London versus paris, a realestate contest. And. Say in america. Varney and company is about to begin. Two bigname tech stocks where we start, ebay gave a disappointing forecast but theres more to it than that. They are giving the government 3 billion in tax. They are going to bring money back from overseas and to do that they are paying a very high tax rate on 3 billion. What is going on . Why are they doing that . We will answer those questions. The stock is down 5 . Twitter not growing as much as investors would like. It has a fraction of the users facebook does. It is not growing. Is twitter just an event driven niche platform . We will ask about the stock of the day on the downside, 10 lower. Check the big board. Modest gain this morning, 16557. I am trying to do the math in my head, we are 18 or 20 points away from the alltime closing high. I dont think it has anything to do with the run gdp number. We will delve more into the market later on. Here it is. Do you call this growth . The economy grew at an anemic 0. One rate in the first three months of this year. Some of it can be blamed on the weather but not all of it. Here is the question. Are we headed for recession . Is the chief economist at a Heritage Foundation going to answer the question . Are we headed for recession . Pretty grim got awful numbers. I dont think we are headed to recession. Private sector gdp was up 0. 2 , slightly better than the 0. 1 overall number but everyone is disappointed. The most deserving number in this report, i spent last 45 minutes really leaning over all these numbers, the one that really bothered me the most was private Sector Investment in business and technology, and equipment, fell fairly significantly and i view that as a lead indicator where the economy is headed but i dont see a recession. I see really slow growth. We have been in this rut for five years now. Stuart i got this in from the white house. The gdp number i will quote directly from. It says the report also Shows Positive impact, positive impact of the implementation of the Affordable Care act which together with continued slowing in health costs helped strengthen the economy in the First Quarter. Can you explain that one to me . I am scratching my head about that. I was looking at these numbers. Healthcare spending was up in the First Quarter. I am not so sure that is a good thing. I thought we were supposed to be pushing back on these costs increases so i dont get the idea how this ties into any positive aspect of obamacare. I would make the opposite case. I think two big negatives on the economy over the last yearandahalf have been obamacare which you and i discussed many times is having a negative effect on employment. The economy cant grow if people are not working and obviously lets go back to those tax increases we put in place in 2013 on investment. Investment has been weak at higher tax rate on Capital Gains and dividends and smallbusiness is have kicked in. Stuart each of the last four years write about this time of the year, green shoots, hopes are high that we will somehow break out of the 2 growth rate and go for robust growth, 4 , 5 growth. It never happens. This year, a repeat performance of those dashed hopes. Exactly right. Like we keep playing this record over and over again where we start out the year pretty good and things really slow down in the summer. Remember joe bidens summer of recovery that never happened, waiting five years for that. I am not predicting a recession. I think we are in this rat where we should be growing at 4 we should be stored. And growing number 2 but the second half of last year. We got over 3 growth which felt pretty good and how slow the economy has been. Stuart we are down to 0. 1 . Will be revised. I got that. Thank you very much for scrambling to be with us. This came as a real surprise. Ebay paid 3 billion in taxes to bring money back from overseas. If you have money over there and bring it back here you pay a 35 tax rate on its and charles, i cant believe they did this. You know why they did it . Charles you can only speculate. Here is the thing. A lot of times i look at companies and i look at the culture of the company and they had two cultures, became very rich on the left, then you have meg whitman, probusiness, understands connecting dots. Feels like they reverted to the founders culture where is copay to pay a third, 3 billion of shareholder money to the government without having to. The only thing is extrapolate and speculate. Some where theyre going to make an acquisition. And the south America Company i like the law, those shares were up big today. Other than that it is beyond any rhyme or reason why any company would do that . Like you walking outside right now, taking your wallet and throwing the money out the window. Stuart are they not subject to a lawsuit . Filed shareholder of ebay, a fiduciary responsibility, profits being protected by the company and checks away 3 billion. Charles dont know how far a lawsuit would go but this does speak still weak board of directors, Companies Going really stupid things for a long period of time and never have to pay a price, singly the microscope is on. You already had an Earnings Report that didnt make anyone happy to begin with and you wanted to make it worse by giving away 3 billion. Stuart where are the lawyers when he really need them . Charles theyre circling around. On dday headquarters, a thousand people out there, though the protesters. They all have a card in their hand. Stuart lets break away from this and go to nicole petallides, yelp is down big again, what is happening now . Nicole a couple things happening. Twitter came out with their numbers, sympathy with twitter but coming out with its numbers after the bell the stock is down 4. 