Clinton over the top. But aides said he would not be casting the supporting vote. And today, told them that refusing to support secretary clinton comes with consequences saying and heres a quote. It is easy to boo, but its harder to look your kids in the face who would be living under donald trump. Senator Elizabeth Warren called his campaign a hot air machine. Senator al afranken portrayed trump as a con artist with trump university. But the speech that has the most talking about went after trump without ever mentioning his name. Dont let anyone ever tell you that this country isnt great. That somehow we need to make it great again. But this right now is the greatest country on earth. Michelle obama, the first lady, brought down the house with her endorsement of Hillary Clinton. Especially notable after the bruising primary fight between Hillary Clinton and her husband amendment years ago. Todays speech is another first. A wouldbe first gentleman, rallying support for his wife. Tonight will mark the tenth straight convention that president bill clinton has addressed. Ten in a row. Even as delegates here seem to be coming behind Hillary Clinton theres a dark cloud threatening to throw everything into chaos. The wikileaks founder Julian Assange claims there will be more release of information provening that party bosses were indeed biased toward Hillary Clinton at least after the game got going. A revelation that has Bernie Sanders supporters in open rebellion yesterday. And cost the democratic chairwoman her job. We have Kathryn Ayers with more on the leak investigation. Lets get to Jennifer Griffin whos here in philly. This sanders thing, there is more to this. How would you describe it . You just talked to a high place. Well, we just got information from the Sanders Campaign and they suggested that Bernie Sanders would not be sitting up here. He was either going to call for suspension of the roll call vote and put her over the top through acclamatio acclamation. Thats what a is to do. Given the booing by the delegates on the floor it is now, we understand, all being renegotiated. Its very fluid. And sanders himself will be up in the family box where you saw bill clinton last night. And its not clear whether he will come down. We did happen to see Governor Terry mcauliffe of virginia, hes the one that is going to put Hillary Clintons name in for nomination. And he told me it would be very fluid and it would be very nice if Bernie Sanders would come down. They need more unity. Did it feel like that by the time we were done with Michelle Obama that the bernie bros they all seemed to be kumbayaing . It felt like the tension came out of the arena. She never mentioned donald trump by name. And certainly, you didnt hear the kind of booing that you heard even during Elizabeth Warrens speech and bernies speech. Tonight, bill clinton, if you havent been to one of these things. Its incredible what that man does to a room. It doesnt matter what you feel about him. Hes amazing in the room. Whats his goal, whats his mission . Well, he has a very big role. A big mission. Hes got to introduce his wife, someone who has been at the forefront of politics for 25 years where you feel like theres nothing more we can know about Hillary Clinton. Hes got to reintroduce her to give her a fresh introduction to the american public. Its going to be difficult. The Campaign Calls him their communicator in chief. The question is whether he can bring the same thunder when he announced barack obama a few years ago. How do you like the politics role . You have many hats. It is great. I feel like its the moment that all of my previous assignments have brought me to this point. Its great fun. Im glad. Its hector and hot. Youre doing great. The founder of wikileaks that published the dnc emails says theres no evidence that russia played a part in the hacking. Julian assange did not deny it but told nbc news theres no proof. And he also concluded that accusation is a diversion and blamed Hillary Clintons camp for that. Sources tell fox news that there is indeed evidence that points to russia, though we havent seen it. Kathryn ayers is live in washington. How are russian officials responding to all of this . Before a meeting with secretary of state john kerry it was really an awkward moment when russias foreign minister was asked if his country was in fact behind the dnc hack. Well, i dont want to use four letter words. Fox news has learned that hackers left behind a trail of physical evidence on the dnc servers including malicious codes to steal emails and documents that do tie back to moscow. But forensic evidence points very clearly to a very sophisticated nation state. Is this a wellresourced adversary. Specifically, theyre using the same tools and techniques previously associated with russia. Speaking at a conference in new york city, the president s adviser would not discuss the fbi investigation but described the cyberattacks on Government Systems and the dnc as significant. Hey, whats the word from the white house . Well, this afternoons briefing, the white house described the attribution to russia as simply speculative. And would not say whether the fbi would ultimately name names. Back in 2014, we also said that releasing an internal assessment on attribution would not be standard playbook. On the contrary, it would be casebycase basis. And investigators will look at two things. One is clarity of evidence pointing to a particular culprit. And the second is whether its in the United States best interest to release that. The founder of wikileaks Julian Assange said he does have more emails from the clinton foundation. And they show evidence of corruption. And based on the previous statements that should happen sometime before november. Well look for that. The National Political reporter for the associated press. How are you . Im good. Nice to see you in person. Tell me what your reporting suggests about whether there