Schools has been barred since brown, but in too many of our school districts, significant divisions persist and segregation has reoccurred. Is that an america you recognize in more from the attorney generals commencement speech coming up. And history in the making. And California Chrome did it California Chrome captured the second leg of the triple crown. The horse nobody wanted on the cusp of greatness. Could he get the triple crown . Fox and friends begins right now. Hey, everybody. Good morning. Are you guys sore today . Totally sore. We all walked in like old men this morning. Hey, tucker, how are you . I had my russian masseuse fix me up. I want to say welcome to sophia. She was just literally born a few minutes ago. I love when babies were born. I love a great Marriage Story c. Coming up later on the show, well dispel major myths about divorce. When you read this, its amazing we have been lied to so many years about marriage. Happy wife, happy life. Exactly. Thats coming up, but first to your sunday morning headlines. Starting with a fox news alert, 70 people now dead after a weekend of fighting in benghazi, libya. A rogue military general led libyan troops in the deadly attack against islamist militants in and around the city. The Libyan Government saying they didnt order the attack. They are calling it a coup. This is the latest in the string of attacks in benghazi including the one back in 2012 where four americans were murdered. And evacuees in Southern California are returning home as firefighters fight off flareups and hot spots. Calmer winds helped firefighters gain control of the areas biggest fire. So far 24,000 acres burned in and around san diego. One person was killed and one person is facing arson charges accused of adding brush to small fires near oceanside. The third case of the deadly mers virus showing up inside the United States. For the first time, it was passed between two people inside the United States borders. The newest case is a man from illinois who had contact with the nations first mers case. A man from indiana who got the virus in saudi arabia. Health officials are testing anyone who came in contact with the illinois man. The respiratory disease has symptoms like ma knopneumonia a fever. California chrome has done it again. California chrome has won the chestnut colt now one step closer to achieving a triple crown after taking first in the Kentucky Derby. California chrome heads to the Belmont Stakes in three weeks. If he can win that race, California Chrome will be the first horse to sweep all three since 1978. Weve been here before. Zero to hero. I love it. Speaking of heroes, janice dean is in the house near feet from us. Rick could not get out of bed this morning. The race yesterday. But he killed it. I was amazed by his performance yesterday. He was an animal. Right. Best time out of all the anchors, hes off resting today. He needs a couple weeks off. Well look at your weather across the east. Not too bad. Mainly clear skies and temperatures around average for this time of the year. We have some showers pushing across the midsouth and upper midwest. And then we have a system pushing into the northwest which is kind of good news because its breaking down that ridge of High Pressure that brought us record highs across Southern California and those gusty santa ana winds. So thats good news, but we are still going to see the potential for showers and thunderstorms over the northwest and then pushing into the Northern Plains. Now, talking about our temperatures, on average for most folks, but across the plain states well go up a few degrees as we head into the new workweek. Taking a look at dallas, 88. By tuesday, kansas city, 86. Today, 72. And amarillo, 101. So its going to be hot. Wildfire danger. The wildfire danger is spreading eastward, so its not in Southern California anymore but pushing across the four corners and into the Southern Plains where well see the relative humidity go down. The temperatures go up. And those wind gusts. But across Southern California, great news for the firefighters. The temperatures have decreased significantly. The winds are lighter and the relative humidity is coming up. So thats awesome news for all of those folks battling the wildfires across california. Well continue to keep you up to date. Now back to the couch with anna, clayton and tucker. Thank you. A battle continues to unfold in washington. The white house coming out swinging this morning against critics who said robert pencil. The secretary of health at the v. A. , who was basically shown the door, they are saying he wasnt just shown the door, he was kicked out and gone. And dont mind the press releases that came out last summer showing he was set to retire anyway. Thats so unbelievable. He is gone. We kicked him out. Heres the white house chief of staff dennis mcdunna to say really he was fired. Quote, there is no question that this is a termination of his job there was there before he was planning to go. You heard what secretary shinseki said yesterday which is that hes mad as hell and the president is madder than hell and ive got the scars to prove it given briefing that is ive given the president and the conversations that he and shinseki have had. We showed a portion of it from 2013 that said he was set to resign anyway. He would be retiring anyway. So did they not think we would figure this out . Is this phony accountability . Is this window dressing . Does it pass the smell test . It is window dressing. If you look at the beginning part of his quote with dennis mcdunna, he said, he was set to retire at tend of this month, but he was forced out. So he was forced to retire before the end of the month. It is window dressing. It is designed to make all the dumb people out there believed that something is being done. Taking it seriously, chip tugging, but no one gets punished or indicted. No investigation has been put into these crimes hes committed. I bet hell have a Retirement Party paid for by you and this is probably the only person forced to retire a week early. Jesse jane duff says the corruption is deep and probably doesnt stop there. Listen. Hes mad as hell because he was exposed. Thats why hes mad. Hes not mad over this because he would have reacted a year ago when we had five dead at dorne medical facility in south carolina. Hes not leading the organization, the organization is leading him. Those executives are rewarded for having low numbers and appointments and u. S. Backlog numbers. So the u. S. Taught them to become fraudulent and hide their records. As long as youre giving bonuses, thats why these people are going to continue to be corrupt so secretary shinseki was unaware of it that hes incompetent or if hes part of it and was aware of it, thats not just unethical treatment of the veterans, its criminal. Absolutely. So you may think america has a lot of problems, the economy is terrible, of course, the v. A. System is collapsing, obamacare is putting strains on the country we cant anticipate at this point, and according to eric holder, the attorney general, the real problem is the same as 60 years ago, and thats white racism. This is from the commencement state speech he gave yesterday at the university of maryland. Segregation has been barred in many of the school districts, but in many of the districts segregation has reoccurred, including zero Tolerance School discipline practices that while wellintentioned and aimed to promote School Safety, affect black males at three times higher than their peers. That was attorney general eric holder yesterday. Many protests have erupted on campus like with Condoleezza Rice and then she turned it down saying i wont come to rutgers university. But if you look back at the two speeches here, you look at what attorney general eric holder said yesterday about his version of america. Then back to Condoleezza Rice in 2012 at the rnc and what an uplifting address she gave there. Take a listen. And on a personal note, a little girl grows up in birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cant take her to a Movie Theater or to a restaurant, but they have her absolutely convinced that even if she cant have a hamburger at the lunch counter, she could be president of the United States if she wanted to be, and she becomes the secretary of state. Yes, yes, yes, america has a way of making the impossible seem inevitable in retrospect, but we know it was never inevitable. It took leadership, and it took courage, and it took belief in our values. So Condoleezza Rice speaking in a very uplifting fashion there. And eric holder didnt want to do that, why didnt he have some sort of call to action instead rather than hammering down on zero tolerance policies and calling those racist. Why didnt he call for africanamerican fathers to be fathers and not be baby daddies and take care of their kids and teach them to be good stewards in the community. Why didnt he talk about that instead . Whats so striking between the two is one acknowledges reality and the other doesnt. There are a lot of problems in america, including racial problems, but its been so much better in the last 60 years. This is the 60th year of the brown decision in schools. Its a more tolerant country than it was. And thats good news. You would never know that by listening to eric holder who has a vested interest in telling you and his constituents that america is the same country it was in 1954. It was delusional and makes Race Relations worse, which is upsetting. When you pale in comparison this happening, let us know what you think about this. Coming up, continuing to follow the v. A. Scandal. What Legal Operations do the veterans and their families have . Well break that down, next. And a New Discovery larger than life. What was that . A tyrannasaurus. I dont think so. Welcome back to fox and friends. 40 of the nations veterans may have lost their lives waiting for treatment from the v. A. And the nations number two guy is an escape goat because he retired a week early. Now attorney and commander john welch is here. Thank you and welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me. Welcome. Its a dicy area to kind of walk through some of the Legal Options for the family. First of all, before we get to the Legal Options, will nip go to jail for this . Will anyone be held accountable for the deaths of these veterans . Theoretically they should be. If the u. S. Attorney will prosecute or department of justice will prosecute, and if they can establish negligent, homicide or even not to mention the fact that some of the records were doctored, it is possible for them to go to jail. But again it will be discretionary by the department of justice. So we can break down two of the possible options here. Two of the possible Legal Options. So to orchestrate the federal tort claims act, how can families use that to get restitution or otherwise . Well, the federal tort claims act is a private action. They dont need to get involved in the department of justice. What they have to do is within two years of the malpractice or the failure to diagnose or to death is to go ahead and present a claim to the v. A. Regional council. If that claim is denied, and they have to do it within two years, if the claim is denied, you have six months to file a suit in the Federal District court. And that can be done, that gets the v. A. Out of it. The department of justice or the u. S. Attorney will actually defend the suit. One of the good things about that is the v. A. Does get out of it, and youll find that the u. S. Attorneys will get tired very fast of having to defend these types of suits. And kickry is the twoyear statue of limitations. Two years on the death of losing a Family Member. Some of the areas we can specifically talk about, failure to diagnose, you mixed that. Medical malpractice and wrongful death. So those are all actionable . They are. The other thing, clayton, is they go outside the statue of limitations. There is a provision under the federal code where they can make a different type of claim called a sectional 51 claim to the v. A. , but the kicker with that is it will be decided by the v. A. And the appellate process is done within the v. A. System rather than the federal court system. They were waiting for doctors but were cooking the books the whole time and we are never diagnose nod and never got in t make a claim that tease top families would have . I would think so. Yes, sir. I would urge them to seek legal advice. Seek legal advice. One of the other areas is legal compensation that they can target. What would happen there under disability compensation . Generally it goes to the v. A. And is reviewed just like a disability claim. If that claim is turned down, they can appeal to the court of appeals for veterans claims. But unfortunately that gets you right into the normal v. A. Backlog and youre not having the case reviewed necessarily by attorneys, youre having the case reviewed by claims process so processors. Thank you for waking up with us early to educate me. Thank you so much. Have a good day now. Thank you. Coming up on the show, bring back the firing squad. One lawmaker calling for a change after problems with lethal injection. His argument for a surefire execution, straight ahead. And is Higher Education worth the high price . Anna . Hey, there. Good morning. 