Wait, we will take a look at how the media is covering the president ial race. This is from the washington journal this morning. Toi want your reaction donald trump announcing yesterday that he would not be appearing and speaking as a pet, pulling up the day before he was supposed to appear. Really tough call. Thanks for having me. Tough situation brand. Between a rock and a hard place. Antitrump the movement developing. Organizing, and you can see a moment where there is a massive walkout or theres a lot of booing going on. Is, the voters are not in washington, they are in kansas. There is an election happening today in four different states. That is were donald trump is that he wanted to be because the bottom line is, if you see is today, four states, nobody will care that he ms. Cpac. Personally, im torn. It is where all the tribes come together once year. The conservative movement is a very diverse place. I learned early on. I thought that i was libertarian berkeley, andp at the Berklee College of public and were the only club. The liberal groups, they were very disjointed. National organization of women, students for justice in palestine, students against the death penalty. If you are of center, you end up in one club. Thats a nice thing every year. Thats it cpac represents. Ron paul people shot. Social conservatives show up. Gun people show up. Everybody gets together and gets along for one time. The other purpose of it which is so great, is with young people, with young people who are just getting exposed to conservative ideas, they have a chance in one place to hear from the brightest minds, the most thoughtful people. So, that is why it is a very convenient thing. Plus, people get to have a good time. Cspan is covering cpac today, marco rubio scheduled to speak. That will be live on cspan. Also covered donald trump event today. Its in orlando, florida. Hell be in west palm beach, florida later tonight. Back to donald trump, skipping cpac, this is a headline from right bar, after it was announced where was expected that marco rubio would be skipping cpac, and a lot of concern about that before he eventually decided that he would acu chairmanspeak, says marco rubio cannot unite the republicans without showing up at cpac. So, can donald trump unite republicans without showing up at cpac . Great question. We been accused of being a pro donald trump site. Breitbart does not have a dog in this fight. We have certain values that we like to push. That are important to us and bring to our readers and listeners for various radio programs. This is a very tough call, it will be more difficult for him to unite the cpac crowd, but the point is, will the cpac crowd interfere with him winning . Identity answers. Donald trump is made is ok galatian we will see how it plays out. He has been editor and chief of breitbart since 2013. Hes here to take your calls. Well start with the independence. Hello. Good to talk to you. What the general man thinks about donald trump cost approach to the crisis. For better or for worse, i think if the only guy that file for bankruptcy, i wonder if he knows, [indiscernible] Student Loans can be reorganized through bankruptcy. Would he be interested in solving this issue . 1. 2 trillion of Student Money to the economy. People can try to do something without the burden hanging over their heads. Ill listen to your comments off line. I dont actually have donald trump student loan position specifically. I am not a Trump Campaign spokesman or anything like that. Personally, i think that there this they big issue. A big issue not because of a particular candidates position, i dont think any candidates have is when exactly right, the problem right as if the University System that essentially overcharges people, a lot of it for these liberal arts degrees that are not turning into jobs. People come into the workforce and have these massive amounts of debt, sometimes quarter million dollars, and they cannot get work. Young people are getting demolished in the current job market. Abouts the one thing Donald Trumps policies, theyre are very much about America First in terms of job growth. He says he will bring 2 million jobs back from china. Its an uphill battle, but i think that that is a very of hisnt tentpole talking points, the other thing is immigration position, including sealing the border, hopefully to create more entrylevel jobs. So, having an immigration system that is much more common sense that it is now has been a temple for them, and i think that resonates. The should help with current student loan issue, because there are so many people coming out of college into the workforce and not able to procure work. Published about Donald Trumps position on Student Loans, from the fall of last year. Donald trump vowed to restructure the student loan process to stop government from profiting office did a month, so youll make it really good for the students are it he says it is not fair that government profits off of Student Loans in response to question about how he plans to fix the debt crisis. Quote we are going to restructure it and make it possible for people to borrow money, go to college, and they give her a portable right now. Right now, he says it is not very fair. Esther and from september. Interesting point. There will be a subsidy that the government will include for Student Loans. So, they will taken a certain amount of dollars and then the builder to students, a lot of it goes to bureaucracy and the university. It is essentially money extracted from taxpayers that does not end up trickling down entirely to the students. A lot of augusta bureaucracy are the schools, and a lot of them have a trillion dollar or billion dollars endowment. I dont know if that is good for other than to brag about it. Complicated issue, not one where i particularly come down strong with any pretty good candidate, but it sounds reasonable that he is talking about it. Jersey, anew republican. Iwould just like to read an article [indiscernible] we will go on to a net. From chicago. Democrats. Good morning. About a question, the comment i have is about donald trump, i feel that the media is feeling the rage and the hatred and the bigotry that is coming on the airwaves, because they give him more airtime. That any other candidate for president of the united states. Yet, they talked very badly about Hillary Clinton, you have hate, whousing represents the ku klux klan, who talks about president obama as a muslim. Who does not even have strong policies, or doesnt even know, policies, pretty much a literate and ignorant. And he is getting all of this attention and people are joking, every day, americans do not think this is funny. People are suffering, they have no food. Their jobs are gone. Theyre trying to find a way out, life is not a joke. I dont understand and a lot of people in the media, maybe they have a lot of money, maybe they dont know about the every day, hardworking americans who is suffering, who are really serious. The Media Coverage of donald trump, we talked about this in the latest issue where he represents the kkk, he has been disavowing david duke since the year 2000. He is going to have to because of the cnn