was a turn in the Bernie Sanders supporters after the night went on. Did it improve . Like it felt like it, or what are they saying . I was on the floor last night. And it did feel like there was a lightening of how much they dug in. I think there are clearly supporters that do not want to let go. Strongly bernie or bust. And the Clinton Campaign has could be concerned whether those people come out in november. He did a good job, Elizabeth Warren did a good job and of course, the first lady did a good job of giving them a way to know what they know about senator sanders and accept hillary as the nominee. I know the what mission is, its really about trying to show the rest of the supporters around the world that these, the delegates are in, so you need to be in, too. How does bill clinton continue that process . First, we have to go through roll kol. This starts 5 00 eastern time. It was originally the hour before. At any rate, theyre going to go state by state. And were expecting a bit of an uproar, right . Some of the delegates will probably make themselves very known during roll call. Well see what happens with that. I think people are working seriously to keep that under control. Senator sanders has been all over the place talking to small groups of delegates, trying to keep them, you know, enthused about him. But starting to be enthused about her. At least not booing anymore. That could be just a really awkward situation for the nominee this evening. Michelle, the first lady, didnt get too much booing last night. Shes very, very, very popular. That would have been a weird one. If we heard an uproar of boos for Michelle Obama, i would have said they have a lot more trouble than we realize. Exactly. Some of the earlier speakers seemed concerned what they were hearing, the vibe from the floor. Including senator warren, really taken aback by how much the supporters were so vocal and unhappy with clinton as the nominee. How big is the push and pull that jennifer and i were talking about whether Bernie Sanders goes to the delegation up here, just part of the process and how they fit in tonight . So far, our reporting isnt turning up that theyre going to be the ones to nominate her. But well see. I think theres still lots of discussions under way. All eyes will be on that delegation, no matter what. So it would be an ainteresting turn of events vermont has never had such a spotlight. I hope theyre enjoying it. Exactly. Lets just say hypothetically Hillary Clinton ends up winning in november. How would it work to have two president s living inside the white house . We talk about what it would be like in the world of president s clinton. Thats coming up. The Democratic National Convention Live in philadelphia where its cooler today. It feels like the temperature is down to 101 yeah. For lower back pain sufferers, the search for relief often leads to places like. This. This. Or this. Today, theres a new option. Shannon breen is here in philly. Shannon. Reporter all right, this would be new in so many different ways, shep, because like analysts i talked to it would be like George Washington being the first president. Everything you do is going to be a first. There is some history to look back on as you consider strong spouses who contributed to a presidency. Eleanor roosevelt. Of course, you remember this first couple when they were last in the white house. Hillary clinton took on a very strong role with Health Care Reform and took some heat over that anyway. Listen, there were those who thought at the time she was trying to be a copresident with bill clinton. If he does have a seat at the table there are those who may question, it looks as if shes a woman and needs some help or infesi ineffecti ineffective. Shes going to have to make it clear if she wins that shes in charge. I think its incredible important that she stresses from the getgo, that it is her agenda. That is her agenda. That she would be the person that the American People voted for so he would be playing just a supportive role. Reporter everyone i talked to agreed on a few things. Listen, this guy is not going to be the one picking out china and giving tours of the garden, shep. But how big of a supportive role . Reporter well, its interesting because there are those here on the left who say they actually dont want him to have too much of a role because they think shes much more progressive. Hes much more moderate. And they dont want them getting slowed down in the process. And if you think about it during the primary season she was going to the left and thats where many people want her to stay. We do hear rumblings that if he had a seat of table, that thats where she stays. And undoubtedly, hes going to have influence. Just how much, says karl rove, thats up to her. I think hes going to want to be in it up to his armpits. The question is does she want it and does the American People want it . Does she want it may be a question because Hillary Clinton by all standards is much more liberal than he is. Reporter there are also questions about the clinton foundation, exactly how that would be handled. Its a great area for a lot of people when it comes to hard and fast balls and rules. Shep. Shannon bream, live over outside the newsroom. Shannon, thank you. We sent kennedy out to the crowds. Which is dangerous. We sent her to talk to Bernie Sanders. Bernie sanders says he hopes his delegates will vote for Bernie Sanders even though hes endorsed Hillary Clinton but he also says he hopes the delegates will treat the process with respect and not boo anybody. Kennedy is just here as you just saw. Shes host of kennedy if the if the on the fox news network. You had a lot of fun talking last night . I had a great time. The bernie people were in a good mood. They were very serious earlier in the day. But when they actually made it to convention the delegates still had bernie on the brain but they were open to some ideas. You talked to them. I