He said on friday, i dont know if i will have a perry mason moment where he sets back and said, i did it, youve got me. But the president said he was going to bring it up. He seemed to be talking from a perspective of, after the indictment of these 12 russian intelligence agents in the molar investigation, knew that there was some there. Today, he seemed to indicate that there wasnt any there. Hes developed an inroad with putin, and he does not want to spoil that with a question about whether or not he believes putin. It was interesting what putin said we had common entrance, better to focus on those points of convergence rather than divergence so that they could Work Together on some of the issues. We did not get very far on crimea and whether or not the president asked Vladimir Putin or told him to get out of crime crimea, putin seems to believe the invasion was perfectly legal. He said they held a referendum on it. He knows President Trumps position on it. Nuclear weapons is another big issue. No particular movement on that front other than for further dialogue. Critics will look at this and say, nothing came of this except that the president looked like he was cozying up to Vladimir Putin supporters of the president say it was probably a good thing when you consider how bad an adversarial relationship between the United States and russia could be. You do open lines of communication, you do open lines of dialogue, you do reduce the tension in the relationship. I think we are at the very beginning of this idea of reducing the tension in the relationship, but also, pretty clear that in this press conference, President Trump did not want to mockup any progress that he made by saying, i believe the intelligence agencies, or i believe putin. I do not know how well he trod that line, but it was pretty clear at the beginning there, sandra, he completely deflected on that question. Both World Leaders touting this as a success. When i stepped up from there, putin said we can call it a success. He went on to praise President Trump for bringing an attitude of dialogue. Trump reciprocated and said it went very well, our relationship has never been worse than it is now. And as he said as of four hours ago, that has changed. And now, john, a reaction in washington around the country, and around the world. Yeah, and i think that there are some parallels between this and at the kim jong un summit in singapore a month ago. With the president , at his level, was trying to break open some dialogue. He was trying to make some advances. At the administrative level, all of the screws are still being tightened on north korea. They have not let that go at all. I think we are seeing the same thing here. At the president ial level, President Trump tried to break open some avenues of dialogue, someways that the United States and russia could cooperate, and at the administered level, you still have all of the sanctions on russia. Because of the invasion of crimea. You so have the diplomats of the United States because of the nerve gas poisoning, and salsberry england. It is operating on two Different Levels there. But there are a lot of parallels in this and what happened a month ago in singapore. In that Briefing Room where things concluded a few minutes ago, bill, back to you in helsinki. Sandra, a remarkable and fascinating 40 minutes. We are waiting for this moment. We were building to this point. A reminder to our viewers at home and around the world, Vladimir Putin sits down with Chris Wallace within the hour. And then, later, President Trump will talk to sean hannity and tucker carlson. We look at competing visions of what happened here today. With me in helsinki, daniel hoffman, as well as my colleague, bret baier in washington, d. C. Gentlemen, lets start here, whatd you think about we just heard . Let me highlight two observations. First, Vladimir Putin wanted to make it clear that only russia and the United States could solve the major crisis of the day. Whether it is counterterrorism, arms control, syria, north korea, it is the United States and russia. He wanted to elevate russias status as a great power. In my view, beyond their throw, but that was certainly his goal. And in the issue of election meddling about the United States Intelligence Community has provided totally conclusive proof that the russians meddled in our election. That issue is not been put to rest by this press conference. President trump hinted that there might be a sign of our security working with the russian groups, i will tell you from my perspective as an intelligence officer, it is like inviting a criminal to help solve a crime that you know that they committed. You dont believe in that. I would argue in the long term, thats for our country and for the republican party, not a good thing. I think we should have been harder on the russians. It feels like a nba game where the last 30 seconds of the all that mattered. Im still trying to process the fast and furious timeouts, the block shots, and all the like. Lets not forget what happened first quarter. At the beginning, rather than making a very positive it was frank and businesslike, terms which suggest that there was a rough moments in there. They went back and forth and talk negativity. We want to turn the corner, but negative, negative. Dont forget President Trump said this is a very beginning of a long process. We are trying to answer the question, was there a assigning . Was there a breakthrough . No. It is the beginning of a long process. Let me get back to the last 30 seconds of the game. I feel like there were two key moments. Brett touched on one