President s of both parties have done so in similar situations. On several occasions, Supreme Court nominees were withdrawn because they did not have enough support. One was even withdrawn after a failed culture vote. Senators voted twice in the past hour to see if they could get past the democratic filibuster. At the votes were 5545 so the filibuster held up. Unusual votes in the senate with lawmakers doing it from their desk rather than Milling Around on the senate floor. Chuck grassley sounded noticeably irritated. It youve got press forward, dont you, even though you know the effort is doomed to fail. You know that hell be confirmed in you know in your hearts that he deserves to be confirmed. Thats why this is especially sad state of affairs. Much of the anger we are hearing from democrats is over judge Merrick Garland who is not made by president obama last year and never received consideration for the Supreme Court. Weve heard some folks say this is a stolen seat, it should belong to judge garland and many believe that neil gorsuch is being punished as payback. This effort to fill the courts of this nation with republican appointments, even at the expense of violating some traditions that are over 100 years old has brought us to this moment. If someones on the Nuclear Option was used by senator mcconnell and he stopped Merrick Garland, what were facing today today is to follow. Chuck schumer offered a measure to try to postpone consideration of judge gorsuchs nomination until after the easter recess, that failed. We believe Mitch Mcconnell is going to take that step because he has promised that judge gorsuch will be confirmed tomorrow night. Harris thank you very much. Listening to Mitch Mcconnell, what he said that this is more about the man who nominated than about the man himself, we would say that about Merrick Garland too. You mentioned harry reid, we have Mitch Mcconnell, this is the last in a long strain on each side of the aisle of changing senate rules depending on whos in power. Someday, democrats will be back in the white house and have control of the senate. This is about each party changing the rules to suit them and it always comes back to bite you.
