The other thing thats interesting to me is why dont we they say we dont want to have us control our border but on the other side, the cartels are controlling the border. And as you might imagine when you have the words, trump, russia, and comey in the same sentence, the media typically goes into meltdown mode. The first media that started this was the New York Times. They write no evidence has emerged publicly that mr. Trump was in secretly in contact with or took direction from Government Officials. That said, with that, that didnt stop the media from going absolutely biz zerich yesterday. Take a take a listen. That bombshell breaking news it is indeed a bombshell. This is very explosive. Its obviously explosive just to, you know, read it in print. But its not surprising. It is a really dramatic piece of reporting. What they did was wrote a headline based on an unnamed source who is a former Law Enforcement official apparently. They gave us this headline, look at that right there. Right . Shocking the fbi investigated if trump worked for the russians. Worked for the russians. But then you go barreling down several paragraphs to read there was no evidence that they found. The investigation found nothing. So, listen. Good on the fbi for, perhaps, pursuing anything they think legitimately should be involved. But, the New York Times wanting you to believe that something may have happened wrong but then buried down there that they actually found nothing. Rachel its also very serious that they opened a counterintelligence inquiry. This is used to determine whether someone or something is a National Security threat. So that means donald trump. If you want to bring costs down, the way to do that is through competition. And then also, on the Law Enforcement end i think we can do more in engaging in the community and making sure we build those solid relationships so our Community Trust the Law Enforcement officers and Law Enforcement officers can trust the community and para better way. How do we communicate to families that that is the right way to go about it . It creates fear. What you can do is tell your children, hey, tell them reality. These people are here to save us. These people are here to protect us. These people are like living super heroes. And yet in the interview that he gave with lester holt he literally says if i fire comey, it may lengthen the russia investigation but its the right thing to do for the country there was bipartisan concern about jim comey and how he had handled his job particular whether i respect to Hillary Clinton and her emails. His dereliction of duty reporting it up to then attorney general loretta lynch. So i think there is a little bit of looking at history through a different perspective now because the reality is that he was very clear that firing comey might actually lengthen the investigation but he believed it was in the best interest of the country. Frankly, i think his thinking was it was a bipartisan thing, that there was equal concern from democrats as well as republicans about how comey had been conducting himself. Griff sean, i have been pointing out that if you actually go into now not the headline that grabbed your attention whether or not the president was working on behalf of the russians you look down about 12 paragraphs you see this quote. So, if you knew that there was no evidence here that there was no findings, then why did they do the headlines and does it surprise you that it suggests otherwise . Yeah. To me, it just seems illogical and, practically partisan. Griff you talk about good for the nation. While this lawsuit is obviously is about due process and working without pay, but, is it safe for americans to fly during this . Thats the concern that they are thinking when they hear this news. Well, yes, it is. Because air Traffic Controllers are the eyes and the ears of aviation safety and security. When they are on the job, these folks are very dedicated to their jobs. So are the tsa security officers. So why arent we doing that with High School Kids . We should be. My mother was an immigrant and she new she was very knowledgeable about the United States government. She had to be. Todd right. I actually am from indiana. State senator from indiana. I had a great civics and government education in my education the High School Class of 77. As we all know, civics, education has fallen precipitously in this country. And we are seeing it every day. The push towards socialism among young people is at least in part attributable to the fact that they dont understand what it means to have government control every aspect of our lives. Todd that social impoint is a great point. Only 8 states out of the 50 require passage of a civics type exam in order to graduate. Lets take a look at these numbers. These are mind boggling, 36 of americans pass the citizenship test. That means 64 of us, because can i do math, i guess, didnt pass the citizenship test. This is where the divide is 74 of those 65 and older passed 19 of those 45 and younger passed. That shows we are not getting the education. It doesnt mean our kids are stupid. But it means we are not getting the education. I went to law school. The smartest kid in my Law School Class is now a major lawyer at treasury. Was an immigrant, right . Todd know thought new jersey was in new england. That shows we are not getting the citizenship education in the schools. It is true. And, indeed, those figures are dramatic. Rachel yeah, they really are. Generational dropoff. Im not sure why this happened. I think we can talk amongst the professional Educational Community as to why their priorities have shifted. But it absolutely crucial to understand the beauty of having a federal government with certain limited responsibilities. We put together a Budget Proposal released that to the press as well. Democrats wont come to the table and negotiate off that either. So right now it seems as though democrats just wont even have a conversation about protecting the American People. And lets real quickly, if i may, run through the past couple of weeks that have happened. The president started this really taking a message directly to the American People