Could curtail online freedom they want to stop the European Union from implementing new copyright for web sites later today. Following terry martin welcome to the program in the u. K. Lawmakers have once again frustrated Prime Minister teresa mayes plans for brags that on monday evening m. P. s voted to take control of the parliamentary agenda there now to hold a set of a whole series rather of indicative votes on the countrys departure from the e. U. In an effort to find a solution backed by a majority may has said she wont be bound by the results but observers say this latest Development Shows just how much authority shes lost over the break that process. When it comes to break this unusual is the new normal the latest on president and move a vote by parliament to seize control from to reason mays government to debate alternative plans for leaving the European Union the Prime Minister says parliaments power play will likely result in more confusion. When we try this kind of thing in the past has produced contradictory outcomes or no outcome but i think there is. There is a further risk when it comes to brics it is the u. K. Is only one half of the equation and those could lead to an outcome which is on negotiate with the e. U. Among the proposals Parliament May consider staying in a Customs Union with the e. U. Or cancelling brigs it altogether the main Opposition Leader says another option is a referendum on the terms of the exit deal. We do not know what the house will decide on wednesday and this house must also consider whether any deal should be put to the people for a confirmation vote this is big this show where this government has failed this house must and i believe will succeed but the government wont be obliged to follow the outcome of the socalled indicative votes so far members in this house have agreed on how theyll debate but they seem as divided as ever on what happens next with briggs it. Earlier i spoke to a u. K. Corresponded to get mass in london and i asked her to explain to us exactly what happened in westminster last night and whats going to happen next. Well the whole breadth of process starts reason mekon find a way forward so in a really unprecedented move now parliament is trying to do this for her they are holding what you already alluded to the socalled indicative vote so theyre trying to find an alternative to that of his resume and its most likely to include some forms of self to break that may be staying within the Customs Union even another referendum so its numbed by ending for the government but also to reason may has said she will engage constructively with it because if she can just cannot get her own deal through the has to be a way out of this and this might just point to one possible solution. Is under growing pressure pressure from all sides what are the chances that she will have to resign well terrorism a really is in deep water and there seem to be so im conservative m. P. s who want to see her how droll theres been such a frustration with her leadership in her own party now others say well you might change the captain but youre still in the same storm and on the same ship so there isnt yet a concerted action to let her go weve talked to some london us and lets listen what theyve had to say. I dont think now is the right time change i think that just creates more confusion i dont think shes left well but im not sure that trying to put someone else personally im not sure what that would achieve at this point personally i really dont think thats going to help matters whatsoever shes probably got a handle on absolutely everything thats going on and at some point we do have to trust her and we. Played yes or a little embarrassing i would like to see her go almost immediately im not sure whether it would improve things but i think im a person and im i remain a so i want to stay in the e. U. And i want to see someone you know lead that will actually consider that as an alternative. Was you can hear this get this is im in peoples voice because we dont know if anything would actually be cvs and its just such a short period of time that thats really left at the moment that you know it might just not be the right time to to change leader right now ok well several of teresa mayes jr ministers have resigned from the cabinet even if she herself theresa may doesnt resign or government just end up collapsing around her. Well that is indeed absolutely an option how government is in deep trouble is indeed what is the record for us is absolutely start so munting speculate speculation as to whether its a reason they might even survive the end of the week so we shall see there thank you so much to bear good must in london. To the middle east now or across border fighting between Israeli Armed forces and militants in the gaza strip has entered a second day israel says its intercepted dozens of rockets fired from hamas controlled gaza bombing targets in response this latest violence comes after a surprise rocket fired from gaza hit a house near tel aviv and despite an announcement by hamas on monday night of a ceasefire brokered by egypt. Ceasefire appeared to collapse almost as soon as it was brokered israel said its ion dome rocket Defense System intercepted several launches with most others falling into open fields earlier in the evening iraq it aimed at the border town of sderot cut through defenses and destroyed a home no casualties were reported. The tit for tat attacks were triggered by a rocket that obliterated a Residential Home outside tel aviv in the early hours of monday israel said that rocket was launched by hamas the militant group that rules gaza the homes residents were awoken by air raid sirens and managed to flee before the rocket crashed through the roof an exploded. This is the real crisis and i just hated any of my family and if we had not got to the camp on sheltering time i would not be burying my family by nightfall the Israel Defense forces were retaliating with rocket attacks striking targets in gaza hideouts they say have hamas militants. The cease fire reportedly broke out by egypt and accepted by hamas late on monday was never confirmed by israeli officials the rocket attacks through the night show that if it ever really existed the ceasefire is at best shaky and at worst over before it even took hold. Over to our correspondent tanya kramer whos standing by with the latest in jerusalem tanya one side in this complex is a ceasefire is in place what can you tell us. Yeah thats true there where already at ten oclock last night local time reports of