylvania. A lot of steelworkers in delaware. All those jobs are gone now. You know, and thats what i saw here at this training center. Dedicated women and men investing in their dignity. There dignity. Here in the iron range, we can see the resilience in the group of communities that built america. Fortified by the strength of union power, worker power, i think i was saying to you that you now, my dad had another expression. The only way to deal with an abuse of power is with power. Union power. Keep the barbarians of the other side of the gate, making sure that people can make a decent living. Here, like anywhere else, times are hard. Unemployment is way up due to the pandemic. Fewer workers can be on the job at one time in order to abide by social distancing rules. The Economic Outlook for next year including the building trades, more uncertain than it need to be. Here in minnesota and all across the country, there are plenty of folks who are hurting. Theyre worried about making their next mortgage payment, keeping their rent payments in check. They see the people at the top doing very well. Incredible numbers. Billionaires in america during this pandemic have made nearly 300 billion. Did you hear what i just said . In the middle of the pandemic. You are left to wonder is the consequence for ordinary folks, whos looking out for me . You know, thats been the entire story of Donald Trumps presidency. Now in the midst of this unprecedented national crisis, trump has given up on even pretending to do his job. Almost 200,000 lives lost, in the last six months, and experts tyler glasnow, the same studies that we have relied on, that the administration has relied on to know whats coming next, that we are going to lose another 215,000 lives between now and january 1st. The United States has lost another 36,000 new covid cases per day. Per day. Averaging 1,000 deaths a day. Just across the border, a stones throw into canada, one day earlier this month, the United States had 1,000 deaths from covid. Canada have zero. Just two days ago. Three days ago, i believe it w was. 1,200 deaths. Canada had nine. Nine. So many lives lost unnecessarily because the president is only worried about the stock market and his reelection. Refusing to do what you are doing right here in this program. Social distancing, wear a mask, santas protect your apprentices. Hes not protecting its estimated by the scientist that if we just wore masks national nationally, we would say 100,000 lives between now and january 1. Let me say that again. If we just wore masks national nationally, wed save 100,000 lives between now and january according to the same study. You know, it was estimated by a great medical school, columbia medical school, that if the president had just started one week earlier than he did, we would have 36,000 more people sitting at the dinner table tonight, being able to put your arm around grandpa or grandma tonight. And again, in his own words, recorded by bob woodward, the president knew back in february that this was an extremely dangerous communicable disease. Think about it. How many people how many empty chairs around those dinner tables because of his negligence and selfishness . How many lies sad and lives lo lost . Imagine if in the state of the union, he spoke up and said weve got a problem. We can handle it. Heres what weve got to do. I cant think of any president whos ever acted, in my view, so selfishly. About his own reelection. Instead of a sworn obligation to protect you, defend the American People. As i said last night in my hometown, this campaign is between scranton and park aven park avenue. All trump sees from park avenue is wall street. Thats why the only metric of the american prosperity for him is the value of the dow jones. Like a lot of you, i spent a lot of my life with guys like donald trump looking down on me, looking down on people who make a living with their hands. The people who take care of our kids, clean our streets. Maybe what bothers me most is when he talks about too many sources confirmed by many outlets, when hes talking about the men and women who joined the military and gave full measure for their country, suckers. The losers. Unless you think its made up. Remember how he talked about john mccain. Political opponents but a close friend. I did his eulogy. John mccain was no sucker. Poor loser. He was a hero. My son, who spent a year in iraq, he wasnt a loser or a sucker. He was a proud patriot. These are the guys who always thought they were better than me. Its better than us. Because they had a lot of money. Guys who inherit everything theyve got and still managed to squander it. I have to admit, which i guess is coming out pretty obviously, in regards to trump, i just have a little bit of a chip on my shoulder about these guys. Recently, and i probably shouldnt have said it last night, but i did. Recently, i read some stories and was asked questions by a columnist who went like this. You know, if you get elected, you are going to be the first guy and a long time elected president without an ivy league degree. Like somehow a kid who went to was State University who qualified to be president of the United States doesnt have an ivy league degree. Let me tell you