8 . Social media stocks beaten down this year, vs. Last year weather hitting alltime record highs. Watching facebook, linkedin, yelp and twitter, to the downside, many are down 20 so we are waiting to see what they say after the bell. I have to tell you rosenblatt saying the declines we are seeing in yelp are buying opportunity. They see Growth Potential for yelp in particular. Obviously low in front topping them as well. So this is one to watch and the next we will keep an eye on linkedin who will come out with their numbers on may 1st. Their revenues are growing, and that was a disappointment, user growth was not what analysts had been expecting an easy twitter getting hit hard. Stuart that is our cue to take a closer look. Stock is down 10 . Not enough people signing up. People who are signed up by not tweeting as much as they would like. A lot of people say it is a niche platform. You dont use it very much. Charles every time i use it not one penny comes out of my pocket. Dont even see ads. You have management that seems to be disconnected from this process. The twitter peak before they went public, investors and for the most part a lot of users, these guys have a wakeup call to figure out you got to make money, you cant be comfortable, this comfortable with your stock collapsing. Got to figure out and explain to people how you are going to make money. Stuart any event driven company. Charles even when i think actually it wouldnt be as big as they thought. But here is the thing. Even when it is event driven worth of the money come from . No matter what you think of mark zuckerberg, there was criticism about not being mobile money making money for mobil in an instant he made the change. In an instant he made the change and a lot of believers on wall street. Stuart wakeup call for twitter. A new wall street journal poll came out this morning. More than half the country, 55 say the economic and political systems are stacked against them. That is your story. Wait a minute. That is not your story. It is not. You said adverse publicity about the markets being read keeps the little guy out. But this is the other side of the coin is and it . Charles not really. People dont like Big Government or big business, people dont like wall street. I just think most americans walk out there door and feel there is a shadow over them. This shadow is me against the system and i cant win. Why even try . Stuart that is what theyre being told. Before it is being redirected and it is not all is not true. I am the first to admit i see shenanigans in the stock market all day long. Today there would be a stock trading three times average daily volume and tomorrow and upgrade from a major firm on wall street. Will happen right now. You got to look beyond that to your own self interest and your own self preservation and again over a long period Great Companies those stocks gallup, bad Company Stocks the down. Stuart look at microsoft. Millennials help president obama and the democrats get elected but is the tide turning . After the break new numbers show Younger Voters losing their faith in the white house. The dow was up 7. Latte or au lait . Cozy or cool . Meow or woof . Exactly the way you want it. Find your sleep number setting only at a sleep number store. Know better sleep with sleep number. Stuart we felt we had to bring use this. You two hints about what he is of to. Record time mile and chugging beer. We will show you the whole video, full details 15 minutes from now. We are down one point on the dow industrials, we and the price of gold 1293, hovering around 1300 for couple weeks. Check the price of oil, we are down 99 a barrel now. We have at near record 400 Million Barrels of oil in storage. We are not using very much. Supply of, price down. Do you listen to music on pandora . That stock is moving lower today, 3 lower quite a hit. Look at the chinese twitter, b we webo. Americas twitter is down 10 . Some polls for you on millennials. 20 or early thirtysomethings. Millennials have historically low levels of trust in government, 32 of these youngsters trusted the president to do the right thing. Political prospect editor cayley mack and any joins me. You are our millenial. You are the litmus test of millennials for this program. Can you tell us that the tide is turning for millennials a little more against the president , a little more toward liberty and freedom and the constitution and republicans . That is right. Harvard polls really revealing, the president lost trust among millennials by 7 points in one year. That is startling but it should come as no surprise because the president promised jobs yet they are 15. 6 unemployment rate, promise Lower Health Care premiums, premiums have essentially trickle because of obamacare. Most of all the promise transparency, and this nsa scandal has resonated drastically among millennials and this is why we are seeing this loss of trust. Stuart does it matter . Another poll says 23 of millennials will likely vote in the upcoming midterm is. That is not a very high turnout. It is not. Turnout among midterms is low especially among young people. I dont think it will be a watershed moment for the midterm is but for the general election republicans have a real opportunity to spread this liberty message. Really interesting. I looked around my classroom and several students had sticky notes over the cameras on a computer and i asked why and they said they read stories about the fbi spying on them through their computers. Whether it is valid or not i am not sure but fascinating because this has hit millennials at a very personal to the point they are taking action. If republicans can grab that message is a winning one. Stuart last time we called you use that republicans were making an effort to go onto campuses and put their message in front of young people. Is that happening . Very few republicans are doing that. Rand paul is the ideal example what millennials and other candidates look to in order to court millennials. Next week rand paul is doing a google hang out on Civil Liberties and whether we are sacrificing the Fourth Amendment in the digital age. That is what republicans need to be doing. Every republican needs to be going on line, doing google, doing what the president has done. I dont think it is happening in a widespread manner. Stuart a lot of republicans oppose legalization of marijuana. That is not going to fly well on College Campuses i think. It is not but millennials only support legalizing at 44 something around there in the new harvard study saw dont think that is going to be a turning point issue but spying absolutely will be. Stuart did you decide last time we talked to you, you are either going to go into politics or television because you want my job or go into the law. You havent decided last time around. Have you made a decision . I have not decided yet. I will be up in new york during the summer and i will join you in the studio. I love television, politics and law, the things you love. Stuart we can expect to see you sitting next to me trying out for this position. Is