of them, do you believe the Intelligence Community, or do you believe putin . The president has been down this road before and had an opportunity to get behind his own Intelligence Community. Instead, he said, he tells me that but to be 16 was strong in saying no. Who am i to believe . It seems like it is going to backfire on him. At the second point, i lost my breath for a second when i hear Vladimir Putin say, as a kgb guy, i know little bit about intelligence and dossiers, the dirty dossier to folks. That open the door. I gave the president a little bit of cover in the moment because it was basically saying, remember those dirty fbi agents, remember fusion gps, he invoked that. That was remarkable. But it kind of backfired, perhaps because he comes back and says it well, youre talking about the dossier, do you have dirt on the president quite a mark of the first root lady sitting in the front row. I thought that was a stunning moment. Latimer prudent saying i hope that we can understand each other better and their marks. We are going to bring in brett now. What do you reflect on now, brett . What i consider a fascinating 4. If you want to call it an nba game, that was a championship one. There was a lot to digest. You had a reporter asked, did you want donald trump to win the election . And putin says yes, i wanted him to win because of his polities. President trump, do you hold him a countable for anything . His answer, we are all to blame. Remember that this is an american president standing in the summit in helsinki, with really an adversary that the u. S. Intelligence community believes is doing a lot of bad things. Clearly the president wants to score points and try to make the relationship that handles syria and other big issues of the day, but he wanted to find a way out of that answer, even though he was asked it numerous times. Separating difference between his election win and russian interference in the election is a difficult thing, rhetorically, for this president. A lot of times, it is about him. He clearly does not want the victory to be taken away from him or to suggest that he did not work harder than Hillary Clinton. He has said that repeatedly come up brett, that he won the election and in his view, fair and square. No meddling changed any boats across america. Here is what is going to be fascinating. Chris wallace will have a lot of stuff from this conference. We are hoping to be able to err this. We will see how timing works out. You will see all of it here on fox news channel. That will be fascinating, oneonone with the russian president. No doubt. President trump saying we are going to have to find a way to Work Together. We will see hope where we go after helsinki. Center has more now in new york. Lets bring an Editorial Board member of the wall street journal and a fox news contributor. Mary, he had joined us before and the press conference, and now you are after your take. I think it was a classic performance by Vladimir Putin, sandra. At times, flattering President Trump, and at other times, trying really to rewrite reality. And to manipulate and divert the worlds attention from what he himself has done. I was particularly concerned in the comments over syria, when he suggested that there are overlapping interests they are. In fact, he said we have a lot of mutual areas of cooperation. That is simply not the case. Russias objectives are very, very different in the middle east then where the net estate is. I think it was telling to hear President Trump talk about the humanitarian situation on the ground in syria and president president putin frame it in a strategic way. Putin is changing the facts on the ground through military intervention and the idea that he wants to cooperate with us there in ukraine or anywhere else is simply a fantasy. I think it was great that President Trump did not give ground on crimea, but i think that the president came off as wanting to have more meetings and going to putin and asking for putins help, when really, we should be in the position of having putin coming to us and asking us to ease up. They could have been worse, but again, you cannot believe anything that comes out of putins mouth. When he comes about shared interest and cooperation, you have to be suspicious. What would you say the headline that comes out of this meeting . I think, unfortunately, it is that president putin scored a great propaganda victory by standing up with President Trump on that stage, especially some of the conciliatory language that trump used toward him i think nothing was really achieved here beyond promising to meet again. The conciliatory language was a concern, center. President putin said moscow could cooperate in the Energy Market when it came to that as far as Major Nuclear powers. President prudent saying, russia and the United States bear special responsibility for maintaining International Security and President Trump followed by saying if we are going to involve many of the problems facing our world to find ways to cooperate in shared interest. So mary, they both made it very clear, this was the beginning of what will be ongoing talks between the two goat leaders. But sandra, shared interest in solving problems that Vladimir Putin has created by invading ukraine and by helping commit war crimes in syria, and also, by trying to shut off Energy Supplies in ukraine, which he has done a couple of times and building a pipeline in germany and Building Nuclear plants in egypt and elsewhere to give him control over regional Energy Supplies. Where is the evidence that we can trust putin to follow through on what he says . I really dont see any evidence of that, center. We will continue to watch how all of this plays out. Reaction is already pouring in. The wall street journal Editorial Board, thank you. Thank you for having me. A lot of reaction to that my former cia director sent out a moan to go on twitter. This is what he said this press conference about the detractors of President Trump, they will not be dissuaded at all. It rises to and exceeds, he writes about the threshold of high crimes and misdemeanors, it was nothing short of treasonous, not only were trumps comments imbecilic, he is republican patriots, where are you . That is from John Brenneman a moment ago. Back with dan and brett in a moment as we watch the scene outside the palace here in helsinki. John brennan has started the train against the president yet again. Somebody should have proofread john grennans tweets before he sent it. Have a a feeling he sat and rode it out and didnt think twice before he center. Hes done this before. Been very aggressive against this president. While i dont think it was the president s best performance, to take it to a level of treason and high crimes, hold your horses. This is a bit extreme, not a bit extreme, very extreme. John brenneman and sending out the streets in part, because he has tried at this conference and has done before to shift some focus to the fbi and the cia under barack obama and what was done with warrants and the like. He may have something to answer for. Lets look at it through things at well. He makes a point that the president whiffed on at this News Conference as brett pointed out on the top, youve been pointing out, he had multiple opportunities to call Vladimir Putin out for election interference. The best i see is that he said at one point, to the question, both have made mistakes, meaning the u. S. And russia. The most gentle criticism of putin, he has made mistakes. But then, later, as we have already pointed out, he told me that he did not interfere. Who am i to believe . He said, i thought it was a message that was best delivered in person. Gentlemen, and we will find out through sean and tuckers interview what that message was, perhaps. Gentlemen stand by, brett standby in washington. It is that 15 in the evening here in helsinki, finland, the lots are going to be out for at least five more hours. It is that time of the year and these two World Leaders are inside the president ial palace getting ready to say goodbye to finland in a matter of moments. Our coverage will continue. Dont leave, in a moment, much more analysis and a lot more reaction, not just here, but i moscow, and in washington, d. C. , and around the world. And sir we will do that. Deeply productive talks, and now, the day to respond and a lot of big interviews right here on this network, coming up. No question. That was stage three, i will call it, stage four is still to come and that is where Vladimir Putin and President Trump both talked to the fox news channel. So to our viewers, hang on, we have a lot more coming fox news alert, the landmark summit between President Trump and russian president latimer putin. Just wrapped up in helsinki. Most of them declaring the event a success when they stepped up to the lecterns. Each after meeting privately for more than two hours and participating in a working lunch alongside their associates advisors. Next up, their appointment. We will show you out live as it happens. This is between one. Adrienne elrod, clintons name came up a few times. Most of kennedy on the fox business network, and join us in the center seat, Brian Kilmeade and host of the nationally syndicated meddle on fox news radio i know you are ready to go. Brian first off on the body language, that was the happiest. He is not known to be a happy guy. He ever was. He walked out kind of happy, going out of his way to talk about a relationship that the cold war is over, looking to turn the page. I feel as though, we factor him into a political process. We were talking about the issues of the dossier, we were talking about the issues of his 12 members. He brought up the dossier. Brian most of the questions were about that. I think that Vladimir Putin got a lot. Donald trump will get as much out of it as we gain from it in the future weeks to come. Are we going to start working with each other or continuing to work against each other . You talk about turning the page, i am going to turn the page and start the show. Are you ready . Lets do it. Resident trump how this First Official summit with blood where prudent in helsinki. The men said they talk about a host of some including russian meddling. Something he promised he would address during a discussion. Watch it. During todays meeting i addressed directly with president prudent the issue of russian interference in our elections. I felt this was a message best delivered in person. We spent a great deal of time talking about it. And president putin may very well want to address it. And very strongly, because he feels very strongly about it and has an interesting idea. Chief White House Correspondent is live in helsinki in the room. Now we can go back and forth on what that was like. John, lets start with the tone and tenor of these two men when they came together. The first time that we saw them together wasnt homburg generated, literally a year ago at the g20 summit. There was a real chill in the room, there is no question about that. The two of them met on the sidelines. It was a handshake and a quick conversation. At the conference in vietnam back in november, it seemed to be a little bit warmer relationship. Today, i dont want to