The gun omar mateen on a watch list. Twice he pleaded allegiance to isis. The system was still not working, he was still able to purchase guns and assaults rifl rifles. As fox news just learned, new evident of pro meditation. He not only visited the nightclub, but Downtown Disney prior to buying the weapons. Prime minister calling for ban on assault weapons and he challenged his political critics over his administrations tactics in fighting isis. Theres no magic to the phrase radical islam. Its a political talking point. And the reason im careful why describing this event has nothing to do with Political Correctness. There are new details that the gunmans wife knew of the gunmans plan and did nothing . The possibility exists that she will be charged. Here is what we know at this hour, his wife, they have a threeyearold child she has been questioned by authorities were now told and she is said to be cooperating and apparently has given them some indication about what you said of the casing of walt disney world. Its said that she knew of his fans for attack and told authorities she tried to talk him out of it, but as i said, given that, its a very good possibility she may be charged. As an a more complex picture of omar, her husband, is emerging. He apparently was a regular visitor, according to multiple sources, of this club, the pulse nightclub behind the street find me for a period of multiple years. In addition, he was the user of a gay dating app as well. As we said, complex picture of this man. Back to disney world, which, of course, as you say happiest place on earth. Right now it may be one of the safest on earth because of the steps being taken at disney world. And metal detect terse, sniffer dogs like the ones at airports. Officer on high alert at kiz any world and hightech surveillance, but still that will help to avoid the situations that are now revealed in terms of what went on behind the scenes. These interviews from victims, as well as the doctors that treated them. Pretty horrific stuff. Listen. This was the largest disaster that we probably could have imagined. Were used to seeing gunshot wound and a multitude of injuries each and every night. It was somewhat of an is your reason experience. The or would gill and wed literally walk from that operating room to another operating room and do it again and again. Liz, there is a snapchat video to you now, weve seen it earlier, it depicts the sound more so than the fights from inside. And the gunfire going on and on again. Thats what we heard from multiple sources today, automatic weapons, terrible inflicter of danger and death. Liz horrible, and jeff is going to interrupt us if any news breaks from the scene because its a fast and fluid story. The wife of mateen may very well have known all about this and did nothing wrong try to talk him out of it. The second we know that, because fox news is breaking stories on this right and left, we will bring it to you. President obama facing the nation in appointed speech an hour and a half ago on isis, but he focused on a call to put back the ban that expired. Use the weapons band and make it harder for terrorists use these to kill us. Liz while enemy fingers are on the drig a trigger, were welcoming former nypd chief bernard kerik. Should we ban an assault weapon, the weapon of choice for the terrorists. Honestly, in my personal opinion, i dont know if that stems the attacks. Here is why, you remove these types of weapons, let me clarify, assault weapons, people think these are automatic weapons, i heard your journalist talk about automatic, this is a semi automatic weapon, every time he pulls the trigger, its one round, its not multiple rounds. To buy any kind of assault, automatic weapon, you have to have a crazy registration, investigation, background stuff so nobody has these unless theyre really looked at. Liz i am stunned to hear you say this. Ill tell you why, because whatever the mechanisms in these assault rifles, he managed to kill 49 people. This are two issues with this type of guns. Would your Police Officers back then, what do you think . Mayan so a Police Officer in newark, new jersey. Liz does he want to face one of these things . No, he doesnt want to face one, he definitely wants to own one. See, thats the problem. You create this upon on these types of weapons and take them away from cops and former military, military guys that ha can have law abiding citizens. And what about the real rules. Liz like in israel. You can have exemptions, you can have certain registrations. Due process, you want to purchase a gun like this, in florida they had a waiting list for three days to buy a handgunment i find it kind of bizarre you can buy a gun like that without a waiting period. Liz yesterday sitting in the very seat youre in, the former prime minister, and they have much more malable laws that can change on a dime depending on the threat level. Here is what we perhaps need in the United States, here is ehud barak. To delineate the line between the balance between private rights of the citizens and the public safety, and a little bit different manner according to the situation. Secondly, you have to change t the modify the rules of carry guns so that they wont be able to be any weapon. Liz theres the issue that Many Americans are talking about, how did omar mateen on the travel list, having been interviewed by the fbi, how he loves isis and the goes back to my due process issue. He