Today. It is not moral. It is not acceptable. And it is not sustainable that the top one tenth of 1 now owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 . Or that the top 1 in recent years has earned 85 . Of all new income. That is unacceptable. That must change. This election is about remembering where we were seven and a half years ago when president obama came into office and eight years of republican trickledown economics. The republicans want us to forget that as a result of the greed, recklessness, and illegal behavior on wall street, our economy was in the worst economic down turn since the great depression. That is where we were. That is where we were. Some 800,000 people a month were losing their jobs. 800,000 people. We were running up a recordbreaking deficit of 1. 4 trillion and by the way, the worlds Financial System was on the verge of collapse. That is where we were with president obama came into office. Well, weve come a long way in the last seven and a half years and i thank president obama and Vice President biden. I thank them for their leadership in pulling us out of terrible recession. Yes, we have made progress but i think we can all agree that much, much more needs to be done. This election is about which candidate understands the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions. Not just fear mongering. Not just name calling. We need leadership in this country which will improve the lives of working families, the children, the elderly, the sick and the poor. We need leadership when brings our people together and makes us stronger, not leadership which insults latinos and mexicans, insults muslims and women, African Americans, and seeks to divide us up. By these measures, any objective observer will conclude that based on her ideas and her leadership, Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States. The choice this election, this election this election is about a single mother i saw in nevada who with tears in her eyes told me she was scared to death about the future because she and her daughter were not making it on the 10. 45 an hour she was earning. This election is about that woman, and the millions of other workers in this country who are struggling to survive on totally inadequate wages. Hillary clinton understands if someone in their country works 40 hours a week, that person should not be living in poverty. She understands we must raise the minimum wage to a living wage. And shes determined to create millions of new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, our roads, bridges, Water Systems and waste water plants. But her opponent, donald trump, well, he has a very different point of view. He does not support raising the federal minimum wage of seven and a quarter an hour, a starvation wage. While trump believes in huge tax breaks, huge tax breaks for millionaires, he believes that the states should have the right to lower the minimum wage below seven and a quarter. Brothers and sisters this election is about overturning citizens united. Citizens united is one of the Worst Supreme Court decisions in the history of our country. That decision allows the wealthiest people in america like the billionaire kokh broth brothers who spend hundreds of millions of dollars buying elections and in the process, undermine american democracy. Hillary clinton will nominate justices to the Supreme Court who are prepared to over turn citizens united. And end the Movement Toward anarchy we are seeing in this country. Our Supreme Court appointments will also defend a womans right to choose workers rights, the rights of the lgbt community, the needs of minorities that immigrants and the governments ability to protect our environment. If you dont believe that this election isnt booked, if you think you can sit it out, take a moment to think about the Supreme Court justices that donald trump will nominate. And what that would mean to civil liberties, equal rights, and the future of our country. This election is about the thousands of young people i have met all over this country the thousands that i have met who left college deeply in debt and tragically, many others who cannot afford to go to college. During the primary campaign, secretary clinton and i both focused on this issue but with somewhat different approaches. Recently, however, we have come together on a proposal that will revolutionize Higher Education in america. It will guarantee that the children of any family in this country with an annual income of 125,000 a year or less, 83 of our population will be able to go to a Public College or University Tuition free. That proposal also substantially reduces student debt. This election is about Climate Change, the great Environmental Crisis facing our planet. And the need to leave this world in a way that is healthy and habitable for our children and future generations. Hillary clinton is listening to the scientists who tell us that unless we act boldly to transform our Energy Systems there will be more drought, more floods, our acid in the sea level. She understands we can create hundreds of thousands of jobs transforming our energy system. Donald trump . Well, like most americans, he chooses to reject science. He believes Climate Change is a hoax, no need to address it. Hillary clinton understands a president s job is to worry about future generations, not the profits of the fossil fuel industry. This campaign is about moving the United States towards universal health care. And reducing the number of people who are uninsured and under insured. Hillary clinton wants to see that all americans have the right to choose a public option in their health care exchange. She believes anyone 55 or older should be able to opt in to medicare. And she wants to see millions more americans gain access to primary health care, dental care, Mental Health counselling, lowcost prescription drugs through a major expansion of Community Health centers. And what is Donald Trumps position on health care . Well, no surprise there, same old, same old republican contest for working families. He wants to abolish the Affordable Care act, throw 20 Million People off of health insurance. And cut medicaid for lowerincome americans. Hillary clinton understands that millions of seniors, disabled vets and others are struggling