did. Did you get some sound . I got some sound, some tape. I had a camera person and is this how it went. Wow, fancy. Things have really started to get interesting. No one is more disappointed than i am. Someone said the convention has already fallen apart. We did not come here to crown a clinton. Lets talk to bernie supporters, take their temperature and see how theyre feeling. I am an elected official representing voters. And they want me to fight for Bernie Sanders. Well, what about all the bernie supporters that are still mad . Everything that has a beginning has an end. The election is just about at the end. Hillary is the nominee, so let it go. There comes a time when we all have to realize that its time to come together and move on. Hillary clinton must become the next president of the United States. Some people really dont like Hillary Clinton, but i really support her. And i hope that others will come together. I think theres no question that the wikileaks email was a huge, huge mistake. What do you think angered Bernie Millennials . Its okay to be angry. Its okay to be upset. They have been discontented in this cycle. Thats what propelled them into politics. A lot of them have not been involved before. But in the end we cant punish ourselves. What do you want to say to bernie supporters . Get in line. What do you want to say to bernie supporters . Hold on. We have destroyed everything that we wanted. The country is going to fall apart, shep. One way or another. That was really good. It was fun talking to people, especially the california delegation last night. They were ready to cheer, they were ready to dance, and they were ready to fight for bernie. Lets see what happens tonight for roll call. I hope he doesnt shut it down. I hope he lets every state have their vote and voice their support. It starts here at 9 00. Im doing a web show and aFacebook Live chat in the 5 00 hour eastern time. Well be doing that. Reporter well, its interesting the north Atlantic Treaty Association is widely considered to be one of the most important alliances in history because it effectively stopped the aggression and led to the fall of the soviet union. A lot of these vfw folks have been involved in foreign wars either directly or indirectly with nato. Like said before, as other foreign policies and nations, shes going to insist that they pay for our services. In other words, coming to the security guarantees in the nato treaties would not necessarily be the case, unless the u. S. In this city, to nominate a president ial candidate, the year was 1948. And the candidate was harry s. Truman. Reporter delegates from alabama and mississippi stormed out of the Convention Hall in protest, after the party adopted a civil rights platform supporting an antilynching mob, the desegregation of the military, equal opportunity for employment. And the elimination of poll taxes which prevented poor people from voting. This was a Pivotal Moment in the life of the democratic party. And resulted in the birth of what we considered to be the modern democratic party. Reporter the Historical Society of pennsylvania keeps a collection of memorabilia from the event. Heres the official program of the Democratic National convention. Reporter the city of brotherly love played a key role in the 1948 election. Both major parties held their conventions here to maximize television coverage. Philadelphia was at the center of a video cable workers had recently installed between boston and richmond, virginia. Cameras for the first time could transmit video of the proceedings to viewers all at once. It was a major technological event. Imagine the excitement of people back home on their philco televisions watching history roll out in front of them. Reporter but the magic may have been lost on folks who were actually here. There werent enough hotel rooms in the city so many people had to stay up to 50 miles away. Plus, conditions were far from ideal. In that brief period, philadelphia was brutally hot. Reporter temperatures inside the crowded Convention Hall reportedly topped 100 degrees. The first aid station treated dozens upon dozens of cases of heat exhaustion but no one felt the heat quite like harry s. Truman. Former oklahoma senator paved serious is challenges he was the sitting president but not the one voters elected having taken over after the death of roosevelt four years early. Harry s. Truman took the overal as president of the United States. With a world at war, he accepted the gravest responsibility in world history. A new commander thin chief to ld our nation. Reporter the nation had achieved victory but it appeared millions were ready for the change. A poll showed only onethird of voters approved of the job he was doing as he accepted the nomination. I cant tell you how very much i appreciate the honor which has just compart upon me. I shall continue to try to observe it. Reporter yet it seems little is going trumans way. His running mate Alvin Barkley wasnt his first choice. An Supreme Court Justice Douglas turned him down the southern delegates walked out. And the entire convention was running behind schedule. You would have had to stay up very late that night to hear his speech, because it didnt happen until 2 00 in the morning. Reporter but when it did happen, truman galvanized voters for a speech for failing to act ton issues like civil rights. Well win this election and make these republicans like it, dont you forget that. Reporter after the convention, truman took his message to the people. Blazing away. Reporter traveling 22,000 miles across the country by train, delivering up to 13 speeches a day. In what a rival mocked as whistle stop tours. Were going to win this crusade for the right. Reporter meanwhile, down south, delegates who walked out of the Democratic Convention formed their own party. The resvelte against president truman reached its climax. Reporter the socalled dixie rats. Not enough fruits for