something. I know how to do the job of being president. Its pretty clear. No matter how wealthy donald trump is pure no matter how much he doctors his tax returns, he doesnt have a clue how to be president. One of the lessons my mother taught me, not a joke, a long time ago, taught me and my siblings, one that you probably were taught too out here in minnesota. She said joey, remember, nobody is better than you. But everybody is your equal. Nobody is better than you, but everybody is your equal. We dont measure people by the size of their bank account. I dont respect people based on how big the house they live in is. I dont look down my nose at people who are busting their necks just to make a living. Or any of you. Trump says, by the way, paraphrasing, everyone is in the stock market. Thats why he cares about the stock market. What the hell is he talking about . The people i grew up with an scranton dont have money in stocks. Every money we made was to pay the bills and take care of the family. Put clothes on our back and a roof over our head. In the market thats why i have a different measure by which i judge a healthy american economy. My measure is scranton, duluth, places where i grew up. So many people that i know grew up. I see hardworking women and men who were just trying to earn an honest, decent living, take care of their families. Just have a little bit of confidence, a little bit of confidence. You can just see around the corner. You dont have to live literally from paycheck to paycheck. Most do. Hoping for a little bit of spa space. Now, the American People have seen these women and men, the essential workers, workers who stock the shelves in this crisis of the grocery store. The drivers who drive the trucks to deliver the food. Farmworkers pure nurses who risked their lives and in many cases gave their lives and this pandemic to save other people. Essential workers. And when they walked down the streets and people come out and clap their hands and put pots together. Tell them how much they are appreciated, thats not enough. They are not asking for anything. Theyre just asking for a shot. The American People have never, ever, ever let their country down, so its about time you start to pay essential workers from the fact that they are essential. The blinders have been taken off of the American People. I think they are ready. They are ready to insist that minimum wage be 15 an hour. They are ready to insist that people have child care and access to it. They are ready to admit and understand the needs that average americans have. Thats why am i plan, in fact, my entire campaign, built upon this concept. Its time to reward hardworking americans, not wealth. Reward work, not wealth. You dont have to penalize wealth. Its the opposite now. Reward wealth and not work. We have to rebuild an economy in the wake of covid19, and as we do, we have an Incredible Opportunity to make a long make longoverdue investments for working families. Make sure that the wealthy, the very wealthy, big corporations finally began to pay their fair share. Not looking to punish everybody. Just pay your fair share. Its time we give hardworking families something for their hard work and their sweat. The united brotherhood of carpenters, give them a leg up for once. I have a big, ambitious plan that thats on the american worker. It is going to create millions of good paying jobs creating the products and technologies that we need now and in the future. It starts with a pretty basic idea. When the government spends taxpayers money, we should spend that money to buy American Products made by American Workers and american supply chains to generate american growth. And opportunity. My plan would tighten the rules to make it a reality. During my first term alone, we will invest 400 billion of federal money. To invest and purchase products and materials our country needs to modernize infrastructure. To replenish critical stockpil stockpiles. To enhance our national security. Just going through the Apprentice Program of one of your carpenters, showing me how to read blueprints. And im a frustrated architect. My kids, years ago, bought me a light board. I have no professional training, but i like and i carry around graph paper. Always making up and designing homes and landscapes. Its my way out. Some people can paint. I cant. Showing me the blueprints and how they can change several walls of a particular building to conserve and save energy. And he pointed out what you have to learn to be able to read a blueprint. And i pointed out to him that my plan, he said by the way, not me, this carpenter said and by the way, we can kill two birds with one stone. He didnt use that phrase. You can do two things at once. He said we can improve the environment by using less energy to operate this building and create more jobs. And i said im going to send you a copy of my plan. My Senate Colleagues know it. Exactly what it is. By american, build american plan. It calls for literally what we started in our administration but couldnt finish, retrofitting 4 million buildings in america that are leaking millions of gallons of energy now. In the process, creating the 4 million jobs for skilled labor, replacing windows, insulation that works. Making sure that the unit is tight, including retrofitting 2 million homes. All of it, done with the prevailing wage and union labor. Creating hundreds of thousands of Union Certified jobs. Thats not hyperbole. Thats a fact. Thats how it will happen. Saving millions and barrels of oils in the process. Improving our environment. Thats why a lot of other Union Support what we are doing. 