Honestly different places have Different Things they are looking out as far as stats. But the president is pushing for this vaccine and therapeutics. Overall, where are we . I think we are having mixed results. Anytime you hear Something Like dr. Anthony fauci saying congressional testimony that we risk the increase of suffering and death if we dont do this cautiously and deliberately, you sit up and pay attention. He is not a lone voice among epidemiologists and public Health Officials. At the same time, i think the critics of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp were very concerned about the steps he was taking to reopen. He announced them april 20th. Georgia hadnt seen the kind of spike in cases and deaths that many of the critics have predicted. If you look at what happened the week ending may 6th, 732 deaths. If you look at the week after that, 662 deaths. This is these are not great numbers. Nobody wants to see these numbers of course but the spikes that i think many people were concerned about just havent happened. I think there are reasons to be both cautious and cautiously optimistic that some additional reopening can take place. Bret leslie, just on the political front, he also had colorado. Colorado is given her governor met with the president and they are in the process of reopening. Some counties reopening a great deal. At the same time, georgia did but not a lot of focus nationally on colorado. Right now people are very much afraid. They see numbers like we saw in texas. They had their highest number of cases that theyve had since it started. Thats a concern. You have states like new york and california where there are going to be pockets when you can reopen quicker. More dense, large metropolis areas like los angeles where i am. Every state is different. I think georgia has proven that and i think thats even more reason for us to be cautious and for those dates to look to their governors to do whats best in that situation and not go too fast and look at the numbers because we have to remember this isnt just about our freedom and getting back to work and making money and stimulate the economy. If we have a round two and if we go too fast, it will overburden the Health Care System which has been greatly overburdened thus far. Thats a major concern for the economy as well. Bret the economic numbers are staggering across the board, including consumer spending. As you look at the cases, we are testing a lot more. Different cases are going down in some states, and hospitalizations on the way down. Your thoughts about where we are. This is time for the reopening to begin. What youre seeing in new york state where they divided the state in several regions in some regions are going to begin to reopen, its a recognition that conditions are different in different places. Different in one state from the other and different inside the individual states. This is absolutely the time to begin. We have seen going back to the case of georgia, we have seen some really terrible rhetoric in the past several weeks about the possibility of opening up. The atlantic magazine said georgia was beginning an experiment in human sacrifice. That hasnt happened. Obviously it wasnt the intent. I think what youre going to see the future is nobodys opening up brooklyn in the bronx. The mayor of washington, d. C. , announced just today that the city is going to remain on lockdown until june 8th which is a long time. A lot of other places can open. When you look at the curve, it goes up quickly and is not falling as fast as i think any of us would want to see. But it is going down. Bret here are a few governors weighing in about three opening process. Were going to open half the regions in the state today. Five regions out of ten. They are the regions that meet the numerical criteria. There is no politics to the judgment. Are lakeshores will be open. We are going to move an effective monday and to what i would call a full phase one. Some of the things we could have done but didnt do initially. We are now adding and i think its appropriate given the process florida has made. Bret steve, i guess one of the Big Questions that still out there. I talked with senator mcconnell about this yesterday and others is school in the fall and where we are. When you tie where kids are and whether they are going back to school, has a direct effect with parents and child care and going to work. Yeah. I think its going to be a big question. One of the things thats emerged through the past two months is youre seeing in a sense the American People leading. One of the reasons that we havent seen the kind of calamitous results so far by these modest reopenings is because the American People remain fairly cautious about what they should be doing in this case. They seem to be listening to the folks who have said take this virus seriously. Its not just the flu. I think the prevailing of common sense that the American People are saying we are not ready to rush back out. Poll after poll after poll shows that. I think thats likely to be what happens when you look at the fall of the potential reopening of schools. Parents are not going to be eager to send their kids back to school an environment where they think either of the kids could get sick, the kind of new symptoms that you were just discussing, or could possibly be spreaders. I think as long as thats the case, parents are going to remain pretty cautious. Bret leslie, isnt there something about the bubbling up of concern a business is being closed and that that may in fact be its own Political Movement if they stay shuttered for too lo long .