video, he is going to have to answer to that through the general, assuming he gets the nomination. But the thing is, i would like to ask nbc news, and bcs when he has the number one show, and primetime tv, if they knew that he was some sort of the kkk guy, if you listen sort of grand wizard aligned affiliate . How about the thousands of people who work for the guy, this is all media hysteria that is been created to target donald trump. It is not that he is a bigot, it is that the media is always crafted this narrative. We saw this with mitt romney who is scandalfree guy. They try to get time taken on him. At the very end. Barack obamas campaign essentially accused him of murder because somebody died of cancer. The media crit scandals around republicans, that is what they always have done. They found this david duke thing, but actually dates back before he was a mainstream reality show star in americas living room every day. It is not a fair attack, this is media bigotry, and i encourage his positions at and look at what he stands for and what he has done his whole life, make up your mind. What is an example of a fair attack . The video would be fair, but the main thing, my main concern with him, would be that he does not seem to fully digested all of his own opinion sometimes in the debate. Firstly, i would like to see amber paramore for the debates, to have more of his positions lined out so he is ready to hit those bullet points. I think is a smart guy capable of doing that, but he doesnt seem to. He gets accused consistently of not having talked to specifics. Numbertion has been they one issue at bryn mawr news after the last couple of years. It has been very animating to the American People. The populist grassroots audience that we are growing. Over 20 million unique readers a month. Lots and lots of people. The issue that animates the most is immigration. He needs a detailed plan with the top immigration guy, the most knowledgeable, the most intellectual of the conservative movement, but does he let all the specifics when he talks about a . On how he is going to get 10 million jobs back from china. I wish you would do that more. He needs to show more discipline. I think their armor specifics that are out there that are on his website, it is just can he translate that to when he goes out on the stump . Pennsylvania, republican line. Good morning, thank you for taking my call. Im calling to ask him a wife Hillary Clinton still running. She should be disqualified. How can we trust or . Emails, the computer if you look at the dod manual, they would see that she has so many violations with that, that she is not qualified to go on and try to be president. We have laid off, and we have asked people to leave their jobs over Security Problems less than this one. Why would we ask her to be president . She cant send our boys overseas, at three clock in the morning, she wants in the many health. She wont answer the phone. I dont know where the parents and the families of the benghazi men, whether or not protesting. Seven deadly sins of Hillary Clinton, talking about it. She touched the couple of them, but that is a great start, why would you set up a personal, secret email server . Of course, because youre going to hide stuff. I talked about this with countless family members and friends were democrats, and i asked them, if they accept that, and there was a, she doesnt play the game. Is that it . At this point in time, when the candidate, donald trump for example and also Bernie Sanders are really running purely an authenticity, can you have somebody who has been a creature of washington, does not seem to know when she is lying when she is not. The truth for the clintons is whatever the clintons believe. Whatevers most convenient for them. That is what defines the truth. In the clinton world. That is why she can take the American People that she would disclose all the donors to the Clinton Foundation and then she does not. That is why you see with these the benghazi situation, she is complete culpable. She pushed us into the libya situation. And then when gadhafi was gone, she dropped the ball entirely and she lied to the benghazi victims. To their families. This is somebody, to we want to put this person back in the white house . That will ultimately be at the American People. You see why her base is eroding. When a giving a presentation . Around 4 00. Sometimes around a little bit off pace. That will be going on all day at cpac. Down the potomac river, outside of washington, d. C. Marco rubio expected to speak this morning. In about two hours, well be covering that live on cspan. Meantime, alex marlowe is her breast. Israel. Good morning. [indiscernible] im a hardworking hispanic. I got a job, im not getting where i canough meet my needs and all that and take care of my family. I am thinking about voting for Bernie Sanders, but theres a problem there, how are going to pay for all of this . We cannot pay for things that there is no money coming in for us to take care of the situation. Sorry, im a little nervous. Ok, so, how we going to pay for this . Theres a big situation going on. Donald trump on the other side. Yes, he is kind of crazy. He says something sometimes, that he willve, create some kind of star up in the whole process, and get into a situation where we need to open our eyes and see what is going on. He isonald trump, i think given a fair chance, he might do good. Bernie sanders, i just dont see how he is going to pay for all of this. Unless hes as everybody will make 16 an hour. Heredress the crossover with some Bernie Sanders supporters and also donald trump supporters. That goes to the authenticity point i was making. People are American Life right now, have a huge disdain for washington that people do not understand. This is a liberal and conservative thing. They said people do not like the permanent Political Class in washington, there is a crony asked atmosphere that is in the town, that is why we have an our executive chairman steve has called it billing town, because a lot of the richest counties in america stand washington. Because of lobbyist money and private money in government money. That kicked baxendale people are making, and Bernie Sanders was barely even a democrat, donald trump is only recently a republican, these are people not a part of the Permanent Party structure. That is what is so appealing about both of them is that they represent the rejection of the two parties that most of america at this point, are dismayed with. That is why everybody thinks the country is going in the wrong direction. We do not identify with a party at breitbart. Well do republicans just as accountable as democrats and that is been a huge event for us. I think thats what this color is really catching and on the. Given opinion on mitt romney statements about donald trump . The problem is that this is a tactic that is going to only help donald trump. Mitt romney is somebody was lost twice, somebody who, where was he doing Immigration Crisis . When we saw pictures of unaccompanied minors coming on the trains were they were risking life and limb . To cross the border and that sleeping and shelters with tinfoil over them. He did not