that correct . Not to replace you, just join you as a panelist at some point. That is my only goal. Charles i love when people invite themselves. She is our favorite. I love sitting by you, charles. I am inviting myself to sit by you. Charles this can be your seat if you want. We already know that. Thank you, i appreciate that. Stuart there is big money in television. Think about that. Anytime you like. Thank you so much. Stuart up next highlights from my contentious interview with actress and environmentalist barry lohan and you, i cant believe this but you the viewers were not happy with me. Your reaction from facebook and twitter next. Why relocating manufacturingpany to upstate new york . I tell people its for the climate. The conditions in new york state are great for business. Comcast business built for business. Hundreds of billions of subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. Stuart if you fans of the question. Im trying to but you keep interrupting me. Stuart that was part of my Heated Exchange with daryl hannah over the building of the keystone pipeline. Many of you were turned off by that interview. Turned off by me. Chris says you are being an absolute overbearing brewed with daryl hannah. I dont agree with the word she is trying to say but you are just being rude. Another one of our viewers asks why have daryl hannah on if you arent going to allow her to finish a sentence . Not exactly an interview but rather an interruption. I do see your point and i appreciate the criticism. I like to have fire on this program and dont mean to come across as overbearing. I want to bring the viewer is the facts and if that means any to jump into a conversation to correct a factual inaccuracies of the person im interviewing i will do it. I am very sorry if i am overbearing and root but otherwise i thought was a pretty good interview from my point of view. Stop laughing, charles. Help ensure well point gives an upbeat outlook. I guess we should congratulate him but you are not going to try that. Stuart are we looking at an Olympic Event . Stuart i dont think so. Now this. Texas governor rick perry successfully wooing toyota to leave california. One wellknown blocker calls him a financial terrorists. We will explain it all next. I ys say be thman with the plan but with less ergy, moodiness, i had to do something. I saw mdoctor. A blood test showed it was low testosterone, not age. We talked about axiron the onlynderarm low t treaent that can restore t vels to normal in about two weeks in most men. Today, fannie mae and freddie mac celebrate payment in full to taxpayers. Together, weve created one of the greatest comebacks in our nations history. So, lets preserve and strengthen fannie mae and freddie mac. Because without them there really could be no place like home. A lot of people would like it to grow. That is ahead. Look at apple, hit a 52 week high earlier, 5. 99. To the big board, were two points. And flat markets, close to a closing high. All right, that that could be bad weather, obviously that is a factor. But 0. 1 , that is week. Stuart if you dont think it is a red flag. Charles there is no way you can take a victory lap on this. Stuart i say it is a fall as a problem. I dont think it is the weather. This is the president s policy which he pursued for five years, tax, regulate, spend a lot of money, go into debt, that is the problem. Charles the policy of taxes too. Taxes were devastating, electricity prices that high, Health Care Costs of gone up dramatically. 7 , 40 billion, imports were down, we had the polar for tax but couldnt export things . There is something wrong and i think it gets back to policy. This is a great economy. People should not write america off we will never live up to our potential on these draconian rules and rhetoric. Stuart congressman pete elson from texas is with us. Can i get your take on a miserable gdp report. Your take please. I have a hard time seeing it. Miserable, miserable report. Stuart can you convert that into republican votes in november of this year . Are you going to run gungho on the economy . Jobs, jobs, jobs, economy, economy, economy. That is what the American People care about and the administration failed them. Stuart hold on, i want to read something about the move of toyota from california to texas. It is all thanks to Texas Governor rick perrys plan to retract businesses with lower taxes so not everyone is happy with this. I have a quote from a popular blogger named hamilton nolan who had this to say about governor rick perry. Is rick perry a patriot . I would argue that to the contrary, rick perry is engage in domestic financial terrorism. Congressman olsen, if you are still with us, this guy is calling the governor of texas a terrorist. You response to that . Real simple. Moving their headquarters to texas for one reason to maximize their investment in fulltime pickup charts in 2006. They spent 2 billion building manufacturing plants, more money to move to their headquarters in texas. To see rick perry is some sort of terrorist is akin to saying john kerry is saying israel was apartheid. Just a cheap stunt. Stuart when you are on the energy and Commerce Committee and there are three votes coming gupta day. One could have serious implications for the export of liquefied natural gas. First of all tell us what that is about and secondly i think it will pass in the house but the president will do nothing with it so explain it first and tell us where you think it is going to go. That bill passed committee 15 minutes ago and i probably voted for that but it gets rid of all restrictions on export and sets a specific time line to get the oil and gas flowing across the world. Much of this makes sure he knows that america is going to step up, near monopoly on youre going away quickly. Not just europe, asia, all these other countries, some in this administration, 10 minutes ago in Congress Said this will have the whole world, we need to export quickly quickly quickly and this bill does that. Stuart am i right in saying if it gets through the senate does, the president wouldnt have any part of it. I cant understand why he wouldnt want it because he would give america more leverage over Vladimir Putin where europes Energy Supply is concerned. Exactly. President obama heat fossil fuels. We see that with the pipeline, sitting and ready to go for five years. President obama decided going to america. Stuart