500,000 charging stations along our highways. Why . So we can own it own, own the electric car market. Creating 1 million new jobs in michigan, detroit, the automobile industry. Look. We can outcompete anybody if we set our mind to it. You know, my infrastructure plan is going to revitalize american infrastructure so that future is made in america. The president keeps talking about hes going to invest in infrastructure, right . How many times has he said there is a plan, infrastructure plan. His coming. Then he had wanted 18. Then he had one in 19. Then he has 14 20, just like his nonexistent Health Care Plan that is coming out next week. He has no plan. When i got started, this wasnt to deal with infrastructure. Republicans wanted to build a solid infrastructure to make us first in the world. Now we ranked 28th. Just like democrats did. Totally nonpartisan. Creating thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of good paying jobs. Were going to invest 2 trillion to build resilient infrastructure. Roads, bridges, ports. Rage here, along with these lakes. 1. 5 million new Affordable Housing units. Highspeed broadband for every american household. More important than ever as we are educating our children from home because he has no plan how to open our schools. 100 billion to rebuild crumbling schools. How many schools in america do you think there are where kids safely drink the water from the water fountain . Where they are worried about whether or not there is enough ventilation in the school. Whether there is leaking energy or still has Hazardous Materials in the walls. Its ridiculous. We should be spending the money to improve those schools for the safety of our children and our teachers. As i said, retrofitting 4 million buildings. 2 million homes. The way we do that is with tax credits. Again, all done by certified union labor. I will fight for workers and all projects, one prevailing wage, prioritize project labor agreements. So, collective bargaining is in place before the project starts. Employ workers from registered apprenticeships. I want to water them down like trump tried to do. Past the proactive. Trying to block or break unions. I will do it without raising anyones taxes. If you make less than 400,000 a year. I give you my word. You have nothing to worry about if you make less than 400. If you make more, if you make more, you are going to start to pay your fair share. No one who makes less than 400 will pay a single penny more in taxes under our administration. In fact, tens of millions of middleclass families are going to get tax cuts when they need it most. While you are raising your family, trying to get Affordable Health care, buying your first home. Almost directly after President Trump passed his tax bill in 2017, almost 2 trillion increase the deficit. He went down to maralago. He went down to his guest. This is a quote. You just got a lot richer. End of quote. He was right. They got a hell of a lot richer. How about the person making 50, 60, you are a family making 120,000 a year. How much did you get . How much richer . How much richer . It may be the only time hes told the plain truth in his entire presidency. 2018, the year after that tax got passed, 91 corporations of the fortune 500 paid no income tax. Zero tax. Zero. Making billions of dollars. Zero tax. I guess you guys too, right . Going to lower the cost of prescription drugs. But guess what . Instead, big farm i got of dollars in tax cuts, send their manufacturing of those drugs overseas, and unconscionably raised it to be cheaper for them to produce. Raise the price for ordinary americans. How many of you people knew your mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, friends, had to choose between getting a prescription not a joke. And putting dinner on the table . And now, he says he is going to cut drug prices. [laughs] like hes going to have a health care. All hes done, and theres this big thing about hes calling for drug pricing cut. All hes done, he sent to the hhs, health and human services, is studying the issue. I have a clear plan. I guarantee i will lower prices in america by allowing medicare to negotiate drug prices, which he said he would do. The house and senate were ready to do it, he said he would veto it if he got it. If you want to participate in the medicare program, you got to negotiate with medicare. For the price of that drug appeared significantly lower prices. And for any new specialty drugs that dont have competition, im setting up a review board to recommend a reasonable price based on the evaluation. The price will not be able to be increased beyond the cost of medical inflation unless they can prove theyve gone and done some more research and change the nature of the drug. And now, astonishingly, when my staff told me this, i know both those senators when they told me this, i said he cant to be proposing this. He now is proposing in this budget another multibilliondollar tax cut for the very wealthy millionaires and billionaires. Heres what he wants to do. He wants to lower the Capital Gains tax down to 15 . 