want to speak out then. Mitt romney only chooses to speak out against donald trump, this is where he resurfaces, not during the trade battle, the budget battle. Re paul ryan is chosen by pushing a limp when a chilean dollar budget deal. We cannot afford any of that. We are in debt as a country. We cannot afford to add anything. We have two parties in washington adding all that stuff. So much drama in the last four years of the obama administration. Marriage, gun control, mitt romney opted out of all of that. He waited on one thing, donald trump. What does that show to supporters, that this is exactly why they like donald trump. We have bill for the independence line. Either question for the gentleman. There is certainly divisiveness amongst republicans, but it seems like they are steadfastly united in the mission to abstract barack obama. Im just wondering, how that comes about . Do people circulate some sort of memo . How does that happen . You look at Barack Obamas signature piece of legislation, it was passed with your republican votes. Obamacare was a purely the greatest expansion of government, essentially, in american history. He did it without one republican vote. The guy has sent a signal repeatedly that he is willing to do whatever it takes, even if he does not have old immigrant support, that is why he used the executive orders effectively, to be honest, tactically, you have to admire the guy, because he will do whatever it takes to get his agenda across. He is not at all interested in working with Republican Party. I must he can pull it off. Hes an ideologue, and hes doing every thing that he can to get the furthest left agenda that he could possibly get through. The republicans are not here in washington to try to aid in that. Actually think that they have helped him with john boehner, in particular, and sp koran, i think that helped them or that they should. Im on the opposite side of you. Hesmarburg editorinchief at age 28. What do you think Andrew Breitbart would think of how this Campaign Season has played out . Is really impossible to the words in his mouth. He was such an original. Always surprising you. I sat right at his right side for years and years, doing odd jobs from helping him edit helping with various duties to helping him pick up lunch. And take care of his kids, i have done everything. He would always surprise me. , pastor one part of him and talk about dodge avenue is active donald trump is a conservative. Andrew said, no he was not. This is just before he died. 2012s probably during the election. Donald trump is not a conservative. He is not a doctrinaire conservative. The second part of the clip with andrew, as he did talk about how what donald trump is doing is he has an ability to slay the media. That is what is very appealing about him. You know donald trump wears out of at a time, which is not a conservative. If you care most about somebody will stand up to the media the way that donald trump is in time and time again, then, that is his appeal. So, i think he would have liked a lot of the top contenders in the fact that the two guys who were the most antiestablishment have won 14 of the first 15 states, i think he wouldve delighted in that. Lets go to victor in maryland, a republican. Good morning. I have a question and an observation. My question is, i am legally blind and cannot see television that well anymore. Im curious, about comparing the crowds when obama was running in 2008, you hear people thinking and all that. Nd i like to compare that ive not heard anybody thinking or anything like that during the donald trump rally. Is, i am alsotion very angry about the illegal aliens and want them to leave. Since i cannot see that well, my girlfriend reads Bumper Stickers to me that she thinks are interesting, and im afraid that this illegal alien thing is going to get out of hand because she read me a Bumper Sticker that should be a picture of a gun and underneath it says, a good alien a good illegal alien is a dead illegal alien. Want to talk about that . I disavow that complete, its horrible. Hopefully she misread the Bumper Sticker. Is not greatuation in this country. We dont have a close border. That is a major issue. There is nobody calling for the murder of illegal aliens, but what is interesting, and this is what really propelled the donald trump rise, highlighting murder by an illegal alien. That is something that really resonated with a lot of our readers. Lets go to stephen florida, a democrat. Good morning. Im so disappointed with myself fellow democrats, and people at the current politicians. Several are in jail. Five of the last seven governors of illinois are in jail. Michigan, every city councilmember, or democrats, voted for this water to be pumped out of the flint river. This, can we get somebody to get the message that rick snyder he appointed a democrat to help flint, michigan, because the Previous Administration was corrupt. That is the only reason he had an emergency appointment. The flint river water project, and we need somebody that theg to democrats making big propaganda. We need leadership within her own party to tell these people the truth, where well just keep happening. Couldnt agree more and that is why think Hillary Clinton is struggling as much a she is. I dont think people are fully appreciate the Bernie Sanders is accomplishing. He is an older white socialist from a white state, and he is one of third of the state against clinton. More than a third, actually, at this point. It is the sort of thing where this is essentially a referendum on her. She is basically running unopposed. He was only recently a democrat. The fact that he is doing so well is because of these callers were going, why do i want this creature in washington, the person who represents washington more than anyone else on planet earth, why would he want to put her with all of her corruption, with the Clinton Foundation, with the speeches from goldman sachs, with the uranium deals to russia, reported by the new york times, where she essentially is trading favors for the Clinton Foundation for our country security. People are sick of that stuff. That is isolate people turned Bernie Sanders. Name oner wants you to donald trump Business Venture that has not gone bankrupt or failed. A point of the attack ads that have been thrown against donald trump. The guys had some bankruptcies, but that is part of the way the system works. Im nonexpert on the system, and the guy has had failures. The fact that doctrine is that some failures and bankruptcies, that is one of the parts of his resume that is not the most flattering. He is also employed thousands, tens of thousands of people. He is a fantastic golf course. ,s hotels and buildings especially when his cornerstone of his campaign is talking about building a border wall, the guys the guy builds guys favors. It makes sense. He has flats, bankruptcy is something the American People can do it. But they have to choose somebody else, and your choosing now with what looks like the top two guys against him, young senators who have not worked in the private sector. And have a great ability to articulate their viewpoints. A lot of that is very inspiring, but they