was on the radar and all of this rhetoric he was spewing apparently for years, hes able to go in and purchase this weapon without a waiting list, without a time limit. And nobody made a phone call to the bureau. Nobody made a phone call to the local how do we change that . That in itself, that can be changed. The problem the assault weapons ban and you know, changing the law, thats congress. Liz is it a states right issue . Yeah, listen, jersey has it. New jersey has an and new york has it. They have rough laws for people who go out and buy weapons. Weve heard about this guy coming in to purchase a weapon, and there was no waiting on that gun. My interview said he tried to keep people charged with Domestic Abuse from getting guns, et cetera. Its harder and harder. There are tough laws, but sometimes governor christie wants to loosen some of the laws. Forget about somebody to a questionable and purely american and not muslims. How about people looked at twice. Thats a policy issue for the administration. I know a lot of people is blaming the bureau. They have to live within that. Liz should we have a panel of judges, and have the fbi no, you wont do that. Its a constitutional issue. Youve got to have congress changing the law. Youre not changing it overwise. Assault rivelles were rifles were banned. Would you be depressed if they reinstated it as a former listen, you were in the army as well. He think there has to be an element of the u. S. Population. I think you have to be investigated. I think, you know, cops, former cops, retired cops, military, retired military, the reality is, i dont want to take these weapons away from real good guys and theres a lot more good guys in this country than bad guys because god forbid if we ever readed them etaking away from the good guys. Sounds like an exception to the rule. We appreciate you coming here. Thank you, weve got minutes before the closing bell rippings. The little blue bird singing a different tune. Exactly 20 minutes ago, we were hitting the first session high of the low. We were down about 132 and then 137 for the Dow Jones Industrials and look at this, its the final hour. Were starting to see the buyers creep in. Down only 72 points at the moment. 17,660 and i just want to make a comment about twitter, twitters annual high was hit last july. Its alltime high was more than 70 and that was, of course, shortly after the ipo. Twitter has been a dog of an investment unless you bought, well, and sold unless you bought it, i guess, midway between 2014 and 2015 and then told as it moved higher. Twitter is a mess. Goldman sachs is making a call saying maybe in 2017 you should buy it, thats part of whats going on with twitter today. Might this company not have already been acquired by somebody else by 2017 . Were watching it. Time to place your bets, talking u. K. Not twitter. U. K. Book makers are placing a 62 chance that the u. K. Will remain in the eu. While thats more than 50 . Its down from 78 just last week. So its falling, falling, falling, even britains largest newspaper, the sun, seems to think an exit is in the cards. As we have mentioned one of the most widely followed, widely watched fixed income experts on the streets saying not going to happen. Andy brenner, head of fixed income say that they will stay in the european union. In a fox business exclusive youre telling me its not going to happen that theyll stay . Liz, ive looked at a lot of the polls that come out every day, theyre the same polls that predicted that David Cameron would lose last year. The way it ends up how the brits are voting is at the book makers. The book makers are your best chance of trying to see how things are going to go. As of right now, i believe it wont pass and u. K. Will stay in. It doesnt mean that you cant prepare. What its been looking like, its been looking ugly. If you look at the european markets, forget our markets, they down were from 1 is to 2 overnight and you saw the ftse, france was 2 1 4 and worse, but they had a terror disaster there with the police chief and his wife. Theres a lot of fear in the markets. When you look at what the u. K. Might do, why do you feel the vote will go the other way and that the u. K. Will stay, i side from what the bookies are saying . Well, i mean, i think a lot of it has to do originally its financial reasons and now its more of an immigration issue and its hard for me to determine. Ive talked to people in the u. K. This morning and they still feel that its going to go, that theyre going to stay in, but i think you have to look at where the risk is, if they dont. If you look at how the italian stock market has done this year, its down 24 year to date. Its clearly in a bear market. The risk of that is not the u. K. , its the euro here is what you see, youre correct to point this out. Absolutely, got demolished and i think it would set a road map of how other European Countries could exit the euro in the next three to five years. Liz i want to show the headline of the sun, widely read newspaper, most widely read, saying the eu is greedy, wasteful and incompetent. If we stay the u. K. Will be involved in a relentlessly dominated german state. They called David Cameron witless and to control massive immigration. The eu will never reform. Dont the english depend a lot on exports and imports and the trade blocks and can they maintain it without being a part of the eu . Theyll maintain it, all of a sudden they will be