with the outrageously high cost of prescription drugs. And the fact that americans pay the highest prices in the world for the medicine we use. She knows that medicare must negotiate drug prices with the pharmaceutical industry. And that Drug Companies should not with making billions in profits when one in five americans are unable to afford the medicine they need. The greed of the Trump Companies must end. This election is about the leadership we need to pass comprehensive Immigration Reform and repair a broken criminal justice system. Its about making sure that young people in this country are in good schools, and in good b jobs not rotting in jail cells. Hillary clinton understands that we have to invest in education and jobs for our young people, not more jails or incarcerations. In these stressful times for our country, this election must be about bringing our people together, not dividing us up. While donald trump is busy insulting one group after another, Hillary Clinton understands that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Yes, weve become stronger when blacks and whites, latino, asian american, native american, when all of us stand together. Yes, we become stronger when young and old, native american fight together to be the country we know we can become. Its no secret that Hillary Clinton and i disagree on a number of issues. That is what this campaign has been about. That is what democracy is about. Im happy to tell you if the Democratic Platform Committee there was a significant coming together between two campaigns and weve produced by far the most progressive platt form in the history of the Democratic Party. Among many other strong pro visions, the Democratic Party calls for breaking up the major Financial Institutions on wall street. And the passage of a 21 century flat act. And calls for strong opposition to jobkilling trade agreements. Our jobs weve got to make sure that tpp does not get to the floor of the congress in the lame duck session. Our job is to see that strong democratic platform implemented by a democraticcontrolled senate, by a democratic house, and a Hillary Clinton presidency. And i am going to do all that i can to make that happen. I have known Hillary Clinton for 25 years. I remember her as you do, as a great first lady who broke precedent in terms of the role that a first lady was supposed to play as she helped plan the fight for universal health care. I served with her in the United States senate, and know her as a fierce advocate for the rights of children, for women, and for the disabled. It may be great for her but we have millions of americans out of the labor force and in poverty. Millions more americans on food stamps. Weve doubled National Debt and internationally, i mean, every area of the world obama has been involved in, things have gotten worse. He forgot that part. Almost all of that happened under barack obama and the divisions, the racial divisions, the divisions we have in america are worse than ever before because of the divisive politics of president , Hillary Clinton, and what youre seeing at the democratic convention. This is not about all americans. Well, you know, i just listened to what you had on and watched her, listened to her say gee, i dont really follow the emails like an innocent lamb, like she doesnt follow the emails. She follows them more closely than you do, sean, you want to know the truth . She lies about everything. Even the way she says gee, i dont follow the emails its so important and she doesnt follow them. Just doesnt happen to be up on the subject. Shes just a liar. Shes been a liar from day one, for many, many years and people are just wise to her now, i think. The problem is that Bernie Sanders lost his energy and his drive. What is your reaction to that . Well, she was the arm of hillary. She worked for hillary essentially and waits a big rigged system. Im the first to use that erm, bernie never had a chance. Hillary knew everything that was going on, probably saw most of the emails at some point, bernie, i think hes tired and exhausted an giving up. I think bernie is giving up. The sad thing if he didnt give up, he would have left a legacy. He did all of that work for nothing. But put this tim kaine in. He wants to allow thousands of more refugees to come in from syria. Hes terrible on trade deals, he wants to approve every trade deal you can have which are horrible for the American Worker and theyre a disaster. Its like the worst person she could have chosen. It shows bad judgment. From her standpoint he would be the worst because bernie had all of the votes, now, theyre going against her. It just shows you shes got bad judgment. Then, she said gee, whiz, i havent been following the email, every hour of every day, shes following those emails. If you look at these emails with the dnc, i argue as collusion, youre right. Very early on, you said the system was rigged, the system was corrupt and Bernie Sanders was being treated unfairly. Now, we know for a fact he was. If you look, at these emails there is a racial tinge to it when they make fun of a womans name who appears to be African American then, youve got an antigay slur. These are always the allegations democrats seem to make against republicans and by the way they also attack women and call women names. They say the republicans are this way but this kind of proves theyre the very thing theyre quote, critical of republicans about. Your reaction to that . Well, lets put it this way. You understand this maybe better than anybody. If that ever happened to me, if there were donald trump emails instead of dnc emails it would have been front page in every paper in this country and probably beyond, okay . Now, theyre trying to slough it off. It just showed you how well we did in cleveland. I knew it. We had a great convention. And cleveland was great. Ohio was great. There was no problem. The police did a fantastic job. The police chief and secret service were incredible there. But we didnt have many protests. You know . We really didnt because people like what im saying. Theyre going wild in philadelphia from what im hearing. Well, especially the Bernie Sanders supporters. I want to go to one specific email i thought was particularly offensive. This had to do when the prima primaries were coming