have not employ people do want somebody who is had Business Ventures, some of which have failed, or people of not had Business Ventures, that is up to the people to decide. He came in this with his business background being history. Heres an advertisement about the donald trump Business Record your tell me if you think it is effective. That is actually ted cruz yesterday, we will get the advertisement from the club for growth for you. Here it is. Donald trump talks tough about china and mexico. But, who has thought of ever actually taken on . He hides behind bankruptcy laws. To death paying his bills and kill american jobs. He even tried to kick an elderly widow out of her home for eminent domain. A real tough guy. Donald trump takes on workers and widows. He will not do a thing to china and mexico. For growth is responsible for the content of this advertisement. Do you think theyll be effective against donald trump . I think a little bit. I think the widow story was a compelling one. But, he is pretty straightforward. Eminent domain. You can build on this country without it. I think a lot of our readers at our website and i like that. People are trying to brand me and our site one way. I think a lot of people do not like eminent domain. There is a raging debate in our comments. We like comments. We like to hear from readers. Thats a hot topic. Again, who are you comparing it to . Youre comparing it to people have never been a business, never Done International deals that he has. You have to choose a guy with a mixed record, and some success, or guys with no record. Host time for of a few more questions. We have a few more minutes with alex marlow. Line for republicans, good morning. Caller i have a question and an observation. I want to thank the gentleman mitt romneys why comments made so many people angry. Lose before, and these are voters who are voting what is in their heart, and they want change. The other observation is that if donald trump continues to win primaries and gets a high number , do you think there is a assibility of ted cruz being line with him and becoming his Vice President ial running mate . Would that solve the whole question of who is going to be on the ticket . Alex i think it is a great question. It would appeal to the antiestablishment crowd. Cruz represents the conservative wing. I consider myself a conservative. In terms of could they make a ticket, things got so nasty between the two of them, it is hard for me to say whether or not that could be reconciled. Donald trump, because he is not a creature of washington, he will have to stack his government, if he wins. Him offeringt with all of branches to the people he has called names over the years. Personally, i think that would not be a bad choice. Host lancaster, california up next, line for independence. Good morning. Caller good morning. Vet theseo candidates. Ted cruzs mother renounced her citizenship so she could vote in canada before she was born. When were marco rubios parents naturalized . It was three years after he was born. On citizenshipow conspiracies in this election. Alex i dont know if there is any conspiracy. What i have from learned, is a natural citizen. Ted cruz was born in canada. Its actually news to me that if you were born in canada you can become president. What we reported at Breitbart News is just straight news. Born ins mother was the united states, his father not. If the definition of natural born is one parent born in the united states, then ted cruz is in. Im not a constitutional scholar. I dont control the court of public opinion. That is worthy of putting out. I dont know what the conspiracy would be, but it seems like marco rubio is more clear cut the whole anchor baby issue. The discussion is if the mother is here, then you are a natural born citizen, so i think marco rubio is much more clearcut. It seems like people are having the debate about ted cruz. Host lets go to texas. Brian is waiting period good morning. Caller good morning. How are you this morning . Good morning, alex. How are you . Im going to start with a question, then an observation, if that is ok. Trumpof all, donald simply wants to bring jobs back to america, and he is a businessman. He could do that without being the president. If you think about it, if he is the president , he wont have time to do what businessmen do, and that is create jobs and do what he does on such a great level. I understand unfortunately that most of his businesses are failing and bankrupt. If thats what he wants to do, why does he have to be the president to do that . The observation, if you recognize from the start, mr. Trump, once he saw barack obama an office, his hatred for black men being in office was so intense that he took the position he took. He could do what he saw him doing, being a president. It incensed him to a point to where he began the bertha rights and all kind of things the birthing rights and all kinds of things to make this person seem incapable of what he is clearly able to do. As you can see from all those persons running beneath him, he can be in terms of Barack Obamas effectiveness, he has been unbelievably effective. People should look at him in terms of how to run a campaign. If you want to be a ruthless administration, not reach across the while, i think history will look at him as an example of that. He got a lot done. He got a lot of golf in, too. You have to credit him for that. Donald trump would be redefining what the office would be like, but a lot of the American People, particular those in the republican antiestablishment aresroots populist movement in for that. Im not sure a lot of my colleagues in washington and new york understand that completely. Host time for a few more questions. San diego, california, line for republicans. Caller i am an evangelical Christian Conservative voter, to my issue and what i want ask is the vast majority of the largest voting bloc of voters currently in the republican primaries are evangelical ,hristians, and underlying that we are for traditional marriage. Underlying that is the fact that we believe that homosexuality is a sin, and yet we have so many people in the Republican Party who say they want our vote, but then they turn around and promote gay marriage, the very things that run counter to what we believe them. I would give as a historical breitbartrew byte continues to employ people who are gay activist. We have the people in the gop and breitbart who are pushing the thing that is against us. I dont think you can cite any covered from breitbart that pushes a samesex marriage. Debate, illing to have a feel free to weigh in. We are a new site. We dont have editorial policies, but overwhelmingly our coverage has been on traditional marriage, and i dont think you can cite any evidence against that. Milo has been the most success or voice since Andrew Breitbart. There is no doubt about it. That is why his career has taken off like a rocket. He is as effective as the day is long. Host anthony is waiting period good morning. Caller how are you . I would think that if you raise the minimum wage to a mandatory 15 or 12 , no one couldrd pay anyone below that, but that would discourage people from hiring