Well, this is a good sign. This guy, Kim Yong Chol, i think i met him in my travels to north korea, im not sure, is a heavy weight. He is head of the intelligence service, which is the biggest power center next to kim jongun in north korea. He has kim jonguns ear. He did all those cyberattacks on sony. So he is a big player. Meeting with the secretary of state makes a lot of sense right now because you have to set an agenda for the meeting. And we have to narrow the gap between what we consider denuclearization and what the North Koreans considered it. Both leaders need this summit for their own political strategic reasons. But this is a good sign, whether the summit takes place june 12th, if it is put off a few days, a couple of weeks, i think thats fine. Lets be completely prepared because the North Koreans ive negotiated with them. Theyre relentless, theyre very focused, and we have to be focused, too. Sandra we know mike pompeo, the secretary of state is meeting with President Trump before he has this meeting with Kim Yong Chol. What do you think that their strategy is going to be specifically heading into this . Well, they want a successful summit. I think pompeo has done a good job of meeting with kim jongun, with the North Koreans. But then the rubber meets the road. The results of the summit. I think what pompeo is asking the president or pushing the president to do is lets find a way to have denuclearization of the North Koreans but on a phased basis, on a stepbystep basis. Closest to what the south korean government wants. I think the president needs to be flexible and he did say that he was ready to see a phased withdrawal, a phased movement of denuclearization by the North Koreans, instead of instantly. I think he is showing a little flexibility and pompeo is trying to narrow the gap with the president before he goes into this meeting with the north korean. You want to have a semi agreement precooked agreement before you have the summit, which will be a lot of pageantry and photo ops. You want to have more or less where you want to end up before you start the summit and thats what pompeo is trying to do. Sandra how good would that agreement be . How much can you trust north korea as these negotiations and these agreements are made prior to that potential meeting happening . Well look, you have to have very strong inspections by the International Atomic energy agency. You have to have timelines. Look, the North Koreans in the past violated agreements because we didnt have tough inspections. They did it under the clinton administration, the bush administration. North korea has to have unfettered access not just for the overground facilities but they have a lot of underground sites. But timelines. When are you going to complete this missile freeze or missile denuclearization . Thats what will be narrowed down at the summit. I think right now pompeo needs the flexibility to be able to come up with a sensible longterm agreement. My hope is that whats also included is the remains of our soldiers. Get those remains. We have thousands of remains of our soldiers from the korean war. Its a human rights issue that is important to a lot of american families. Sandra interesting. Governor, the president seemed really optimistic last night at that speech he gave at the rally. We have a great Team Together for our talks with north korea. We are moving along nicely, says the president. Maybe put the date and exact timing of this aside, what do you think are the actual chances of this summit taking place and those two World Leaders getting together and sitting down . Well, it looks like the summit will take place and i said that it is because both leaders need it and the International Community needs it because you want dramatically less tension in the Korean Peninsula. I think the issue is going to be will it happen june the 12th. Look, i dont think that should be criticized if it doesnt happen then. If a few more weeks are needed, lets do that. If the pompeo meeting with the north korean doesnt turn out well and you need more negotiating, you know, we have people in north korea, our nuclear experts, logistical experts are there. To find that out. It looks to me like the f. B. I. Was doing what President Trump said i want you to do. Find it out. Bill what gowdy also said he saw based on the hearing that President Trump was not a target. What do you think of this now . A couple of things. First of all, that happened in 2017. The issue that where donald trump made those comments. The issue were talking about is in 2016. The other major thing that you have to understand is that this was by all accounts a Counter Intelligence investigation. That is far different than a criminal probe. A, attorney general sessions should have never recused himself. You dont need to recuse yourself from a Counter Intelligence investigation. He was fundamentally wrong when he made that and what created the special counsel. Number two they should have informed donald trump himself. We as a country protect our president ial candidates. We give them secret confidence protection, a c. I. A. Briefing, the daily even before they become the president. And if there was a Counter Intelligence operation, they should have informed donald trump along the way. Even when he was the president elect. They had a duty and obligation and protocol would say they would actually give him a briefing. But evidently they didnt. Why did they break protocol yet again . Bill i dont know the answer yet. My suggestion Alan Dershowitz said perhaps the f. B. I. Was looking for something and they couldnt find it and kept looking and perhaps thats why they didnt pass on the word. It is Border Security, it is border technology. It is stopping nefarious things and human exploitation coming across that border. But you also have to get the democrats to step up and help us fix this immigration system. Sandra is that realistic, congressman . I dont think you have a choice. You have to pursue it. You cant give a speech about how you want a solution for daca and then not fix the very problem that creates that. Sandra we havent seen that so far. This is something the president hit hard on last night. He went further. Lets listen. President trump voted against legislation to remove these criminal aliens. They voted against kates law. Democrats have opposed every common sense measure necessary to stop this horrendous scourge of crime, to dismantle ms13 and stop illegal immigration. Im going to make the argument that the president is taking us on the right track from understanding you have to do the Border Security. But for many of us we also need to fix the immigration system. Wouldnt it be amazingly cruel to say well come up with a daca solution but well do it again in 10 years . The holy grail is moving away from this immigration system we have today where todays immigrants get to choose the next generation instead of moving to a talentbased system like the rest of the world uses. So a lot of the mexican president ial race is actually reacting to our president. So it will be fascinating watching the rhetoric coming up from the south. Look, for many of us particularly those of us in a border state, weve actually had to finance and carry much of the cost of the federal governments failures. We want to see a solution. We want that Border Security. But we also want the rest of the immigration system to get fixed. How do you get the people in washington to understand its almost a holistic theory. You cant fix one thing and leave the others hanging because you just move the problem to something else. Instead of coming across the border you come across on visas. And stay. I had the blessing of spending this last weekend in south korea up in the dmz visiting our troops. You will be incredibly impressed how much more prepared we are today than even two years ago. And i think that preparedness has made the North Koreans understand were serious. There is incredible optimism. I want everyone to understand this will be an emotional rollercoaster. There is decades and decades of mistrust. We have to work through what we want from them, what they are willing to give us, and keep pushing and keep pushing, and just understand there will be highs and lows and this may take many, many months. That premise, though, is probably completely wrong when you consider that even when Bernie Sanders was pushing medicare for all he acknowledged it would cost 13 trillion over 10 years and the urban institute said the figure was more like 32 trillion. In canada where they have universal Health Insurance waiting times for 50 of the population to see a specialist are over four weeks. It could be for a hip replacement all the way up to Something Like a cardiac procedure. The idea that this wont involve rationing and wont be very expensive is wrong. The other point here, bill, this is something that people out there dont know. When you go to the hospital with medicare, there is a lot of unreimbursed bills. Hospitals end up shouldering 85 billion a year worth of unpaid bills for medicare and medicaid. You know how hospitals make up the difference . With private insurance.