an outside country like the United States is no longer be part of it. They will have to get approvals. It will be years before they figure out exactly who has to approve what, so on and so forth. I think there will be a tremendous slowdown from that and i think there will be a lot of indecisions. I think it benefits to the brits to stay in even with what you mentioned. Liz fear not, and other people to stay in the european unit. We do have the dow down 70 odd points. It had been over 130. Well be back. Stay tuned. Apple investors cannot decide whether they like the product enhancements the Company Announced at its splashy annual developers conference. Right now its up a fraction. It had been down a third of a point. Were watching this very closely, but theres one development in particular that is getting raves because it could very well save lives. Lori rothman on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange with the fox Business Tech minute. Lori. Yes, thank you. And Mark Zuckerburg holding his first facebook q a and addresses user submitted questions voted on by likes. Back to you. Liz thank you very much, lori rothman, two california girls. Were 30, make that 29 minutes away to the closing bell. We have at Dow Jones Industrials down, certainly not totally out. It feels like were closer and closer to the flat line and some bulls and buyers are trying to come in and do a little bargain hunting. Has the orlando massacre, i want to know your thoughts on this, tweet me, liz claman, has the massacre change the dynamic of the upcoming republican ab democratic conventions . Its on the rhetoric on the campaign trail. Clinton calling for stricter gun laws and trump calling for a bolstered military and a ban on muslims. A temporary ban, but ban nonetheless. Ripping apart his Foreign Policy speech yesterday. Hes said a lot of false things, including about me. He said ill abolish the second amendment, well, thats wrong. He said ill let a flood of refugees into our country without any screening. Thats also wrong. These arent demonstrably lies, but he feels compelled to tell them because he has to distract us from the fact he has nothing substantive to say for himself. Liz lets bring in columnist at news day and kelly, a reporter at washington times. Elliss, as you know, suddenly the entire country is riveted away from, lets say the economy temporarily, their pocket book issues temporarily and now theyre looking at the orlando massacre, will this change the entire dynamic of the Upcoming Convention . Im not sure it would have been a learned gentle affair to start with. Youre right it turning up the volume and intensifies the rhett rec and pushes the candidates into clear and firm corners. We know what the battle lines are. Liz kelly, what do you think . Donald trump is pushing for his side and Hillary Clinton for her side and shes saying im not against gun ownership and the second amendment, i am against, you know you know, she just articulated it, but shes trying to rip apart his speech and focuses on him versus actual issues. Which strategy is going to work here . Well, she needs to deflect her because her record with isis and Obama Administrations record with isis and radical islamic terrorism is terrible. The secretary of state under president obama, you saw the number of radical jihadi terrorists double in number to 10,000. Then, you had the number of terrorist. 0s grow by 56 . This was before with the rise of isis. Now, you have isis that has 25,000 soldiers strong. It has been an absolute disaster. The Obama Administration has been a disaster on this and Hillary Clinton wants to continue those policies so of course, shes going to deflect into her comfortable corner of gun control. Thats obvious. Yeah, here is the problem, the race is ultimately coming, i think, to the fitness of donald trump. You have top members of his party disavowing every central plank of his proposal from the muslim ban on forward and hillary essentially casting herself as the experienced grownup. Kelly, what about that . House speaker ryan today putting another line in the sand between the Republican Party and donald trump, saying he does not agree with trumps muslim immigrant ban. Well, at least donald trump is willing to diagnose the disease that is happening with radical islamic terrorism. Hillary clinton would rather play politics and criticize republicans and those in Middle America for antimuslim rhetoric. Thats not at all what it is. You need to know where the cancer is, you need to diagnose the cancer in order to eradicate it every single grownup is saying every one of those proposals would make things worse. And grownups, thats condescending, exactly, youre pandering. Liz look at this guy, he was muslim, he said he was supportive of isis, his father supported the taliban, come on. Nobodys defending him. It seems to me his motives may be, the gay bashing, is it muslim, nobody is defending him. Certainly Hillary Clinton and barack obama are not. Well, barack obama clearly is. Thats kelly, kelly, stop that. Hes not he also is reluctant to call what it was, this is a terrorism attack and the american in the program a gun control issue. Liz driven by facts, the first minute this happened, president obama called it terrorism. So lets stick with that fact. However, americans do feel, elliss, that there is a benning over backwards, a gymnastics effort to make sure that were not offending a certain group. Listen, and