illegal immigrants, and even mr. Trump wont be able to do that. Alex i dont think that is the reality. Are notity is people always lawabiding and will end up paying belowmarket wages, belowmarket via you, and the lawabiding will be penalized. They will have to cut hours, cut jobs, and that is the reality of the minimum wage. When the market since the rate, if you want to artificially inflate the rate of what people are paid, then the business will have to cut hours or operate at a loss. The other alternative that we see, and ive seen it a lot in california, they will find illegal immigrant labor and oferpay them, and even some that money will be in the form of remittances, sent back to other countries, and it is a tonal mass. The real minimum wage should be it does a talking point the becausean candidates its not viable in terms of the voters, and that is fine. I happen to disagree with that perspective. Executive marlow at breitbartn news. Thank you for your time. Thank you for having me. We are looking live at west palm beach, florida, donald trump about to hold a campaign event. Been coming in for a number of States Holding caucuses tonight, and we will have a look at some of those results. We will go to louisiana, where donald trump has been with ofe winner the vote. Ted cruz with 24 . And marco rubio with 19 of the vote. Also having democratic primary, Hillary Clinton the winter there declared with 71 of the vote to 21 for senator Bernie Sanders. Kentucky, republican caucus, 38 of precincts reporting, donald trump in the lead with 40 . With 31 , anduz marco rubio 14 of the vote. With all precincts reporting, senator ted cruz declared the winner with a little more than 48 of the vote. Donald trump with 23 . Senator marco with, 17 of the vote. Senator ted cruz declared the winner there with 46 of the vote, and donald trump with almost 33 , and Governor John Kasich in third place there with just a little more than 12 of the vote. , democratic caucuses, Bernie Sanders the winter ander with 55 of the vote, Henry Clinton with him was 45 of the vote. And now back to our live west in palm beach palm beach, florida, where we are awaiting donald trump to hold a campaign event. We will just look for a moment now. Are live in west palm beach, florida, expecting an event shortly with donald trump. Now to oure a listen talk with a reporter about of coming contests in michigan. Primary is next tuesday, another test for the front runners. Joining us from detroit is todd spangler, a reporter for the detroit free press. Todd, thank you for having me. A doubledigit lead in most of the polls for secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and yet senator sanders back in detroit tomorrow. What using on the ground . Were seeing senator sanders dig into you know, she has such a pastor in michigan. She was the only one who whented here in 2008 senator obama bypassed michigan because it had an early primary. Doing well with africanamerican voters, particularly democratic primary in michigan. Africanamerican voters make up a big part of that electorate, and that does tend to account for what youre seeing. Senator sanders is trying to dig into that. Whether he will be successful remains to be seen. Hillary clinton travel to flint to talk about the water crisis in that city. How big of an issue is this in the democratic primary, and where does Hillary Clinton stand in terms of Political Capital she might have based on her previous visits to the city . Todd she has made this or issue. By coming out early regarding the high levels of lead found in flint in the water there, she has helped her self with the africanamerican community, which was already on her side. She reached out to the new mayor in flint, who almost immediately endorsed her. Senator sanders has also tried to reach out to flint. He has been there, mentioned it, called for governor snyders resignation on the issue, something that clinton has not. That being said, this has accrued to her benefit. She got there first. And the demographics of this are with her. What can we expect sunday night in the cnn debate . Be goinghink they will after each other on a lot of issues. You will hear a lot of the same things from them. I dont think there will be much difference between their stand need toact that flint new infrastructure and more needs to be done to restore public confidence. You still cant drink the water there yet. There will be a a lot of bashing of the Republican Administration in lansing, and the governor, and maybe rightly so. I think really what you will end up seeing on sunday is more of an attack by senator sanders against secretary clinton on trade. There have been passed trade deals that she has backed that some in michigan feel have cost of jobs here. Has been making hay on that recently. I expect more of that on sunday. Lets turn to the republicans, a new poll showing donald trump has a 23 point lead over senator rubio, senator cruz, and governor kasich. Governor kasich has been spending a lot of time in the state hoping to make inroads. What you see on that front . Not good news for governor kasich. He talked about the contest moving to the north and midwest, where he hopes to be doing better. He has been spending a lot of time since the New Hampshire primaries there, but the polls ive not shown much, single digits. Showed less ofk a lead for donald trump, 10 points, instead of what you just cited, but that being said, it seems to be donald trump on top, ted cruz and marco rubio plus 10 behind that, and john casey can ben carson well behind. It doesnt seem likely to change too much between now and john kasich and ben carson well behind. It doesnt seem likely to change too much between now and then. Fox news debate on the channel, it was 90 minutes before Foreign Affairs came to the forefront. Todd i was not surprised by that. Where the republican nominating contest is, there have been some made about mr. Trump, and specifically about the fact that on the same day the former republican nominee mitt romney who comes out and tells republicans they should not vote for donald trump, he cant be need a contested convention if anything else, that was going to set the tone for the night regardless of what happens, so im not surprised. Finally, is this republican raise fluid or is Donald Trumps lead solid . In michigan, Donald Trumps lead to seem solid. I was at an event with him easily today in warren, 3000 people there, or raucous crowd, very in disaster, just the sort of thing you dont often see in some of these events. Given the numbers themselves, one poll had him at 10 points ahead, others more than that, you have to think that something extreme would have to happen for him to lose. But the realcur, question as it has been before is whether or not ted cruz or marco rubio can dig in behind him and make a path going forward. Spangler writes for the detroit free press. Thank you for being with us. We appreciate it. Todd thank you. We are back live in west palm beach, where we had a look at donald trump and clearly people clearly expecting him, so we will just look in for a few moments. Again, we are waiting for donald trump to make his appearance at this event in west palm