say that they came out looking like they were best buds, or even friends, but i think there was definitely a thaw and the relationship. Both of these leaders came into the summit that we were told by jon huntsman, dont call it a summit, it is only meeting. Whatever you want to call it, a summit or a meeting, they both came into it looking for something. That was to improve the relationship between the United States and russia. You heard Vladimir Putin saying in response to a question from one of my colleagues, did you want President Trump to win the election . He said yes, because he had talked about changing the u. S. Russian relationship eared this was the first time that the two had an opportunity to sit down in the room together for any appreciable amount of time in the past year. There have been a lot of things that have happened since then, it was clear that they both want to improve the relationship. Vladimir putin saying that they have points of divergence of the relationship, but they also have points where they come together. It is better to focus on those points of convergence than what separates the two countries. Stunning moments. Just stunning moments, john. So many of them. When the president said he was going to choose diplomacy over politics, that was an interesting backandforth. But he had, just based on you can do one of the other, he chooses one over the other. I think the way he phrased it, if i remember correctly was, he is not going to play politics and risk he is going to put aside politics to pursue peace, he does not want to potentially ruin piece for the sake of politics. And what we saw here today, i think, very much parallels what we saw in his meetings with kim jong un in north korea and singapore a month ago. The president ial level, he is all about establishing a relationship. He is all about dialing down the temperature. He is all about the possibility of deals for the future. At the administered level, we see a much different posture with north korea. We see a very tight sanction on north korea. He sees the white house putting pressure on nations in the region around the world, to put the screws to north korea to bring them to the table. The same here with russia. Use of the president and private and is expanded bilateral meetings with latimer pruden, talking about the possible, talking about the ways that the United States could get along. Talking about shared interest that they can Work Together on. And at the administered level, you still have those sanctions on russia over the annexation of crimea. He saw the diplomat its expelled on the nerve gas attack and salsberry anglin. The president very claimed the role of the peacemaker here. Trying to thaw the ice, and break off some chips on the rocky relationship between these two countries. Trying to put things in a smoother path. His critics are going to rip him for cozying up to russia. There is no question about that. We are already hearing that from john, brad, and nancy pelosi. He came into helsinki meeting summit, whatever you want to call it. Wanting to improve the relationship, and it looks like he is on the road to do that. Real quickly before i let you go, the point in the conversation where it turned the investigation, here at home, and to collusion by Robert Mueller. And president prudent saying, muller can interview the 12 military intel officers, they can come here. What to make of that, john . You can tell mike to mike you were in the room. I dont know much about the treaty, i do not have particular insights in the molar investigation, he has captives cards very close to his vest. He said that it would be reston investigators who would be the suspects. U. S. Law enforcement could sit in. That could be the points and conditions of that treaty. But it does not seem to be the sort of thing that mueller might want to take appeared it might be because mueller might not know the truth, i cannot speak to that. It was an interesting offer that the president that was something that might be worthwhile pursuing. I would be highly suspect about mueller wanted to get involved with that. It was very interesting. It seemed to be an attention getter at the moment and certainly cut people by surprise at least watching out here, wider outside the room. John roberts, great work as always, thank you very much. We appreciate it. Thanks harris. Her john theyre talking about how the president has talked about Vladimir Putin along the way. Here is the latest way that he described him, watch this. I called him a competitor and a good competitor he is. I think the word competitor is a complement. I think that we will be competing when you talk about the pipeline. I am not sure necessarily that it is in the best interests of germany or not, but that was a decision that they made. We will be competing, as you know, the United States is now or soon will be, but i think it actually is right now, the largest in the oil and gas world. So, we are going to be solving and competing in the pipeline. I think we will compete successfully. He will meet on the couch with us today. The president is calling Brian Kilmeade tina competitor. He has. He also said i have a lot of foes. That was the controversial statement he made. We are competitors, sometimes we can be a foe when it comes to trade. I think it is no doubt about it. Their competitors. The question is, Vladimir Putin went out of his way to say the cold war is over. President trump is right to say with president obama and president bush that the cold war is over. I have no problem with that. Whatever is going to focus on, the president not condemning