we talked about this and we really discuss this at fox business in our editorial meeting we want to be fair, we want to be balanced. When new Jersey Police and nypd were going after the mafia, they were looking at the italian community, and people didnt complain about that. But not locking up law abiding italians. People are fearful ap reach for answers and sometimes counterproductive answers, dont go over the line and dont pull the trump stuff where youre accusing barack obama of being in league with the terrorists. There have been two terrorist attacks within the last six months, two isis attacks on the homeland in the last six months. I think a reason to feel anxiety. And barack obama is i never said you candidate did. Im not taking credit for what comes out of Donald Trumps mouth. Im not supporting all of what is coming out of his mouth. What im saying you need to be identify. You cant be so politically correct youre turning your back and not identifying where the terrorism exists. Liz elliss starts and kelly finishes. Youre welcome on the show both of you, kelly and elliss. Closing bell, were 18 minutes away and have the dow down about 67 points and weve more than cut in half our losses since the top of the show. Take control of your retirement today there is a new sheriff in town at valeant and he is breaking news taking on baby buffett. Joseph papa is sending shock waves this hour after a first shareholder meeting, he indicated to reporters hes willing to take on his largest shareholder of the Company Billionaire activist bill ackman. With breaking details. Several months ago we were telling that valeant was thinking of selling core assets, the bausch lomb unit, one of the prized possessions and key core asset. After we did that story, we should point out, we did the story in april and cnbc tried to contradict it and saying it was not on the table, we stood our ground and here is where logic is setting in on cnbn and scott wapner and bill ackman and tried to shoot down our report. Valeant ceo reports that core assets like bausch lomb are on the table and said that in response to reporters questions at the annual meeting in quebec. We should point out that this contradicts directly the statements of bill ackman, the largest shareholder, i believe hes on the board as well. Liz yes, he is. Who said core assets were not on the table as we reported first, they are and they are again according to mr. Papa. We should also point out that we we put calls both into papas office, calls to ackmans office, we tried to figure out, you know, explain whats going on here. Am i like, you know, dilutional on this . [laughter] are they not giving us two different visions of this very troubled company . They chose not to comment. So i think what we have here is a real problem. We should put up a stock chart. The stock was off earlier today. I think its come back, now, its come back somewhat. Liz we have an intraday. We have an intraday. Come back somewhat. A lot of that is on my reporting on this because at first, it was down and flat line because a lot of people really didnt understand whats going on now. Now, its starting to come out that clearly to pay down the 30 billion debt and one of the big problems valeant has aside from the troubled business model, unwind, purchasing companies and selling higher priced pharmaceutical products through those specialty retailers like philador. The other problem it had in pursuing that, it bought a lot of companies and acquired a lot of debt, 30 billion. The way to deal with that, with papa saying today, is to sell assets and what hes conceding now is that core assets are on the table. The market this guy doesnt care what anybody thinks. His job, hes taking it on, is to fix and save this company. If that means selling off a bunch of parts to get some cash to pay down the debt, so you get to say, i told you so, charlie. And here is the key thing and it was the point i made last time when cnbc and ackman were trying to deny our report. The point i made last time, when you have a heavily indebted company, junk, i believe its junk bonds, i have to check that, but 30 billion in debt and highly indebted company, power then shifts from the stock holders to the bondholders. The bondholders could, you know, really hurt the company and declare it they could have a run on this company. They can basically never roll over and they could refuse to buy its debt and roll over on the commercial paper. When the power shifts to the bondholders, thats when key assets, core assets are on the table. Why is that . Because they want to be paid. Bondholders want to be paid and thats the problem they had with denying our story. Bill ackman, i would say right now is less important than the bondholders to valeant. Hes much less of a player than you think. Liz listen, he tried to get Warren Buffett and charlie monger to invest and they said no way and that was a long time i want to say something, listen, i know the stock is up on the potential sale of this as weve unpacking it. It took fox business to alert the business community, longterm core assets youve got to ask yourself about this company longterm. Liz thank you, charlie and your whole report im doing a fox business. Com report soon and be up before the end of the day. Liz right, thank you, great job. Tune in tomorrow, by the way, for the best fed coverage in the business, charlie is here once again. Yeah, im making you work this one. And it starts at 2 p. M. Eastern its the fed rates decision followed at 2 30 p. M. When janet yellen, the fed chair, has the news conference. We are going to be all over the market reaction. Countdown to the closing bell has the most important financial perspective. 