Foxes learn the fbi has not yet contacted Christine Blasey ford, the initial accuser of judge kavanaugh. But some know that professor ford has said plenty of growth because it makes sense to talk to other folks before speaking with her. Then the question about what happens with the probe when its done. Over nearly, the background investigations are kept confidential because, obviously, they involve sensitive personal information. About witnesses and the nominee. Under these circumstances, giving the allegations, some sort of public announcement about what the interviews have revealed is important. The fbi may be under no imposition. It is facing a friday deadline for this probe, or trying to expand it to interviewing many more people. I believe nothing about this investigation until i actually see that the fbi is talking to those 25 witnesses on the list i compiled. If expanding the scope means we are going from four witnesses to six, that aint good enough for me. It is worth noting that senator blumenthal has been a no on judge kavanaugh from the very beginning, so its unlikely anything the fbi reports will change his mind. Paris . Theyre not going to say it at the end week. But hes totally guilty or innocent. Thats not going to happen. But we will hopefully have something that we can either point to corroboration or not. Thats why you need faith in institutions. Charlie in the Senate Judiciary committee, they do these back on text, they have confidential hearings, they have closeddoor hearings where they talk about this stuff, its personal, it doesnt need to be aired out in the public. Dr. Ford they would have gone to dr. Ford, she should have testified. All of this could have been done within the confines of the process, and the senators would have been no less melissa can i say one thing . But i also felt equally about judge kavanaugh. When you have that, you have to go to the rest of the facts. The rest of the facts dont hold up. You can destroy a mans life. The evidence just isnt there. There are too many inconsistencies in her story, and there are too many contradictions. Too many the willing suspension of disbelief thats required harris will you be watching with baited breath for the fbi . Theres a beautiful point. Jessica i think the 45day delay, charlie and i were out together last night on Martha Maccallums show, we also discussed that there are procedures built into the senate that we could have dr. Ford in private or senators could have approached judge Kavanaugh Harris my question is, should there be an investigation into why that didnt happen, who leaked the information, and were they looking over senator feinstein shoulder or was this a situation that was much more surreptitious . Jessica i would have no problem with that. I think its information we need to know. Obviously, people need to be protected from public outcry and things like that. Now, new state polling shows 49 of voters, the confirmation process says they will make them less likely to vote for her. 42 say it will make them more likely to vote for her, and only 9 say it makes apsley no difference whatsoever. Charlie hurt, let me start with you. Who do you think is getting more mileage off of this customer democrats or republicans . Charlie looking at history, republicans have always benefited a lot from this issue. I think republicans have become sort of the party of fundamental fairness, and they believe in constitutional principles. That sell to voters, republican conservative voters, that lights them up. I would argue that its one of the top two issues that got President Trump elected, two or three issues that got him elected, was the fact that you had that empty Supreme Court case. Seat. And it needed to be filled. Republicans wanted it filled with somebody like that was a constitutional originalist like antonin scalia. It brought them to the polls. A lot of people that otherwise wouldnt have come up to the polls. Melissa he show that hes willing to fight for it, to really get in there and fight. Charlie i remember somebody telling me before, he nevertrumpyard telling me before he got elected, you just watch, hes going to get in there and put his sister on the Supreme Court. But we have this list and other stuff. Of course, he has been more principled and adhered more to the principles of putting judges on the court who believe the constitution says what it means and means what it says. More than any other president we have ever had. Melissa just ago, we heard Dianne Feinstein a short time ago saying she didnt think a week was going to be enough to go into this investigation. She said a few things, and she said it was about his position on womens reproductive freedom. Right there, i mean, in many corners people think this is what we are actually fighting about, not about whether hes truthful. But where he stands on abortion. It energizes democrats as well to have this kind of fight. Jessica it does, it will benefit both sides. I think the polling shows about a 30 to 33 chance that the democrats can take the senate back, which is higher than the chances that President Trump would actually become President Trump. Thats got to be animating for a base that is already fired up, which is what Kevin Mccarthy was talking about there. I certainly think that it works for republicans to make that argument, democrats played around with it, they even let dr. Ford suffer for their own political gain. We put someone on, we nominated someone, eminently fair. Some were not as extreme as any connie barrett, and it still wasnt good enough for them. For the democrats. I think it will work to both, but if we go to the midterms with that seat sitting up in, you will have huge turnout on both sides. It will be a fight to the electoral death. Charlie but the problem with that is, if republicans screw this up and failed to get them on the court, you will have a lot of Republican Voters out there who are jessica i disagree with you on that. The reason is, on hannity last night, senator graham said if kavanaugh would fail on the floor vote, the president should renominate him. I think no matter what, if they nominate kavanaugh, because its been so motivating for the base thus far, because they feel like its a smear campaign. Every two years the election is about something. This year its about kavanaugh. For both parties. Thats what came down to. I dont think anyone anticipated at all that it would turn out this way. 2016, james comey, who we will talk about, made it all about the Hillary Clinton investigation. Russian emails, 2014. Other times we are running against obamacare. This is all about kavanaugh. Movement to motivates both sides. What i think was missing for republicans in this Midterm Election was a motivating factor, and this has done it.