him for the 12 officials in the defense department. They say that they meddled in the election. I want to grab the street by senator graham. There was a missed opportunity by President Trump to hold russia accountable for 2016 meddling and deliver a strong warning regarding the future. He said, finally, i would check the soccer bar for a listening device that president prudent gave to President Trump. A soccer ball, heres what i would say about all this. You have to view he is saying outside of the room. As a p. R. Campaign, i would think, by the president s attend a a message to Vladimir Putin, you dont know what is happening inside the room. You dont know how tough he was there. You mean when they met privately. Yeah. It was out of the room, but it was a different room. You dont know what he said there. Again, it is words versus actions. You want to see what he does. I know everybody is going to make a big deal out of the idea that if they feel that he was too soft in that meeting. That was a small piece of the puzzle. We are going to get more on, but before we head to the breakdown, we want to hear from everybody. I think this holding is curious because i want to hear what the president s motivation is. I hope that it was tough on him in the room, i hope he was tough as he has been with the leaders of canada and france and the u. K. He is very good when his anger is focused, and there is something structurally that he wants to extract from it. We actually saw that with nato. He wants other countries to contribute more of their gdp to the defense alliance. That is fine peer to what we want from russia . I dont think it is appropriate to please them. I think from the governments to their athletics corrupt when we come back from the break. I will come back to you. Right now, be sure to keep it right here. Chris wallace will sit down oneonone with Vladimir Putin for an exclusive interview. Chris will get the russian president s take on his meeting with President Trump. And what it all means going forward. Some of the things they talk about today, i know will catch us by surprise. To landmark meeting with russian leader Vladimir Putin. What lawmakers are now saying about the president S Performance and, how does the president handle demands to ask putin to extradite those 12 russian officials, special Counsel Robert Mueller has indicted. They have an on friday. For election lection meddling, we will talk about all of it. Stay close. With an ingredient originally discovered. In jellyfish. In clinical trials, prevagen has been shown to improve shortterm memory. Prevagen. Healthier brain. Better life. No mathere are over 10,000 allstate agents riding sweep. Call one today. Are you in good hands . President trumps summit with russian president vladimir prudent coming just days after special Counsel Robert Mueller indicted 12 russian Intelligence Officers for attempting to meddle in the 2016 president ial election. Packing dnc emails, calling some to call for the commander in chief to request that president prudent turnover those and other indicted russians to the United States. President prudent today saying that the american president did bring up the issue during their closeddoor meeting, and that he will look into it. Prior to todays summit with republican congressman trey gowdy, he said it should be a priority. Your first request of Vladimir Putin needs to be, tell us which airport we can pick up the 25 russians that tried to interfere with the final models of our democracy. The National Security advisor, john bolton, advised that pressing the russian president on the issue would be just a waste of time. I think it is pretty silly for the president to demand something that he cant get legally. This is a very serious matter. At the russians take the position, you can like it or not like it came at their constitution to extradite russian citizens. I think, for the president to demand something that isnt going to have it put the in a weak position. Adrian, what you think about that . To demand something that he is not going to do, it is in their constitution, it doesnt look weak . I never thought i would agree with trey gowdy on something, but i could not agree with him more. Donald trump was on a National Stage in front of the International Community with Vladimir Putin that he believes prudent over our entire Intelligence Community over what happened in terms with the russian hacking in our election process. That is unbelievable. That change the entire dynamic of our relationship with russia, it changes the entire dynamic of where we are on a national stag stage. Putin is a trained kgb officer. Let us not forget, he knows exactly how to play trumpet. And you knows exactly what he is doing. But forget that this is trump by the way. This is an american president who stood up on a National Stage, on an entire International Community and basically said, hey, i will be the intelligence committees, i will be this intelligence that we have the United States, proving that russia influence our election. Forget it. Thats absolutely unbelievable. Do you believe that he actually believes Vladimir Putin or is he saying that in this setting . I dont think theres any way he can believe him. It is right there. It is obvious. He is corrupt, but the question is, where do we go from here . Perhaps the president is looking at a way of maximizing this moment and creating more prosperity. Russias a comedy absolutely sucks. Not a mere prudent once the sanctions lifted. This whole thing is propped up by legionnaires who have enriched themselves off Russian Energy and the very few sectors that