the ceasefire being focused by egypt and hamas put out a statement that hamas and the other militant faction were just here to a cease fire and would meet quiet for quiet meaning that it would hold us as. Strikes also rocket attacks into southern israel would be holton from the militant factions but it went on a couple of hours but put that last two three hours since the Early Morning actually it has been quiet this is obviously a tense quiet and we have to wait and see how the next hours have been developed now egypt has in the past already broken successfully cease fires so it seems to be the case at this time whether it will hold is another question. For you correspondent tanya kramer in jerusalem thank you so much. The cross border violence comes as the United States reverses decades of policy in the middle east by recognizing the Golan Heights as israeli territory u. S. President all trial trailed the decision on twitter last week during a visit by israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in washington troll sign a proclamation calling for recognition of israeli sovereignty over the territory israel seized the Golan Heights from syria in the arab israeli war in one hundred sixty seven and then i nixed the territory of nine hundred eighty one but that move had not been recognized by any other country until now. Now over the last few days tens of thousands of europeans have been out on the streets protesting a proposed reform of copyright law in the European Union theyre worried about how the new rules will affect free speech on the internet today the European Parliament set to vote on the deal so whats at stake well right if you use or uploads text video music or photos to a platform like you tube that person is responsible for respecting copyright restrictions the e. U. Wants to reverse this principle the new legislation would make a platform operators liable for their content for the content on their sites and they would face fines if laws are broken well the interest ten the intent is to force sites like facebook and youtube to monitor what users publish but critics fear that web sites will end up using automatic filters that also block material thats not restricted opponents of the bill say that could have a chilling censorship effect online probably in phone number takes a closer look. Never again c. D. U. Is what the demonstrators as shouting in front of the conservative party headquarters. Many are young and this is their first protest and they fear for their internet they believe the government is limiting their freedom. To have a small channel myself that might get deleted and something because of this fitness deletion censorship be it and things the government has underestimated the fear of article thirteen she says c. D. U. Politician herself but she cites with the protesters. But if manchild if it is a lot of popular you tube ers have raised this issue people who normally dont share their political views but now in this context with this issue they do they reach so many people these are huge discussions that until now have barely been considered in this debate. Politicians have long ignored. But to the demonstrators they are heroes julian alone has more than five million subscribers and has called for protests fired music videos like. The bodies of. Mine with other you tube stars to have suddenly become political tennis but harman is calling you re presented to us and asking them to stop the reform. And wants to prevent upload filters from deciding what makes it to the internet. These are going to machine work out the precise legal classification of something within a few seconds in billions of cases many of which would otherwise go to court in germany. I know stuff or has a completely different view he is an author who wrote the screenplay for a film about resistance fighters off the show and he has found all kinds of illegal copies on youtube. This means artists like him loose income the in the Digital World we actually are nothing because everything gets stolen. Thats why behind us office in favor of filters and police the opponents are being encouraged to you chip itself has indeed warned of censorship and called for people to protest as seen here and so now is the time to speak up. In the background is the major platforms with their economic interests stirring up the kids and telling them the internet break you will be taken away from you or you will no longer be able to have your own channels will no longer be able to advertise lipstick complete rubbish from. Where the to fear a conviction tens of thousands took to the streets of germany to protest. And more and more parties now share the concerns of the demonstrate to us. It could be that politicians have suddenly heard new arguments but it could also be that the pressure of future with and young people made the difference no politician once the voters of tomorrow and no party wants to appear ignorant on the issues. This argument will continue to rage at least until the vote in the European Parliament both on the internet and on the streets. With Reporters Without Borders thanks for being with us this morning so opposition to this copyright reform law is particularly fierce in germany we just saw tens of thousands of people there out on the streets why are people so concerned here. I think first of all everybody realizes now that in the internet everybody can be a Copyright Holder everybody can be creative and therefore everybody can be kind of effected by this law and especially i think the absolute filters raise concerns and i think these protesters are all right because my organization has already a lot of experience with upload photos and just the problem of these applet photos as youre also explained already they are not good like recognizing all these nuances on the internet so because there are a lot of exceptions for for copyright law also if you have a quota if you set tie you can also use. Pictures or videos that have a copyright and yeah i think people are now concerned that they are not able to use the internet as today so theres a possibility that some things might get filtered that shouldnt get filtered but as we saw in a report there there are screenwriters who see their work being uploaded with no authorization over and over again the proposed law is intended to provide more effective protection for Copyright Holders is not a good thing it is a good thing i mean. My organization protects free press freedom globally and of course we also fight for the rights of jollys who of course by definition very