U. S. Senate. Suddenly two days later, there is now chance both could go blue. Looks almost certain florida is headed to familiar territory, a mandatory recount. With floridas hotly contested senate and governor s race is headed for an automatic recount, the Miamidade County canvassing board convene thursday afternoon to tabulate tuesdays election day numbers and count or discard provisional and late arriving mailin ballots. The votes keep coming in and republican governor rick scott lead over bill nelson continue shrinking. Scott leads by less than 18,000 votes. 22 . Democrat lawyers are descending on florida, theyve been very clear they arent here to make sure every vote is counted, tweeted florida senator marco rubio. In florida, any race with a margin of half a percent or less goes to an automatic recount. Floridas governors race is also now in recount territory. Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum has narrowed the lead over republican ron desantis 2. 47 of a percentage point, even though gillum conceded tuesday night, thats changed. He tweeted today every voice must be heard in this race. In the georgia governors race, Democrat Stacey Abrams is counting on thousands of uncounted absentee, mailin and provisional ballots to force a runoff. Its easy to vote and hard to cheat in georgia. Camp oversaw the race and today he officially resigned as the secretary of state, although its still not clear what his role was in the election tally. I dont think that race is over. Every vote must be counted. The integrity of that election is at stake. Out west, the arizona g. O. P. Swing four counties over the process they use to verify signatures on mailin ballots and those dropped off tuesday. Cindy mccain tweeted i am one of those mailin ballots. I was under the impression my vote was always counted. In the senate race, Martha Mcsally leads democrat Kyrsten Sinema by less than 20,000 vote votes. The next deadline, noon saturday. Thats when all 67 counties must submit their unofficial Election Night results to the secretary of state who said today that after tabulating the numbers in tallahassee, he fully expects to order a mandatory recount, and he advised his people the nation will be watching. Bret phil keating in Miamidade County. On the arizona race, we are awaiting at 7 00 eastern time, martha will have we think some more votes from that arizona race, some 600,000 votes been counted. The spread there for the senate race, 70,000 plus. Thats one to watch tonight. Republicans in the house were able to hold only 27 of the 41 seats vacated by retirement, resignation, or members running for higher office. 12 of those seats were lost. Two seats remain oncall tonigh tonight. A horrific story, 12 people including the first Law Enforcement officer to respond, are dead tonight and the latest mass shooting to haunt this nation. It happened at a bar in southern california. The shooter, a marine war veteran, apparently killed himself. Chief correspondent Jonathan Hunt is in Thousand Oaks tonight. What was supposed to be an evening of fun during College Night at a Country Music bar turned into buddy chaos after a man armed with a glock handgun fitted with an illegal extended magazine entered the borderline bar and grill and began shooting. Hearing gunshots and it started going crazy. People were pushing. Those inside the venue tried to escape anyway they could, some hiding in bathrooms, others breaking windows or running out any open door. I ran as fast as i could out the front door. Thank god i made it out. Police say a dozen didnt make it out alive. Among them, sergeant ron helus, a 29 year veteran of the Ventura County sheriffs department. He died a hero. He went in to save lives, to save other people. Late this morning, hundreds lined the streets to pay their respects as Sergeant Helus body was transferred to the coroner. Also killed, cody kaufman. His father sent his son aspired to join the army. I just want to pray for everybody else thats going to be going through the same situation. Theres many more to come. For me, this is. The gunman identified as ian david long, a marine veteran who partly killed himself and may have suffered from ptsd. Authorities searched his home for a motive then say he had some contact with police over the years, the most recent was a disturbance call in april. The shooting leaving many wondering how this could happen again. We are in the safest city in the nation. This is something we need to act on. Every time we have an event and then the shooting, we want to do something. Its time to act. We are learning the names of more of the victims. Among them, one that hits close to home for us, Alaina Housley was a freshman at Pepperdine University and the niece of former fox News Reporter adam housley. We send our condolences to her parents, eric and hannah. And the other 11 families whose hearts are broken tonight. Bret so sad. Jonathan, thank you. Newly empowered Congressional Democrats are making a political point tonight by hoarding the administration against discarding any documents related to the special consoles investigation or the firing of the attorney general, Jeff Sessions. Chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge has the update. Senior house and Senate Democrats said preservation letters to the Administration Intelligence agencies and fbi for all records relevant to the special counsel russian investigation. As well as the resignation of attorney general Jeff Sessions. With control of the house in january, they took aim at the new acting attorney general, matt whitaker. We can insist the documents be preserved in this transition and also demand the recusal of mr. Whitaker who has demonstrated a pretty clear conflict of interest. We may have been more powerless in the past, but thats not the case now. Democrats highlighted whitakers july 2,017th interview about cutting funding for special counsel robert mueller. If attorney general Jeff Sessions was out. I can see a scenario where Jeff Sessions replaced with a recess appointment and that attorney general doesnt fire bob mueller but he reduces his budget so low that his investigation grants to almost a whole to. The