Many sporting events canceled are being played and empty stadiums. The swiss government has announced a ban on all events involving more than 1,000 people. There are a few notable figures overnight which came from overnight which illustrate this dramatic rise in the last 24 or so hours. In south korea, they have 2300 confirmed cases. Thats a 32 increase on the last day. Iran, 338, 3 30 3 increase. Germany, 152 increase. Spain, sweden, seeing them similar rises. There been some questions about why the u. S. Number has remained so low in comparison to other countries. They say one of the reasons may be that they are having fewer tests done in the u. S. South korea had done 66,000 tests by the u. S. Has done in the singledigit thousands. There are calls in the u. S. For more testing kits to be available. To ramp up the process. Dana will have more on that later on this show. I want to ask about travel. What does it mean if you need to fly, if you need to go somewhere like my husband went to the u. K. A couple days ago. What does that mean for people . Airlines are in flux, making a lot of changes. The first thing you have to do is call the airline and make sure that the flight is still operating. Weve seen a number of airlines take positive moves. Weve seen jetblue and Alaska Airlines announcing they will waive change and cancellation fees for all newly booked flights because people are getting more and more worried over this virus and as it sweeps the globe. The jetblue announcement happened wednesday. Alaska airlines following suit thursday night. The feeling is that other airlines might also follow suit. Jfk wants to have more screening. If you fly into the u. S. And youve come from one of those infected areas, authorities will fly you to 1 of 11 cities in the u. S. Where there are specialized screening units. This patient does represent a turning point in this part of this virus and now the races on to figure out how and where this woman contracted the coronavirus and tracked down anyone who had contact with her before and after she got sick. Nearly two weeks ago. In the meantime, Health Officials are defending how long it took to test this woman for the virus. Many days before she was tested. She didnt travel out of the country or have contact with anyone who did. According to one Infectious Disease specialist here at uc davis, the mysterious nature of this case is significant because it means the virus could be beyond the reach of preventative measures like quarantines. On a media call this morning a top official with the cdc warned of more community spread. There certainly is the possibility of additional cases, and we will continue to work aggressively to try to keep that number low. We hope that if there is spread, the spread will be limited and that any spread, any disease in the u. S. Will be mild. There are now 61 confirmed cases here in the United States. Thats one more than yesterday. A Public Health official continues to insist the risk that to the general public is low. Dana tell me about the cdc changing guidelines for health care workers. The cdc is calling it a rapidly evolving situation and is expanding its criteria for testing, giving more medical discretion to doctors and clinicians so that if they suspect that someone may have the coronavirus they can test that person for it regardless of whether they have traveled out of the country or come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for it so long as they have flulike symptoms and no source of exposure has been identified, they cannot be tested for this covid19 and this change is a direct result of what happened with this woman who is now being tested here at the Uc Davis Medical Center. We have these numbers today about how much democrats have spent on the election, 969 million compared to republicans only had to spend 67 million. The amount of our primary. He can spend all the money in the world but i cant hide your record. Mike is a good guy and mike worked on gun issues and im proud that he did that. But mikes policies with africanamericans, throwing 5 Million People against a wall, quoteunquote, stop and frisk policy, insisting that when they passed the minimum wage in his city that they decided hes going to challenge that in cou court. These are democrat democrats. Dana a lot of that is to be expected because they are in competition but i do wonder why mayor bloomberg has continued to apologize for stop and frisk especially when you all were in the administration in new york city. The federal judge that ruled that it was unconstitutional was just blasted by the circuit courts. That was sent back to her. Mayor bloombergs term ended and then de blasio on his first day ended stop and frisk. I wonder why mayor bloomberg continues to apologize for something that at the time he said had worked to help reduce crime in new york city. Listen, most of what he said was correct. The truth is that mike, and you can look at the numbers, brought down the number of stops in new york about 90 or 95 before he left office, but youre also right mike took a number of techniques to try to address the issue of murder in new york. He reduced it by over half. He made enormous investments in new york in terms of addressing issues like Climate Change and improving the public schools. When Mike Bloomberg took office that wasnt a Single School in harlem that had a Graduation Rate above 30 and when he left there were many who graduated 100 of the kids every year. Dont you think this will be something that not just that democrats would want to attack Mike Bloomberg for but certainly President Trump who has focused on opioid addiction across the country. If he does, we would welcome it. Mike has taken on the issue of opioid abuse, the issues of Public Health, has funded governors to help with the opioid crisis. My guess is he has put in more personally than the federal government. Taking on issues of tobacco, big soda, taking on the sheets of the drug manufacturers and opioids. They all reached out to mike. Outbreak of the coronavirus and we want to find out how they are planning to take care of the people that work in the hospital as well as those being seen as patients. Edward lawrence got a look at one of those and he is looking fosters Virginia Falls church virginia. Here at the hospital, no cases in virginia but next week the head of Infectious Diseases for the system will have facetoface meetings with all the departments to make sure everyones on the same page if a possible case walks in for early detection. Speak with earlier we can isolate a patient, the less exposure there is. The point of contact with potentially infected patient could be outside the hospital if the help department alerts them to someone coming in. Anyone coming into the hospital who could be infected would end up in isolation. We have rooms which have something called negative air pressure where the we would protect the patient from everybody else in the facility. Workers dealing with the person possibly has coronavirus will first put on a specialized mask. All the employees being prefitted now just in case. For maximum protection, the hospital also mandating a robe as well as gloves meant to keep particles off the workers body and protective glasses. One of those things, when you go to the store nearby masks, doctors say that those masks probably wont stop the coronavirus. They are not airtight. Particles are small enough to get through the mask so doctors say you need to be cautious, use your wash her hands and be sensible. Dana being sensible is the order of the day. From the communication standpoint, what can you get from that data that helps you deliver messages in a better way . We know for sure through data that we have internally that people respond much more favorably to President Trump when they hear from him directly. Its not just the thousands of people inside the arena who are responding well but a Million People were watching online through our facebook app and so what goes on at rallies as we are collecting a mountain of data. We like to say that if there is a tuesday night rally, that person that tuesday night rally goer is a saturday volunteer. Its a mountain of data. We are going to states where there are democratic events the next day. We are going to be in South Carolina tonight and they have their primary tomorrow and on monday the president will have a rally in North Carolina right before super tuesday. North carolina is a super tuesday state. The president is a great showman and if theres a little bit of counter programming on democratic events we can manage, so much the better.