they have on operating positively. They want more money, they want to stick it back on. The only way that russia can screw without us is by hacking, by putting 25 people in a room, it is the last stand that theyve got. I would like to see the president be more forceful. I would like the president to lay out a strategy for what the United States gets in this and how we benefit. I would add this. The president of the United States, even though it drives people crazy, every time you bring up the russian hacking the election, he looks as it as being illegitimate as a president. If he goes around as if he were meddling, you would be, i told you you were meddling. George bush was asked every day about his vote in florida and his first years in office. Even bush would say, enough already, i am the president. Every time you bring up the problem he had with florida, youre making me look illegitimate. It still waited for years before people some people deserved that he need be present speak out that is very interesting point. We need to move the ball. Theyre going to mess with us again. So are china and all of these other countries that want to mess with us. Why are we talking about cybersecurity . We are caught up in a history on it and some of the most dramatic personality on both sides. Why arent we talking about Practical Solutions like cybersecurity. If we are so curious as to how russia compromised or tried to compromise and influence election, why didnt the fbi take control of those servers . We have a lot more to discuss, clearly. But we have to have a quick break. In the meantime, democrats were howling for the president to cancel his summit with putin. Did he make the right choice . Youre going to debate that when we come back. Welcome to tide pods talk with gronk. Im gronk im big and awesome, but this guy is little, can it really clean . Heck yeah it can its concentrated detergent plus stain fighters plus odor flighers that fight for clean. Boom even this entire bottle cant beat tide pods. And now a word from future gronk ugh. Tide pods. If its clean, its got to be tide. Nothing could be easier politically than to refuse to meet, to refuse to engage, but that would not accomplish anything. As president , i cannot make decisions on Foreign Policy in a futile effort to appease partisan critics or the media, or democrats who want to do nothing but resist and obstruct. President trump talking the need for diplomacy after his summit with president prudent. Democrats calling up president to cancel the summit after Robert Mueller indicted 12 russians. Just hours before the summit, Hillary Clinton tweeted great world cup. Like she watched. Do you know which team you play for . Chuck schumer tweeting, from President Trumps meet with expressing that, it would be terrible for the security of our election system. John ratcliffe two suggest that democrats are politically motivated. Watch. Someone needs to remind senator schumer that the party of the minority does not get to set and make Foreign Policy decisions. In the real reason that senator schumer and other democrats dont want donald trump to sit down with Vladimir Putin, tomorrow is the same reason they dont want donald trump to sit down with kim jong un last month. They are afraid that he will succeed. Nancy pelosi tweeting donald trump has the opportunity to stand up to prudent today, less than 72 hours after james indicted 12 russians officials for meddling in the election. Do you stand with nancy . Absolutely i do. A lot of republicans dont feel that donald trump should have this meeting as well, especially in light of the mueller indictment that came out less than 100 hours from this meeting that took place. Again, donald trump has the opportunity to go on the world stage and condemn Vladimir Putin for what he and the russians allowed to happen on our elections. And by the way, i dont care if you are democrat or republican setting on the state can with the the president of the United States did not condemn russia and putin for behavior, and believe him over our intelligence committee. Should there have been a reset button . Is that the right way to complot, confront Vladimir Putin . If this is we didnt have i would be be engaging or no . For him to say that was the appropriate response, if you stood up there and said listen, we are going to rain hellfire all over your economy if you continue with this nonsense. I think if he said something that was very forceful that was taken very seriously, and the first words out of his mouth were we absolutely condemn on behalf of the United States government, i condemn what you and the russians did to our democracy, the fact that you influence our democracy to the detriment of potentially Hillary Clinton, and we will not have diplomats relationship in any way, shape and form. You never do this again. I want to ask you some the pacificare. The timing of the new indictmen indictment, is very curious. It almost seems to be from the Adjustment Department and the Intelligence Community. Forcing the president s narrative. Do you think there was something curious about that . Timing matters. I have no idea why we are getting this report, it did not happen with that situation, it is bizarre. However, i think it is helping the president. Now, instead of saying my opinion versus your opinion, it is pretty hard core stuff. I will say this, he had that information out of the house, no one located. He even told the page in which he listed all 12 of those people, and they never mentioned the rnc. More outnumbered in a moment. You stay right here. With less of the sugar you dont. Ill take that.
