Countdown to the countdown. Ovhen r cheryl take a look at the dow taking off. New record highs again today. We are on track for the eighth Straight Record close. The s p 500 right now. As it moves closer to its record closing high, we are about five points away. That new record level. We are watching for 1565. Will it happen in the last hour of trading today . And driving this sector, the energy names. A little more on that later in the show. The financials, not only the secondbest performer for the week, but also the top performer for the month. There is your spider right there. And it looks like no stress for the stress tests. The big banks are moving higher. The second round. We will have more on that coming up in just a moment. First, lets get right to our floor show. The new york stock exchange, the cme group, and, of course, the nymex. Jonathan, our good friend, standing by. Im curious, as we watch this is so close to this new level, the financials. What do you see . Absolutely. This market trend higher and higher. Like the slow pace of the we are seeing. Spread across the board in different sectors. What does this tell me . It tells me, like we have been saying, that this rally is real. We announcing a lot of volatility in the markets. Taking baby steps higher and higher. Extremely healthy for the markets. Over and over we keep seeing that. Cheryl and the economy is looking good. Youre absolutely right. Lets go to the cme. All right. Lets go back. I mean really, you always tell me. Its not about the dow. Its about the s p. That is the true handle on the market. We are so close. Thats true bull that we need for the rest of the year. At dawn of the rest of the year, but certainly i am considering that old adage. We keep climbing so much. We do a point here, a point there. The dow does five to 50 points. The markets are locked into this bull trend. They dont seem to want to give it up. The Economic Data keeps coming up with better and better. Cheryl you know, have to say. Most market watchers will say that there is going to be a bit of a pullback. The question is when. That many correction, big correction coming in the next month, four months, five months. That is why it may go away. Right now anybody that has waited for the pullback, where are they . Theyre still in cash. They have not had a pullback since dec. 31st, and that has been the problem. There is not that big break for them to come in on. Cheryl lets go over to the nymex. I was just talking about it at the top of the show, looking at the big energy names. Tight, of course, to the oil contract. Staying above that 90 level. You think we will continue to check our . Said think we will continue to go toward 95. The positive was that there was a big drop. That pipeline is probably helping. The bottleneck through. Creep higher. Pushed through. Is troubling where we see the next big resistance. Cheryl the last word. The new york stock exchange. We are coming up just about an hour or so from now we will get another read on the stress test. Watching the financials in his final hour . Absolutely. This last hour is always very important, especially with news coming after the market. Economic data tomorrow morning. What i think we will see, the market will stay up at this level and get a selloff at the end of the day, especially in the financials, but this rally will continue. Cheryl thank you. Great for show. Another strong day for the markets. The big banks are waiting on this afternoon to reserve stress test results coming out right after the bell. And legendary bank analyst told me earlier today to tune out the noise and invest. This Company Making more money because its selling more wages and higher prices. The answer is yes. Cheryl my next guest is heavily invested in the industry. Founder and president joining me now in a fox business exclusive. You know, when i talked earlier he was incredibly bullish on the banks. As we get to this next round of stress testing, the final round for the year, do you think we will get a good news on the dividend paying front . That is what investors want to hear. I do indeed think we will. The request from the banks is going to be modest. But i look for the Federal Reserve and the government to grant them most of their requests for dividend increases and stock buybacks. Cheryl where do you think there will be hesitation from the government . On the Share Buyback or on the dividend side . I think it would probably be on the stock buyback time. Cheryl okay. Let me ask you this. We put so much pressure on the banks. I say this is the government, americans, so much pressure on the banks. Im going to ask this deal. Do you think we are at a point now with these banks where does not make sense any more for these large institutions, small institutions have to go to the Federal Reserve and as for permission to basically do business with those that are investing in their companies . A we beyond this . I think we are. Im not so short that the government would agree with that i believe the industry is pass this. We could do away with a little bit of asking the government for permission. Cheryl to you think thats why these two banks, we are expecting them to be rather conservative on the request . I do. I think the positive from the announcement this afternoon will be it will establish a road map for these companies to distribute massive