I think for the most part its fascinating that the Clinton Campaign created this sense of a coverup from a friday to a sunday. I think that there was i think thats where it creates a bit of uncertainty in general, maria. She comes out yesterday, Hillary Clinton saying i feel great, yet, she has pneumonia. It does create this uncertainty of whens the real story behind it. We know its pneumonia at this point, that this is what the doctors are saying revealed friday. Why wasnt the story told on friday . I think the American People wants the honesty. I think in terms to have markets, you know, obviously the markets theyre watching the race closely. I think this is a matter of saying that they feel that theres a sense of uncertainty of unpredictability coming from both candidates, from a trump candidacy or a Hillary Clinton candidacy. I think its a big challenge for both of these these president ial candidates to calm the waters down, but part of it comes with an old saying which is the truth shall set you free and i think thats an area where the Clinton Campaign did not do very well this time around. Maria caitlin, it was first the actual sickness. People are worried about the health. Now we find out that she was diagnosed with pneumonia on friday and the campaign didnt say anything. Thats opening up another can of warms that the transparency is not there with the clinton camp. Its an interesting question why they didnt discloses that she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Her supporters have argued that, you know, she had pneumonia and still maintained her schedule going to the 9 11 memorial but raises questions of why didnt you just say that she had it. I know that they are facing scrutiny as it pertains to people raising questions about her health and her competency and stamina as donald trump puts it. It is questionable why she didnt release it. Specially when it comes to the issue of health. We have seen these two candidates be, i think, the less transparent that we have seen from president ial campaigns, Donald Trumps doctor with that statement, we know how that went. Harlan color me skeptical, we have gotten so many different stories from the Clinton Campaign as to what is actually going on with her. It was fine, it was a cough, she was overheated, dehydrated, pneumonia, the story keeps changing and so im not really sure that i buy that this is all thats wrong with her particularly because of the symptoms that we see out of Hillary Clinton, a lot of the symptoms between the coughing and the lack of stability have been an issue since she was at the state department. The big problem for her is voters are wondering whats really wrong with her. Is it something far worse than that. To the point of the markets is throwing a a lot of uncertainty, concern with less than 60 days with the president ial election. Maria do you think its part of the market selloff, the uncertainty . Markets felt that hillary was going to win. Kevin 70 in the markets, youve even seen Clinton Presidency on the cover maria thats a good point. Kevin because of the way shes pulled in the swing states, how she came out of her convention, so she was pretty much going to win. Maria im going to continue obama strategy. That continuity even though not good its still continuity. Harlan mercedes, harlan hill here, do you think it makes her sympathetic character. Nobody wants to see an elderly person struggling. When i saw a video of her struggling to the van, i mean, it it made me think of my mother. I think we think about our parents saying first of all, we have to remember that the presidency even in the white house when youre running for president and when you go to the white house, it is grueling. When i worked at the white house you started at 6 00 a. M. And finished at 10 00 oclock at night plus the travel. Theres so much intensity in that job. You age in that job as president and so i think that the Health Concerns, its important, we live in a time where backing president ial history, for example, you had fdr, you had Woodrow Wilson with Health Issues that they were able to cover up, with the 24hour news cycle you cant cover up. It doesnt work in today and age. For Hillary Clinton its important to be outfront and honest. If she would have been honest with the beginning we should have been similar pat thetic that the woman is sick and she needs to rest. You cant play this sense of i feel great and then all of a sudden come out hours later with the pneumonia story. I dont think it works. Maria watching her fall on her feet, it was not a good luck. People are very concerned thinking that it could be a lot worse just because she couldnt stand up getting into her car. I think the transparency issue is the real key here, look, everybody gets sick. Candidates get sick. Its been a long, long campaign. Question of why they didnt say it earlier, the question of why donald trump wont release an Extensive Health report, clinton wont release updated report, these are for candidates. Kevin you brought up a good point that donald trump. Most important came out yesterday that the twitter fingers didnt get the best of him. Joining us right now phil orlando. Even before fridays selloff you were expecting selling in this market, why . Weve been expecting 5 to 10 correction. Stocks in our view are price today perfection here at 19 times earnings, the earnings havent been great, the Economic News hasnt been great. You have the growing uncertainty about the Federal Reserve and fiscal policy coming out of the election, for all those reasons we feel that a pullback was warranted. Maria in other words, 5 to 10, youre still expecting the selling to continue, we are sort of in the middle of it, then . 