Famously, forrest gump, the ultimate in successful stupid man. Are you stupid . I dont think so, no. What did you mean by too stupid to understand the difference . I didnt mean anything by it. You said it, you had to have meant it. I was once again trying to be glib. The socalled glibness thats been mentioned today has direct consequences for real American People. So get over your damned foolishness. Im not a politician, nor a political advisor and i was not the architect of president obamas health care plan. Im an economist who ran a complex microsimulation model to help republicans and democratic politicians and their advisors understand the impact that their policies would have on the health care system. Thats quite a different account of his involvement than the one he gave at his lecture at mit a few years ago. This bill tries torques and let me full disclaimer, i helped write it. How does gruber explain claims like that . You have said in 2012 claims that you wrote obama care yourself, what parts did you write yourself . If i said that, that was once again an effort to seem more important than i was. Do you think this guys getting a lot of dates. Thank you. I just want to cut to the chase, this is a guy who was very, he was swashbuckling in front of his students and he thought he was so cool and then he gets in front of congress. So was he telling the truth before or after he got sworn in. I think he does im sorry good. He seemed like he was sorry. I believe that he is. Not just sorry that he got caught, but i think he understands that those are very irresponsible, very rude, mean spirited comments he made about the American People. The rest of it, he knows what he was doing, he was part of this whole thing, the art of perpetuating a fraud on the American People. Claiming one thing when he knew it was going to do just the other. Thats the problem with it. Is that going to be something that ultimately is for the is Supreme Court to ultimately it will be the tax issue that will take us down. I know that you watched the whole thing, you were glued. I wanted to see it. I was anxiously awaiting it and once i got to watching it, i realized, they shouldnt have done it. They shouldnt have called him. He was such a villain before, all the discrepancies between what he said then and what we know now and what he did was he apologized i saw probably 45 minutes of it. The only real substance that i saw come out of that is when jim jordan asked how much he got paid, and he wouldnt answer. Then he consulted with his lawyer to find out if he could say how much he was paid. He got paid a lot of money, 400,000, some say up to 2. 5 million. They had the ball, gruber and obama care and i think they gave it up. Do you think gruber did a great job today . He did a great job of im not doing a very great thing. I think the apology is well done, but as kimberly pointed out, this is got some Supreme Court implications coming up. How much this guy has said and how much controversy this has raised as a result of that may or may not impact that court. But i dont think one hearing is going to undo the problems he created for himself. The democrats were mad, but they were mad for another reason. One of the reasons they were mad is because it caused a pr problem for the democrats. Thats another reason why they should never have these congressional hearings, because it gives a chance for, in this case, the democrats to get up and pretend theyre angry too. Everyone involved in obama care thinks the American People are stupid. Thats what it is. And everyone knows that this is this is the first step in single payer. Obama said it himself, we have video of obama before he ever ran for president saying, this is the beginning, this is how we get to single payer. Thats bobs happy ending. Of many happy ending s in my life, that would be among my top three or four. Gruber thinks the same thing, thats why they shouldnt have a hearing and question this guy. They should just keep showing the videos. I think obama care is doing terrifically well. Im glad you gave us a transition, because i wanted to ask eric about this, what do you think to the Overall Economic costs obama care has been on the economy, when you look at some of the good jobs numbers from last month, but has it had the weight that the wait until the employer mandate gets in at the end of 2015, well see how Many Companies do cut employees because they dont want to pick up the tab on obama care or they cut the hours, thats where it really starts to filter in. The initial cost estimate was unaffecting the debt. Remember . It will not affect the debt, not one single dime. Then it became 500 billion and then it became a trillion. I have no idea how much its going to cost. But every week, there are companies saying wi ing were g limit the number of employees. Kimberly, later tonight, youre going to be on oreilly and one of your discussions are going to be what is going to be the cost, the premiums and the deductibles. Your premium has gone up for sure, but the deductibles have. Deductibles have gone up quite a bit, and in addition, we were all sold this, not just the ones that were uninsured that were going to get the obama care, but the people who have employer backed deductibles theirs have gone up as well. In fact thats not the reality of what has transpired. And yet theres more to come, as eric points out of course when the employer mandate kicks in in 2015. Then youre going to see some hard numbers. The premiums have gone up less than they would have with obama care. How do you know that . Because the average increase of premiums prior of 3 . The premiums are going up, just slowly. The fear factor that you gu s s sent out that it was going to go up 15 to 340 . You were covered