much concerned about their copyrights i think no one in this debate like disagrees with the aid to protect Copyright Holders the question is just how do you do it. Well we just have a lot of experience already with upload photos and i think. They are the just too vague and too broad in fulfilling the same ok assuming this reform law passes in its current form who is really going to be affected most so theoretically and i think also in practice everybody because on the internet everybody can be ok. Right well they you and me like if we if we want to share something on social media or we need kind of pictures and everybody kind of can be effective because everything will be filtered. And could take you know i think of calls that yeah creatives but also john lists will be affected im a lot because the by definition we kind of produce more content and yeah we have already cases in which were not able to upload things because they were blocked if you do these upload photos so how do you see this playing out do you think the that this law will actually this proposed law will actually come into effect one of the next steps. Well the next step today well it will be i dont know what what will be the results today of the palm and has to vote for it if they agree european Member States have to adopt it as well and there will be two years for everybody kind of to enforce the laws so i think it wont be kind of a dramatic change but i think it will change the way how we use the internet it if it really comes into force tenure thank you very much for bringing us up to date on this developing story daniel moss book a tech journalist with Reporters Without Borders to jordan and years of campaigning for the government to protect better women threatened by Domestic Abuse is beginning to bear fruit under the countrys Crime Prevention law its been common practice to jail at risk women supposedly for their own protection but last year the government polly opened a secret shelter for such women and as our reporters found out its giving them hope of starting a new life in safety. Its been years since mona last saw her husband but the abuse she suffered at his hand is still fresh in her mind. But. When the beating got really bad i would run away to the neighbors my husband suspected i was having an affair with my neighbor so he beat me again and strangled me. Authorities feared one of husband might kill her in the name of family honor so they put her in prison. The forty two year old mother of eight was incarcerated for seven months under georgians Crime Prevention law which has long been used to indefinitely jail women consider to be at risk of socalled honor killings supposedly for their own protection. The hope of a jailed me with women facing the death sentence women convicted of drug crimes were the ones on death row are hard to view if the whole lawyers were able to get more out of prison after her husband left the country but the circumstances of her release are extremely rare. A woman is usually told that someone must come and bail her out in guarantee has safety usually a brother or a father her son or her husband and thats difficult because these are often the same people who were threatening her they had to do all of. It is estimated that hundreds of women have been jailed under the pretext of protection with some spending over a decade in prison but after years of campaigning things are finally starting to change. According to the government cases like more that wont have to spend any more time in prison for their own protection and twenty eight in the Jordanian Ministry for social development opened this home known as the purpose of it is to house women whose lives are under threat by members of their family today were being given a rare look into the home and the lives of its residents. The shelter is subject around the clock protection and surveillance its location is kept secret. And is one of the first to be transferred from jail to the shelter after spending almost six years in prison. For safety reasons we cannot give details about the twenty six year old story only that her life is under threat from multiple members of her family. When i arrived here for two days i could not believe that i could just go out on the balcony and see people the world and life it had been almost six years and i had not seen the site and i had not seen people. Shelter director writer does that insists this is not just a place for the women to eat and sleep here they also receive psychological counseling legal aid and Vocational Training with the aim of reintegrating them into Society Children up to the age of six can remain with their mothers according for ted and when a woman comes to us shes entering an unfamiliar situation with let her know that being here is voluntary one of her choices on our first task is to comfort her help and once that happens working with her becomes much easier. Since its opening twenty women have been transferred from prison to the shelter around twelve still remain in prison but the ministry intends to gradually move them here as well three of the women transferred from prison have left the shelter after they were deemed to no longer be in danger if a woman wants to leave beforehand shes informed of the risks and cannot be held against her will. Michael thats too one day be able to leave and find a suitable place to live i do not want to be threatened anymore in. The opening of the shelter has been hailed as a major step forward but activists say the law which allowed for these women to be held in the first place must be repealed to guarantee this never happens again. Get a look at some sports now and football it was a big night for some of europes top nations in the latest batch of euro two thousand and twenty qualifiers world champions france defeated iceland four nil and paris portugal were held at home by serbia and there was more bad news for the defending european champions as because there were no though it was withdrawn with a suspected hamstring injury turkey breezed to victory against moldova and england overcame montenegro five one away well what should have been a good night for england was marred by racist chanting by home fans towards englands black players england have called on european governing body to investigate and come down hard one of the players to suffer abuse was rocking sterling he scored the best goal of the night and tweeted that it was the best way to silence the haters and yes i mean races its included a picture of his goal celebration aimed at the montenegro crowd.