beach, florida. Leads inump currently the Kentucky Republican caucuses , which have yet to be called. We confirm that texas senator ted cruz has won the republican caucuses in kansas and maine. Democrats, the Associated Press has Bernie Sanders as the winner in nebraska, and Hillary Clinton the winner in louisiana. We will continue to bring you updates on the results of these caucuses as they become available. Youre watching live coverage here on cspan. We will continue to look in live in west palm beach, florida. Our guest for the next 45 minutes as we focus on the contest 2016 between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Todayre your expectations for the four primaries taking place on the democratic side of the aisle. Three today, im sorry. I imagine that pattern will continue with Hillary Clinton winning the majority of the votes and the majority of the delegates, but Bernie Sanders still viable enough that he could still in a position to win a couple of states. The democrats award delegates on a proportional basis, he will continue to come away with delegates. Point, people will start asking if clinton has a commanding lead, how long does he stay on the in the race and so forth, but were not at. Hat point just yet what does Bernie Sanders need to do to change the narrative here . Does it happen in the debates tomorrow, that cnn debate, dncsponsored debate in flint, michigan . Eleanor i guess he needs to shake things up to some extent. I guess that would mean going on the attack against Hillary Clinton. How it isd of know going to come out on the democratic side, she seems the likely nominee. He does not want a republican to win the white house, so at some point they will join on well before the convention, and Hillary Clinton needs Bernie Sanders. I think she has so far resisted returning to much fire in kind because she really needs his full throated support, and she certainly needs the energy and the backing of the people he is attracting, because then it becomes whether you can turn out the obama coalition. Hillary clinton has shown she can turn out africanamericans, hispanics, and older women in particular, but those young people, Bernie Sanders has a lock on them so far. She needs them. I am anticipating the moment 18. They really are really are a team. Host what did Bernie Sanders do wrong . The fact that he has accomplished what he has accomplished is a miracle, a 74 your old legislator in washington for almost 30 years 74 your old legislator in washington for almost 30 years. Then he bursts on the scene and figures out where the zeitgeist is, bringing all these dumb people to these rallies, thousands of people. I dont know that he was ever destined or would ever have been as aned to go the distance long time democratic socialist, but the fact that he has drawn attention to the issues he cares about and that the country cares about, he has affected the conversation on the democratic side. Going against clinton more know thatly, i dont that would pay off for him over think herun, but i really has gotten her into fighting shape, because everything he brings up, the republican candidate will bring up in a much harsher way, although one of his issues is certainly going after her on speaking fees, and im thinking of donald trump is republican nominee. I dont think he will be going after her on receiving money from goldman sachs, because they are his people, and he deals with such huge sums of money that that issue goes away. On emails, i gather that investigation will be coming to a close in early may, so we make it a resolution on that, how serious it is, or how serious it is in, so i think that issue will get resolved. GuestEleanor Clift is our , correspondent for the daily beast. She will be here for the next 40 minutes or so if you want to call in with questions. Are you expecting any fireworks tomorrow night in flint, michigan . What do you think the Debate Centers on . Eleanor i think more of the same. Them on both sides, but they do tend to get repetitive because the candidates are determined to get their talking points across. I look at the flint, michigan issue in the turning point in the clinton campaign. It was a closing statement in the New Hampshire debate, where she used the time to draw attention to flint. First she sent one of her top aides there, then she traveled there herself. I think that flint, the community there, the problem they are facing, is a metaphor for problems of similar communities across the country, and Hillary Clinton just bill, and her jobs she has more specifics than Bernie Sanders. When you watch these debates, you do get the message that sanders is so passionate about his issue, and rightfully so, but he is not all that comfortable when you move away thinkther areas, so i that we have not had much talk about foreign policy, which is again Hillary Clinton strong point. In flint, ebate is michigan, the problems of that community will be center stage. Host the flint water crisis was not addressed in that Republican Debate until 90 minutes into that debate. Here is the exchange, the question and answer, on that. If you talk to people in this state, they are concerned about flint on both sides of the aisle , so why havent gop candidates done more or talk more about this . I know i have talked about it, and other candidates have talked about it as well. What happened in flint was a terrible thing. It was a systemic breakdown of every level of government at the federal level and state level. Politicizing of it is unfair. I dont think someone woke up one morning and said, lets figure out how to poison the water system, but accountability is important. I give the governor credit. He took responsibility for what happened, and has talked about the need for people to be held accountable. Heres is the point, the way the democrats have tried to turn this into a partisan issue where republicans woke up one morning and were trying to decide how to poison some kids with lead. It is not true. We should Work Together to solve it, and there is an appropriate role for the government to play at the federal level, not just to deal with people impacted by it, but to ensure that Something Like this never happens again. Host has it become a partisan issue . It has become a partisan issue there because the governor is republican and decided there were some decisions made to save money that eventually led to the poisoning of the water in flint. I think you could hear in senator rubios response that republicans are mostly concerned with protecting rick snyder and his role in this, and deflecting it to the washington and epa. Actually, there was one figure at the epa who was fired or let go, so i think the responsibility there has been ignored, but if you going to talk about local control and returning power to the states, and states are allpowerful here, i think you have to acknowledged that the State Government there really failed the citizens of flint. People have said that if this were a suburban white community, would this have ever been allowed to go on to the extent it did. I think we all know that the answer is no. Host lets get to the calls. Oni really enjoy you mclaughlin group, and i would