18,000 a year is how much college will cost you. And a new labor statistic shows more High School Graduates are now choosing work over Higher Education. Is College Really Worth it . And what are some alternatives . Joining us is ryan porter author of make your own lunch and author of raise your own flag. I was reading this and over 40,000 for a private college. So the numbers are through the roof. Is that why High Schoolers are saying, im not going to do this anymore . Yes. So to get things out of the way, im not anticollege. I think a ton of people need to go to college, but i also think a ton of people dont need to go to college for the type of work they are choosing. The Value Proposition for 2014 is weakening, right . Student debt is just out of control. And the marketplace has changed in such a way that people can actually go from high school with the right experience into the workforce and live great successful, meaningful lives. Rather than going to college and not knowing what to do and waste money changing majors multiple times, go on a trip and find yourself like you did . Talk about that. When i was 21 years old, i came up with what oxford dictionary refers to the perfect plan. I dropped out of college and quit my job at the Grocery Store and moved to japan and taught english for a year. When i was there, i started to meet really interesting people that did things nobody talks about. Scuba diving instructors and people working on english farms. And i was talking to these people and thinking, people are having great experiences and why arent people speaking about this at home . You say its not too good to be true and there are tips to know. First one, start a business. Lets rewind really quickly. Anybody under the age of 25, their goal should be to become as employable as possible. And for some people thats going to involve school, for some thats not going to involve school. So things they can do to become deployable as possible like you just mentioned is to start a business. I dont care what the business is. Still my little pony memorabilia on the internet, gain experience, learn what it means to run a business and Learn Customer Service and no matter what happens your next step, whether it is successful or fails, put it on the resume. And the next tip is to build stuff. When i say build stuff, that kind of applies to building a business, but like start a band or build a robot or carve a canoe or something. Take photos and videos, blog about it. Just be interesting. Those things are what gets people through the door for an interview. If they dont have that piece of paper that says they are qualified. How about volunteering, how is that important . Volunteering, Companies Love to hire from within. They love to hire people that understand their culture, that understand the environment, that understand the people. Volunteering is a way to get your foot in the door. You go somewhere to say, i would like to work for you for free to gain experience as a contributor to your culture. When this becomes available, a lot of people are going to that person to say, you have been here to pay your dues, why dont you jump on board fulltime or parttime, bhawhatever it happe to be. Make your own lunch. Thank you. It was a long road and a lot of controversy, but former rutgers Football Player now paralyzed finally got his chance to speak. Well tell you what he said. Last night jayz and his sisterinlaw went on saturday night live to prove theres no problem with their relationship despite the elevator rant that was caught on video. Take a look. You know what . And to prove it, we got an exclusion look at the video. This time with the audio included. It sounds like a completely different story. Look. Man, what a great party. I know. Oh, my god, theres a spider on you what, a spider . Kick it oh, i got it. Oh, great job. I love you, solange. I love you, too. Hey, thanks again for the help with the spider. Good job. G foot five. Dont pass judgment, you dont know. I dont judge. You dont have all the facts. Like you have an elevator ride like that. Come on. In the Huffington Post one blogger writes about how 90s sitcoms taught her unrealistic lessons about what her life would be like and how it didnt match up. I have the experience that Gilligans Island taught me that you dont need money to survive. Just coconuts. She thought if i move to new york and was a barista at a place called central perk, for example, like jennifer aniston, that she would be able to afford an apartment that big. Did you also think that because cinderella has a dress made by a fairy godmother that a prince would whisk you away to his castle . Its television, a movie, not real. Thats why we dont have princesses in our house. Anelia is her name, she wrote this, i watched a lot of Primetime Television between the aims of 12 to 14. Thats what wellbehaved adolescents did weeknights 8 00 to 10 00 p. M. While the cool kids were out smoking and tonguekissing. I was in front of the tv with a sleeve of oreos, absorbed in trite plots of shortlived sitcoms, however those shows did cause one problem because they distorted my expectations for reality. I think in a lot of ways the country has changed. And i think a lot of kids arent out running the streets the way they used to or teens are home doing more. But i do think it is subjectively harder for young people graduating college right now to do the things they did 20 years ago, like have a decent apartment and job. It is petty stuff. Because the standards are higher. We dont want one landline that four people share, we all want our own cell phones and name brand designers. Well, uncle jesse from full house is responding. Have mercy his real name, john stamos. He is not impressed by this piece and says dont blame the way your life turned out because of tgif. If youre lucky enough to have kids, maybe you should watch reruns of breaking bad. See how that turns out. I loved this. In step by step that came on after with Suzanne Somers in that, remember they used to kiss . That made me uncomfortable. As a kid, that was the worst thing you could take away from. I never saw that show because i was at school, but this is awful looking, i have to say. Was there ever time in American History where people wore sweaters over their shoulders like that. I have lived here for 45 years. And the hair is that big. I do remember that. The fx show with the hair that big. The big circle glasses. She also said in this piece, unlike this point, she makes a good point that says no one ever chases after you like they do on television, and i disagree with that, but it is pretty classic to have the apartment with friends and benefits, she disagrees with that. But i will say a 1,000 apartment in new york city and working at the perk or as a barista, thats not going to happen. A lot of people said i would have gotten away with that if it wasnt for you and that darn dog. That was scoobydoo. I agree with that. Do you agree with the blogger or john stamos . The Huffington Post or john stam stamos . Rescue crews pull a woman from the roof as fastrising waters threat upped thousands in the balkan peninsula. Three months worth of rain fell along croatia and serbia. It caused landslides, covered homes and whole villages. At least 25 people are dead but authorities expect the number to rise. The firing squad should be making a comeback, at least according to a utah representative after last months botched lethal injection in oklahoma. Representative paul ryan said he plans to introduce legislation to bring back debt by the firing squad. He claims theres no suffering with the med saying, quote, the minute the bullet hits your heart, youre dead. The last execution by the firing squad was in 2010 in utah. He overcame the odds and today former Football Player eric la grand will inspire his fellow graduates by giving the commencement speech for rutgers graduation ceremony. La legrand was severely injured after diving into a tackle but didnt give up. Over the years he continued his education while going through physical therapy. This is me delivering a message to everybody else and hopefully leaving them with a good lesson that im pretty much teaching them how to handle adversity. Legrand was chose on the replace former secretary Condoleezza Rice. Rice dropped out following weeks of protest saying she didnt want to turn the focus away from the graduates. And enormous dinosaur fossils were discovered in argentina, but just how big is this guy . What was that . This. A tyrannasaurus. I dont think so. Ds bigger. We have a system across portions of the midsouth to bring showers and thunderstorms. Theres a look at the northeast, not too much to complaint about there. Theres the potential for the thunderstorms north of atlanta. It will be in the 100degree range across western texas. Thank you, clayton. Check your privilege. Thats the last charge with one man standing up saying i checked my privilege and it is just fine. He said the plane fact is what they understand to be privilege is really just what regular people understand as a consequence. It is a cop consequence of hard work, delaying gratification and of sacrifice. It is not a function of skin tone or the number of vowels in your name, but it is a function of character. We are joined by someone this morning, what does it mean to check your privilege . Its a way to grab a moral highground by sticking the round peg thats you into this square hole based slowly on where your greatgreatgreatgrandparents came from. Some people are sacrilegious, some arent. It strikes me that this is a racist attack in making a negative attack based on skin color. Absolutely. It is unamerican and immoral. It makes you forever and ever stuck into one category, as good or bad, based on where some obscure relative came from on the map. Look, its not its not an argument, tucker. What it is is an attempt to shut down and make them with more value. It is ridiculous. In your piece, you said this call, check your privilege. Response . You call privileges as me being better than you. What does that mean . Well, absolutely. Have you ever seen or heard of anyone babbling about privilege with any kind of track record . Okay, i didnt become a partner in a law firm because my greatgreatgrandfather came over from bavaria. I started out mopping out stalls in mcdonalds. On the military side, i didnt become a colonel because someone liked my skin color. I started out as a private. All of us have worked and have achieved something. Thats how we measure where the value of a person is. Not some arbitrary category thought up by grad students who have taken too many seminars. That summarizes it, fantastic. What kind of response do you get . I get exactly the one i want. Either slapjaw in amazement or unreasoning anger. And i want that reaction because im a lawyer. Im kind of an argument snob. I believe in rational discourse. You make an argument, support it with evidence, and when the other evidence comes in you change your mind. Privilege is designed so it is not an argument, so you cant change your mind. You cant tucker, you cant come and say, hey, heres a fact that you totally should change your perspective and have them say, wow, i was wrong. Tucker, im not going to evaluate you because some great uncle cape from copenhagen. Okay, kurt. This is designed to shut down arguments. It is. But i really appreciate your summation. I hope you come back. Thank you for joining us this morning. Thank you for having me, tucker. Well, christian singer michael w. It is off his first studio worship album since 2008 entitled sovereign. So what else has he been up to and what is the up space behind the new album . We are joined by singer and threetime grammy award winner michael w. Smith. Great to have you here. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. So tell us about this new album, what was it inspired by . Well, life, in general. This is a worship record. Ive done three of these, but this is a different kind, a studio record. All the other worship ones i did were live. So it had this pop side of colliding with the worship side so it is not so congregational. It is just music and different. And i got out of my comfort zone and switched record labels. I work with all these young kids, all the young blood, kids do amazing things. And it turned out amazing. Im so happy with it. Christian music has developed so much. You remember accoukumbahya. Why has it changed sop much . We realize pop music wont play our music for the most part. We have some exceptions. But we just had to get creative to try to tell the message. And hopefully we are Getting Better at what we are doing. I think theres songs that people really gravitate to. A lot of people all around the world just need encouragement and hope through a tough time. So for me, im just trying to represent the person of christ and just trying to be an encouragement to people. And im very grateful that i have done this as as long as i have. And im pretty tide up more than i have been in life. We all need a soft place to fall, and you have come up with a great place called rocket town. Tell me about that. It is kind of a club. It is almost 4,000 square feet of space. A christian artist with a club . Explain that. Its an indoor skateboard and an acting studio, music studio, arts studio, a big music venue. Its incredible. I mean, we are all starting this with my heart for kids and we get a lot of kids from the projects. And we are just having great success. They keep coming back. They love the place, but they keep coming back because the staff loves them. It doesnt matter what they have done or where they have been, but we are seeing a tremendous impact. Trying to love them the way christ loved us. Exactly. Your song is nominated for song of the year. How excited are you . Its been a while, right . I dont want have any expectations, so i never expect to get nominated for anything. When it happened, i was like, thats odd. I always think thats odd because i have enough awards. This is the latest in the spring of accidents including the one on september 11, 2012, when four americans were murdered. You must be a proud papa. Why are you here, kathy . My goodness we have showers and thunderstorms across the midsouth. I dont think well see Severe Weather but could see a tomorrow later today. Much of the country is quiet with a northwest system moving in here. We could see some showers across montana. The highs across the west are bringing on the high winds and relative humidity. Forecast wind gusts along the coast are looking good. We have amazing reports for the firefighters getting control of the wildfires from last week. Okay, clayton, anna and tucker . Thank you, janice dean. We enjoyed that interview. Come on, kathy well, youve been following, we know, the scandal at the v. A. Where scores of veterans apparently have died due to ineptitude and corruption there. Its a major problem for the white house scandal. And so they responded as they talked about firing yesterday on face the nation, but he was to about retire anyway. And he said theres no question that this is a termination of his job. There before he was planning to go, you heard what secretary shinseki said yesterday. Hes mad as herr and ive given him briefings with the conversation that is he and shinseki had. At the beginning of the quote, he said he would retire tsooner. He was mad about the i. R. S. Scandal and obamacare. In all three cases, his emotions are not the problem. And when you never fire anybody or cut anybodys salary or cancel anybodys Retirement Party, things dont get better. Fired rhetoric and tough talk is not going to cut it. The bottom line really, is the president so concerned about this . Then why hasnt he talked about it since he was pressed at the end of april about it . He has not mentioned a word about it. Heres Jeffrey Jane Duff goes. Hes mad as hell because he was exposed. Hes not mad over this but reacted quite a bit torn from south carolina. I dont think hes leading the organization. The organization is leading him. Those xirtives have low numbers and apartments. The u. S. Taught them to become fraudulent. And as long as you give bonuses, thats why the people continue to be corrupt. This pistol firing, retirement, whatever, is window is for many calling for his resignation. If thats part, maybe it is not unethical but criminal, too. How deeply this goes, especially with the report back in december. Well follow this story for you, but it is commencement season. A lot of people are going to graduation ceremonies across the country. If you went to one particular university yesterday, you would have seen attorney general eric holder giving a speech about race. At morgan state university. Take a listen to attorney general eric holder talking. Modified she gre investigation has been barred since brown, but significant interventions persist and segregation includes black males at a three time higher rate that before. There were protests by a small number of people, but they spoke out so well, i cant want to see that. Heres what a different picture from Condoleezza Rice is like. Take a listen. On a personal note, a little girl grows up in birmingham. The segregated city of the south where her parents cant take her to a Movie Theater or to a restaurant. But they have her absolutely convinced that even if she cant have a hamburger at the lunch counter, she could be president of the United States if she wanted to be. And she becomes the secretary of state. Yes yes yes, america, america has a way of making the impossible seem inevitable in wet prospect, but we know it was never inevitable. It took leadership, and it tomorrow courage, and it took belief in our value. One is reality based and the other not. Condoleezza rice makes the obvious point that, yes, america has improved an awful lot. How insulting is it to people who live. By the way, white race is still americas problem. The department of justice will spend an additional 4. 75 million in taxpayer dollars searching for racial bias in the criminal justice system. Next year this will be a problem. Hope and change is falling flat. Exactly. Hillary clinton is claiming the obamaera economy is better than the economy under president bush. Many keep reminiscing about the glory days but some blame president bush for the downturn. Listen. By policy choices we can turn surpluses into debt. Millions of jobs washed away with college savings, mortgages, nest eggs for retirement. Its taken years of pain staken work by president obama to get the economy working again. Is any of that true . Is the economy under president obama better than ten years ago . Here to answer that question is a member of the editorial board. James, thank you for being here. I have been on twitter so long i have no memory of that. The Bush Administration was kind of a sluggish economy, but what is weird about mrs. Clinton is shes lumping together the obama era and the clinton era. The fact is her husbands term was a lot better. I dont know why she wants to take care of obama economic policies when shes got plausible deniability. She was at the state department. She was a cabinet officer in the Obama Administration, so she has to presume some of it. During bush, the highest unemployment was 6. 0. The lowest was 4. 6 in 2006 and 2007. Obama, the lowest Unemployment Rate is higher than the highest under bush. Right. And what is really amazing and as bad as the Unemployment Rate has been, its even worse than it looks because so many people have quit the labor force. We are back to 1970s levels of labor participation. People are giving up who dont see a place for themselves in the economy. Its worse than it looks. Food stamps is pretty straightforward. It is up 19. 4 million since 2008. Now this is partly because the administration pushed food stamps on students and immigrants. They advertise them in mexico, come to our country to get food stamps, but thats not a sign of economic health. This is kind of a stat that reminds you that beneath all the numbers we talk about, lack of gdp growth, there are millions of tragedies. This is really just striking when you look at just loss of opportunity. And thats what bumping along at 2 growth gives you. This is one that is just blowing your mind. The number of americans living in poverty is up 6. 7 million since 2008. Thats unbelievable, actually. It is. Its amazing. And you think about it, you go back to 2009, the president came in and said, if you enact my stimulus plan, unemployment will never rise above 8 . That was the first of four straight years when it was above 8 . And again, we have said, its worse that it looks because of people dropping out of the labor force. That was not expensive or anything. 830 billion. You know, it was really even worse because what it did is took us to a new level of spending. 3. 5 trillion a year from below 3 trillion and we have remained there for years afterward. So huge stimulus in terms of government spending. Obviously the Federal Reserve printing lots of money, a lot of Government Intervention in the economy. And as we have seen the result, it is very little growth. Its been great news for people in my neighborhood. Washington d. C. Has become the richest city in the world. Thats the ironny of the president talking so much about income inequality. Thats the story of this era. People dont have jobs. Middle class people dont have jobs. Retired people on fixed incomes are struggling with low Interest Rates, but it is great for those that have stocks. That was interesting. Thank you for being here. Coming up, something you have in your refrigerator right now could be hazardous to your health. We have a major refrigeration recall for you that well tell you about. Com. Theres no buyers remorse. Save time, save money, and never overpay. Visit truecar. Com we have your news by the numbers this morning. 1 million americans are being overpaid. Is it worth it . Next, 1. 