by fox, therefor your deductibles are going to go up 3 . And have in fact. For people who didnt have insurance, its actually quite higher. That was the whole design, was get the benefit in, show people that we have the benefits then youre going to pay for it later. It takes ten years to implement the whole thing, right . This is the Columbia Record and tape club. My dad never let me joined that. I really wanted to join that. I thought it was such a good deal. Your dad knew that that bill was going to come later. Same with single payer. This is a performer, because u you do a lot of standup comedy and things. Gruber has to perform in front of his students. Do you think hes embarrassed at all going back to the class room after being so arrogant about how stupid American People were. He was arrogant in front of his students, but in front of congress, he ate humble pie. Anyone who sits in front of those hearings, looks like the victims. And the villains are all those people yelling at them from on high. He refutued the thing that w had him dead to the wall on tape, that he was the ark teblgt of obama care. Now theyre going to pick this out and say hes not you know what is the architect of . Hes the architect of calling it a mandate. They couldnt get obama care paid for unless they mandated obama care, hes the one that came up with that idea. Thats the worst part of it. Thats the part they should have pounded today on capitol hill, were you the one who came up what the mandate on obama care . The other thing is, ill belt you going back to his class rooms, i bet you the lines to get into his classroom next year are long. All right, on the same day as grubers testimony, Senate Democrats released a report on the cias controversial interrogation techniques with the blessing of the white house, while admitting its going to pose a danger to americans overseas. Next on the fiviviviviviv today Senate Democrats released a controversial report on enhanced cia interrogations that even the white house admits could put americans overseas in danger and tell Dianne Feinstein defended the timing of the reports release. Our commitment to a just society governed by law, and the willingness to face an ugly truth and say never again. There may never be the riling time to release this report. The instability we see today will not be resolved in months or years. But this report is too important to shelve in definitely. Former Vice President dick cheney vehemently disagrees, he says what i keep hearing is that they portray this has a rogue operation. The program was authorized and as far as im concerned they ought to be decorated not criticized. It was to the right thing to do and if i had to do out over again, i would do it. As for the timing of this report, colonel ralph peters says that helps no one but our enemies. Doing it at this time, shaun, amounts to nothing less than providing aid and comfort to the enemy. There is no practical value, prablg kl utility, practical advantage p gained by releasing this report trm only p people that gained is the terrorists that can you rev up the Propaganda Machine again. I heard all the run down, i heard at 3 00, all about what they used to enhance, interrogate. I heard all about the techniques they used, the enhanced interrogations, i heard too much of it to be honest with you. Heres what we know. The cia briefed congress 30 times the briefings were in september of 2006, the administration decided to brief full committee and staff district t directors, there was no consensus which means proceed. Hell be grilled by us. Im sure well be proper wi him, but im sure it will be very, very tough on him. That aside, now, what happened . So the cia interrogated abu zabeda who led us to clekhalid Sheikh Mohammed who called people in the dark zone and said be careful who you talk to and what you say. That turns to al kuwaiti. If president wants to take a victory lap for getti ting bin laden, it all came from enhanced interrogation by the cia. Thats what led to abbadabad. George bush did not hear about these actions until 2006 rp, when he did, his reaction was fairly negative about it. They did not follow the guidelines of their own Justice Department. If we do this sort of thing and if we stand for anything in this world, we stand for even george bush did not know what was going on and i think he did not like u it. And dick cheney would do what is lawfully approved, which this was and there were plenty of investigations and no criminal charges filed. He would do what it takes to protebpr protect this country. Because all of us around this table are not having to because of these torture techniques, you think thats the reason . And theres absolutely no proof that this one led to it certainly played in. Theres certain suppositions, the fbi doesnt agree with that. I think this report has to be taken with a huge grain of salt. They did not talk to nibble i am not willing to say that this report is actually the endall, be all, the comprehensive report theyre trying to make it out to be. I would point people to a report, a 39page document. It is thorough and thought out by a guy named jason behl. Thats a pseudonym that he uses, he was an interrogator. If you go to the weekly insider website. Steven hayes, that walksing you through from an interrogator stand point. And if you care about this issue at all and you want to believe the Senate Democrats, i think youre under the obligation to read somebody like john behls work. I did today and i was swayed by it. Imagine if the democrats were so disturbed by law breaking behavior, by Government Employees at a place like, say, the irs. Imagine the things we might be able to find out that happens to americans, not to terrorists. What is more infuriating, the