like you to talk about your Many Republican governors across the land. I believe that the people understood how badly these governors have put their citizens, they would not be so enthusiastic about the Republican Party, because they are really mean and im caring, and i also believe i uncaring. Goned trump has really after issues not focused on by the media. Correspondence provide real news about the real World Without loads and loads of commercials. I would recommend that to cspan viewers. Eleanor thank you. The color makes a number of good points. Say Rachel Maddow on msnbc hammered away on the flint issue and brought National Attention to it, so give credit where credit is due. In terms of the governors, there were a number of governors running in the cycle, and they bush, governorb christie, his Credit Rating downgraded, his Approval Rating do, so the governors did not well in the president ial field, except governor kasich. Jindal, one of the early dropouts, now former governor. I dont think you can claim that the citizens of louisiana are better after his tenure. Governor brownback of kansas has really put into play many of the conservative ideas, the School System is suffering, the state budget is not doing well. Point tohink you can any of the current crop of republican governors necessarily as models of excellents. I think Susana Martinez in new mexico might be an exception to that, but over all the governors have not fared well. Sam is waiting, line for independence. Good morning. Caller good morning. I watch you on the mclaughlin group. My question to you is, given the current state of the primary foress, is this an argument perhaps moving away from a biparty system to a multiparty system . It is, it would be the first up in a very long process. I think you have to look at what is happening on the republican side, and you wonder is the party going to break up into more than one entity . Are they going to figure out what they stand for . So i think we are looking at a process there. The moderators at the beginning of the primary season asking of everyone to take a pledge to support the nominee, and donald trump took the pledge, and took the pledge again the other evening, and now you have republicans talking about splitting off if donald trump gets this nomination. They want to go off and start another party. You have some minor parties already that have a line on the ballot, the constitution party, the libertarian party. There is some discussion in republican circles about possibly running an alternative if donald trump became the nominee. So boundarty system is in this country that it is difficult to break off. Couple ofd a independent candidacies, ross perot was considered a successful candidacy because he did actually get double digits and percentages, but never actually won a state. , the formermberg mayor of new york, has been looking at jumping into the race, but i think he looked into it before and has always been dissuaded because he does not think he could actually win any race or impact the outcome, except perhaps in a negative way. It is very hard in this country to break out of the twoparty system. Host lets head to cottonwood, idaho. Our line for republicans, good morning. Caller good morning. I would like to ask eleanor if she does not think there should be a whole lot more transparency in our government, our elected officials, and for instance, who is actually contributing money to the political campaigns on both sides. Who is contribute money to Hillary Clinton, what companies, the banks . And dont you think if donald trump has to come at you know, show his tax returns that Hillary Clinton should show hers . This thing from the times new york times, trump should show. Shouldnt Hillary Clinton show the transcripts from her talks to the banks . Every candidate should have all of the tax returns revealed, those contribute in money for their campaigns. I just think there is a lack of transparency across the board. Well, it is standard procedure for president ial candidates to release their tax returns. I dont know to what extent the clintons have, but im sure they will when she gets the nomination. If donaldd think that trump does get the nomination, that he would as well. You might remember from 2012, there was a lot of conflict over mitt romney and whether he would release his tax returns. He finally did, and they show that he paid less as a percentage of his taxes than the ordinary worker, which is presumably why he resisted putting them out there, but yes, you are absolutely right. There are some things that the public has a right to know. In terms of the campaign donations, i think we can fault the Supreme Court there and the Citizens United decision, which ically a loud people basically a loud people to give huge amounts of money without having to reveal their identity. I think the republican side has taken more damage of this than the democratic side, but whoever does it, it is an outrage. I would hope that the Supreme Court would have some point overturn that decision and get rid of that extraordinary loophole. The transcript of the new york ,imes, maybe the shocks people but elected officials, sit down with editorial boards all the times, not just the new york times, but around the country, for off the record sessions, so the person speaking does not have to worry that every word he or she is uttering can be a frontpage story. That is standard procedure, and then your times is not going to release that transcript, and i think donald trump is correct in saying that he is not going to violate those ground rolls. Now maybe there is something he said there that he was to protect, understood. Maybe he would be smarter than taking the heat for that decision to just release those transcripts. Hillary clinton, i think she would be better off releasing the transcripts of the speeches she made. I think they are what are called boilerplate, but there may be some small exchanges back and forth where she might say to executives at a wall street firm, thank you for your service to our country, the kind of smalltalk people make when they want to ingratiate themselves before group. Figuring that is what ever she releases will only add to questions, and she decided she would rather take the heat. I think both donald trump and Hillary Clinton have sort of held their ground on that particular issue, so maybe they cancel each other out. Host if you had an off the record conversation with an itcted official, and later became an issue and they told you it was ok to release the off the record conversation, the transcript, whatever notes you took from it, would you as a journalist . Was told by the person that the ground rules no longer mattered to him or her, yeah, that would be fine. But off the record is something that journalists take very seriously. I would never violate that kind of confidence. Host lets go to fort lauderdale, line for democrats. Good morning. Caller good morning. I want to talk about the primary for the democrats right now. Im in florida and will be , and what imek thinking is that people are starting to talk about the ticket, the Vice President ial pick. It seems so obvious to me that if clinton