president asking for sessions regulation, whitaker oversees the Justice Department and the special counsel russian investigation. Sessions march 2017 recusal from the russia probe drove a wedge between himself and the president. There will be an investigation here about whether the president deliberately did this to obstruct the investigation. Consular to the president of the shakeup is not about disruption. I think its very commendable and notable that the president is offering for a continuum by having the chief of staff to the attorney general, in there for over a year on the job cant be the acting attorney general until a permanent replacement can be nominated and keeping in his job that Deputy Attorney general, mr. Rosenstein. And experts is that calls for whitaker to recuse himself based on tv interviews and tweets are without legal merit. Theres a difference between a lawyer as a commentator and a lawyer as an acting attorney general. To suggest that hes going to throw away all his Legal Training in ethics to be as cnn said a stooge is rather unfair. In a tweet, jeff flake and democrat chris coons said they will push for a floor vote when the senate convenes next week on legislation that would protect special counsel robert mueller. Consideration of the bill would require the consent of all senators. Bret thank you. The favorite parlor game in washington has officially started. Who will be the new attorney general nominee. Sources say three names are being talked about, former new Jersey Governor Chris Christie who happened to be at the white house today, Florida Attorney general pam bondi, and South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham who also met with the president of the white house. Just a few miles down the road, a much calmer scene. 16 migrants from honduras including children and unaccompanied minors seeking asylum carrying birth certificates and other documents, not running but surrendering to uniformed officers knowing that they will be processed and likely allowed to stay. The Rio Grande Valley sector is the busiest in the nation for illegal crossings. Customs and border protections hasnt made more than 21,000 arrests here in october alone, close to 900 on some days, roughly half are considered humanitarian cases seeking out authorities. The other half are criminals trying to evade them. The u. S. She has overcome cancer twice, including pancreatic cancer. She survived that several years ago. She is one tough cookie. She is the oldest Supreme Court justice. Stephen breyer trails behind her by five years. Both were appointed to the bench by president clinton. Ginsburg is well known for taking pride in her physical thickness. She exercises with a personal trainer offer often and has no plans to retire anytime soon. As for President Trump its no secret he would like a third chance to test the fill a vacancy. She is a disgrace to the Supreme Court. For her to politicize the Supreme Court, to come out and see the kind of things theres almost something wrong with her. The appointments of justices gorsuch and kavanaugh have been winning issues for the president. They have bolstered his base and will undoubtedly help solidify his legacy. Bret thank you. A locked of sides weighing in tonight. Tonight the administration is standing by its decision to suspend jim acostas credential and says the video shows physical contact with a white house aide. Correspondent kevin corke is at the white house tonight. Good evening. Good evening. Without question there is no shortage of opinions about jim acostas runin with the president on wednesday, nor the revocation of his credential to cover the trump white house. You are very rude person. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible. President trumps willingness to mix it up with the press is well established. Wednesdays backandforth with Cnns Jim Acosta escalated the tension between the white house and the Fourth Estate to new levels. Thats enough. Thats enough. Thats enough. Thats enough. For his part, acosta rejected the white houses suggestion he was out of line. I didnt put my hands on her or touch her, as they are alleging. Its unfortunate the white house is saying the reaction to bar acosta was mixed, the White House Correspondents Association and acostas employer cnn suggested that the move was an affront to free speech, calling it disproportionate and unprecedented respectively. Bret benjamin, thank you. Back here in the u. S. , disturbing story affecting one of our own here in fox news. An angry mob did damage and made threats at the home of Tucker Carlson last night. Fortunately no one was hurt. Police are investigating it as a possible hate crime, according to the Washington Metropolitan Police tonight. It points the growing problem of harassment and violence targeting public figures. Fox news media analyst and host of media buzz was quote takes a look. Trumps proposal will get us closer to the two hours before his show last night, Tucker Carlson learned nearly two dozen antifascist protesters were outside his home chanting insults and demanding he leave the city. We know where you sleep at night. The leftwing demonstrators frightened carlsons wife. Their children were not at home. His front door cracked. Carlson told me he would debate the group on the air but said these werent protesters. They came to threaten my family. There threats are designed to shut people up. Fox news ceo and the president called the incident reprehensible, the violent threats and intimidation tactics toward him and his family are completely acceptable. The group, smash racism d. C. , which made public the home addresses of carlsons brother and the cofounder of the daily caller have staged protests against republicans like senator ted cruz. This is part of a wave of confrontations targeting g. O. P. Lawmakers and Homeland Security chief kirstjen nielsen. And republican leader mitch mcconnell. With the protest expanding to conservative media figures, some of carlsons liberal critics tweeted today that his home should be outofbounds. Tucker carlson is a controversial commentator but targeting homes and families breaches the boundaries of freespeech. Such harassment could spark counter protest against the left, raising the risk that one of these incidents will end badly. Bret thank you. We have been here before. Florida may be going to a recount. I have no interest in looking backwards. Im going to look to the future and we have a Bright Future in front of us. We did not seek this recount. Senator nelson did not put out the statement because its automatic but rather because we believe that at the end of the process, senator nelson is going to be declared the winner. Bret in florida, the state law is that half a percent or less separating two candidates goes automatically to a machine recount. If its a quarter of a percent or less, goes to a manual recount breakers we are tonight. The Florida Senate race, rick scott at 4,091,645 votes. And there you see bill nelson. The difference. 