15 . Everyone of you, including the reporters in this room, unless you make a lot more than i think you are, everyone of of you is going to be paying at a higher tax rates than someone making a billion bucks off of their investment. You are going to pay a higher tax rate. Because they make their money by investing, not by the sweat of their brow. Another tax cut with billions of dollars. And who whose hide do you think that is going to come out of . Or does it come from . The deficit is already bonkers. Where do you think it is going to come out . Its going to come out of you. The programs and the things that help the American People. Like i said, its about time we start rewarding work. Not wealth. Im not looking to punish anybody, but its about time the super wealthy and Corporate America start paying their fair share. Thats all. Pay their fair share. Hes in the supreme court, saying got rid of preexisting conditions. Should not should be able to stand in the way of getting insurance because it helps insurance companies. As a gimmick, he got a new one. Hes going to end of the payroll tax that you pay in Social Security. Yet, the actuary at the Social Security says if that were to occur, Social Security will be bankrupt by the middle of 2023. You may get a few more bucks in your paycheck, then go home and tell your mom and dad Social Security is about to come to an end. Never liked Social Security and medicare to begin with. So, look. Cant let this happen. Social security will run dry by 2023. We are so much better than this. This is the United States of america. We have never, ever, ever not been able to do something when we have done it together. Never. So its time to stand up. Democrats and republicans. You will have very little crime in new york. Very little crime in chicago, but these liberal politicians, democrats, they wont let the police do their job. Vaccines are coming, but even before, if you look at florida, look at taxes, look at arizona, some places are clearing up a little bit. We are doing really well. They are all doing very well. It should have never been allowed to come out, both the projections would be, if we did a really good job with the shutdown, which we did, it would be 240, up to 250,000 people. Youve seen those numbers. So have i. If we didnt do our job, it would be three and a half, two and a half, maybe 3 Million People. 3 Million People. We have done a phenomenal job with respect to covid19. We have done a job that was incredible. Seeing the other side of a pure look at biden. Look at joe biden. He had a thing called swine flu. It was a disaster. Much easier to handle. Much less severe, but it was a disaster. His own man in charge of it said it was a nightmare. It was a disaster. They didnt know what they were doing. Joe biden doesnt have a clue. All he does is criticize. Weve done an incredible job. Whether it is the vaccines which are calming, the therapeutics which are already here. They started working out incredibly well. Look at what happens . They do end up in serious condition. Look at how much better theyre doing now because of what weve done therapeutically. Its amazing. The numbers are amazing. Weve done a great job, but then you have to take a look at swine flu. H1n1, okay, which biden calls n1h1, because he doesnt know the name. At the ag h comes before the n. Not hard to remember. They said it was a total disaster. They got very, very poor marks. We have done an incredible job. Throughout the world, i got called by prime ministers and president sangster, the job youve done is amazing. On testing, on testing, i give you a whole list. April, spring of 2021, thats what ive been seeing for a while now. That is a realistic time to see generalized availability for the vaccine. Maybe it will be a little bit later or earlier. But the bottom line is they are doing it as fast and safely as possible. Operation work speed has made the paralleling of the manufacturing, as soon as i get the fda approval, they will be shipping out 100 million vaccines. That is incredible. Neil now, joe biden raised some doubts about the speedy arrival of a vaccine. Do you think he put the fear of god into folks who might not take it if it is out in the fa fall . Listen. This conversation is extremely dangerous. We have to trust the process. We know that the drugmakers have already vowed they will not put forth a vaccine until it undergoes the proper fda proce process. These drugmakers have a lot to lose. They have a lot riding on this. They plan to be around far beyond trump presidency. They are not going to put their reputation on the line just because of a rush trial. We are in the middle of a pandemic. It is not unheard of to use emergency authorization to get a vaccine to people. It happened with ebola. I dont remember the uproar. If you have a vaccine that is demonstrating that its working on that it is safe, it is not so uncommon where it could be used to curb a pandemic that has killed nearly a Million People globally.