wins the primaries and is the nominee, then sanders should be the Vice President. It is so obvious. I cant believe people are not talking about it. I see people floating different names, but sanders name is not floating up. Coming up. As Vice President , he would be speakse to her, have to about his ideas about Foreign Affairs, which i think is important, as well is being president of the senate. He could initiate all they legislation he wants. All the legislation he wants. Sanders would also bring all of these young people that love him so much to work for getting out vote, and to keep the Democratic Party energized. So i think people should Start Talking about Vice President ial picks, may be inching towards a time to talk about Bernie Sanders, although he may still be the nominee. Eleanor i think you make a very good case for picking Bernie Sanders, but when i look back historically and see two people battling it out towards the end, very rarely does the winner picked the runner up as the Vice President. Host you think there is some animosity there . Eleanor there was some clamor for barack obama to pick Hillary Clinton in 2008. Why didnt mitt romney pick santorum in 2012 . The exception is Ronald Reagan , who did take the runnerup, george h. W. Bush. He also took a jim baker and put him in the white house as chief of staff. That was an extra day matchup that worked out really well, but you dont see that very often. I dont see a 69yearold president ial nominee, which is what Hillary Clinton would be, yearold to ber ol Vice President. It would not fit the bill of someone who could become an instant president , presumably younger and healthier. Joe biden older than barack obama, so that violates that as well come as you can find exceptions here. I cant imagine that Bernie Sanders would really want to be Vice President. The Vice President ial job is much more substantive than it has been given credit for, but its also a lot of filling in for the president at funerals on that sort of thing. I think Bernie Sanders could be viable in the senate. I dont know necessarily if he would even want to be her number two. On the lines for republicans, good morning, victoria. Caller let me remind you that i am an american. I have a choice to be for whichever party i want to choose , but since you mention republicans, you know, i used to live in michigan, and it was a beautiful state. What saddens me is these folks ,aving to drink rotten water and i am all for the perception that everybody in government has been very negligent, regardless of party. I am an american. I cant imagine in this country that we allow these officials who are placed in their position to take care of us by our tax dollars, that these poor folks in flint and around this country are being exposed to this filth that is going on, and the corruption that is going on, and dissensionsvile going on. These people are alive, brief. Born children are being with the lead in them. How shameful it is to this nation to think that we are living like rats, and those poor folks in flint and around this country, and you wonder why we are so angry with the politicians, with our media, with our journalists. They do not get it. A lot of anger there, and rightfully so. If we take away all the issues about the economic disparity with flint, take away the racial asues, just looking at it penny wise, pound foolish. To save money,it and created a generation of Health Problems for children that the government will have to pay for in many ways. So in the end no money is saved. Our infrastructure is in terrible shape if you look at communities around the country. Here in washington, memorial bridge, this iconic bridge that tens of thousands of cars pass overy day every day, they think they can patch it to be good for another five years. It needs rebuilding or it will become a pedestrian footbridge. Past, republicans and democrats have worked together in a bipartisan way to spend money on infrastructure. I remember when Ronald Reagan was in the white house and there was a recession and he called in the Democratic Leaders and said what are we going to do about this, lets spend money on transportation, and the democrats it, how much . This didnt used to be an issue. Host went to become an issue . Eleanor i think during the clinton years, money was spent on the infrastructure, george w. Bush years. It became an issue under barack obama. It is almost an irrational dislike of this president , where they dont want to give him any and also itory, arrived with the tea party and the obsession with the deficit and you cant spend money on anything. When the Interest Rates are so low, we should be borrowing money and spending money on infrastructure. It would be a wise expenditure. Host pennsylvania, line for democrats. Good morning. Caller good morning. Eleanor, i follow you on the mclaughlin group, too. , andre an educated woman you really hold your own on that show. Im so proud of you when i watch. Eleanor thank you so much. Caller today there is no middle class. We are are all average americans. Now people have to hold 23 jobs just to survive. They are not being educated. Theyre getting their educated on foxsocallednews. They are trying to make ends meet, and thats why the voter turnout is low. They love burning, and bernie is speaking the gospel. This is all dealing with the economy. That is why crime is up. Might a check has been stagnant since the reagan recession. The thing is, Everything Else has gone up or you can only be so frugal else is gone up. You can only be so frugal. People are getting their debt, how going in to much profit is profit today . I think thats the biggest problem. Im not a millennial. Im 63. If bernie doesnt get it, i will vote for hillary, but i will email her at every day if i can , because i think the democrats want to be republicans. Host on the issue of turnout, 2. 6 million fewer people came out to vote in the 11 states so far reporting results from primaries on tuesday, so that number down on the democratic side of the aisle, but on the republican side of the aisle, voter turnout is 81 higher than it was during the 2012 elections , so two different stories. Lets face it. The race on the republican side is like watching a car crackup constantly, and its more exciting from an entertainment point of view. On the democratic side, i think most people who Pay Attention probably figure Hillary Clinton is going to win, and they are not super motivated. Ishink Bernie Sanders disappointed. After he won that huge victory in New Hampshire, i think he thought the revolution really was building, and people did not turn out for him in nevada, so you dont have the excitement on the democratic side. Noted, i think when we get down to a democrat versus a republican, the contrast between the two parties on virtually every issue, from Climate Change to reproductive rights, to foreign policy, is so stark that it is going to be sort of a motivating factor for both sides. Host 10 minutes left with Eleanor Clift of the daily beast. , we wills of the aisle be joined by editor in chief of Breitbart News to talk about on the republican race. Time for a few more calls. Oakley, nebraska, good morning. