Well dagen the timing of this announcement is significant given that Andrew Mccabe was just about 24 hours away from retirement and a pension said to be worth 1. 8 million all of that is in jeopardy now and last night attorney general Jeff Sessions said two internal investigations by both the fbi and doj determined mccabe had lied to investigators who were reviewing the bureaus handling of the probe of Hillary Clinton s email server and both have recommended he be fired. In a statement sessions said both the oig and fbi reports concluded that mr. Mccabe had made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and lacked can dor including under oath multiple occasions. And he goes on to say that all fbi employees know that lacking candor under oath results in dismissal and that our integrity is our brand. Now the former Deputy Director of the fbi is fighting back though and blaming President Trump for his firing and he claims that it was done in part to damage him as a witness in the special counsels investigation and in a statement he said for the last year and a half, my family and i have been the target of an unrelenting assault on our reputation and my service to this country. He said articles too numerous to count have leveled every sort of false degrading allegation against us and the president s tweets have amplified and exacerbated that. He called for my firing. Now, this firing, it comes shortly or rather shortly after mccabes firing news broke of this President Trump was celebrating it on twitter and he posted Andrew Mccabe fired, a great day for the hard working men and women of the fbi, a great day for democracy and james comey was his boss and made mccabe look like a choir boy and he knew all about the lie and corruption going on at the highest level of the fbi. Now that tweet did not sit well with a number of the president s critics including democrat congressman eric swallow who sits on the House Intelligence Committee and he tweeted back groan now but you will be fired soon and its not going to be down cowardly as youve done to so many who have served you. Theres a storm gathering mr. President and its going to wipe out you and your corrupt organizational the way down to the studs so mccabes firing comes as the Justice Department Inspector General is set to release a report from an oversight investigation of the fbi and that report is expected to be very critical of mccabes handling of the clinton email probe, his handling of the duran o during the early months of the russia investigation as well as his ties to the Democratic Party dagen . Sessions say throughout this that he is going to be taking his time to gather information and to make a decision based on facts. I assume thats the move he has made here. Thats what hes been saying hes wanted to do, so whether he made the right decision or not, we will discover that and ill also say what weve seen throughout this is retirements and i think that mr. Sessions was down to the wire on having to make a decision and he felt he was making the decision based on tax apparently. Dagen well do you believe the statement because again this decision grows out of an independent investigation by the Inspector General which will be released in the coming weeks and then also, a decision a referral to the office of professional responsibility at the fbi which is supposed to handle or does handle investigations and to allegations of misconduct so do you believe the statement then that Jeff Sessions put out because that would justify the firing. Well, i havent seen what the Inspector General has done yet, so when we get our eyes on that, then ill be able to have more of an opinion but i suspect that he like he said he was going to do was going to take his time and try and do this right and not be without facts. Dagen well there have been 19 fbi employees terminated just in the last year march 2017 to march 2018 for lack of candor, which is the phrase used in sessions the attorney generals statement he made about the firing of Andrew Mccabe and those people werent under oath so if other people get fired at the fbi for lacking candor, shouldnt Andrew Mccabe assume he did lack candor when asked about the leaking to the wall street journal should he have been fired . Well lets put it this way. I think theres an opportunity here for everyone involved whether its the department of justice and mr. Sessions, Christopher Wray at the fbi, you know, there are so many good people that work in these agencies that are true patriots and i think this is an opportunity for them to make it their finest hour where we say we have people coming in not doing the job in the way they should be doing not being the ut most with professionalism lets clean the house and lets start to rebuild some of the trust that the American People want to have in these agencies. Well i would say we have this vetted by Christopher Wray, and two of the people that work at the fbi including one that was involved with the application for the warrant and they said that everything in our memo was factual, so maybe sound like hes trying to change the story or defend himself in some certain way, but we went through the proper procedure to get it verified and vetted and they said that everything was factual at the top. This is a way to punish Andrew Mccabe by basically hitting his pension in some way, so how would Andrew Mccabe go about being punished if he was allowed to retire on sunday and begin collecting his pension . Well this is a pattern of