They dont like donald trump, but its still to play out whether they will all back up donald trump as the Party Candidate if thats how it goes down. Will senator reids theory, will his strategy work . Absolutely it will. And this is a common strategy, weve seen this play out many years. If you remember in 2010 and 2014 despite the fact that president obama wasnt on the ballot, republicans tied congressional leadership and congressional members to the president. Top of the ticket drives. Whoever is on the top of the ticket is the standard bearer of the party. Congratulations gop, you won yourself a donald trump. Donald trump is now the standard bearer. Yeah, you have to come out as a republican, and vehemently oppose your leader that voters are selecting and then try to stand up and run for reelection on by yourself, i dont think they can do it. Liz that puts leaders in a very difficult position, deroy. Guess what . The will of the people. The will of the people, a large enough group when it comes to republicans, like donald trump. He doesnt have the delegates nor does anybody else but certainly is in the lead. You dont want your Party Leaders to appear to be finagling and moving things, right . The more you move towards trump, you upset the establishment. The more you move away you upset people in the party. I heard Something Interesting by frank lentz. Liz the pollster . Yes. What they may do is vote for trump for president and vote democrat for u. S. Senate and u. S. House, you may find trump perhaps winning the white house while losing congress, potentially. Liz just as donald trump, joe, might bring in democrats, Hillary Clinton might be bringing in centrist republicans. Not many of those. Definitely sounds like it, right . Especially the elected officials who keep saying i cant support donald trump, i cant do this or that. You sit the race out . Were looking for real leadership in this town. Real leadership means you have to stand against your party, be your own man or woman and make your voice heard. Republicans need to start stepping up. I hate saying this as a democrat, right . But this is what theyve got to do. Unfortunately what that does is causes cracks in the foundations of Everything Else they say. Do you remember the pledge, the very first debate, the pledge that everyone was forced to raise their hand. Liz that i will support the republican candidate. Exactly. I suppose you could have this contested convention situation, but again, if it just is a matter of they dont have the number of votes, trump loses on the first ballot. They have fantastic speeches, open vote and trump loses. If it looks like a back room deal, he and supporters are going to freak out. At best they stay home. At worst they take it to the streets and could be a completely volatile situation. Liz we could put up the delegate numbers and who has what on both sides here. Joe, we have trump with 673. Cruz is next closest with 411. John kasich, 143. To the democrats, hillary is well ahead of Bernie Sanders, and now you actually even have a top obama fundraiser and democratic strategist calling for Bernie Sanders to drop out so they can coalesce behind hillary. That almost puts us on the when you talk about us as voters, that puts voters overall on both sides with the same conundrum. Yeah, except on our side, we dont have the foundational issues that the gop have right now. I was a bernie supporter, i voted in virginia for bernie. Like both candidates equally. I know hillary is listening to them, if you listened to her messages are she is using similar language. Its because we are arguing on our side over nuances, small differences. Reduced college versus free college, setting longterm goals that our party can believe in versus shortterm realistic goals to get there. It works well together. The fed slammed foot on the brakes and said we will have two increases versus four . That was the motivation to get the money off the sidelines, the bigger function of the war on currencies that are fought that we thought were settled down. The United States is the first one to back out of the war and let rates rise. Dollar rose too fast and the rest of the participants didnt play along. We are forced to tap the brakes to slow down the momentum of the dollar. Thats had a major impact on the commodities. So youve had the momentum of that carrying the rest of the market higher with relatively new leadership in the materials group. Where do we go from here at 40 . We have to absorb this and digest it, but like i said over the last few weeks, this market could only really go higher. The Senate Republicans refused to meet with the judge and denied confirmation hearings and although some talked to him on the phone. On fox last night Greta Van Susteren said these are games and the nominee should at least have a hearing. Thanks for being here. I was watching you last night, a couple weeks after just sis scalia passed you gave very impassioned speech at the end of our show, after he died, petty argument, pus use the p word, is not even worthy of the 7th grade schoolyard fights. In fact that diminishes and insults 7th graders. I thought, lets bring this on, because this is fight republicans very passionately about. Do you understand their side . They are saying they do it democrats did it to them. Next time around the democrat do it the public did it again. Constitution says one thing. One thing says President Shall appoint. President has done that. It does not say the senate shall hold a hearing but you would think that at least because they have got an obligation to deto vote on nomination, not constitutional, but you would expect they would at some point they would at least have decency to stop this cycle because the other guy did it first. Im sure youre quite familiar he is part of the d. C. Court. He was part after huge prosecution team. There were a lot of good prosecutors involved in that case. I dont know if he is good candidate or not. But were never going to know, liz, because we are not going to have a hearing because the Senate Republicans wont hold the hearing. It may turn out after hearing the hearing everyone thinks he great. May turn out he is rotten. I dont know. Were never getting to the point. Well not get a chance to look at him, because the senate will not hold that hearing. For the life of me i dont understand why they want to send this message to Republican Voters out there theyre willing to play the game. Wouldnt you think for once, one side of the political spectrum would sayings look, well do right thing for american people. Well have a hearing. Well hold this. Well air everything about him and well vote. If they vote know, they dont think he is any good, than fine. Nobody wants to stop cycle of playing petty and in the city and hurts american people. Liz comes down to Election Year politics, i wonder if they regret, careful what you wishing for. How do you think the eventual republican nominee handle this as a Campaign Issue . Most or quite a bit of issues that come before the Supreme Court these days are social issues and the country seems to be going slightly more centrist to slightly right . Senator ted cruz willfully embrace it. He is one of the leaders to say he should not be entitled for hearing. They should wait for the election. I know how senator ted cruz will handle it. I cant possibly come up with how donald trump will handle it should he be the nominee. Here is what could happen to the republicans. They may find come november that the elected president is not the republican nominee but secretary of state Hillary Clinton who may want someone who is different candidate and she will withdraw the name of consideration of judge garland and put someone in there who is far more unsuitable to the republicans and republicans may not own the senate. There are 34 seats up in the United States senate next november. 24 of those republican. Very good chance that the u. S. Senate come next january. So they may may get somebody they really dont like because theyre playing this game right now. Liz liz exactly. That is the whole be careful what you vision for. One of the issues he deferred to the Bush Administration on rights of the gitmo, of the Guantanamo Bay detainees that would have been more palatable to republicans yet theyre not taking this guy. Does say that president nominates, shall nominate and have advise and consent of the senate but what im trying to hold us to is some sort of process and cut that cycle in the political games. Even reading all his opinions i have no way to predict what will come before him should he become a justice and should he become a justice i dont know what the cases.
