Comer has issued a subpoena for the purported document. He and senator Chuck Grassley have been investigating the biden family and their business conduct. They sent a letter this afternoon to attorney general Merrick Garland and fbi director chris wray claiming, quote a highly credible whistleblower maintains the Justice Department and fbi likely have a form that, quote describes an alleged Criminal Scheme involving then Vice President biden and a Foreign National relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions. Its been alleged that the document includes a precise description of how the alleged Criminal Scheme was employed as well as its purpose. Its unclear hot whistleblower is. The specifics of their allegations or if this document even exists. We have credible information that this possible Criminal Activity took place and i cant verify whether or not its Criminal Activity but i do have faith in the whistleblower. Grassley added he has a rough idea of what is in the alleged document. The white house has just responded, quote for going on five years now. Republicans in congress have been lobbing unfounded, unproven politically motivated attacks against the president and his family without Offering Evidence for their claims or evidence of decisions influenced by anything other than u. S. Interest. The subpoena gives the fbi one week until noon next week to produce forms containing the word biden from june 2020. The u. S. The Atlanta Police Department Says its search for the suspected shooter is now focused north of atlanta in cobb county, georgia. Authorities say the suspect now identified as 24yearold Deion Patterson may have stolen a car and headed in that direction. This after police say patterson allegedly shot five people, all women, killing one and injuring four others inside of a medical building in midtown atlanta. Calls started of to come in about an active shooter around noon. We spoke to one terrified witness who says she works in the building and tells us she heard several gunshots and hunkered down in her office with an only an ink pen to protect herself. I just heard gunshot. At first i didnt know exactly what that was. I have never been in a situation like this before and i have never saw someone shot down either. I saw blood on her face. When they were trying to get out. And then i saw blood on her face and. [wind blowing] couple of coworkers got shot, i dont know what the conditions are. Now, as you can imagine, bret, this latest Mass Shooting has really shaken people up in upscale midtown. We saw multiple people in tears and being consoled as they were evacuated from buildings in the area. As for the 24yearold suspect, we dont know what his motive is or if he was connected to any individuals that he allegedly shot today. We do Know Patterson was a member of the United States coast guard. A spokesperson tells fox news in a statement, quote the Coast Guard Investigative Service is working closely with the Atlanta Police department and local authorities in the investigation. Mr. Patterson entered the coast guard in july 2018 and last served as an electricians mate second class. Weighs discharged from active duty in january 2023. And as authorities focus their search in cobb county, georgia, we are told a shelter in place order in midtown has been lifted so folks in this area can move freely. Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for patterson but also urging people to keep their distance because patterson is still considered armed and dangerous. Bret . Turns out millions of people in our country are struggling with loneliness and isolation. I know this in part because as i have traveled around the country i have heard some stories from College Students from, busy parents from elderly people in our country who all talk about their struggles with being alone. They dont use that word often alone but they will often say things like i feel i have to go through Everything In My Life by myself or i feel if i disappear tomorrow no one would even care. Loneliness is both incredibly common with one in two adults reported measurable levels of loneliness. Also consequential for our health it. Increases the risk of depression, anxiety and suicide but also raises the risk of Heart Disease and dementia, stroke, and premature death. Bret in the writeup that you had on this, the warning, you say loneliness is far more than just a bad feeling. It harms both individual and societal health. Its associated with greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke and depression as you just mentioned. You go on to say the mortality impact of being socially disconnected is similar to that called by smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day and greater than that associated with obesity and physical an activity. Those are staggering stats when you listen to that how do you get to that 15 cigarettes a day . Is there scientific backup to get to you that statement . There has been a growing body of evidence, actually, over the years thats been telling us just how significant the consequences of loneliness are. And to understand why this has such an effect on our body, we have to recognize that for thousands of years we evolved to actually be