2 million cases of cot age cheese are being recalled. The affected products are from may 9, 2014, to july 8, 2014. And 95,600 is what Marlin Monroe sells a baseball for at auction. You have heard time and time ago, 50 of marriages end in divorce. But the next guest says that stat is way off. And most of the bad stuff you have heard about marriage is just plain false. Here with the marriage myths are shanti ferguson. Thank you for being here this morning. Thank you for having me. 50 of marriage ends in divorce, thats a myth. The researchers say, if this continues, were going to hit 50 some day. But the divorce rate hit a peak in 1980 and has come down so far, but the projections have not been adjusted to. So news people have all said this. Everyone throws it around, 50 of marriages end in divorce, but the peak was in 1980 . And it never hit that rate as an actual overall average. Theres been highrisk groups. Absolutely, but we have taken that and made it part of the conventional wisdom. And it is discouraging marriages. Heres a real statistic. Right now 71 of women are still married to their first spouse. Thats huge. And by the way, the 29 that arent, a big chunk of that is people who were married for 50 years and their spouse died. Thats not even the divorce rate. So we know it has to be less as an overall average. Less than 29. Theres a 10 rate of widowhood. We dont know what the exact first marriage divorce rate is, but we can estimate it probably closer to 20 to 25 . What about the myth that the divorce rate is across the board for those who go to church and those who dont . Listen, anybody who has been to church knows that the rate is not the same. It turns out it is based on a misunderstanding of George Barnas studies, i dont know if you are familiar with those, but the problem is George Barnas never studied people in the church. He was primarily studying belief systems. Someone in the church who is a christian has the same rate as a muslim. But he excluded whether they we want to church. That was not what he was trying to look at. So i partnered with barna and bought the set and reran the numbers and added one factor, which is was the person actually in church last week . And the people who were in church last week, the divorce rate dropped by 27 . You often hear people say, many people are in a desperate marriage if they are unhappy. So much of the conventional wisdom that we have about marriage is not true. And this certainly is another one. Oh, great, the best way to be miserable is to get married. And it turns out, when i go around and im sort of a freak for random research, and ill go ask people in coffee shops questions, and the latest thing ive been asking is, what percentage of marriages do you think are happy . And if i ask ten people that question, eight of them are going to tell me, oh, i think about 30 are happy. And they are shocked when i tell them the average is 80 . There have been many studies on this, including some of my own that ive done. And the actual average is 80 . That is not perfect, necessarily, but most people enjoy being married. It goes through ups and downs, but most people enjoy it. And the cynicism is based on conventional wisdom. Married people live longer, too. Thats what has kept anna from getting married. The good news about marriage is the book. Thank you for your time. Ill link this up and throw it on twitter. Thank you so much. Just another day at fox and friends. That looks like a potential disaster, but the good news is you had a helmet on and were totally safe, right . Even though i banged my held bow into the wall. I just learned this last night. Theres no evidence that requiring bike helmets lessons the aggragate bottom line number of head injuries. Its interesting, fox published a fascinatingshould w to wear bike helmets and may cause more injuries by having them on your head . Heres what happened, australia tried this and said everybody aught to be wearing helmets. So people decided to quit riding bikes. If you were biking on the roadway, the more accidents there are because drivers are not aware of them. Its not engrained in the culture to be on the lookout for them. In places like europe where bikes are ridden all the time, nobody wears helmet there is, but nobody gets hit, either. So its a matter of riding a motorcycle your whole life, its a matter of being able to see around. A helmet does narrow vision and affects your hearing. You are more isolated in your own little world when wearing a helmet and it makes it more dangerous. I think i grew up riding my bicycle everywhere, i didnt to water polo practice, the whole neighborhood in redding, pennsylvania, and i never once had a problem. I was way more aware of seeing cars coming, going over busy intersections on penn avenue than i would have been with a helmet on. Also, can the government tell you to protect yourself. Tons of pedestrians are killed every year. People fall down the stairs and slip in the shower. Why not require helmets for people walking . Well, look at these numbers. There you go. 5,500 pedestrians get in serious accidents with injuries every year. And cyclists are 3,200 pedestrians. Lets take a shot of sixth avenue outside right now. You would see all new yorkers walking down 6th avenue wearing helmets. We have 8 million unprotected pedestrians here in new york city right now. If it saves one person, it is worth it. Yesterday i decided to venture out and ride a city bike the 2. 5 miles home. I will say i road through times square. I was like, i never walk through here and thats why. There are so many people around. A pretty blonde girl in a dress rode by you in a city bike . It might have been helpful to have a helmet, but cumbersome to carry it around. The kids are riding scooters all over and now every kid has a helmet. Im not saying its a bad thing, but its total change. You wouldnt even let the kid leave the garage without a helmet. If your child has a traumatic brain injury because he falls and flips over a speed bump or something on your bike, youll wish you had one of these. I will say my sons mickey helmet does look cool. Cool. Friends, other stories making headlines this morning. Do you hate being delayed or bumped from a flight . There could be a Silver Lining cold hard cash and hundreds of dollars, folks. Some people are going to hand me bags of money next time im delayed. But the airlines dont want you to know this. Mark murphy is here to tell all. Nice to see you this morning, mark. Great. Break this down for us, what is going on here . I get bumped and get a bag of cash . Not quite a bag of cash, but if you are bumped and the airline doesnt get you to your destination within an hour of your scheduled arrival time, you are entitled up to 650, which is the max you can get. 200 of your oneway ticket. You can get cash, but a lot of times they give you a ticket voucher. You can demand cash and get it, but stay with the gate agent because the gate agent is the one to do that. Dont wait until later to call to get the compensation. It can go up to 1300 if delayed for more than two hours or more from your final arrival. So one hour. The airlines obviously dont want you to get the cash. They would rather give you a ticket voucher. So what is the proper tactic of demanding in from the gate . Say, arent i entitled to a cash refund here or a Cash Compensation . They may say, we are not sure about it. I called the airline yesterday, u. S. Air, and she acted like she had no idea. I really believe she had no idea, the reservationist, so you need to know your rights. Theres a thing called the passenger carriage, the contract of carriage. It is about 37 pages long and every airline has one. Its your contract that says when you book a ticket, this is what you are entitled to. Print that out and get familiar wit. Is that only for domestic or International Flights . For domestic and International Flights if you get bumped. If you are flying out of europe, they have a delay compensation. If you are delayed for more than three hours to get to your final destination, you can claim cash just on a delay. But thats only for flights originating out of europe. We still have to be a smart traveler and cant be running up there as they are closing the door to get on the plane. We have to be there early at the proper time. Right. You have to book n some cases your flight seven days out. You have to be there 90 minutes before in terms of checkin. If you dont do those things, that gives the airline out in terms of what they compensate you for. Something that a lot of airlines will do if you are delayed. They will provide you with meal vouchers and in some cases a hotel voucher. That all depends on the airline domestically. So now your rights. Every airline has different rules and different ways to compensate you. The only thing i ever got was a free bloody mary. They do that. It ended up being a good flight, but it was not a bag of cash. California chrome has won the priqueness California Chrome captures the second leg of the triple crown. The horse nobody wanted on the cusp of greatness. His trainer is here live in a moment. And the white house is in furious spin mode as the Veterans Affairs mode spirals completely out of control. Well tell you what they are saying this morning with the latest on the war of words. And they are one of those perfect television families. What a blogger says and how full house ruined their life. Uncle jesse is firing back this morning. And just like the 90s sitcom, mornings are better with friends. Aww. Have mercy. Have mercy. And we also had aunt becky on the show a while back. My moral world came from seinfeld. Welcome to fox and friends this sunday. Thank you for waking up with us this morning. He crushed the Kentucky Derby and California Chrome is a step closer to the triple crown. California chrome has won the preakness. The horse with the story out of hollywood is joining us, California Chromes trainer, art sherman. Art, welcome back to the show. We had you on after the huge Kentucky Derby victory. Now the preakness, where were you five years ago . Did you think you would be doing this . I didnt think i would be doing this the first of the year, to be honest with you. Art, i want to ask you everything just fell into place. A big congratulations to you making history for the First Time Since 1978, but theres controversy as to whether the horse will be able to race the Belmont Stakes because of a strip over his nose, is that right . Well, you know, hes been with a nasal strip to help the horse breathe. Its nothing to stop him from running, you know, if we had to run, but the owners are pretty adamant about running him with a flare on him. You know, that was one of their things. And ever since we put it on him, hes been on a sixrace winning streak. So its like changing equipment on a horse, you know, you can use it and all the other racing jurisdictions, and i just found out today that they dont allow you to use it in new york. So i am just wondering why. I think its fair to say, art, that both you and your horse were undervalued. What did you know that nobody else seemed to know . Well, i just think once in a while you get a horse like him that goes under the radar. And here you have a superstar in the making. And ill tell you, its been a great ride and were looking forward to the belmont. I just, you know, it kind of bothers me a little that we have to change equipment on a horse thats been running very good, you know, not that im superstitious, but i just dont understand it myself. Yeah, you can totally understand that. That is unbelievable. And, well, do you think i know its a superstition angle, like Baseball Players dont want to cut their hair if they make it to the playoffs, is that kind of what you are worried about here . Having to change a piece of equipment . Well, not only that, but we run back in two weeks. Now ive got to come back in three weeks. And have, you know, controversy over something thats beneficial for the horse. It doesnt make any sense to me at this given time. I just found out this morning that they dont allow nasal strips in new york, but yet the harness horses can race with it. I just dont understand that myself. So it sounds like i will look into it more. Do you think there are people who dont want you to win . Well, i you know, it is tough enough to go a mile and a half off three weeks, you know, rest. Im usually i dont run my horses for at least six weeks in between races, now im doing something i have never done with him before, you know what i mean . The twoweek turnaround had me worried. Now i have to worry about a threeweek and not having the benefit of having his nasal strip, which, you know, i dont train him in the morning with it, but in the afternoon he seems to relish that little strip. You know, if its not broken, why change things. Its amazing how something so small can make a difference. As far as training goes, whats the secret . I hear you are different from other trainers basing the intensity and how often you do certain workouts based on their mood. How do you tell a horses mood . Well, i can tell it. Once you are around a horse as long as i have and been in the business, you get to know the individual animals, you know what i mean . And hes the kind of horse that is such a pleasure to train that he kind of lets you know what is going on. He likes to be fresh into the races. I dont do much with him, you know, churchhill downs, they kind of put the whammy on me a little bit saying, well, you needed to be there two weeks before for your horse to run good, but we proved that to be a fallacy, too. It is unbelievable your story, art. Ticket taker just a few years ago. Now a trainer of one of the most unlikely horses in history. What would it mean for you and the owners to win the triple crown . Well, i would be delighted. I look back to see how many horses and the great horses that have won the triple crown. It is really good for racing. We need a hero right now, and we got a california i always laugh, california dreaming. I know in california hes the superstar, and now hes got so many people behind him, even in maryland they were applauding. You know, every place he goes hes got a big, big following. Wow. Unbelievable. Art, great to see you this morning. Good luck to you at the belmont and for the triple croup. Well be rooting you on. Well be rooting for you and in some cases maybe even betting on you. So good luck. All right. Thank you. Its all on you. Appreciate it. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. We have other stories making headline this is sunday morning we want to tell you about. 70 people are dead after a fighting weekend in benghazi. A deadly attack took place around the city. The Libyan Government says they did not order the attack and called it a coop. This is the latest in the string of attacks including the one on september 11, 2012, when four americans were murdered. This morning fire crews are gaining control of wildfires throughout Southern California. They are fighting off flareups and hot spots and tens of thousands of evacuees are given the allclear to return home. So far 24,000 acres burned in and around san diego. Officials from the cdc believe an illinois man likely contracted the device from an indiana man becoming infected while working in awe dee arabia. Health care officials are testing anyone who came into contact with the illinois man. The respiratory disease had symptoms like pneumonia and fever. It only took seven years, but this world war ii veteran officially has his college degree. 90yearold walter bunker left college in 1943 to join the war effort and has wanted to finish school ever since. After finding out he only needed just two credits, two credits to graduate, it was a nobrainer. And what about his postgraduation plans . Well, i think ill have to go out and start looking for a job. Walter has a granddaughter graduatiing xavier in two years. And those are the news headlines. Thank you. The white house is firing back at critics this morning who said they didnt take swift action over the problems at the v. A. Of course, we learned this week that Robert Petzel has been canned, fired, hes gone. And dont let the door hit you on the way out. The white house coming out yesterday saying, okay, even though he was set to retire in a week, we still fired him first. Its like breaking up with someone before they break up with you. So heres what the white house chief of staff dennis mcdunna said, theres no question this is a termination of his job before he was planning on leaving. You heard what secretary shinseki said yesterday, he was mad as hell and the president is mad as hell and i have the scars to prove it given the conversations that he and shinseki has had. The president is mad, therefore all is well. It is really about the president s mood. If hes angry about something, thats the equivalent of justice, basically, but this is a washington justice where the fired person still gets a Retirement Party and retirement benefits. And leaves maybe a week earlier than planning. We heard the president say hes outraged about all kinds of things. We played a sound byte about the i. R. S. Scandal and the targeting there and outraged about the care of veterans and how they need to be treated more fairly around the v. A. But really its mr. President , if you are so concerned about have not spoken about it since ed henry pressed you on this since the end of april . That was two weeks ago and a lot has developed since then. We had a commander from phoenix on the show and it talks at the problems that still exist there and the way he was treated there. Listen to what richard lasero said on our show a short time ago. I dont think the administration is responding as quickly as they should be. Steve young who is the acting director at the phoenix v. A. Hospital, the question was asked at our townhouse, what are your plans . He said, i have no plans, what kind of answer is that . I know hes only been in office for a couple of days, but i would have thought he would have some sort of planning before he went to phoenix and what is he going to do about the broken down system at the v. A. . You would think that, but if you thought that you may not understand how the federal government works. Double the amount of money they have for resources, up to 150 billion since 2006 when they were about 70 billion. If you are watching this and not a veteran, you are thinking this is sad, but how does it affect me . Im not going to the v. A. Hospital. The same people in the v. A. Now run obamacare. Good luck to you and you and all of us. More on this story coming up on the show. And this, she stood up for her traditional marriage beliefs in front of a big audience. Its wrong. You cant say what you feel without being persecuted if it doesnt go along with mainstream. When parents do not have a choice as to whether or not they want their children to see this, its wrong. Okay, and youre going to leave. No, im going to midland. Okay. Now shes under fire with petition to be fired and even death threats. So does this backlash show conservatives are being unfairly discriminated against for their views . Joining us for a fair and balanced debate, Regina Maxwell and kirsten hagland, kirsten, ill start with you. Do you feel like having the tradition nalg beliefs are something that is not mainstream and gets attacked too often . I think it is becoming increasingly less mainstream and people who formally were in the majority, their opinion on social issues are finding themselves in the minority, so how do they deal with that . But to say conservative issues are unfairly targeted, i dont know if i would say unfairly because a lot of homosexuals and minorities have been targeted for a long time because they were not accepted. So this is just the kind of competitive thing that i wish amy would have stayed on the show to debate. Everyone should have their opinion respected and we should have a debate about it. She silenced herself by walking off the set. I dont know if they are being silenced, but the idea of just because you have a view that is offensive to a Certain Group that you should say it without consequences. So everybody has the right to say what they want and to say their own opinion and speak their mind, but everybody does not have the right to say it on tv, for example. Tv is a private entity in which people who are consumers can say, i dont like what you said, thats offensive, maybe i wont watch your show. As consumers we have the freedom. We all have the freedom. And kirsten, some liberals are saying, hey, listen, if this man had kissed his girlfriend or wife rather than his boyfriend, would there have been tables turned, possibly . Would there have been the same response . Thats a personal preference. Everyone has a different view and amy felt that she wouldnt want her children to see that, but i would follow it up with the fact that theres a hot of highly sexualized content on television that we dont want our kids to see, and every family has the responsibility to turn that off. But i think what you pointed to is that we do want the views to be expressed and not silenced. And thats where i think youre seeing some of the frustration from conservatives. They say, hey, you are completely shutting me out here. I have space at the table, too, although it should be heard, at least. Though it should be going both ways, right in the group that is supposedly the most tolerant is intolerant of the traditional values. I dont think thats true. We all know who the aclu is, they fight so she can have her point of view and express it on tv without cops consequences and people not saying that you are not allowed to say what youre saying, but she doesnt have the right to a job. She doesnt have the right to say it on tv like i said before. I think the bottom line is, im the daughter of two evangelical pastors and have debated the issue of homosexuality my entire life because im a liberal and my parents are not. We need to have the conversations otherwise well never come to a place of understanding, but dont walk off the set. Have that difficult conversation and debate back and forth. You know, me and my father didnt always agree on the issue of equality, but came to an understanding through mutual engagements. Thank you for having a healthy debate. Thank you. Not walking off the set. Right. 19 minutes after the hour. Coming up, summer will soon be in full swing and so will visits to your local school, but before you take your kid for a dip, the hidden danger to put thousands of people in the emergency room. You are about to hit the road for memorial day and so many million americans are about to, too. Is your car ready . Do you know how to prepare when the engine warning lights come on . Mike quincy is here and hes an automotive content specialist at Consumer Reports. Great to see you this morning. Great to be here. Well look at the tire issues in a moment, but well start here on the dashboard. When things go off, why do we ignore them . You ignore them because you are like, i dont want to deal with it. We have lights coming on, is it my battery . What do thaw meey mean . A lot of times the lights come on when you start the car, but if they dont turn off, thats a problem. That may mean an emissions issue or a serious engine issue. If you are driving on the engine light comes on, check it out. The engine light comes on, what do you do . Thats sure sign that your engine is malfunctioning . Its an engine malfunction or sometimes its as simple as you didnt screw the gas cap on right and is messing up what they call the obd, on board emissions. Thats happened to me, actually. It happens to a lot of people and sometimes you need to bring it back to the dealer to get it checked on. Or screw on your gas cap a bit. What about that . Thats probably telling you theres something wrong with the cooling system. You have weak coolaln or a problem with the radiator or the potential for overheating. As you go on the road trip, you we dont want the cooling issues. You do want to pull over not to fry the engine. What about the oil light when it comes on . The oil is the lifeblood of the engine. That can completely torch your engine and you will get a complete Engine Replacement if thats the problem. Where on the dashboard are these things . Thats the engine light saying, we are in accessory mode right now. Does that look like a sandwich or something . Yeah, close enough. If you are driving and that light comes on, you definitely want to get that checked out. Okay, good to know there. What about the low fuel level . Low fuel level, a lot of people play the game of, oh, my light is glowing. How far can i get out of this . Like seinfeld, right . Exactly. To the limit. Well