up in kentucky and west virginia. You had an official say i dont think the voters there know he is juiceish. So it assumes a lot of things. Democratic voters are bigots and assumes Southern Baptists are bigots and i want to get your reaction to that. They also said if you go further that he was an atheist. And there was a conspiracy. I will tell you what they have done to him was unfair. And im surprised he has fallen in line. Very bad for his legacy. He did a good job until the last few days and now, hes just falling. I think hes exhausted and hes had it. He wants to go home and go to sleep. What do you think, too . There are other revelations here how reporters would take their marching orders directly from the dnc. You have a political reporter that would send the copy before sending it to his editor. The revelations about feeding questions to cnn and nbc news and trying to negotiate more favorable treatment and convincing them they shouldnt say the system is rigged now, it turns out we know it was rigged. Im going through it now and i have problems with cnn and its unfair and unsided. Look at 60 minutes with governor mike pence last week, they did it this week. It was such a difference in terms of the tone of the questions and difficulty of the question. We did great, but they were nasty questions where was with hillary it was like, and tim, it was a joke, the questions, it was so easy. Such a difference. You compare what we were asked with what they were asked. It was so different and very unfair. But a lot of people are commenting on it. Its so unfair. You know, youve been saying that, too. Youve been saying the system is rigged and youve been saying bernie is pretty much getting screwed and theyre colluding and that turned out to be true. They released false information about you they were going to give to routers. This is a high level of deception within our media ranks i think is fairly unprecedented and even Susan Sarandon said a lot of this seems to be worse than water gate. Maybe shell vote for me. Very seen it. They send false information out about me all the time. Were constant hi being fed out from whenever its coming from, i assume them, this false information and theyll call and well have to go through hell to show its not, you know, that its totally false. They tried to make a big deal about two lines. They dont mention joe biden has a plagarist. We see more chaos here than days in cleveland, for sure. What do you think of the line up here . You see the association with radical groups. Well, i think its a boring line up. We have tremendous ratings. My final night we blew it out. When i made the final speech. The haters said it was well delivered but dark. Waits very hopeful and about hope. Because what is going to happen is that were going to fix the problem. I explained what the problem, theyre shooting our policemen. Were going to, its really a speech of hope. And i think were going to do well. I cant cant see anyone wanting four more years of obama. You saw energy and i thought you saw enthusiasm. I thought our nominee did a phenomenal speech that spoke into the very heart of where the American Peoples concerns lie today. And i mean, focusing on security abroad, law order at home, and dealing with the issues in the way he has, i think sparked enthusiasm. And really, all over america. He and i hit the road together, clouds are overwhelming and were going to work our hearts out to bring out a great victory for the American People. What do you make of the chaos and confusion going on here . Debbie Wasserman Schultz is out. She got booed by the florida delegation. Bernie sanders said to support hillary. And what do you make of the chaos and all going on here . We watched a little bit of it. There was so much talk about division and the Republican National convention. There was a lot of healthy debate. I think what were witnessing there at the Democratic National convention is a party divided. And a party that doesnt really have a message that is resonating with the American People and i think the friction that is already evident there is probably going to be evident all week long. And i hope as the American People sense the unity of the party, our determination to stand up for issues American People want us to address at home and see this is a choice between real change in washington, d. C. And a status quo that finds itself arguing with itself throughout the end of the week. What do you think of the corruption . The collusion . Donald trump was one of the first people to say theyre being unfair to Bernie Sanders. It turns out to be true. And importantly, we see racist statements and antisemitic statements and horrible names being called to women. And im thinking if this were the rnc convention, it would be the biggest media story and especially their influence with the media. What is your reaction to this information . Well, i served with Bernie Sanders in congress for six years, hes a, you know, as i used to say hes the nicest socialist i ever met, sean. But we disagree on most things. I know hes very sincere about his beliefs and my heart goes out to him, realizing his National Party was working against him behind the scenes. If anything, when you watch the republican primary as wide open as it was, it was obvious that the Republican National party and our chairman kept a level playing field. And im awful proud. You were friends with him, what do you think of him falling on the sword . And the reaction of the supporters tonight . I understand their frustration. You know . I found myself in the minority in my own party at times battling against big spenders in my own party on capitol hill when i was in washington. That is when you and i first got to know each other. But to find themselves shut out, to look at a ticket that doesnt give voice to what millions aligned them self in the party and ticket, i think its frustrating to them. And i understand that. Look. Again, that is their party. And they can cry if they want to as the song writer said. I think our party is evidence of a level playing field. We came together and i think that youre seeing these national polls. We know that didnt happen. So, my point is, i think the fact that the dnc the emails were dissing bernie, thats one thing, and it should have been expected.