the people for desegregation and admit into our theaters into our swimming homes and into our treasures. Reporter as election day approached, major had the republican nominee dewey leading up to 15 points. The Washington Post reported truman is destined to also ran on election day. And indeed as the Chicago Tribune went to press on election night, the headline declared dewey defeats truman. But the paper and the polls were wrong. Truman won the popular vote capturing 28 of the 48 states. Dewey won 16 states while Strom Thurman captured four. People wants consistency. More than 1 Million People came to the white house to honor the president. Who punched his way almost singlehandedly to a memorial victory. Historians call it one of the greatest political comebacks of all time. And it started right here in philadelphia, the last time democrats were here, 68 years ago. The Party Dealing with some drama this time around, too. Ill talk with a democratic strategist and Bernie Sanders supporter who says the dnc needs to stop running the dnc like a show out of north korea. We put together a package from martin, hes leaving for cbs. Alicia keys is up there at the drums. I said she wasnt coming for sound check, apparently she came for sound check. I dont know if she sings, were going to listen for sure. Hang on. Despite all the calls for democrats to come together already, one Bernie Sanders support warns today will be even more rowdy than yesterday . Huh. Bernie sanders told delegates from wisconsin saying this is an unbelievable critical moment as he put it for democrats and urged supporters to back Hillary Clinton. But our next guest said its not supporters job to back Hillary Clinton. Its hers. She better get to work. Here is nicki konst. We did have a democratic platform meeting. Two unity amendments at that platform meeting one which was announced two days later and a rules committee that decided to do a Unity Commission to put it off. But these people in the room have raised room. Theyve had Gofundme Pages to come to the convention. And pay 2500 a week in hotel bills. These are working people who want to be delegates. And its very different than the usual suspects of the dnc which is a lot of donors and establishment workers. Theyre here, too. Theyre here, too. But sitting next to each other. I think hillary needs to channel a little bit and feel their pain. And understand that these are people who have been fighting for Bernie Sanders. They represent the communities. They represent the issues of the communities and Bernie Sanders is a vehicle for them. She needs to drive that vehicle. She needs to get in charge and understand exactly where theyre going. Theyre going to push somewhere. Theyre looking for some outlet. And right now because every day we learn theres not going to be a vote here. Theres not going to be a vote here. The senate would say, he lost, shut up. Right. Thats kind of how it seems to work in that other party, he lost, shut up. But here, we got a couch out. Wire democrats like that . I theyve been like that in the past. Weve had a pretty fair run of delegates. And we know that the dnc was supporting Hillary Clinton years out. Jesse jackson reformed the party with far less than that vote. Ted kennedy got in that position of creating superdelegates when he ran against jimmy carter. He didnt get 46 of the votes. Bernie sanders has 46 of the delegates. And its a populist movement. Its not a barack obama Hillary Clinton where the establishment was split. This is the party that want a more reflective party. These people hurt and they want to see change. In the Republican Convention last week, the big money fat cats were not there at all. The mayors, governors, most of those people did not show up. Here you have the bombastic locals who rose up and said im really, really progressive. And i want america to be really progressive. And the fat cats all in the same room. Of course, the fat cats are up in the sky box drinking champagne or whatever they do it was an interesting dynamic. Its like Bernie Sanders speak. Here you are, you terrible one percenters. And the media. There we are, standing in the middle getting in the way. Did you enjoy last night . And what do you think this roll call is about to be like. Quick. I think most last night, i think the audience is tough both sides. They didnt relate very well, as you said. In roll call, i hope everybody is i know theyll be expressing themselves. I think chanting is great. Thats awesome. It makes for great tv. It makes for great tv. Booing not so much. I hope we dont lose sight that most of the delegates are chanting bernie and supporting his issues and i think well see more of that tonight. It starts in 1 hour and 10 minutes right here on the fox. If you have to go work or interesting. Thanks. Thanks. Up next, an absolutely unthinkable act of terror. Attackers cutting a priests throat inside a church and recording it on video. It happened at a Catholic Church northwest of paris. Two attackers described as bearded, brandishing knives, killed that elderly priest ritual style in front of the hostages. We now know among the hostages, two nuns. Then they walked them out of the church shouting allahu akbar, arabic for god is great, and then the police picked them off. Antiterror police then got one more person in custody. Isis is saying these attackers were their soldiers. One of them we now know, a 19yearold, spent a year in jail after trying to get to syria two times to join the isis organization. This morning, shep, he was out on house arrest, basically parole. He was in that church. President hollande said the threat there against france has never been so severe. Is he on point . Reporter absolutely. Hes speaking very directly about this terrorism. He went to the terror scene today to try to reassure a nervous population. Tonight in an address he said the war would be long but they would win it. As for that slain priest, 86 years old.