bring it back with as little gas as possible. That means 1 to 2 gallons left in the tank. When i see the gas tank glowing, i dont want to push it and get some fuel. For me, i feel like i have another two days of driving before i worry about it. We go outside now, we ran through the dashboard and now well talk about roadtrip prep and making sure you have coolant ready to go for the car trip and uptodate fluids. Big ticket maintenance items. Talk about that. When going on the road trip, you have to take care of the cars maintenance. If it is due for an oil change, get that done. You dont want problems while you are driving. There are other issues much bigger. Hondas, for example, get the timing belt changed about 60,000 miles. Thats not something you can just put off. Well, i dont have to do that. You dont get the timing belt changed, it can completely wreck the whole engine. And it will stop your car. Lets talk about the tire issues before the road trip. This is really important. People dont think much about their tires and just the black round things, but these are this is an example of what Consumer Reports does when testing tires. We look at how tires cannot wear properly. This is an example. This is kind of a flattened out surface. This is a tire that has been overinflated so you are riding on the middle of the tire. This is an example of underinflation. So as your tires are a lot lower in pressure, the side walls are cooling over and you are kind of driving on the side. You can see the wear on the side here. This is an example of a car that is misaligned. So the tires are wearing just on one side. These are all it looks good on this side. But these are all problems. Problems of inflation. This might be a problem of your suspension or wheel alignment. So you definitely want to get that checked out. And this is just an example of even wear across the line. You can see theres even wear on the sidewall and middle of the tire. How do you check to replace them . You take a penny and put it inside the tread. If you can see the top of lincolns head, its time to get new tires. If you can see the top of his head, good tip. Thank you so much for the Consumer Reports. We are getting ready for the road trip. Tucker, is your car ready for the trip this week . I thought it was put a quarter in there. You are in trouble. Big time. Next on the run down, remember the shocking video of a man beaten viciously after he accidentally hit a child with a car. Well, this morning we have an update to the story. And one blogger says 90s feelgood showsfull house ruined her life. What does uncle jesse have to say about that . We have the answer, stick around. A programming note for you. Former Vice President dick cheney and his wife will be giving a joint interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday this week. Check your local listings for that. A Beautiful Day in washington, d. C. And a Beautiful Day here in new york city. Well check in with janice and the weather coming up. A Huffington Post blogger has written a piece basically assailing her time in front of the television in the 1990s blaming her life for what happened on television behind the screen when she was watching full house and other shows from the 1990s like friends. She said it set up Unrealistic Expectations about her life, including this. She says, i watched a lot of primetime tv between the ages of 12 and 14. Thats what well behaved adolescents did weeknights between 8 00 to 10 00 p. M. While the cool kids were out smoking and kissing, i was in front of the tv with a sleeve of oreos. Absorbed in trite plots of shortlived sitcoms. However, those shows did cause one negative side effect, they distorted my expectations for reality. She blames specific things inside those sitcoms of the 90s, like, for instance, on friends when you can live in a lavish apartment and work as a barista. Which is true, there are plenty of people who live in new york who have rich parents and are doing that for sure, but its tv. Its escapism, not real. Just like movies are not real, just like harry potter is not real and you cant fly around on a broom. And just like the fairy godmother isnt going to turn you into a princess with a beautiful blue dress. It is escaping reality. Tell that to my wife who believes harry potter is real, but john stamos fired back. He is uncle jesse on full house. One of the shows attacked by the blogger. John stamos writes, dont blame the way your life turned out because of tgif. If youre lucky enough, you should have your kids have them watch reruns of breaking bad. See how well that turns out. Kids in the 90s were watching physical house. Do you remember kimmy gibbler . Ah we watched step by step and family matters. Did i do that . She warmed umpteen hours of tgif. I did watch it every friday. I think people just need something to blame. I think that people who blame tv shows can watch the show or just turn it off. And another says, i grew up on a steady tgif diet. I guess it was easier back in the day to tell the difference between entertainment reality. Thank you, curly. Why do people find it necessary to blame something for every disappointment . Your life is yours. Thats exactly right. Keep this show on but the rest of it, turn it off. Thats right. A new fox poll showing the president s Approval Rating among all voters is 44 . My next guest says although president obamas election genera generated a prized performance, Many Americans have suffered under his watch. Troy murdoch is here, thank you for joining us. Thank you, tucker. This is worse than i realized, give us an outline. Its understandable, i suppose, that at least early on when obama came in there would be a certain about of pride for the first black president in the white house. All americans are proud about that, but its been five years, four months since he was sworn in and the figures are grim. Look at up employment. Some improvement in the unemployment for black people, but look at black teenagers, thats gone up from 33. 5 to 36. 8 . That situation is worse. Look at other metrics. People are dropping out of the workforce, giving up looking for work. Thats gotten worse from 63. 2 to 60. 9 . For black teena dropped from 26 to 27, close to 28 . Isnt that awful . Thats bad. Very bad. You go on to poverty, more black people are in poverty from 25 to 27. 2 . These are all official Obama Administration numbers from the Labor Department from the census bureau, et cetera. These arent numbers from a crazy rightwing think tank. You are saying the president , his wife and the attorney general all say that racism is the central problem in american life, is that part of the strategy to deflect attention from the economic realities . I dont know if thats their attention, but it has that effect. You hear from the race obsessed, and it has the effect of not getting people to focus on this. So you go down the line and there are other method ricks on this. Again, official Obama Administration numbers with the situation getting worse and worse for black americans. And people who defend obama say we are lucky enough. The reason for this is the economy is trouble for everybody and white people are suffering, too. It is not a very good defense. In fact, a lot of people arent suffering. A small group of people have gotten richer than ever. The top 25 Hedge Fund Managers made 35 billion personally last year. So it hasnt been bad for everyone. And your neighbors in washington, d. C. Are doing very well. They are one of the ten wealthiest counties in america are right near washington, d. C. The richest city in the world. If we had a republican president right now and you saw numbers like that, 27 for participation among black youth, what would the response be . The response would be that the racist policies are making life miserable for black people. You always hear it on every news channel, not just here, everyone would be familiar with the figures. You are not seeing more response from black people is you dont hear about this in the media. I had to dig the numbers up and put them into a spreadsheet and all that. You dont see the numbers floating around. Im glad you did, it is interesting. It is better to have more facts. Thank you. Thank you. You dont need of course, theres nothing complicated about fishing. Youre lucky i brought a fly rod for you to shoot at targets today. Done but i mean, it doesnt cost you anything to get a pole, and a hook and a worm. The nice thing about it tucker is its a great time for a grandparent or parent to corner their kid, get them in a boat and spend a little quality time with them. Thats what fishing should be all were. What about with the bullseye. And turn off the video games and get out on the water and enjoy real, meaningful experiences with their parents, with their grandparents. Exactly. We wrote these books with a nostalgic oldtime feel from about when i was a kid you could just get up in the morning, go out and dig a worm, run down to the lake and go fishing all day long. Its different. Everybodys all plugged in now and we wanted to bring it back for you all right guys we got some kids over here. Theyre not plugged in right now. No. We might not have brought the ocean to you. But weve seen kids enjoying fishing. We wanted a little more realistic. And theres been some question as to whether or not the horse would run the belmont. Since new york does not allow nasal strips for horses. We asked californias trainer art sureman about that this morning. And while they will be at the belmont, its not without concern. Were looking forward to the belmont. I just, you know, it kind of bothers me a little that we have to change equipment on a horse thats been running very good. You know. Not that im superstitious, but i just dont understand it myself. Not allowed in new york. If California Chrome wins the belmont he will be the first horse to sweep all three races since 1978. Rags to riches. And those are your head lines. All right. Back inside. I love meeting all these new people. Thank you. Out of control. Half of new york, this morning. Janice, unbelievable. Weve been following this for the past couple of weeks the scandal swirling around the white house that emanates from the v. A. A very broken system in which scores of veterans have apparently died due to ineptitude and corruption. Well the white house claims we are on this. We have fired the undersecretary of that agency, mr. Petzel and all is well. Well we revealed on the show yesterday that, in fact, the man in question, the white house claims was fired, was due to retire anyway. Yeah in just a few weeks. So the white house really wants you to know, though, that they fired him about a week before he was going to retire anyway. A week before he was going to retire anyway. Dennis mcdonough yesterday on face the nation said this. There is no hes the white house chief of staff. There is no question that this is a terrible nation of his job there before he was planning to go. You heard what secretary shinseki said yesterday, which is that hes mad as hell and the president is madder than hell, and ive got the scars to prove it given briefings that ive had with the president and the conversations that he and shinseki and i have had before. So hes saying look, yes we fired him, he was going to resign bit we made sure we got to him first. What really matters is the president is mad. Thats inherently significant. Thats the same as justice. Thats the same as improving the v. A. The president is mad. He was mad about the irs scandal. He was mad about the nsa scandal. He was mad about the bad rollout of obamacare. And in every case, nobody was fired, nobody was indicted, and nothing got fixed. And if hes really so mad how come he hasnt come out and spoken about it in over two weeks. Its been since the end of april that our very own ed henry had to press him on it where he expressed his concerns over all and thats true. I mean i didnt know that until you said it. And then and then actually pressed jay carney on it again on friday because he hadnt heard from the president about this. You remember all this started in phoenix. Where the 40 veterans allegedly lost their lives, were left to die on these socalled secret waiting lists. Well there is an interim director whos in place in phoenix now and he showed up at a meeting that had a couple hundred veterans there expressing all of their concerns. So this interim director is there, does he have a plan . We have the commander for the American Legion in phoenix on our show. He said, he has no idea what to do right now. I dont think the administration is responding as quickly as they should be. Steve young who was the acting director at the phoenix v. A. Hospital they asked him the question, what are your plans. He said, i have no plans. You know, what kind of answer is that . I know hes only been in office for a couple of days, but i would have thought he would have had some sort of planning before he went to phoenix. What is he going to do about the broken down system of the v. A. Meanwhile steve young is that new interim director. Does he have a plan . Not according to our last guest on that. There he is. Hes the acting director. Meanwhile you are emailing us like crazy this morning over this story and the battle over bike helmets. Because a new report out this morning showing that bike helmets really dont seem to prevent the injuries that weve been led to believe that they do. You see kids at the play ground riding their little scooters around, every kid has a bike helmet on. Its no question that if they leave the garage theyve got to get a bike helmet on. You see bike riders in new york city, they have bike helmets on. Are they actually doing more harm than good . And is it more of a problem than its not . Its interesting that at least one study shows that bike helmets have not reduced the overall incident of traumatic brain injury at all. Obviously in some cases they help a lot. Theyve saved lives. But overall, they dont. And there are a lot of fears about why. One is that helmets may limit your situational awareness. They may limit your vision and your hearing. But no matter what, it is clear that more pedestrians are injured every year than cyclists. So the obvious question remains why arent pedestrians required to wear bike helmets . To save just one life, really, and also pads. I know it sounds extreme, if it saves just one life i think we should force people to wear i have to go against this a little bit because if you get into a bike accident, and youre wearing a helmet, youre going to be safer than if youre not wearing a helmet. Just like if youre going rollerblading and youre wearing all your pads and you fall down, youre less likely to get hurt. The thing with this study is that very often if you put these laws in place, requiring bike helmets, then fewer people are going to be on the roadways riding bikes, they tried in australia, what happened fewer people decided to ride their bikes. And thats a good thing. No it isnt. Then the drivers arent looking out for bike riders and theyre more likely to get hit. Bicyclists get in the way of cars. Roads are for cars. Which was invented first. Theyre not for cars. Paved roads are for cars. You need a bike lane. They get in the way and theyre like im riding a bike, im virtuous, i shop at whole foods, my car is a prius but im not using it, im a better person than you. Get out of my way. I have to go to work to feed my family. Do you go to whole foots . Did you buy sushi at whole foods . And side swipe tuckner his suv . In his Jeep Wrangler . Anything its a hummer by the way. I dont think its safe to say its you should wear helmets. That debate is dumb. Six miles to the gallon in his hummer. Save gas, burn more fuel, use your legs. Go to whole foods buy sushi and ride a bike. Jack writes us on facebook never wore one as a kid and never got hurt. Unfortunately a few a few rule the world. That is totally true. Youre out of control. I used to ride my bike all over the place. Jack never had any problems. Bradley from florida i have witnessed the firsthand the realities of head injuries. Helmets can reduce concussions and head injuries. Theres no question thats true. Does wearing a helmet increase the likelihood youll be in an accident in the first place. Thats right. Sydney says i wear a helmet i think its silly not to. If one decides not to wear one its their decision not this intrusive government. Same with seat belts, too. By the way, flossing. Flossing saves lives im serious. You get a gum infection can you go into a coma. We should make it manlder to and if you dont floss i think tucker youre right about that. Youre absolutely right on board. My son fell out of his bed last night at like 2 00 in the morning. Im putting him in a helmet from now on. Of course you should. Anyone who disobeys or raises wisdom of this policy should be executed. Serio seriously, because youre crazy, youre a denier if you disagree. So obey. Oh, tucker the police are saying your hummer is double parked. Coming up here on the show 36,000 convicted criminals now on the streets. Did we mention theyre also in the country illegally . How in the world can this happen . And do you love this crazy hump day ad . Everybody. Its hump day. Apparently that means your racist. The camel is the problem. Have the p. C. Police gone too far . Well explain this one. Bess what today is. Its hump day. Woohoo [ female announcer ] theres a gap out there. Thats keeping you from the healthcare you deserve. The Obama Administration is finalizing review of its deportation practices. This as we learn that 36,000 convicted criminals are in this country illegally were freed while awaiting deportation. That group included some pretty serious offenders from murderers to drunk drivers. Question is, why would we let any of them go in the first place . Joining us now, former Deputy Assistant attorney general tom dupr dupree. Thanks for coming on this morning. Good morning. Whats the point of releasing a murderer from custody . Doesnt seem like theres a lot of point to it. Its very troubling to say the least. These numbers are extremely alarming and it really makes you wonder. The administration has assured us time and again that its immigration policy is not going to jeopardize Public Safety. But these numbers and the fact that they are potentially very dangerous individuals are being released on the streets of our community really calls for assurances and guarantees into question. Lets be honest, this is a political thing. I mean there are all kinds of pressure groups and ethnic groups pushing really hard on the administration saying look, we made you president , and youre deporting people we dont want deported so the administration is caving to political pressure, is it not . I think theres a huge political element to it. I think youre right in that whats going on here is the administration views this as a political issue. And its in part a political issue but its also a Public Safety issue. That i think is the concern that really has gotten lost in the shuffle. Because i think its one thing for the administration to say, we want to fire up our Political Base heading into the midterms but its another to do so in a way that potentially jeopardizes Public Safety. Its a very serious thing. Heres what im confused by. So the i. C. E. Has said part of the problem is these are people were trying to deport but we cant deport someone unless the country from which they came agrees to accept them back. And the courts have ruled that you cant detain someone indefinitely if you cant deport him. So theyre in a bit of a bind. This is a diplomatic problem, is it not . Why doesnt the Obama Administration appeal to those countries, mexico primarily and say, look, youve got to take your citizens back. Absolutely. There are a lot of ways that the state department and other parts of our government can exert pressure on these nations to take back their votes, particularly the dangerous folks who shouldnt be res released into the United States. The other thing is even though there are Court Decisions that say you cant keep people locked up indefinitely what you can do is go back to the judge to get an extension on their detention for six months, period, and so if you have a situation where you have a murderer or a rapist or violent felon who is potentially about to be released, the administration can go in to a court and say, look, give us more time to work the diplomatic charges to see if we can facilitate this persons removal before we just have to let him out onto our streets. Theres no other country in the world that does things like this. What a shame. Mr. Dupree, thanks for joining us this morning. Absolutely. Thank you. Think youve had a bad day . Youve got nothing on the owner of this car. It wound up underground. Literally. Well tell you how that happened. And love the ymca . Guess what . You might be, well racist. A school performed it, and was attacked by the purveyors of Political Correctness. Well tell you what their problem was. [ male announcer ] a long weekend is just an excuse. Guess what day it is. Huh . Anybody . Julie, hey guess what day it is. Oh, come on i know you can hear me. Mike, mike, mike, what day is it, mike . Listen, guess what today is. Its hump day. Woohoo its a hilarious commercial. But the camel is a problem apparently. Recently students at the university of st. Thomas in minnesota were forced to cancel a hump day event over fears it might offend those of middle eastern cultures. Thats not all. The Village People, turns out theyre racist, too. And dont you dare call your professor mister or miss. Joining us from the Young Americans foundation is ashley pratt. Good morning. Good morning. I think of myself as kind of a connoisseur of ludicrousness but even i am confused as to why a camel would be racist. A dromedary is an animal, no . You would think. I was talking to the makeup people before this hit tucker and they asked me what is wrong with that . I said exactly, what is wrong with bringing in a camel for a fun event on campus before finals . The whole Political Correctness movement has gone so far out of line across the country, and its even spreading as you mentioned the whole ymca thing into Elementary Schools now. But College Campuses have just become hubs for liberal intolerance and crazy things such as a camel somehow being offensive to middle eastern cultures when, in fact, it was just a fun event before finals. Actually also in the head lines, the Village People have been called racist, if you want to dress up like Village People for a childrens performance, of first graders at fargos bennett elementary school, first grade teacher asked them to dress up as, you pick it, a construction worker, a native american, a cowboy, a police officer, and and theyre not allowed to because of racism . Where does this come from . Yeah. Im not quite sure, anna. But the thing that gets me here is liberals always claim that theyre tolerant, they want to celebrate diversity, and yet now all of a sudden dressing up as a native american is seen as racist . Im kind of confused by their logic there. And at the same time, its a fun thing for first graders. First graders to do. I mean who didnt do the ymca in first grade. I know tucker probably did. Its just one of those things where you know, these fun things are now being called out as racist, or intolerant in some way and this country has to apologize for things that are just fun. Its also ignorant. Its embarrassing. I spent time in the arab world and camels are popular, theyre valuable. Camel milk. Thats real and theres nothing wrong with it. I mean its just dumb. Only dumb people would consider that raisist. But why mister or miss . Why is that verboten now . I am so perplexed by that one. If i were called sir in the classroom, if i were a professor, i would be offended. Not only that, but i think confuses younger students if we start this early with lets say like first graders in the classroom, it really does confuse