when for the first time in his presidency he went in to the White House Briefing room with people who had been along the border for decades and they said to the American People also behind the president listen, we need a barrier. It saves lives. It protects the American People. We need it. And then you move into this week, he signs the antiHuman Trafficking piece of legislation. He met the situation room multiple times with leadership from the house and the senate on the democrat and the republican sides. And he even went to the border. And Border Agents actually at those locations turned to the press and said we have arrested people from 41 different countries, hundreds of pounds of drugs. This is the perfect example that we have not only a National Security crisis along our border but a humanitarian crisis at that round table with people affected by these drugs and Human Trafficking and child smuggling. Why would they be considered a threat . Its a Catholic Fraternal Organization that was founded back in the 19th century and it is mainly designed to promote catholic activities. So charitable works, religious education. They also have an insurance company, which is quite important. They also promote the prolife message. And i think thats really whats at the heart of this. Rachel the knights of columbus have a very Effective Campaign of raises money for ultrasound machines which are used in pregnancy crisis centers. You think thats what is really behind this. I think it is. Base the two senators who are against the knights of columbus are very proabortion. I know that representative gabbard is also proabortion but she is also proamerican. In this case saying religious freedom applies to everybody, not just to people who agree with abortion. Rachel lets look what she said in her oped. We had sheriffs and representatives from massachusetts, from North Carolina, from all over the country including border communities, talking about how Gang Violence is permeating their communities and affecting the youth by ways of recruitment and the violence in and of itself talking about humanitarian smuggling, human smuggling case that theyre working on and the drugs epidemic particularly the opioid and the fentanyl is literally killing so many thousands of our youth, and that really is what makes up this both humanitarian and National Security crisis at our borders. Well i think that from a practical standpoint, griff, it is unprecedented crisis that we in customs and Border Protection our colleagues at i. C. E. And all of us who work these issues every day, and face these challenges every day, including, again, these state and local counterparts of ours, are facing we, by way of the humanitarian needs, the most vulnerable populations that were encountering along the border, oftentimes abused in addition to the security concerns by way of illegal Drug Trafficking organizations, pushing their drugs through the border, that is really what makes this crisis unprecedented in many ways and uniquely challenging for all of us involved in this fight. Griff commissioner, we are now learning of a second caravan that will gather in san pedro on Tuesday Morning and presumably head this way, mexican officials sitting there down there to meet with officials because theyre worried it may be even larger, your thoughts on this next caravan . Well, regarding the caravan, griff, not unlike the first larger groups of caravans that we encountered, cbp and the department of homeland security, we will be ready. We are monitoring that situation very closely. With that, how did she make it . Yeah, it was tremendous effort by everyone here, and its so great to have her brought home. Rachel absolutely sheriff first of all thank you for all of the work that youve done to never give up hope on finding her, wisconsin has just been in total admiration of all of your efforts and the work of your team. I really want to explain, because i live in wisconsin. I live not far from where this happened. Its hard for people to understand what the last three months have felt like. There was a killer on the loose for three months. Can you tell us how that felt for the community and the kind of relief theyre feeling right now . Yeah, the relief is what ive been waiting for for 88 days, because that was the message, i was elected to keep people safe and not having that unknown out there was, it was a lot of sleepless nights so it worked. It was a lot of sleepless nights rachel and dianne, how have you , how has the School District , what have you done as superintendent to help the parents cope with and the students as well, cope with her being lost and now found . Well, in times like this, it was really important for us to have some gatherings and be together, and share that hope that jayme was going to be brought home to us, as well as reinforce the faith that our authorities are going to help us do that and theyre not going to give up until shes home, and low and behold, shes home. Shes home. Griff sheriff the big question now is why . And so many derivations of the why. Why was this family targeted . What can you tell us about why he was planning to target this young lady . Was there a romantic interest in jayme . I know the investigation is still relatively new at this point but what can you tell us . Yeah, that is the Million Dollar question is why, youre exactly right, but and its a random, its random, but he targeted jayme, and we dont know why he targeted jayme, and thats going to be the question, where our investigators are looking at today and continue to look at, in the future, but he had no connection with the closs family, or knew the closs family, we dont believe he worked with them, talked to them had any digital footprint with them, so that is the question we need to reach out and find and that sort of detectives and fbi partners are doing today. Todd is there any way to explain the distance between the two scenes . One where jayme was found and two, where she lived . I mean, where her family was because it seems like there is at 60 plus miles whereas you think this individual wanted to commit a random crime he would have done it in his backyard. Yeah, and