attacks brought to us over and over again by radicalized terrorists . Or the investigations that the cia sought to do in order to protect us. Lets listen to charles krauthammer. When you hear the president s spokesman say that they know it could endanger americans, you ask yourself why would the president insist on the release of this knowing that it could to the deaths of americans serving under him as commander in chief. Why are you releasing information if you know its going to hurt americans . Why do we have notes at all . Why are there notes from this . Why is this stuff to release . These are supposed to be black sites, i dont understand why they were writing any of this down. Because they were following the law. In the bush administration, they did try to follow the law. Remember john hugh, he went with fine toothed comb to follow all their poll cities, what good did they do . They dropped it and thall te things were aju judjudicatadjud was no legal activity taking place. Also when you look at this report, like dana mentioned, no cia personnel, any of the intergators, anyone involved with it was able to proffer any testimony, evidence for the report. So what youre getting is second hand, youre not even getting it directly from the people who actually participated in it. So i dont see how that can be a full and fair account of what actually happened. Now were putting out to our allies, who were so courageous on our behalf. But none of this has not been out already. Its not as if this is a brandnew revelation on a lot of peoples parts. Secondly, when you talk to people two have done the enhancement, talk about saudi arabia, and the basement torture chambers they have, how are you going to interrogate the saudis . What they said was that they went beyond what the Justice Department guidelines were. These were all techniques that were brief, the senate and the house were both briefed on 30 occasions, i told u you about that, they couldnt come up with a no, they dwchbt tell them stop doing it. They didnt tell them not to do it, they went forward with it. Hire are a couple of fallouts for it. For the record, i still think its okay to do Something Like this as long as its done in a fairw way, i think the enhanced interrogation techniques served their purpose, i think they made us safer. I watched my friends jump out of these buildings, i saw friends leap out of these buildings on 9 11. Isis is beheading americans. Whats worse, that or khalid Sheikh Mohammed getting some water splashed on his face or someone else getting slapped or kept awake for 100 hours. I think it sounds like a big, bad thing, i have friends who dont have a father right now because they went to work one day and expected him to come home and they didnt. Whats better, enhanced interrogation or 3,000 more americans dying at one time. I feel sorry about your friends, but that does not change the fact that the United States of america lives by rules and moralities that some dont. What line, bob, the line wasnt overstepped . They were made aware of it in 2002, 03, 04 and 05. There was no criminal prosecution from this, do you understand that . Now after years looking back saying we dont like what you did. Why didnt you object then and why are you doing it now. Coming up, president obama calls the demonstrations against Law Enforcement in america nis. He also says theres proof now that black people in america arent exaggerating. The president in his own words next on the five yrksz. H blx. Through a wave of new protests across the country from berkeley all the way to brooklyn. In new york, others stage edd ae in juice the Basketball Center attended by will and kate. As long as theyre peaceful, i these theyre necessary, when they turn violent, then theyre counter productive. A countrys conscience sometimes needs to be triggered by inconvenience. The value of peaceful protest, active organizing. President o thinks the protests are necessary afbtd he also gave this swipe at Law Enforcement during his interview with bet. The fast majority of Law Enforcement officers are doing a really tough job, and most of them are doing it well. A combination of bad training in some cases, a combination of some cases that accidents that really are not trying to root out biases and in a lot of cases, subconscious fear of folks who look different, all of this contributes to a National Problem thats going to require a National Solution. So dana, i believe it was yesterday, the president said with regard to race, he said theres deep rooted racism in america, today touched by a National Problem. Is he helping or hurting the cause . I think what hes going to do is going to make it his cause. Effort you read the New York Times today, theres an article titled unrest and racism forming the president is being pushed by some of his advisors to make this next two years to really be about fixing what they see as a race problem. Maybe that was a good goal, i dont know how successful theyll be. I think the reason he did the bet interview was one, captive audience, those supporters of his are frustrated with him because they think he has not done enough. Yesterday we had the bloomberg poll that said more than 50 of americans think that the racial tension problem has been made worse by president obamas remarks. The police problem, if there is a problem and they want to prothprove that theres a problem and try to fix its. What theyre not doing is talking about the root s of the problem. Is president obama and eric holder, are they handing the Race Relations in america properly . I think theyre doing fine, let me tell you one thing, you do a poll on top of ferguson and on top of what happened on staten island, of course youre going to get that secondly, i see nothing that obama