amounts of capital to shareholders in the next 1224 months. Today is just the very beginning i expect to be very modest and what the requested date. Cheryl a want to ask you about one in a particular. The four banks that did not pass the stress test last year, suntrust, city, and met life. You still like a suntrust. You are still backing this name. What has improved . The Main Attraction is the real estate recovery in the southeastern part of the united states. The fact that it is recovering much faster than what people expect and they should be a prime beneficiary of that. Last year i dont know internally why suntrust ask for what they did. Perhaps they asked for a little too much. If their is a general lesson that has been learned it is maybe we should be a little more modest and what we ask for. Twelve months from now we will begin said pickup call request, particularly after we show another 12 months worth of robust earnings and capital generation. Cheryl if these banks performs like he believes they will, 20,141st quarter will be one heck of a return for those that own the shares. Thank you. Youre welcome. Have a good day. Cheryl you, too. Closing bell ringing 51 minutes from now. Markets are having a good day. Another disaster for Carnival Cruise on their aptly named dream cruise liner. Can we just say, that is like to do not miss it. All right. Lets get to this guy. Lloyd blank fein says he plans to extend his controversial reign as the chief executive of gollman. Its nice to know that he developed a new policy to one of the most pressing matters that affect his employees. Shareholders and investors around the world need to know about what . Reporter a little irony. A principal stand. We will get into it to some extent. I mean, kind of shockingly that the ceo of goldman came out in an interview where he says both the firm and himself are advocating samesex marriage and writes for samesex marriage couples. Hes going to be on the forefront of this thing. Why is that interesting . Rarely do you see someone in Corporate America although you are increasingly seeing it these days, go out and sort of like adopt a social agenda like this. I mean, obviously if you are in favor of gay marriage, i am personally, but if you run a company you get some supporters on one end and a lot of angry supporters of the other. But also, why does the average shareholder care . No, in this interview he tried to distill it down. He said their business benefits to samesex marriage. You can attract much more talented people. Their environment that works with in terms of sharing benefits and things of that nature. You know, not totally absurd. Here is where this whole argument gets crazy. The story behind the story, which were going to tell you here. Yes, i believe, you know, he is speaking his mind. The reason why hes doing it right now in particular is that all these wall street firms to all these corporations right now are coming under withering attack from corporate activists to support much more, much more of the social agenda. Who are these corporate actors to back in the old days, their shareholders. The third point. Carl icahn advocates for a higher share price on management to do things prior share price. These new actors, sci you, the big union, many other unions, acorn, for exaaple, they are out there pressing companies. Now, these unions own shares to their pension funds. Not huge shareholders, but they own shares. Through that ownership of stock in these companies theyre going out and they are pressing a social agenda as opposed to the business agenda which affects the share price. All these firms are really worrying about it. There being pressed essentially to stop lobbying. They want to take away the First Amendment rights of corporations to lobby about a probusiness agenda like lower taxes and things of that nature. Cheryl you been covering him for years. Are you surprised that a white blank fine of all people would respond to this type of pressure . Reporter not really. If you know the times. This is stored of becoming a more and more. You will see much more of this because these political these unions, mainly unions with pension funds, the aclu owns one share of goldmans Stock Anything they can go out there and turn the screws at the annual meeting. They will do more of this in the future. What they will do is try to sort of knew there. Okay. Everything. Neuter the ability to lobby for a probusiness agenda which generally includes more right of center causes as opposed to leftofcenter causes like lower taxes. I can tell you, is something fascinating. You dont really see these companies advocating right of center social. Cheryl it is surprising. Thank you very much. All right. You will be around tomorrow for the business of adult entertainment. Great. Reporter i might have a story. Im not kidding. Cheryl we will take a quick break. When we come back we will be talking about believe it or not film. You can go online and get the same experience with up the crowd which is the attitude. Joining me now for a fox business exclusive. And you really have of fascinating to my think of a window into entertainment and kind of where its going, especially with these new filmmakers who want more for themselves. They dont want to go to Paramount Pictures and lose all that cash. You really are building a business. When did this allstar . Well, we think thats right. Since its earlier stage, it was actually founded back in 2004 and has always been focused on in powering highquality independent creaked careers with great tools to share their video. Cheryl that is when you watch the on demand service. On demand. So i can make a film, five minutes, ten minutes, an hour, whenever. Come to you. What percentage do i get to keep . If you use the platform actually after initial transaction fees you get to keep 90 percent of the revenue as a creator. Cheryl we are seeing again on our screen, 12 percent growth. This is where its going. No one wants to sit and wait for that show the,. 