gender identity i think. And were living in this time where feminists are preaching that, you know, men and women are equal and yes i do believe that im equal to my male counterparts but at the same time im going to celebrate what makes me unique and different and that is my femininity here. And i dont think by calling myself sir i feel any more respected than i would if i were called miss. So this is completely out of line. You may have missed it. As a woman you have to pretend youre a man in order to feel good about yourself. So good luck with that. Right, so from now on call me sir ashley. This is ridiculous. Ashley pratt from the young americas foundation. Thanks so much thank you. Well, youny segregation still exists . Attorney general eric holder says yes it does. Modified segregation of Public Schools has been barred but in too many of our school districts, significant divisions persist, and segregation has reoccurred. What decade is the attorney general living in . What century . Well get to the bottom of it. And talk about major league dates. This kid has a way with the ladies and the crowd loves him for it. But theres a surprise ending to this one. Which you got to see. [ male announcer ] some come here to build something smarter. Some come here to build something stronger. Others come to build something faster. Something safer. Something greener. Something the whole world can share. People come to boeing to do many different things. But its always about the very thing we do best. Well, last night, keeping you awake, i wasnt yawning. Im excited. Im getting ready. He already has i did. I saw that out of the corner of my eye without my bike helmet on, i was able to see that. Last night, jayz and his sisterinlaw, solange went on saturday night live to prove theres no problem with their relationship at all. Take a look. Jay, now that i have you alone ive been waiting to do this a long time. As god is my witness, i will never do anything to hurt you. Okay. You know what . And to prove it, we got an exclusive leaked video. This time with the audio included. It tells a completely different story. Look. Man what a great party. I know. Yep. Oh, my god theres a spider on you what . Get it. It keeps moving kick it. Oh, my god oh, i love you solange. I love you, too. Thanks again for that help with that spider. You know what . No problem. Lets go back to the party. Yeah, that will be fun. Oh, my gosh, the spiders back. Get it i got arachnophobia. I love you. Love you, too. Oh. Oh, my gosh, the spider is back. Its on you now. I love that. I love you. Love you, too. It is true. I think its plausible. There was no audio with that video. Never judge a book by its cover. Just fixing his tie and all of a sudden it was assault. You can judge a book by its cover if you are watching a speech by attorney general eric holder at a commencement address. The attorney general used the opportunity to talk about that segregation still exists in our schools, and it is a pervasive problem. Its really a tale of two potential commentment speeches, because you remember, Condoleezza Rice was basically protested against at rutgers university, and then pulled out of that speech. She said she didnt want to detract from the university and the students graduating there. So, well play a sound bite from her, one of her speeches, and attorney general eric holder yesterday, and contrast the two. Take a listen. Modified segregation of Public Schools has been barred. But in too many of our school districts, significant divisions persist, and segregation has reoccurred. Including, zero Tolerance School discipline practices that while well intentioned and aimed at promoting School Safety affect black males at a rate three times higher than their white peers. And on a personal note, a little girl grows up in birmingham, the segregated city of the south where her parents cant take her to a Movie Theater, or to a restaurant, but they have her absolutely convinced that even if she cant have a hamburger at the woolworths lunch counter she can be president of the United States if she wanted to be, and she becomes the secretary of state yes. Yes, yes america, america has a way of making the impossible seem inevitable in retrospect. But we know it was never inevitable. It took leadership. And it took courage. And it took belief in our values. Message . This is a different country than it was 60 years ago, when brown versus board became law. Its the 60th anniversary of that Supreme Court decision. And Condoleezza Rice and i think every normal person recognizes that. But to eric holder white racism is still the defining fact of america. So the biggest problem we face, and thats ludicrous. Its just not true. But its also, and it may be politically inconvenient to say that, its also evidence these are People Living in a time warp. Wake up its 2014. Its not the country you read about, its a new country. Its an issue eric holder seems to think is very prevalent today and needs to be spoken about since that was the subject of his commencement speech that was given there and Condoleezza Rice on the other hand seems to think there has been a lot of progress and looking forward. The president and his wife have made statements along these lines that nancy pelosi, too, all within the last month. I mean, this is part of a coordinated political effort. Trust me. And you see the money being spent at the department of justice, 4. 7 million of taxpayer dollars searching for racial bias in the criminal justice system. That underneath attorney general eric holder. Really a tale of two potential speeches at commencement addresses there. Katrina writes this on facebook this morning, who wants to spend all that time in school, ready to start the future, only to be greeted by debbie downer. Commencement is supposed to encourage, inspire and help the graduates to want to take on the world. No, i think its time to remind students no matter what you do, you wont succeed because unseen forces will hold you back because they hate you because of your skin color. Dont think its a good message for commencement. An email from russell says typical glass half full, glass half empty analysis. Rice advocates, full, holder, empty. The biggest reason the racial divide is widening because the race card keeps getting played and it should be put back in the deck until it really needs to come out, which keep misusing words and they are drained of their meaning. It hems people politically to play that card. Thats why its played. Let us know what speech you would rather see there. Friends foxnews. Com. You can weigh in at ff weekend. They did a good job picking eric legrand to be their speaker instead. Totally. This is a really neat guy. Of course weve been concerned about los angeles because its been very warm last week and of course weve had the wildfire danger. Ill tell you all now. Thank you, janice. Well, Hillary Clinton makes the claim that the obama eras economy is better than the economy was under president bush. The next eight years taught us different lessons. About policy choices, we can turn surpluses into debt, millions of jobs washed away, along with college savings, mortgages, nest eggs for retirement. Weve got the numbers on this. Maria bartiromo live on that next. And saddle up partner, today we are grilling just like we did in the wild wild. No you didnt. Wild wild west. What is that, anna . We constantly evolve to meet your needs every day of the week. Welcome back. Hillary clinton gave a speech the other day in which she contrasted the current economy with that under the Bush Administration. Saying the Bush Administration didnt fare well in her telling. Watch. The next eight years taught us different lessons. About how, by policy choices we can turn surpluses into debt. Millions of jobs washed away, along with college savings, mortgages, nest eggs for retirement, its taken years of painstaking work, and strong leadership from president obama to get our economy growing again. The numbers tell a different story showing that the economy under president bush really wasnt worse than it is under president obama. Here to help us break down some of those numbers is the host of sunday morning futures maria bartiromo. Nice to see you this morning. Thank you so much. So was Hillary Clinton telling the truth there . Well, i mean, i would have liked to hear her go further because what i really want to know is exactly what policy shes talking about. If you look at the last, you know, six years under the Obama Administration this has largely been an economy boosted by the Federal Reserve. Okay. The Federal Reserve has kept Interest Rates at rock bottom levels. That has helped this economy. The administration, everyones begging the administration to come out with some policies, like tax reform, you know, like immigration reform, to actually get things moving again. So far we have not seen any of that. Did she have amnesia about the mortgages . That it all came unglued under the Bush Administration. But subprime mortgages, who was pushing that . Thats right. That was actually under the Clinton Administration. Thats absolutely right. But even more than that, when you look at the unemployment story in this country, we are nowhere guys. I mean, lets face it. Yes, we are just, you know, above 6 on unemployment. But the fact is the Participation Rate has plummeted. So even the last employment report where we saw almost 300,000 new jobs created, 800,000 people have simply given up. Theyve stopped looking. So the Participation Rate keeps falling. So you really cant look at this economy right now and say its so much better than the Bush Administration. In fact, its a lot worse, and thats actually a fact. Is it based on printing money . Yeah. Its not a real economy. Take a look at this. Up 19. 4 million since 2008. The number of americans on food stamps. You think this was wise politically for clinton to link the obama economy with the clinton economy . She would have been better talking about the 90s, wouldnt she . She should have spoken about the Clinton Administration in terms of balancing the budget, and bob rubin, also coincidentally at a moment in time when the internet was exploding and you had all this new job creation around technology. We were at the doorstep of the year 2000. Thats really where the vibrancy was. Under her husband for sure. But then of course when you look at what has happened in the last several years its a completely different story. The middle class has been wiped out. You look at food stamps, so its really a situation where everybody is getting squeezed, most importantly the middle class. Which is, of course, an enormous part of this country thats actually the group thats spending money. And now theyre not. So you always have amazing and unexpected people on your show. Today seems like no exception. We have some good guests. Were going to talk about the Business Climate with one of the leaders in technology. Well talk about John Chambers, cisco ceo at the Global Economy about that big selloff we saw in stocks. Also talk to senator Johnny Isakson in the latest on the scandal around the v. A. , the irs, and one of my favorite guests of the morning, Garry Kasparov is going to be joining us, chess champion and now freedom fighter. Well get his take on putins russia as we see stories of the sanctions deepening against russia. The question is, does this spiral out of control, where sanctions deepen in the u. S. , russia retaliates, that creates a spike in oil prices and really destabilizes the Global Economy. Its a risk. Its a its not the baseline but its out there so well get Garry Kasparov. Will you play him in chess . Should i play him in chess . Probably not, no. I would love to see that. That wouldnt be very smart of me i dont think. Maria bartiromo, always great to see you. Her show starts in ten minutes. Tune in on the fox news charge. Thank you. 49 minutes after the hour. Coming up saddle up partner. Today we are grilling just like they did in the old west.