22 . That would fall into the manual recount territory. Florida governor race, very see the separation between ron desantis and Andrew Gillum. This is under the half a percent difference, and that goes into a machine recount automatic, even after Andrew Gillum conceded on Election Night. The Gillum Campaign put out a statement on tuesday night that the campaign operated with the best Information Available but they never Outstanding Balance left account since that time has been, its come clear theres many more uncounted ballots than originally reported. The campaign along with the attorney, barry richard, you remember from him from the recount in tallahassee in 2000, monitoring the situation and ready for any outcome including a statemandated recount. Mayor gillum started his campaign for the people and we are committed to ensuring every single vote in florida is counted. Since the show has started, ive been texted by political operatives on the left and right who have been getting bombarded by emails that say recount alert, recount update, basically all asking for money for lawyers from both sides to flood to florida. Here we go again. Lets bring in the panel. Matthew continetti, editor in chief of the Washington Free beacon. Catherine lucey, washington reporter for the Associated Press and morgan ortagus. Morgan, you have a florida connection. Via an fourth or fifth generation floridian. I worked for then president bush in 2004. I worked campaigns fair. Bret its a fascinating state. Comes down it seems to one point. We like to make it dramatic. Bret this is really interesting. All the different issues in florida, you have among other things Puerto Ricans who came from puerto rico after hurricane maria, american citizens who have the right to register and some 200,000 plus apparently did. There are all kinds of questions about Hurricane Michael and what they did to affect the ballots in bay county and other places. Theres two things that we excel at in florida, hurricanes and recount. This is the season for both those things. I think whats going on here is this at this point, its almost a second election within an election. We have really moved past the general election. This is going to be coming down to lawyers and p. R. Strategy. I think that one thing though florida recount has in common with the arizona recount on the georgia recount is republicans on the senate and governor s race is our head and these. I think theres a big lesson to be learned here from the democrat side as it relates to florida. You saw the republican machine rick scott has built really come out here. Rick scott has been in charge of building of the republican machine. What youre going to see is this is going to be a court battle. Its going to be a p. R. Strategy and im sure going to continue to get texts as it goes back and forth. When you look at whats happening in Broward County and i challenge everyone to look at senator rubios comments, his tweets the afternoon, he detailed, and politico has talked about it. Several articles about the corruption of the Broward County elections office. Youre going to hear wild stories. I think what will happen is republican for governor and senator will still come out ahead although we are seeing the statewide Office Agriculture commissioner which is very important in florida, the democrat is ahead. Bret we are getting worried that rick scott is going to speak in tallahassee tonight, pushing back on democrats recount efforts and calls. Its not really a choice. In florida, its automatic. Its automatic although i think the person behind could waive the recount, challenge the recount. Automatic recount that happens. I think the political story here is interesting which is the results of this have a lot of influence on 20 20. This is a state the president took. I think coming out of the midterms, one of the big storie stories, where republicans and democrats are and which states, where states fall. Florida is still a true swing state and thats what we are seeing with potentially threeweek recounts coming down to the wire. Bret i spent 40 days and 40 nights in tallahassee in 2000, bouncing from court room took court room and looking and hanging chance. This could take a while. We all have that moment i think this afternoon of flashback. Heres the difference. Its in the margin. 17,000 votes right now in the senate race, even larger in the gubernatorial race. In 2,000, it was hundreds of votes. Its very rare for a recount to shift the decision that we find on Election Night. The last prominent one was in 2008, minnesota senate. Norm coleman versus al franken. That was a shift of several hundred votes, under 1,000. I am looking for the votes that will get the democrats to make up these margins. I think there are important for Governor Scott to speak out because what you see from the statement, Hillary Clintons lawyer in 2016, democratic powerhouse, hes trying to go in strong and dominate the narrative. Scott cannot allow that to happen. Bret thats why youre going to see the press conference tonight. In georgia, the georgia governors race. Democrat Stacey Abrams is not conceding as of yet. Theres a difference of 62,724 votes as of now. Brian kemp withdrew from the secretary of state position today, saying hes making the transition to governorelect. Arizona, we should know in about 15 minutes