110 the 1910 revenue split. Talk to me about that. If you look at itunes with their users, its more of a 6040 split well cheryl 7030. Youre giving 90. That is a risk for you. It is in a sense, but you know, we believe in being as creator friendly as possible which is why we have been as aggressive as we can be in delivering that revenue back. So for us it also comes with a larger complement of tools. So we are able to offer that revenues but for this particular feature in more aggressive ways than our competitors. Cheryl do you think that the company could go after the likes of amazon and netflix and even who lou, but do you think you can go after those services . Well, i think its less about going after those services than it is going after this particular set of creators. We have been rewarded by focusing on Higher Quality independent creators. Certainly the tools that allows for the entire spread of content from your personal media to these independent creators. Yes, up into the sort of typical hollywood media that were more familiar with. For us its less about going after any one of those particular platforms. About unlocking of the potential of what makes our platform unique, which is at 2way system focused on independent creative content. Cheryl what about the other side of that. A Film Festival. I mentioned sundance. Into that several times. Tribeca year in new york. All these young filmmakers, and trying get there break. Are you working on partnerships . With that makes sense . It does. We partner with all of the major Film Festivals, both on site we are a sponsor a supporter of the Film Festival and then we also, the filmmakers actually used the submission mechanism for funds to be screened. We are actually talking about potentially making that more official some of the festivals. One of the ways we can really help is the festivals are wonderful for celebrations of the week or year, but had we use it to make that a yearend celebration of recounted . Cheryl a very interesting acquisition. It is called echograph. So that is mobile. It is. Cheryl is that where we are going . Of course. Like any of the portion of the internet mobile is a big future trend in where video said it. So it inhabits a very interesting space around mobile video creation. Arguably ten plus years into having a highquality cameras on your phone. We are not quite as far into what it will mean that everybody or hundreds of millions of people at hd video cameras in their pockets. The applications that are successful in helping them capture great video we think will be really meaningful. Cheryl you have 93 million users. Youtube has much less than that. Much more. Cheryl i mean much more. Sorry. When you looked at over the next frontier, your thinking about this samsungs event that will be across the street from our studio. Radio city. These new samsung these galaxies, 5inch screen. Beautiful devices. Cheryl what about the partnerships with the filmmakers . Well, a very interesting place with the fun manufacturers as well because while youtube is a massive platform and we dont in the business with youtube because we think were doing something different, we find that many of the Device Manufacturers are often looking for an alternative for at least multiple partners. So were there to step in and fered a very highquality video sharing capability. So we are installed across all of the major operating systems on the mobile side and available with have some a lot of different devices. Cheryl i wonder what this means to movie studios. They have to be nervous. We see what itunes did to the music companies. Now we are seeing potentially the same thing with film, entertainment. Even have netflix and these other companies that try to make their own original content. Averell was to get in the game tough. So what do you think happens overall with this base Going Forward . Do you think that the movie companies, we should be nervous about our investments in universal and time warner . Should i be selling my stock . I dont know about that. One thing that is certainly interesting is when you look at the evolution of the Consumer Experience i think we can all relate to when we look at screens today, whether its a television, youre mobile device , tablet, one of the most interesting things is there is this interesting cohabitation of your personal media all the way up through major feature film and television content, and we are all increasingly comfortable cheryl the creator of growth. A huge success. This is her route to fame. He know that story well. Certainly the power of the tools for creators taxes global audiences is really just incredible. We are still seeing an entire generation, until native creators who are now using these tools to launch their careers. Cheryl kids these days. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Cheryl closing bell will ring in 28 minutes. We are breaking down the fundamentals with american centuries. We will head down to the floor of the new york stock exchange. Also, Odilo Scherer right after the break. Cheryl the volatility index hitting a new low today. Lets go to sandra smith with her trade. Reporter everybody is basically scared of the fact that nobody is scared of the stock market. Just keeps going up. We use that scary thing. It can be measured by the fear index. The cbo market volatility index, we often call it the fear gates. Eleven and and a half points right now. Its down 3 on the session. If you look got past over the past year is down 22 and sitting in its lowest level of the past year. Make that an even bigger chart. Go to the five your chart. Youre looking at the volatility index at its lowest level going all the way back prior to the recession and prior to the 2009 los. The stock market has a lot of folks asking if we are hitting this low levels, everyone still complains. Maybe this is the call before the storm and indicated that the stock market will eventually selloff. Not so much the case. Barclays put out a note on this commander looking at the dow verses the market volatility index, basically showing of the 210 move in opposite directions and often do. Michael gavin over at barclays is saying that, while low volatility has been associated with the call before the storm and it has been a contrarian indicator to the stock market in the past, that game is all changed. Central Bank Intervention has become the norm. Evans essentially hes pointing out that it is not the same environment that we are looking at. This could be the new low norm for the volatility index based on the fact that the central bank, the Federal Reserve steps in and props up our markets by buying back bonds and printing money. So are really interesting take on that considering a lot of us have been asking that question. Well, the turnaround in the stock market. This is not the case in. Cheryl you know, its funny. You and i were talking earlier about the dollar and about the strengthening dollar, especially of the last two days verses other currencies, the euro, sterling. That tells me that the fed is going to have to rethink some things because once inflation starts to kick in, i dont care what they say. Next year. I think this year we may see inflation. That would change the game for equity players. Reporter the whole game has changed. You used to get a weak dollar and then see the Dow Jones Industrial average go hire. They thrived when the greenback is weak. Thats not the case. It is up 4 . The dow has been going up. It is one of those environments where you have to throw all of the old indicators. Cheryl we have you. All right. Thank you. A pullback in some point. A mixed call for smart phone makers today head of samsungs launch of its newest android iphone. A i just said iphone. Iphone. Tonight nicole on the floor of the new york stock exchange. What im carrying right now. Reporter i know what you mean. Almost becomes program in your brain. We are waiting for the samsung launch. That is the big deal, at least the big deal of the day. One of the features that we are getting, glenn said may be included as is i scrolling. If you have the phone, im not sure if i can scrawl your phone. You may be able to scrub your own phone. When you take a blackberry, apple, samsung kind you dont talk individual stocks. What do you think big picture . Well, samsung, the reason we can look at it are i can talk about is the impact that apple has and all the major indices, particularly the composite index. When it comes to talking about technologies, this is my phone. Im a little bit behind the curve when it comes to technology. Cheryl wait. Stoppage. By the way. You can go this way. The go this way. Multilevel. Exactly. Heavily weighted in the industry. Samsung got involved in the major market averages. Blackberry, which can leave out. A huge of quarter. A Million Units. That is there largest order ever for a blackberry. The bullish argument for blackberry is that they manage to reinvent themselves. The belief had been that the only value was their patent portfolio. With samsung, basically its david against goliath. So the belief that youre going to sell 10 Million Units of this. Hopefully they have the production to meet that because last time they fell short by 2 Million Units this obviously had an effect on their earnings stability. Reporter yet to keep up the supply and demand. That is the whole concept. Cheryl all right. Thank you very much. Get and iphone. All right. Thank you. Appreciated. The closing bell will be running in 19 minutes. The dow and the s p cannot seem to stop. Am i the only one that is a little curious about all of this . Contract for its eighth Straight Record close. We are not there yet, but we are looking for t. If we have a day tomorrow just like today, should be in good shape to have to new records tell you about what the dow and the s p. Lets take a look at the sector right now getting a lot of attention. The Energy Sector leading the charge forward. Best performer sector wise. Take a look as some of the stocks. Of course oil going higher today. Higher energy, oil prices, helping these names out, even