together, to have strong trusting relationships and our survival depended on that. And when we were separated from one another, that actually put us in a stress state where our safety was at risk. We were more likely to get attacked by a predator. So when we still experience loneliness and isolation, we feel the stress of it. Now, if its shortlived because we pick up the phone and call a friend or go see someone we love, we might be fine. Its when that stress state is chronic, when its longlived, thats when that Chronic Stress can drive inflammation in our body and increase the risk of physical illness. Bret how much do you think the lockdowns around covid, the remote schooling for children, now is factoring in to this feeling of loneliness that we are just coming out of this pandemic . Covid really poured fuel on the fire. A fire that was already burning. Certainly being separated from one another, our kids not being able to be in schools. That was tough for many of us. And it increased that sense of loneliness and isolation. But, even before the pandemic, we were seeing extraordinarily high levels of loneliness and i would say for the last five, six decades we have seen decreasing participation in Community Organizations and faith organizations, civic organizations, and athletic leagues. We have also though seen that technology is fundamentally changed how we have been interacting with one another. Its changed what used to be off line high quality interactions into Online Interactions that are often lower quality. So its not that technology on the whole is bad. Its added efficiencies to our lives giving us conveniences. What we havent done is intentionally built the infrastructure in our lives and in our communities. To strengthen social connection. Bret put down the phone, get off the video game. Go play some soccer or some kick ball outside. Tell your kids to do that. Bret, on that point, im so glad you said that when we hear about problems like this sometimes they can feel overwhelming, we can think, gosh, this is too big for me to solve and yes, there are roles for policymakers and Communication Organizations that can bring people together. But in our own lives today, there are steps we can take. We can, for example, spend 15 minute as day reaching out to someone we care abouake sure the are with others that were fully present that we are not distracted by our devices. We can look for ways to help other people in our lives, recognizing that small acts of service have a powerful effect on making us feel more connected with one another. So there are steps that we can take and the small steps make a big difference in how connected we feel. So we have got to be intentional about it. But this is a problem that we can solve. You know there is not one single bit of evidence, not one little tiny bit to say anything was done was wrong. There have been some accusations made and it seems to me that i want to know has there been proper followup has there political influence to not proceed if there is reasonable, possible Criminal Activity . Bret senator Chuck Grassley working alongside james comer says that new whistleblower here. Comer writing a letter with grassley at to the fbi and thej saying the information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then Vice President biden allegedly engaged in a Bribery Scheme with a Foreign National. The American People need to know if President Biden sold out the United States of america to make money for himself. The white house responded in a fairly lengthy statement. This is part of it. White house spokesperson saying they, republicans, prefer floating anonymous innuendo amplified by the mega phone of their allies in the right wing media to get attention to try to distract and deflect from their own unpopular ideas and lack of solutions to the issues the American People actually care about. Saying there is not substance here and that the president has been transparent. With that, lets bring in our panel, fox news chief political analyst brit hume, leslie marshall, democratic strategist and Morgan Ortagus former state department spokesperson. Brit, let me start with you. This is now the second whistleblower we have heard about. You remember the 10year vet of the irs says that allegedly told republicans that he does not believe that this investigation into the Hunter Biden Situation is being handled properly. This seems more direct. At least in whats being said by grassley and comer. Well, this is, after all, if there is anything to it, is about biden himself and not simply his son and maybe him through his son. On the other hand, we dont know who the whistleblower is. We dont know what foreign country was involved. We dont know how much money was involved, if any. We dont know what the specific influence being sought to do. In other words, we dont know very much. And this is an early stage of this. It doesnt keep these politicians on the hill from coming out and talking about it and for the white house to respond. But, we need to be careful here because, you know, the air is full of charges as it sometimes is and were in the political season, so my advice is lets be careful here. Bret i agree and we are being that leslie, we, you know, caveat