said here that you could possibly have a difference with. He said demonstrations are legitimate and they are unless they turn violent, then theyre counter product ivproductive. We all agree with that. He says theres a small number of Police Departments who were not rooting out racial ferguson alone did not have an active program to recruit Minority Police officers. Has there been any evidence in ferguson that Michael Brown died because he was black . Comments are in reaction to those two incidents. If you believe that in the Police Department every one of them are doing everything they can to enhance Race Relations, it is crazy. Theres a different premise that is at the basis of the president s kmenls and when he is suggesting very irresponsibly and eroechb youry he suggested that there are prison departments that arent doing anything about it, individual s that are beyond people just based on their race. All of this is coming in line of forget son a ferguson and the decision not to indict. There was an africanamerican sergeant in charge at the scene, female at the time of the eric garner arrest. Eric garners own family believes what we have seen now on videotape, there used to be folks that said well, maybe blacks are exaggerating, some of these situations arent what they describe. What we have now seen on television, for everybody to see, gives us an opportunity, i think, to finally have the kind of conversation thats been a long time coming. President obama injected race into garner when the family didnt even. He said that president obama said most police are doing a good job. He said theres a small number of people who have a problem. And he said, so it requires an actual solution, why . Because if its a small number, why do you need a National Solution . And this quote, its probably a fear of folks who live different. The American Police forces are the most integrated. Its just like the military, its not white cops Walking Around thinking that black people look different. Theyre the ones in the neighborhood, black people are not different. Theyre the see every day. What they need is like a wayne la pierre to stand out there and defend police. Theres no one out there. You talk to a cop on a street corner, they defend themselves pretty well. They need a guy in front of the police, likes wayne la pierre whos going to stand up for them. But like him or hate him, wayne la pierre does good work for the nra. Have we determined whether hes got a citizenship yet or not . One thing about the new york city Police Department, the majority of the new york city Police Department are people of color. They are whites are a minority in the Police Department, 52 are africanamerican, hispanic or as kran. The majority of people that the department helped in these neighborhoods are minority. The Police Department saves the lives of so many black and brown people, and they have to get that message out there, these cases are extreme outliars. On that note, we have to leave it there. Time magazine names its annual person of the year tonight and we list the finalists among them, a pop star, a president , a pope, protesters and the names we think should be on the list. Tomorrow time names the 2014 person of the year. Eight finalists were revealed ahead of the announcement. And in no particular order, they have vla vladimir putin, marsud barzani. All to the doctors and nurses and other care givers who treated the ebola patients and last but not least, the Ferguson Protesters. I think it should be one person. Dana, was your pick on this list. No, my pick was not on this list. I know that time says the person of the year is someone, not necessa necessarily because they did good things, if you could name time person of the year, think what theyre going to say in russia. My person that i would choose is ayaan hirsi ali. All of a sudden the university cancelled her speech and she was very gracious about it. She was fantastic because she would never make the list, though, would she. Kimberly . You know who i think we should honor today . How about our american troops serving abroad, our special forces units, who put so much on the line to disparage the leaders who were well informed at the time. I want to say thank you to them and thank you for putting an end to Osama Bin Laden and others. I dont want them to pick one person. I dont want them to go in and say all the soldiers. Yes, yes, but time isnt smart enough to say who is the most important person, then you would say one of the ones that kimberly or dana picked. Time went with who influenced the news the most over the course of the year, and at one point the ferguson protests were up there, which is ridiculous, because the Ferguson Protesters were actually rioting and looting. I think because im a prospeech supporter, the new york protesters have been doing it the right way, theyre not bleaking windows. Did they do it dying, did they do it from r eric, im surprised, im thinking what is he talking about . Boub, i cant even guess who youre going to say. I will make one person, president barack obama and the success of obama care, which has been dramatic this the year, the fact of the matter is that people, more people are working now than they were in the First Six Months after he took office. You said more people are working now than when he took office. Say the right stuff. I said june of today. Housing sales are up, the market prices have come down, things are going terrifically well, and he never gets enough credit particularly here. Taylor swift and shes on the list and shes fantastic. I knew you were trouble when you walked in trouble, trouble, i love her. I would go to her concerts, but i would feel a little weird. I would be going with your two daughters. Ill take her.