practice that weve seen it looks like the white house was very much involved in the firing , the president s tweet immediately thereafter. Its a pattern of practice that weve seen coming from the white house that interferes with the independence of the department of justice and the fbi so i think that its a reflection of the lack of respect for the independence of the fbi by the trump adminitration. Look, this didnt just happen. This has been on the table for a while. The president has expressed himself about mr. Mccabe and it appears like the department of justice or the attorney general was responding to the president. Dagen the president has been tweeting about Andrew Mccabe he did right after midnight last night. This is an ongoing bad relationship between mccabe and the president , but if the Inspector Generals report and the conclusion by this division at the fbi, the office of professional responsibility, if the conclusion is that he didnt tell the truth or that he lacked candor when questioned about the authorized leaks to the media, should it regardless of what the president has said on twitter regardless of the anger the president has expressed should mccabe be fired . Well, theres a proper way to do things and theres an inappropriate way. This was just not appropriate the way it came down, the day before his retirement. The report will speak for itself and mr. Mccabes conduct will speak for itself, but the manner in which the attorney general handled the firing is very much looks as a vindictive act and a political act and thats not what we need at the department of justice at this time. Dagen but senator youre focusing on the optics of it and i will focus on the need to punish lying if youre fbi ran kin file or youre a leader at the fbi. People go to jail all the time. Well the timing of this is solely to be punitive to his potential pension thats the timing of it, its not to raise a judgment about what he did. If youre saying that the pension is a punishment, the pension benefits are an entitlement. You dont punish somebody by pensions. There are proper ways to deal with corruption if thats what theyre claiming but i dont believe they are claiming that so once again, the timing of this looks very much Like White House interference with the department of justice in an effort to be the show that theyre going to take action against someone they dont like. The other reason is that its the peoples money like i said, you know, just before the people spend it much more effectively and efficiently than the government weve seen any number of government projects where you give the government a dollar it manages to take it away with some silly project thats over budget and over time. Its the fair its thing to do. Put the government on a diet and redefine what the government should do and let the people keep their money. You keep telling that fib about the republicans raised your taxes. Well yeah because the individual tax cuts expire after 2025, but now, this is a put up or shut up moment for democrats. What i think as a democrat we should make individual taxes lower for people and ill go on the record saying that. I dont think thats out problem to johns point about the deficits is if Corporate America got their rates reduced but after your lawyers get through with the loopholes and effective tax rate for corporations it gets much much less and thats fine i want corporations to hire people and stuff but its still not fair compared to the individual but we should make the individuals permanent and one fact is republicans arent running on this right now and if they do go into phase ii maybe they will use this as an achilles heel to make end roads into the middle class like they lost in pennsylvania in 2018 not using this narrative. I think as long as democrats are winning elections using this narrative, politics is getting in the way of common sense. Dagen [laughter] aaron but i will say this about the republican. This making these individual tax cuts permanent cost at least half a trillion dollars but they get in their own way by that dumb budget that they pass which , you know, its extra 300 billion over two years, it takes our annual budget deficit to a trillion dollars in a few years, so again, when you dont know how to cut spending or at least reign it in in some way, then youre your own worst enemy well theres not a chance this is going to happen this year to throw some cold water all over it. Not only are we talking about budgets but they still have to fund the government there still has to be a daca fix and look what youll see democrats start to campaign on is this is a culture of chaos and corruption going on in washington right now between the white house and the republicans on capitol hill. There is just no chance it happens its just an election year, theres no proposal yet and i dont think were going to see any movement on this any time soon. It reads in part. As a district we are required to supervise students during the school day. We do not leave them unattended in classrooms this is the same practice our district implements when they opt out of other School Programs or there is an alternative supervised locations. Were they walking out where their teachers with them. At this anti gun violence valley where their teachers with these students. They were escorted outside and they were supervised by some of the staff in a very large police presence. What do you think happens basically student decisions or students wanting to speak out.