that we dont have any hard information but we have these letters going out to the fbi and doj. This whistleblower says there is a specific document that is unclassified that alleges this scheme. So, where does this go . Well, if there is, in fact, a document that sun classified that blows the lid off of this scheme then, you know, certainly we, the American People, need to be aware of that and we should be very worried and concerned about that. But, heres the problem. I just dont see anything there. You know, theres a lot of people that, you know, Point Fingers but where are the names. Where is the proof of this conversation . This document that this said whistleblower is referring to . Bret yeah. And we will continue to follow it and look for the facts as they come. I want to turn to the economy. The Federal Reserve raising key Interest Rate by. 25. Here is the chairman Jerome Powell. The case of avoiding a recession is in my view more likely than that of having a recession. But its not that the case of having a recession is i dont rule that out, either. Its possible that well have, what i would hope, would be a mild recession. Bret you always have to read between the tea leaves there when the fed chair talks, morgan. But, theres at least a chance of a recession here and some pumpy winds ahead. Gold man saks 65 of the economists they spoke to in their poll did predict a a recession. We will see. Its important to remember why we are in this situation today. Why Jerome Powell is having to raise the Interest Rate by another 25 bases points and thats because of the 3. 37 trillion, thats trillion with a t in new spending since President Biden came into office over the past two years. And thats spending and, of course, the fed missed the early signs of inflation but that spending led us to where we are today and to the Economic Situation that were in i also thought it was interesting Jerome Powell spent a lot of the Press Conference what would happen if america doesnt pay our bills referencing the debt debate that is going on In Washington right now and mccarthy still trying to get President Biden to meet with him. Looks like it may happen soon. But clearly Jerome Powell was warning people that americas failure to get, to pay our bills and pay that on time will have lasting consequences for our economy. At least in the short run. Bret yeah. And, you know, its interesting, brit, it is off to we will have that negotiation with the congressional leaders in the white house over the debt ceiling next week and talking about the budget. But the president s campaign launched. He is out with a Second Campaign today. He focuses on the u. S. Economy. But he is taking tomorrow and the next day off as far as events. Take a listen to a piece of that ad. Joe bidens building an economy that leaves no city, no town, no american behind. Were investing in places and people that had been forgotten. They have been invisible. But we havent forgotten them. Bret you know, he uses that forgotten man and woman theme. But, obviously, the polls show concern about the u. S. Economy, brit. Brit this is going to be a hard sell. I mean, i suppose they have to try because the economy is so important in these elections. But people hate this economy. And if there is a recession, they are going to hate it even more. I guess they have to try. This but i dont see its going to sell very well. Lets remember one other thing too when you see the Hand Wringing about defaulting on our debt. Defaulting on our debt, our National Debt payments would be a choice because enough tax revenue coming in, more than enough to cover those payments. Now, if, you know, if we dont raise the debt limit, a lot of other bills wont be paid and it will be ugly and there will be Spending Cuts and so on. But it will not necessarily be a default. That would be a choice by the administration and the Treasury Department to let that happen. Bret leslie, final word. Well, you know, i think powell was signaling in his speech today that in september, perhaps that this would be the last rate hike and then september things will come down. I dont think this is surprising. I think, you know, even though the economists like morgan said, have predicted a recession, thy keep predicting it and pushing it six months down the road. Six months down the road. And regarding those polls, i dont believe the polls because if we believed the polls, there would have been a tsunami in the midterms and it would have been me that was drowned, my party, the blue, and it didnt happen. Bret morgan, do you believe the polls . It depends. If they del me what i want to hear, i guess. [laughter] im just kidding, leslie. You know, listen, you dont have to look at the polls. Go to the Grocery Store with me. Go to the Grocery Store with moms around the country. Lets look at the price of eggs in the last presidency under donald trump. Lets look at the price of eggs now, the price of milk. Whomever the republican nominee is thats what they need to run on. People arent happy. They are still making choices of whether to fill up their gas tank full of gas or to go in the Grocery Store and fill up their cart full of groceries, as long as they are making those choices they arent going to be happy.
