Well, i think it is really a shame republicans split on that vote. A lot of folks split on sort of a technicality saying, well it was a constitutional point of order and the spending bill was not unconstitutional per se. The spending bills are unconstitutional in his actions. I think that is splitting hairs too finely. Reality we are far more united against executive amnesty as that vote shows. Well have a chance to show that next year. Im for fighting back any way possible against this unconstitutional action. Lou with your appointment to the Judiciary Committee in addition to all your other prestigious and very Important Committee assignments, the house Judiciary Committee reported out four bills to the house. Yeah. Lou i support those four bills. I have said pointblank, that legislation represents leadership on the part of the republican party. Yeah. Lou on the issue of illegal immigration and Border Security. Why could that not be the initiative that republicans in the house and senate combine to drive forward as true, viable, reeffective reform . I think it can be and im hopeful it will be early next congress. One avenue im pushing, we need to do a bunch of things at once, but one avenue im push something strong proenforcement legislation like that. I think we move forward with that in the house and in the senate. We should put those things on the president s deck. That is one goal of mine. I think we need to do other things at the same time. One thing ive announced im going to oppose this new attorney general nomination that. Will be on the Judiciary Committee for hearings to oppose it because that person would be a key person in the Obama Administration helping president obama implement his illegal, unconstitutional executive action. Lou and, on loretta lynch, in opposing her, what is the practical effect . Will it, is there sufficient objection to her to, to avoid void her as the president s nominee . Lou, we dont know yet. I hope there is. There certainly could be if voters help us focus on this travesty of executive amnesty, that is flatout unconstitutional. It would also help if we went back to the 60vote rule for executive nominations in the new senate. Both of those things are a bit up in the air. Lou no question youre one of the most talented and experienced and brightest people in the senate and i can point to a lot of folks who would argue with you but i appreciate your opinion. Lou imagine that, a politician with detractors. But your alliance with Elizabeth Warren, joining forces for her to remove the Financial Regulation roll back under doddfrank, that was an alignment people really got their hair on fire about. Well, i know it surprise ad lot of people. It really shouldnt if folks followed my work in terms of too big to fail. For instance ive been working with Sherrod Brown for a couple of years now to try to truly end too big to fail including by having much higher capital standards for megabanks. This was a similar related issue and i dont think that taxpayer should be basically subsidizing risky behaviors through fdic insurance and thats what this issue was about. Lou to put it in vastly oversimplified language, what the senator is referring to is rollback of legislation that now permits fdicinsured institutions to maintain derivative trading within their Corporate Structure which means that the fdic is the senator just said, will be insuring what would be a rick that doddfrank did not, did not anticipate or, point of fact, tried to remove from the legislation. Lou, if we had blocked the rollback, as you know, those derivatives could still happen. They just wouldnt be under fdic insurance umbrella. Would not be essentially subsidized by the taxpayer in that way. So they would have been more properly priced in the market somewhere else. Lou and, senator, as you look toward the year ahead of us, do you think that this is going to be a constructive, Effective Senate and house that will be able to do, to do business with this president who refused to compromise through the first six years . Well, first of all moving beyond the Harry Reid Senate has to be constructive around productive. Im celebrating this week because this is the last few days of the Harry Reid Senate in history. That has to be positive to end that. I hope we get to a more productive place with the president obama but that is largely up to him. That is about whether he is open to real compromise working with congress. So far unfortunately showed no willingness in that direction since the election. And it required nearly 50 House Republicans demanding that the white house give israel strong public support instead of making public threats. But which would surely dishonor americas special relationship with israel, jeopardize israels ability to determine its own future, and, bolster irans capacity to destablize the entire middle east. I am not suggesting that you have to do nation building, but the fact is that the enemy chooses the form of war and not us. Lou we have even allow the creation of doctrine. But we have some generals talking about this and creating doctrine that insist upon patience and carrying out war which seems to be the inverse of what we learned and the anon, which is not to move the forces unless we can extricate them after achieving victory. And this is a difficult time for the military and it has much to work out. Yes, it does. The military, particularly Ground Forces have been captivated by the president and congress and this incredibly significant drawdown. It is beyond making a mistake and is quite reckless. To get to your point, wars in and among the people are complicated and they do take some time, it doesnt mean that you dont go after it with urgency and commitment and resolve and trying to bring it to completion as soon as possible. And we havent begun to train and arm the sunni tribes. We Just Announced that we are not even going to be in iraq and syria, we are not even going to begin to deal with the syrian army until sometime around march. So this patience is a lack of commitment and resolve, thats what it translates to. There is no sense of urgency. Lou there seems a great urgency and creating a deal almost any deal on any basis. Especially when we project this with iran. This looks like an extraordinarily dangerous time for the region and for israel and for ourselves and the rest of the world. They are permitting the iranians from any analyst perspective from having far too many centrifuges and its quite successfully, because we are sitting at 19,000 centrifuges and i understand that they had a few hundred. And we understand that they had none. So this is working to their favor and its working to their favor right now as we have a new deadline, which is now june of 2015 to solve this problem and create a Nuclear Weapon steel. Were talking about 2 monier and this is the absolute inverse of what all the experts were telling us just a couple months ago. 1. 8 , dont be shocked if we end up there under 2 . What are we seeing in terms of this . We are talking about the savings from gasoline. We are not seeing great excitement about what the retailers are bringing to the table when this Holiday Shopping season ends. I think that the purpose in the earnings reports as we will see the next couple of months. What i wanted to point out is that when we see a drop in oil prices, we would start to see that. At the same time even businesses are going to start benefiting from this. When you see a drop in oil prices, it becomes cheap to manufacture things. This only bodes well for the small business. You will start to see hiring go up as well. Lou i hope you are right. Thats a lagging indicator in this economy that as you suggest is showing signs of vitality. But heres the question. Why do we have all this talk about raising Interest Rates into this . It looks to me when we look at europe or china, we are talking about inflation. When we look at this country, we are looking at the prospect of exactly the same thing, disinflation in this country. When you broaden your horizon it makes no sense to be worried about a rate hike anytime soon. I want to see the World Economy so that we can find that the Financial Markets apart of this. Lou you have to jump on the yield spread. That sets 550 basis points rights. And that was june 2004, february february 1994 the yield prices were high. Maybe not anytime soon, but the duty of gdp is getting better. In 1998 the fed cut rates. Lou the idea that there is some sort of foregone conclusion, but they will raise the rates, which is part of a lot of strategies on wall street. Its absolutely idiotic because it would be a disastrous impact. You are going to find banks cutting back on the supply of credit to small businesses. You dont want that to happen. I think the critical thing here is the heavy handing of harry reid over the last several years. Lou one thing you have to give them is he is smart and clever and he knows what the heck he is doing the 1600 page bill with immigration and health im exasperated one do you think that republicans get the fact that they better focus on the middle class this time . The 1600 page bills are going to fly all the time. If they play that game, they are going to be dead in the water. The longer the bill, the less likely they are to help in the middle class. But the working class voters hep republicans and they didnt do as well with mitt romney at the top of the ticket. And so that is what happens when he wants more accessible.