about some of the other ballots. Theres about 600,000 plus yet to be counted in this race. A slightly, 17,000 votes, 16,778 for the republican Martha Mcsally. Some areas, Maricopa County, coming in possibly tonight where Kyrsten Sinema could pick up. Its up in the air. Its fascinating about the arizona races mick sally you saw independent voters, suburban women which weve talked about leading up to the election do a split ticket vote in arizona, voting for republican governor and that democrat female candidate for senate. Thats why i say i think republicans have some very hard lessons to learn about arizona, especially when it comes to the machine. This is a classic example where the governor is incredibly wellliked and did get those independent votes. Bret lets play the if game, if sinema pulls out a win in arizona, and nelson finds the votes in florida, you have a mississippi runoff at the end of november where there will be a lot of attention on that, potentially would only be a one seat pickup for the republicans if it went the wrong way and a Republican Point of view. That would change the dynamic about, that makes murkowski and collins and the people who really are in the middle much more powerful with a one seat majority. Speaker absolutely. The narrative out of the white house after tuesday was gains in the senate, coming in strong, lots of things we can do. Charges, appointments. And that gets harder if you have the same kind of tight majority. Bret next top, whatever happened to civility . President trump thats enough. Thats enough. Thats enough. Pardon me, maam. All i can say is i was trying to hang onto the microphone so i could continue to ask the president questions. Obviously i didnt put my hands on her or touch her as they are alleging and its unfortunate that the white house is saying this. I dont think anybody should have any young woman, particularly should have somebody swiping away at them and grabbing the microphone back. Its very unfortunate. I talked to that young woman. Shes just doing her job. Bret the white house standing by its decision to pull the credentials of jim acosta unseated after that press conference and his display and asking those questions and holding onto the microphone. A lot of people weighing in on all sides. Cnn put out a statement. The White House Correspondents Association put out a statement saying that pulling credentials is the wrong thing. Hume tweeted out a president ial press conference no matter whose president is a forum to ask questions but dont argue. You get one chance, may be a followup. Your colleagues are waiting their turn. Show them some respect. The president is not about you. What about this . We will talk about another story as well, the Tucker Carlson story. Struck by the tenor of the press conference. Jim acosta started his question by saying mr. President , i want to challenge you. Not normally reporters say. May be a challenging question but rarely are they so direct in their confrontation with an elected official, much less a president of the united states. Then everything to evolve from there i think its important for reporters to understand they are there to ask questions, preferably one question. Bob novak, one of my mentors always said, ask one question. You dont need to questions. And then turn it over to colleagues. That was not what we saw this press conference yesterday and i dont get reflected well. Bret the Associated Press put out a statement. Thats right, like the White House Correspondents Association, condemned pulling jim acostas credentials. The ap said its an essential function of a free press to independently news gather. We strongly reject the idea that the white house would block a reporters ability to do their job at the white house. If you bola lens back, were in a moment of such palooka boiling point. Tensions are so high i think on all sides of the debate. Some of that, we see it on the campaign trail as well but the president and his rallies and some of that without their candidates. Theres a tone right there, the president s twitter feed insults, the way he engages, an and. Bret another really unfortunate incident and thats the mob outside Tucker Carlsons home when his wife was at home. Shouting and breaking the front door there. The protesters saying we know where you sleep at night. All kinds of statements about that, including our own Suzanne Scott and jay wallace saying that it was reprehensible and violent threats and intimidation tactics towards tucker and his family are completely unacceptable. Morgan, that was universal, all sides putting out statements today. Tucker is one of the most watched opinion programs in the country. You can agree with him or not agree with him, but to go to his home and have his wife call 911 in the pantry, locked up, its quite something. Its disturbing on all levels no matter whom it happens too. Whether its here or at another network. Similar to what catherine said, i think its symptomatic of a larger political environment that we are in. Bret, i dont see this changing anytime soon. I think we like to come as the american public, we like to lament the political environment we are in and we like to say what we wish was different but we dont really. If you think about it, we are all addicted. We are addicted to loving the president. We are addicted to hating the president. We are addicted to this political environment and what selling right now unfortunately is not bipartisanship, not sober commentary, like we have on this panel. Whats really selling is the hotter and the louder and the nastier you can be on both sides. I really do not see that changing anytime soon. The minute something happens, one side blames the other. Looking at the gettysburg address, we are a government of the people, for the people, by the people. Theres no political savior coming to change this. Bret we will keep it civil on this panel. How about that . When we come back, a surprising singer of johnny cash. Over 100 years ago, we were talking about the model t. Now here we are talking about winning the most jd power iqs and appeal awards. Talking about Driverassist Technology talking about cars that talk and listen.