can you make that an issue in the november elections . We will. Is that an issue . We will make it an issue because the president is hurting our recovery. The job growth, gdp, 1 , 3 , 4 . Exporting energy, regulate reregulation and approve the keystone pipeline. Stuart you are up for reelection in texas. You have got to be. Can i ask what your opponent is running on . Is your opponent running away from obamacare . Running towards obamacare . Give us an idea what you are against. He is running for the obamacare. Use that weapon against him. Also run against fossil fuels. As we all know america is thriving because of energy. We have more oil and gas, keystone, 800,000 barrels a day coming down our country, he wants to send to china. Stuart we hear you. Congressman, thanks for joining us, see you again soon. Appreciate it. Charles is still here. He says he is going to make us some money with trulia. Charles is a realestate website. You go there for housing, you buy and sell, do the whole thing soup to nuts. It just to new 52 week high today. The stock pulled back, oversold, reported last night, missed by a penny, did really well on the top line and growth is growing dramatically and growing bigtime on mobile. Stock is really oversold, gets back over 40, could get a lot higher. Stuart do you know anybody . I dont know anybody who bought or sold house online through online realestate company. Do you . Charles not personally. People doing it. Hear is the thing, you want an apartment you want to look at 20 apartments today . These guys have an amazing business model. It is so much more richly valued than this one and sometimes you pay a price for getting cute. A lot of times go with the best one no matter what that this stock is down a lot. Stuart take a look at this one. We call this our g whiz section. For babies made with smart fabric. It can tell parents the babys temperature when the child wakes up. Tells you a lot about the child. We have the company that dreamed it up and they will be with us next. Passion. Became your business. At t can help simplify how you manage it. So you can focus on what you love most. Up next we have a smart one. Stuart a new apps, another one, this one is called netflix roulette. Used and you dont have to scroll through other choices. That i get that right. A lot of options on netflix. Find something you want to watch and spend an hour looking good all the time in the titles. You type in three fields. You watch a movie or tv show, to kind of rating, you pick 4 or 5 and then putting it either a key word, directors named or an actor. Tells you what movies to watch. Stuart i like that idea. When you have unlimited choice you dont even know where to start. You need something that narrows the choice and this appears to do that. Stuart i spent an hour trying to find some to watch the netflix because theyre too many options. Stuart thank you very much. Microsoft selling its x box in china. Does that help microsofts stock. The question is whether this will be Challenging Market or this is a promising market. Stock is down half of 1 sitting at 40. 32 a share. A time that video games altogether will completely banned in china to concerns about the impact they would have on the children. Theyre working closely with the chinese partner in order to have this lunch. We will see what numbers they have in september. The stock is down 1 2 . Stuart i did notice that. Smart phone, smart watches. Intel is working on all new line of what is called the next frontier, smart fabric. How does that work . Here we have the Vice President of intels new device group as well as general manager of intels smart innovative team. Welcome to the show. Good to have you with us. Happy to be here. Stuart take me through this. Smart fabric. Lets suppose i use some of this march fabric and make a set of curtains, drapes. What is that drape going to tell me about my life, myself, my house or anything else . You can really imagine Computing Power has been smaller and more power eat fish and we can distribute throughout your life, whether the clothing you are wearing on your body, items around your house. You can imagine the upholstery, essentially knows who you are by the shape of the face you make and whether you are lying down or sitting down you can imagine smart curtains that actually are a more effective way to detect smoke or a fire or decide how much light to go through but whatever your doing in the house. A lot of great opportunities in every part of your life. Stuart im not trying to men this. It is in the formative stages and the marketplace has to have a chance to decide how this is going to function. What is it going to be useful for . Are you in a position to put Computing Power into carpets, so fars, kerns, bathroom towels for example. You can do all of that. Is that right . We are at your the stages. One of the exciting things as a company like intel has spent a lot of time and energy making computing more efficient and smaller. Stuart on the screen, and the onesy, that is made of this smart fabric. Inside that fabric you got some kind of sensor which transmits the babys condition to the parents and it shows up on a mug, just showed a picture of the mug, the parent has demanded different room and find out, there it is, what the baby is doing and temperature and all the rest of it. Have i described this accurately . That is exactly right. It attaches to, intel developed called at its. And away coarsely, if theyre breeding, their heart rate. You can connect that to the mud or bottle warmer some milk is warm as soon as the baby is ready to take it. Stuart a lot of mothers, parents, mothers and fathers very worried about fitz. When i first had little tiny babies, you are very worried what is going on in the middle of the night . I can see a use for this product. Is it in service yet . Can i buy it yet . I would have got more sleep when my children were born if they had peace of mind knowing something was happening or i would be alerted. As it was i had to get up every couple hours. Stuart how far are we from putting kerns, smart curtains on the market with a use that i can think is useful . How far away. If you look at. Smart thermostats, smoke detectors in your house. And fabric and textile products in your life are going to have intelligence and sensing in some. Of the one it had better work. We dont have false alarms. Are you sure of this stuff . There