2100 market is where we are here. We can pull back to 2,000 or so. Lets get the 10 back and see where we stand. Kevin i think a lot of investors are trying to figure out is this a buying opportunity, okay, do i wait, do i get in and purchase because theres so much cash out there. Theyre trying to figure out is there something on the horizon that we dont know that could make it stay low so its not a buying opportunity, one of the biggest things that concern me is the secondhalf earnings, they havent come down. You have seen company give poor guidance, do you see that being an impeddent for future returns . I think its a huge issue. Consensus earnings around 135. We are at 125. The reason for that we are concerned about the direction of Energy Prices and the dollar which are two critical variables. If we are right in being too cautious or more cautious and thats got to work its way back. We are going to start to see some of that revaluation now. We found market move allot after fed official spoke friday. What kind of clues are you looking for . There have been a number of fed speakers over the last two weeks starting at jackson and theyve been telling us that despite the fact that the data right now, inflation and labor market data, in our view doesnt support fed hike. The fed seems as if they want to force a hike here in september. Breynard, someone thats very smart and influence and she has Janet Yellens ear, the question is on what side of that argument does she come down at 1 00 oclock this afternoon. Kevin ken one of the arguments is they are trying to led to that. You have seen recovery to equity markets, not earnings expansion. I think the fed will not raise and look at the market, weve got a above 20, its really volatile right now and earnings arent that great and we are seeing the market pull back. They are letting the market not to raise rates. Do you think its one of the biggest data points they look at . I think youre spot on. Our view is that september would be rate hike. We went back over the summer, looked at the history of fid rate changes in president ial election years and what we found over the last 30some odd years only once has the fed hike Interest Rates between the labor day to election day period and the reason for that is they dont want to be impacting the economy or the markets or the election itself. So from our perspective, the smartest course of action will be to do nothing in two weeks. But thats not what its telling us. Maria then theres this. Big italian banks, the story in europe is still negative, these italian banks continue to see real losses. Well, the last time the fed hiked Interest Rates was mid last year. The next two quarters we now know, First Quarter and Second Quarter down. The market response was 12 . If the fed tries to force a rate hike, do we trade off another 5 to 10 or so, thats absolutely possible. Thats what the market is concerned about. Kevin that has to go into guidance. When the fed raised rates last december, 4 rate hikes this year alone which spooked the market. If the fed does raise rates, they need to have better guidance saying, we said we were going to be slow and steady, maybe one hike, maybe two. They need to give that guidance. I think thats what really spooks the market. Agreed. We are on course for fourrate hike this is year. What data are you looking at, theres zero chance the fed can justify four hikes given of whats happening in the economy. It appears that the street was right than the fed. Maria what about Hillary Clintons news yesterday . We all watch it had video of her stumbling. Left the 9 11 ceremony earlier than expected. Potentially. I had pneumonia personally a couple of years ago, i felt like i was hit with a mack truck. My doctors gave me zpack. They shut my travel for about a month. Shes just canceled a california trip. If her doctor shut her down for some period of time not traveling, not flying because of the risk of a relapse, does that impact the election . Thats a tough question. So what challenges do we face tracking them online but also not being foiled when they hand off their cell phones or flip through borders . Human intelligence. My friend and i talked about this on the network. The idea of penetrating the network, putting people, frankly at risk. Doing those things that you see on tv, people have to go under cover to see how theyre moving from point a to point b and who all is in the network, you must penetrate the network and we are not doing well with that. Harlan what strikes me is that donald trump very early started talking about immigration, securing the border and i think in part immigration and securing the border are National Security issues. Correct. Harlan you mentioned the isis but if we dont secure our borders, nothing is stopping them to going to mexico and crossing through texas. Does donald trump need to hammer that home as a National Issue and focus on the fundamentals of beating terrorism . You have to do both. The Border Protection is paramount. Plus, we have the huge issue with drug cartels coming from the south border. Thats not a small issue. Anybody can come through to include terrorist organizations. Secondly, regarding fundamentals, we have to lift our strategy to match our strategy to budget to what our capabilities should be to win the war. The other thing, we are not doing everything we can to win. One of the things i talk today senior members of the pentagon, the pentagon has not given the authority to go after the targets like we should. Maria why . Politics. Kevin what one of the biggest thing that happened was intelligence sharing. Are we sharing enough intelligence with our friends over in europe as well . We hear attacks in france, are we helping the french, are we helping helping the germans . John brennon admitted before the paris attack last year that cia had intelligence and failed to share it with the french. We are not. We have to relook the entire sharing process. Theres been real compromise like the nowden compromise and people are pulling back a little bit. Going back to 9 11 attacks, all the pieces were there. We failed to put them together because of policy. It was a policy failure. So we have that fix that again. Maria yeah. Harlan what do you think of Barack Obamas Drone Program. We are not able to extract intelligence from the actors or from the site, so how damaging is that . We have to go back to capturing people for the human intelligence we need to penetrate the network. Thats become a Political Tool to show progress that is not really there. We have to get back to understanding that that is but one thing we should be using a spectrum of tools. Im against the use of Drone Program as political narrative tool to show we are doing something that we are not. Also, when i was doing it in 03, 85 assurance that that target is who we thought it was. Resulted in killing of hostages as well as people who are innocent. That became a tool that politicians looked at to say, hey, we are winning the war, but in reality we are having huge Collateral Damage and not hitting targets as we were.
