It is time to heal the wounds that divide us and to seek a new unity based on the common values that unite us. We are one people with one home and one great flag. In phoenix, it was the president unbound by any restriction of protocol or policy. Unloading on a number of topics, including a 30 minute rant against the media. For the most part, honestly, these are really, really dishonest people. And they are bad people. And i really think they dont like our country. I really believe that. The only people giving a platform to these hate groups is the media itself and the fake news. President trump also swung back against criticism his response to charlottesville was not enough. I said everything. I hit them with neonazi. I hit them with everything. I got there white supremacists, neonazi, i got them all. Lets say. Kkk. We have kkk. I got them all. He warned democrats against standing in the way of a border wall. Let me be very clear to democrats in congress. Who oppose a border wall and stand in the way of border security. If you are putting all of americas safety at risk. He predicted talks to renegotiate nafta would likely fail. I think we will end up probably terminating nafta at some point, okay. Probably. The rally was as strident and boisterous as anything in the heat of the election campaign. The crowd ate it up. It wasnt the right time for a speech like that, and unfortunately last night, the president gave a speech that did continue to divide this country. He did nothing to unite this country and did indicate he will be pardoning sheriff joe. Trent frank who the president brought on stage last night, disagreed. Well, i thought the mayor was posturing in a really tragic way. I thought it was unfortunate that he somehow prejudged the president s speech. The president s speech was externally unifying. Sharpest criticism came from the former director of National Intelligence who mused maybe he was trying to find a way out of the job. I question his ability, his fitness to be in this office. This behavior and this divisiveness and the complete intellectual, moral, ethical void that the president of the United States exhibits. The white house said this afternoon that theres no timing or decision yet on a pardon of sheriff joe arpaio, former sheriff of maricopa county. Fox news has been told that the paper necessary for the pardon the talking points to handle surrogates to sell and are prepared and ready to go. Bret Republican Leaders in congress have warily avoided triggering a shutdown of the federal government since 2013 when the last shot down shutdown was blamed on the g. O. P. I think his staff and a lot of people are worried he would go rogue in phoenix. And thats exactly what he did. I have to say if youve watched a lot of trump speeches, especially campaign speeches, this was very characteristic. It was a classic trump sandwich. He starts off on message, talking about unity and other stuff. Then he just goes offer 45 minutes and goes all over the place. He relitigates charlottesville. He attacks mccain. He does all sorts of stuff, and then at some point he remembers oh, ive got to talk about jobs again. He gets back on script. Thats classic trump. I didnt actually see that much other than the news without threatening to shut down the government if he doesnt get funding for the border wall. I didnt see that much new. Bret it did raise some eyebrows. Now the obstructionist democrats would like us not to do it, but believe me, we have to close down our government. We are building that wall. I dont think anyone is interested in having a shutdown. I dont think its in our interests to do so. While we work on doing what we said we would do and what weve done already and what we need to do which includes our border. Bret as predicted, when congress, the leadership comes back, they are going to go to the white house, including senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell and the House Speaker and talk about the way forward on these items. Perhaps trying to get a vote from senator flake on some of the issues. I love the phrase trump sandwich. To go back to that of a item. We saw that the previous week. The initial comments about charlottesville took one tone, and then he came out and read a more statesmanlike conciliatory words. Then on tuesday he did the press conference totally off message. Which is the trump people should believe is the real trump . I would say it is the filling in the sandwich, not the bread. Those are the moments when President Trump seems to be speaking what he means, what he really thinks. That will be the President Trump i assume negotiating with Mitch Mcconnell. Bret three republican lawmakers with the same analysis. We saw two different president s. I thought the president did an exceptional job on afghanistan. I think we would be better served if thats the president weighs more often. I wish he would go after Vladimir Putin and kim jong un as much as he is the republicans. The republican feels that the strategy that works for him. I would say its important to stay unified as republicans to complete our agenda. Bret how many times have we heard this is going to change or this is the guy we wish was in the oval office.