is a lot of engineering and hard work to make these things reliable. And costeffective. We got great people working on it but this is an effort of not just the technical industry, intel, in the Consumer Electronics space, people in the fashion space, home furnishings, the thing that is exciting is this is a new set of alliances of Companies Working together to make great value for consumers and new products we couldnt imagine a few years ago. Stuart i couldnt imagine smart turns a couple years ago and cant imagine them right now. Steve holmes, intel, always appreciate it. Question, and Million Dollars in new london . What does a Million Dollars get you in paris to kevin lenos. Nonetheless we compare realestate location location location. We compare all next. Stuart if you are curious about a particular stock, just tweet us using hash tag ask charles payne, ask us about the company, asked about the stock. Not me, charles payne. He knows what hes talking about. Charles it was amazing stock. A two part company. The maintenance people will see the thermostat. It is a real big business. The automotive business, low hanging fruit is starting to fade a little bit. Cars world, people were placed them, starting to slow down a little bit. What scares me in the last earnings, missed the streak two quarters in a row. Going back to last year when they beat the st. They said the Building Business isnt going to grow. The automotive slowing, nothing on the business side, i am really worried the stock is breaking down big time, broke the key downside numbers you want to hold. Stuart whoever asked about it your message is watch out. Charles i would not buy it right here. If you are in it you want to place the stock. If you have a long maturity make bigtime money, dont give us that. Stuart one of the popular sentiments on this program is what we call hot properties, where we look at the property here or there, worth the same amount of money so what do you get . Today were looking at what does 1 million get you in london . What does 1 million get you in paris . Cheryl casone who runs this segment is here. Cheryl lets go home. I am curious what you think of this property in london. I am told is an amazing part of london. Very expensive. Just over 1 million u. S. One bedroom one bath apartment, 912 square feet that comes out 1100 square feet. It is a groundfloor apartment, some lawyers a little bit, they did this refurbish the apartment, everything is new, fixtures are new but something i want to ask you about, one of the caveat to buying this apartment is six years remaining on a lease, originally went over 20 years, something that is not indicative of the u. S. What does that mean . Stuart you dont own it. Pay your Million Dollars, you dont own the place free and clear out right. You own it for six years and you pay 1 million. So you have not bought it. You just bought a piece of the lease so that is all you got. I cant believe that is legal but that is interesting. London realestate. This you by, this area of paris to the north, 1bedroom, one bedroom apartment, a little over 1 million, 1bedroom, one bath, smaller, 15 square feet, in paris you are going to have a small apartment. There is an elevator on the fourth floor, and it has toilets which i find about a paris apartment. To people need separate toilets . That is one of the selling points. Stuart what is the second toilet . I dont know. Honestly, if you think about it, buying in london versus buying in paris, i have a particular paris for vacation. As an investment i dont know. Stuart i looked at both of these as you describe the man no question london is much more expensive because you are paying 1 million for six years, you are paying one Million Dollars in paris. You own it forever. Charles you know you are not funny at. And the paris one. I will let you know. Stuart a great series. It is fascinating to compare and contrast location and location. Any idea what youre doing next . No. Back to the u. S. Thanks very much. Stuart the economy barely grew in the first two month of the year, on the doorsteps of the recession. That is a question. Blame the weather . Theres a question. For the president s policy. Theres another question. We will kickoff whole new hour of varney and company with all those questions answered for you. My dad has aor afib. Brillation, he has the most common kind. Its not caused by a heart valve problem. Dad, it says your afib puts you at 5 times greater risk of a stroke. Thats why i take my warfarin every day. But it looks like maybe we should ask your doctor about pradaxa. In a clinical trial, pradaxa® Dabigatran Etexilate mesylate . Was proven superior to warfarin at reducing the risk of stroke. And unlike warfarin, with no regular blood tests or dietary restrictions. Hey thanks for calling my doctor. Sure. Pradaxa is not for people with artificial heart valves. Dont stop taking pradaxa without talking to your doctor. Stopping increases your risk of stroke. Ask your doctor if you need to stop pradaxa before surgery or a medical or dental procedure. Pradaxa can cause serious, sometimes fatal, bleeding. Dont take pradaxa if you have abnormal bleeding or have had a heart valve replaced. Seek immediate medical care for unexpected signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Stick with technology. Get the flexcare platinum from Philips Sonicare and save now. Philips sonicare stuart this is not a good day for the obama administration. The economy has stalled. The president s own policies, in my opinion, are to blame. Here comes star wars number seven. With the original stars now in their 70s. Is coffee psychologically addictive . A think tank in paris says taxing the rich shores any quality. We will look at that very closely. This is a pivotal day for politics, business and your money. We will cover it all. I am not predicting recession even though these numbers are close to negative growth. We are just in this rut where we should be growing to a percent that we should be. We have only grown a little over 2 . Stuart that was the Heritage Foundation chief economist Stephen Moore in our next hour. One 10th of 1 jump. That is a snails pace grows. The white house lames the weather. They are trying to spin it positively, two. The report also shows the positive impact of the implementation of the Affordable Care act. The editorial board, mary is with us. It is hard to be positive about this statement. It