that is a good question. Its about 60 miles away from here in barron, and we dont know why he took them up to gordon. Thats where he lived. He had that residence, i dont know that he owned that house but thats where he lived. He lived there a en loin that residence, and thats where we believe he took jayme for 88 days but again were trying to confirm that to make sure they went there right after the crime happened, until l 88 days and make sure they didnt travel somewhere in between. Rachel sheriff, what do we know about what she went through . We dont know anything about what she went through. Were taking the case at our pace now. Were not in a rush to analyze any evidence, take care of anything like that, because we have jayme safe at home. That was our number one goal and now the conviction and the prosecution of this case is our number two goal. That was always been the number two goal here would be to solve the case of the murdered and the kidnapping and we can go at our own pace so were going to let jayme talk to us as time goes, get reunited with family, friends, you know, and her School Friends and dianne has done a tremendous job and her staff and the students at that school have really given us as Law Enforcement the hope that we needed to keep this case going. She doesnt have the right set of answers, and yet, and hopefully she stumbles upon them the democratic part over the last few years is a party that is struggling to figure out its identity and how it represents middle class workers and Small Businesses, and again, raising the tax rate to 70 and some of the other ideas ive heard come from her i dont think those are the right approaches we still have to figure out ways to pay for these things but theres no doubt there is a mismatch and the balance is out of order and how every day hard working people figure out how they climb the ladder and thats a challenge for democrats and republicans as we said before coming on air thats one of the reasons that donald trump gets so much support or a lot of support from democrats this last election go around. Democrats did a better job in 2018, but the rubber is going to meet the road over the next year , year and a half, and who presents the best set of ideas, and its going to be a socialistic approach. Its got to be an approach different from the one weve taken so far but i give her credit she is at least forcing the conversation. She hasnt come up with the right answers. Rachel but shes also forcing so many of the 2020 candidates on the democrat side to go further left. I mean, with the exception of tu lsi gabbard, who made overtures to the center everybody else is trying to get over to where alexandria is. How is that good because i look at the people who voted for donald trump the one that you say the workers, who feel like hes fighting for farmers who feel like hes fighting for them i dont think they respond to the kind of message that alexandria is doing so why are the 2020 candidates following her . I dont think they have anyone else in any other kind of message to follow. I think theres a belief that the paradigm that exists in the party for a long time is not working, so she presents an interesting thing to follow but i dont think in the long run thats where people end up. You wont beat donald trump with an old tax the rich message alone. Youve got to come up with a newcomb pact. I dont know what that compact is but again i give her credit for the energy piece. Democrats with this wall and with this shutdown of government , weve got to get past this, but theyve got to come to some agreement. The republicans are wrong on some of this and so are the democrats. Come to an agreement so they can get to their agenda of infrastructure, of taxes, voting rights, of anticorruption of privacy legislation. You get to those things and a message may come from it no doubt the aoc message wont lead us there. I think one of the things this should down argues for is term limits in that you see both sides so angry at one another from four years ago, eight years ago, 12 years ago they cant look the other guys and women in the face and say lets strike a deal. I do think the risk rests more on the president s side right now this morning. Hes got republicans like rob portman, saying that maybe the shutdown is not the way to go about getting a resolution here but theres no doubt. Theres got to be some money there for the president to do some of the things he wants and for us to protect the border because it is a priority. How do you think its inspiring people, whats your purpose . You know for me after being burned in that fire 11 years ago and told i would never walk again it kind of got into my bones that i wanted to not only recover from that but to push the limits of hum Human Potential so with this project i named it impossible first because people said it was impossible and by proving it was possible, i want to have that Ripple Effect for people to dream great in their own lives think about whatever their goals are and realize we have reservoirs of Untapped Potential inside of us. Griff but out of all of the things you could have chosen, an iron man, maybe ill do things, why did you choose this . Well its been a progression. I was a professional triathlete for a bit but this, you know, its something that no one in history ever accomplished before so to be the first to do something on a pioneering expedition in a place like antarctica was extraordinarily. Griff you were unsupported explain how significant that is . Yeah, so i was alone completely but i crossed a land mass unsupported so my sled had to have all of my gear and it was 375 pounds and also no wind assistance, not using kites or dogs, just me, pulling my sled, with everything i needed in a closed systems out there all alone. Rachel how do you train for that . Its kind of a life long training but it was i had to put on an extra 20 pounds because i was going to lose a bunch of weight, figure out this custom food with my sponsor standard process we did a year long study of my blood and nutrition to get the right foods, we made these bars specific to my needs and it was just kind of a whole journey of getting prepared.