though cabot oil and gas, noble, chesapeake, these are all strong performers today. Again, this sector is the best. All right. A market rally continues. The s p flirting with that closing record high. The dow writing in 91 in st. It to saying that. Playing in the market. Dont worry. Our next guest says the rally is played out. Timing is on to even riskier assets. Yes. American Century Investments senior Portfolio Manager joins me now from los angeles to share some fundamentals of how to play of this rally. Its interesting. Youre saying that it is a riskon environment and that those that are not participating need to participate or really go after highrisk assets. What are you recommending they do . Well, arguably the easy money has been made. The first age of this recovery, the first taste of what is a bull market, which feels good after so many years. But you have to move to the next phase. And by that i mean those sectors in the market, the types of stocks and companies that have not fully participated in this rally and it as they logically should if we are, indeed, in a classic economic recovery. Smallcap stocks moved to mid cycle stocks, the more pro cyclical companies, technology, industrials, and energy and commodity stocks. Logically all going to prosper in the coming phase is if this rally continues. Cheryl less talk about the performance of the American Century global allocation fund. We are going to get into global because it is global. I was looking at your breakdown. A oneyear return. Youre willing to take that extra bit, that extra slice, im assuming, more International Markets this year. International markets certainly will benefit. In this particular recovery the u. S. Is the lead car of the train. But our trading partners in developed markets will benefit next. So we are globally waited and very diversified in a portfolio, as we are in commodity space as well for a number of reasons, including the potential for inevitably inflation to come around. Cheryl are also looking here we go. This is kind of a better Asset Allocation breakdown. When i find interesting is your bond position. Is this Corporate Bond positions i am assuming youre not going after u. S. Treasurys, for instance. Yes. Our diversified bond fund domestically has some treasuries, but we have been overweight in credits and highyield bonds for some time now. As we all know, that has been the place to be. Any risky assets, especially in bonn space. We are not taking excessive duration of Maturity Risk at this point. So per obvious reasons. Our average duration is somewhere around four years. Cheryl i want to show our viewers, bring a pot part of the s p. About two points away from a record close. I want to give our viewers a sense that we are getting close to a new record high. This could be a big day. Ten minutes to go. I do want to ask you also about sectors that you are avoiding. You mentioned u. S. Treasurys. One of your bigger holdings right now is real estate. Im thinking that 2012 will have been your signal to buy more. You are still going to bank on that sector this year. Is this u. S. Based real estate or international . Is globally defined. We implement through American Centurys global realestate fund run by steve brown, and it has been a winner for us as an asset class, as you can imagine of the last year so. Steve really hit the ball out of the park with a fund. We continue to overweighted. Because that sector has done so well and arguably we are moving to the mid cycle stocks, we have been reducing the overweight, but it has been helpful and continues to be from a better perspective. Also again from a potential inflation hedging perspective. Cheryl reducing. Is this specific things a youre looking at . I dont need names. Specifically is it office properties, hospitals, apartment . Where are you seeing some signs of weakness . Broadly diversified. They have done so well in price terms that the valuation metrics are no longer as compelling as they once were. It is very broadly diversified across all the major sectors. Again, across all major geographies as well. Cheryl kind of a general pullback. Want to talk to. One of those things we have been seeing is the dollar strengthening. This could open up a whole knew host of problems for u. S. Multinationals. Maybe not your problem, but this could open up some problems for you potentially overseas. How you played the dollar versus the yen, the dollar versus the euro, the sterling . We have an active Foreign Exchange component in our global allocation fund. What it means for u. S. Corporations, obviously it is going to hurt their exports. As you heard earlier in the show, it is atypical for a stock market like the u. S. And its currency to move in the same direction at the same time. We dont expect that correlation to remain awake. Logically we expect to see foreign currencies takeover from a dollar as the recovery expands internationally. In the near term, because of our heavyweight outside of the u. S. Relative to domestic equities and bonds, i think we are wellpositioned. Cheryl very interesting allocation, Asset Allocation. American Century Investments senior Portfolio Manager. Thank you very much. Seven minutes to go off. Closing bell will be running very soon. Want to let youuknow as we watched the s p and the dow, jack lewd just took the reins as treasury secretary last month.