is one quarter. Weather may have played a small impact. The larger picture here is that we cannot break out of this two3 growth that we are in. You have to ask why. Because we have fred style policies and it is giving us a french style approach. Stuart how can you say that obamacare helped in the First Quarter . You cannot. It is ridiculous. They are struggling for something good to say. Liz they are saying personal spending is up. People may be lost their policies and how to buy policies. Administration, you can blame the weather. We have heard that since 2011. Is there a broad picture going on in the economy . Look at where Housing Starts are now. They are really lagging. People cannot afford to buy. You have people coming out of college. I think all of these trends, all of the red tape, all of the taxes, they are starting to bleed into the larger economy. It will not be the robust four or 5 that we had in the regular recovery. Stuart more than half disapprove of obamas handling of the recovery. I had to laugh at the white house statement. I am paraphrasing he iets thromoreoneyt puic hool ts ise e mimum ge a pay people not to work and throw people out of work in the lower incomes and lets extend the insurance. This is the other statement that they made. Stuart they think that the way out is raise the minimum wage, extendce to payliz 10 million n the president took office. It is the cheapest stimulus that you can get. Stuart you are trying to get into this. The report you did yesterday, 16 million american families, they are working. It is so disturbing for so many reasons. Stuart lets get straight to the markets. Not that far away for the record closing high. Desperately trying to do the math. Nineteen points from the alltime closing high. Nineteen points are 29 points. Twitter. That is taking a hit. Not adding as many users as investors would really like to see. Down 10 . Now look at ebay. That stock is down 12yard wide . They have a disappointing outlook. They are bringing money back to america from overseas. They are paying a billion dollars in taxes to the government. Why are they doing this . Liz i do not know why they are doing it. It looks like they have good opportunities. They want to ramp up their mobile payments. That is what their reasons are. They push themselves into a lawsuit. Stuart apple build 17 billion just the other day. They are using it to buy back. They could have done the same thing. Right. They could borrow at low, low rates right now. Stuart i think i smell a lawsuit. I would say, what are you doing with my money . Voluntarily giving it to the government . I am kind of speechless on that one, stuart. Stuart to nicole. Well point. Big health insurer. The stock is up. Tell me why. Nicole a couple of reasons. They raised their outlook for 2014. The stock is up 5 . They said it is the individual exchanges that were recruited under healthcare reform at a profit. So far so good good fair pricing assumptions actually reflect their views that they put together. The stock is doing great. Stuart well point just breaks above 100. I want to know if apple just broke above 600. And apple are i watch may be coming sooner than we think. All right, lauren, what is this all about . Sounds great. Apple needs something. That is the problem. Do people want and i watch . Half of americans said, yes. Apple, we criticize them for not being innovative enough. They may put some environment into their i watch so you know what the weather will be. Health, fitness it is expected to be very slim. It is slim and stylish. It tells you when you need an umbrella and how many steps he walked that day. Stuart you think that is a musthave product . You know what nike adjusted with their watch. There may be some sort of cool collaboration going on. Stuart i want and innovative brandnew fantastic product that breaks around. A watch that tells me when i need my umbrella will probably not make it. You want to print from your wrist. Stuart shall we move on, mary . Short. Stuart the senate is starting to vote now on the minimum wage bill that will certainly fail. Is that right . It is likely to fail. Okay. And then there is this. Just 37 of employers say they would hire new workers this year. Only 37 . They would only do that if the minimum wage stays where it is. Why do you make of raising the minimum wage to jolt the economy . What do you say . The president and ms. White house want to ignore the reality and the fax. They said that raising the minimum wage would actually kill 500 million jobs. We have employers, almost 40 of the nations employers say, hey, guys, if you dont raise the minimum wage, we will hire more people. I think this president is living in star wars. Really. Stuart i do not see anything to do with economic terms at all. This is pure politics. You are just not making enough money. I will fix it for you. Vote for me. It is all politics. You talked about this a lot in the previous segment. It should be about economics and the number of people that arent working that need jobs. They are giving it to people who are not incentivized to work. We are extending the unemployment. We are just saying do not work, you will be rewarded on the backs of hardworking people. It is wrong. Stuart we have a paris based research firm. Tax the rich. That is pure politics. I dont think it has anything to do with economics at all. I bet it is repeated verbatim by this administration. Am i right . Yes. It has already been repeated. We have so many shut down and deals. We have already raised taxes on higher earners to almost 40 now. If you earned over 400,000, 450,000, you are paying 40 . I think it is called the organization for equal operations bill. We raise taxes on the rich. It will stunt economic growth. It will prevent less risk taking. Fewer jobs. Stuart thank you very much for joining us, crystal. It is always a pleasure. You used to be the conservative, black chick. Bide day i am owner of the baker right group as well. Stuart College Graduates are way more likely to be heavy drinkers than high school dropouts. I am not sure that is true. Doctor ablow will take a look at it. Attention, coffee drinkers. It may be a psychological addiction. Not entirely a physical addiction. Stay right there. The doctor is putting us all on the couch next. Stuart sales went up for garmin. The gps people stopped at a 52 week high earlier. Look at dreamworks. First loss in five quarters. Down 10 . The cast of a new star wars movie. This is all about popular franchise. Star wars seven. Then we have this picture. I know you cannot see clearly. This lady here, i have never heard of her. Look at what disney is doing. Out of this cast of people, you have two women and two people that are not white. Stuart that is that criticism . There is to the women and too few minorities. 