3 30 p. M. Eastern, once janet yellen stops talking our allstar panel starts talking. Former reagan budget director david stockman, former dallas fed vp and jon hilsenrath, and anthony scaramucci, join us for the fed Rate Decision and reaction to Janet Yellens news conference. The closing bell, were now seven and a half minutes away, if not tomorrow, then when . The Federal Reserve window of opportunity to raise rates in 2016 is narrowing. The man who closely tracks the u. S. Economy for citigroup with me exclusively has a prediction, you need to hear it. The countdown coming back with bill lee from citigroup when we come back. When they actually did start saving. This gap between when we should start saving and when we actually do is one of the reasons why too many of us arent prepared for retirement. Just start as early as you can. Its going to pay off in the future. If we all start saving a little more today, well all be better prepared tomorrow. Prudential. Bring your challenges. . Liz were about 4 1 2 minutes away from the closing bell. I want you to look on the screen here, looking at the volatility. The fear index has reversed. It has punched to the upside. A second ago there, we had seen it fall and rise, rise, rise all day, that means more fear in the markets and suddenly as the markets started to go closer to the flat line here, we have buyers come in, in the past 45 minutes. What happened . We started to see fear come out of the market. Dissipate just a bit. The volatility index down 2 . Its been up 25 over the past two days. Watching this closely. Five more fed meetings to go with the possibility of a june rate hike, and tomorrow well know its pretty much off the table. Is the fed window to raise rates closing . Lets bring in bill lee head of north american economics at citigroup. Not tomorrow, whats the date on the calendar for the next rate hike . September is the next one theyve got. June is essentially off the table. Shes got two jobs, bring the fed back tock a credible force. Every meeting is live. All my colleagues priced away any move this year and bring a consense touts committee. The hawks want to move yesterday and doors of saying not yet. Liz can you guide our viewers, colleagues are saying not at all this year, where should people know. I know youre an economist, but are there areas that can endure the volatility from this and what we know is going to be a decision out of the britain referendum whether to leave the european union. Is there an area or areas that you feel or team feel are better to endure that volatility . I think the bulk of the volatility and the dow would pressure on the u. S. Economy are coming from abroad and coming from the energy sector. We think the most protected sectors are going to be nontrading goods and services sector. Because thats the group of industries and sectors thats going to be experiencing the most benefit from the strong consumption and housing in the economy right now. Liz could you clarify what a nontraded or sector is . Ive been covering Business News for 15 years, i dont know what it is. [laughter] sectors that produce for the u. S. Domestic market. Liz ah. No exposure. Exactly. Supply chains are domestic and output goes to the u. S. Marketplace. Liz you people at citihave different semantics. Negative rates on german bonds for the first time in history. That happened today. Japans ten year is negative. So is the swiss ten year. The u. K. Gilt bond pretty much flat lining. Would you say the treasuries with pathetic returns of 1. 6 in the u. S. Are here to put money. Looks great globally, one of the things you have to keep in mind is why has the fed put off moving so long . Its because of the uncertainty. One of the things is uncertainty is measurable and i can measure the amount of drag thats been imposed by the amount of certainty because of the Financial Market turmoil and half a percentage point of drag. We have half a percentage point of drag and it could get bigger if the markets are more volatile. Liz before we go, the one data point that is most important to you right now . The next employment report. Weve got it find evidence the last one is a fluke and the fed is ready to move. Thats what janet yellen has to convince everyone of and the piece of data shes missing. Liz bill lee saying the Federal Reserve has got to get credibility back. Not that theyre so incredible, they keep stringing us along on rates. Indeed. Liz bill lee of citigroup saying watch out, september is the meet wearing we might have a rate hike. Markets down four days in a row. Connell mcshane and Melissa Francis pick up here for after the bell. Liz, stocks ending the day in the red. The fourth day in a row weve seen it. Connell mcshane in today for david asman. Melissa im Melissa Francis, this is after the bell. Weve got you covered on the big movers and the market. Heres what else we have for you this hour. New details surfacing on the orlando shooter, motives and involvement of his wife. Well take you live to orlando for the latest. While president obama is fired up this afternoon responding to attacks from republicans who say Political Correctness is putting our nation at risk.