11 principal actors and actresses. Two are women and two are nonwhite. Stuart i still think that it will be a blockbuster. They will do well. I have another number for you. College graduates are 82 more likely to classify themselves as daily drinkers than high school dropouts. What do you say, doctor . College graduates have more opportunities. It is a big question that remains unresolved. Frankly, we know why this would be the case, if it is the case. In order to be an alcoholic, you have to have Alcohol Consumption interfere with either your professional activities or your relationships. If you are drinking a glass of wine or two a night, it may be good for your heart. You have to stop. Our marriage is on the rocks because of this. Stuart got it. New Research Suggesting that caffeine is an addiction, not just physical, but psychological. I think there is a psychological addiction to caffeine. I think so. I think people need to find out the why behind all of these behaviors. Anything you do compulsively. Is it that i do not like my work . Here is the thing, i am not sure we are ready to start treating people. When we are legalizing marijuana. We will have a flood of people and we are worried about the brew. Stuart i have another one for you. Yesterday we had an nfl football star. My team says, too much of a hard time. Just listen to this for a second. You do not play football. You are 5foot 8 inches. 160 pounds. That is it. You do not play football. I play a little bit. Stuart you heard that. What am i missing here . Did i do something wrong . I would say, something more like this, i am so impressed with you because pound for pound, you are more powerful than anybody else in the nfl. There may have been a slightly dismissive tone. Maybe. It is not like you, generally. Did you play football . Stuart soccer. I did not play football either. It is a tough game. Pound for pound, man, you are the toughest guy out there. Stuart you are right. I should have done that. It is a cultural bridge that we may need to build here. Your sense of humor is just a little different. Stuart thank you, doctor. I appreciate it, 41. I have always liked it. And stop with the comments about my hair. Hey, doctor, that was a lot of fun. Stuart take care. See ya. 0. 1 economic growth. Dismal. My take next. My take next. True businessgrade internet comes my take next. With secure wifi for your business. It also comes with public wifi for your customers. Not so with internet from the phone company. I would email the phone company to inquire as to why they have shortchanged these customers. But that would require wifi. Switch to comcast Business Internet and get two Wifi Networks included. Comcast business built for business. Stuart an emotional victory. A threetwo victory in the playoffs. Does any public figure need to be punished for what they say and private . Here is my take. This is a failure of policy. Werededownhession air. Yes, i know we have had a harsh winter. That did affect our performance. I think the left is making excuses here. For five years, we have been told that tax, spend and regulate would give us a good economy. You think that will give us private sector growth. Dan, there is the interstate toll tax. We can spend on infrastructure. Do not forget. Does he care about the economy or prosperity . He cares about redistribution. He cares about taking it from this grouping giving it to that group. He thinks that is winning he wants t i fundamental changed ama. I think that, temrari, he has indeed done that. But america is not blind. It is surely obvious that Middle America is not prospering. You cannot hide it. Everybody knows it. Everybody feels it. You can blame the worker or the republicans. Or anything else you like. They are all excuses for policy failure. Lets tell it how it is. 0. 1 growth is pathetic. [ ingiplau with more than a 10 . [ ingiplau change in aftermarket trading. All the tech stocks with a market cap. Of at least 50 billion. Legalzoom has helped start over 1 million businesses, turning dreamers into business owners. And were here to help start yours. It is the president s ultimate responsibility; correct . You clearly, whatever. Stuart that was kathleen sibelius. Now, she is refusing to appear even though she is still the hhs secretary. The last time she appeared was about a month ago to talk about the increase to the budget. It is something that i think needs to be questioned. Stuart wait for the confirmation hearings or her replacement. The contractor hired to fix the Obamacare Exchanges says it will cost 121 million to get the sites ready for a second. In 2015. 121 million more. The dow is close to record territory. Find 2. 5 million. Banned from the nba for life four races comments. Dallas mavericks owner, mark cuban, had some interesting comments about this yesterday. What donald said was wrong. There is no place for racism in the nba. I do not want to be associated with people who have that position. In terms of should we kick him out, you know, should we start taking steps to really condemn people for what they say in the privacy of their own home, that is a slippery slope i do not want to get on. Stuart he is laying out some interesting turf right there. Kennedy, welcome back. You are big on privacy. Yes. Stuart do you think we are now at the point where any public person who makes any comment on a contentious comment on a subject of any kind can have it come up if it was recorded illegally and then punished . If you were the ceo of a fortune 500 company, you would have been fired. Is it any different because he owns a team in the league . No. He has entered into an agreement with the league. They can decide whether or not his behavior is okay. You said something horrible trying to get a reaction and somebody recorded that. Could that be used against you later . In this case, yes. Should he be protected by the law . No. He was being goaded into saying stupid things by a woman who is 75 years younger than him. She is a total gold digger. She wanted to ruin him because shelley sterling is going after her. She said she was going to and him and, boy, was she right. It is not difficult to gerri rig your phone to record conversations when you are talking. You think that they are a bigger threat than everyday people. The responsibility lies with donald sterling. He is the one with money and a high profile and reputation. You are a public person on tv. Donald sterling, he had the responsibility when it comes to what he says. I guess it depends on what you have to lose. An important part of this story is context. If this were an isolated comment, i do not think that he would be banned for life. They could lose it all from one comment that they have made in the past. Stuart get him out of basketball. He does not belong. Half of the participants are african american. It still raises this issue. No one wants to be in the position of defending donald sterling. He is a horrible person. That is true. I think we had a big fight last time you were on the show. Laddie were my favorite color, pink. Stuart thank you very much. To put it simply, the economy is just crawling along. The real Halftime Report is coming up next. Really. So our business can be on at ts network for 175 dollars a month . Yup. All five of you for 175. Our clients need a lot of attention. Theres unlimited talk and text. Were working deals all day. Our best value plans ever for business. Adp report said 220,000 jobs were added to the private sector for this month. The highest change since november. 210,000 jobs are expected to have created the unemployment rate. The senate has just updated the minimum wage to 10. 10 an hour. Democrats needed 60 votes. They got 52. Stay right there. We are talking gdp. Stuart 1244 eastern time. Lauren, liz, right here. The gdp number, i knew i had to go to you first. Someone tells me you will not blame that on the weather. We do not have the growth. We do not have the jobs. We do not have the housing. Let me tell you, that paper is all about one thing. They are tapering because it is a failed economic policy. The growth have nothing. How will we get to that 2 growth . I agree. Stuart we have some stocks that we are watching for you today. Will the jobs report the bad . I think that it will. I think it will be telling. I think it will be telling in terms of what the fed will do ultimately. I think longer term they will be looking at fridays numbers two. I think it will be very much on the downside. Stuart lauren, what do you say . The number will not be big enough to make a difference in the number of people that do not work in this company. The stock is down 11 right now. They do have the advertisers there. How about you . You are buying it for 37. 93. I do not think twitter has much further to go. I think that there will be a cap here. Digg users are diminishing. Stuart scott, i do not know why they are doing this. They just do not trust what is happening around them in europe and asia. I would think about suing because i do not want to be giving that money to the government. The dow is closing in on record territory. I think you still see a selloff coming. I do. If we do not reach new highs. I think the market goes down. If we do reach new highs and stays there for a little while, then we are going down. We can see probably 1050. Stuart thank you very much. All of them are down. I want to know how you are preparing for the fed minutes later on this afternoon. You are waiting with bated breath. Yes. I did not need to remind anyone behind me. Number two, they have that extra emergency meeting yesterday. I think we have something coming up. I just do not know what. Stuart nicole, what about the guys on the New York Stock Exchange floor. Are they waiting with bated breath . I will be nursing this crumb cupcake from now through the fed statement. Stuart all right. I want you to come into this. It will not happen. You can never rely on anything that the fed does or says. You are right. I think it is a nonevent for the general public. Stuart okay. All right. What do you say, liz . All i care about is interest rates. I am always looking to what the fed says. Stuart is this what gets you fired up to come to work . Absolutely not. Stuart i am glad i asked everybody. [laughter] you asked. I know you are excited. Stuart we have a twohour show. We are an hour and 50 minutes into it. That is the first time ive vented the fed. That is the real Halftime Report. Whats your policy . Stuart is there anything they wont tax . They want to tax those interstate highways. Explain it to me. Liz the federal government for years has said no to letting polls on state highways, if you go on a road trip usually you only pay a certain toll. Now you will pay more money to go on a road trip. We see some states doing already, on the turnpike but this would be across the board. Every state would be allowed to charge drivers more money to use interstate highways. Stuart i already pay a federal tax on gasoline that goes towards the highway. But i already paid a federal tax on gasoline. That is not enough. Liz no politician will raise the gas tax. It is the white house potato chief to go even nier. We see organ for example testing new ways to tax drivers as well, miles traveled is one idea out there. Stuart revenue for the gas tax is going down. Liz the Highway Trust Fund is insolvent in the treasury department. Stuart they wont tax miles driven. And in the state highway. No end to it. Your take is next. Stuart we had a great show today. I am going to give you your take on what you thought was the most interesting items on the show. Barbara says this about Drinking Coffee being bad for you psychologically. She says i have never known coffee to cause harm to anyone but a person drinking it. If i am addicted is my business. Nanny to death by the government, dont give them fodder to go after my coffee. And millennials, it is my hope millennials are smart enough to realize gop offers no solutions. The problem isnt fixed by either party. It is caused by both. Do you have something to add on . This is a blockbuster expected to gross 200 million. And the vanity fair article, could have been stuart too few women and minorities. Might be true. Liz you will be hearing about it. Stuart you have to translate. They pay the old cast with people never heard of. Stuart we are out of time. But here is adam shapiro in for dierdre bolton. Adam appreciate your take on the pitiful 0. 1 growth.
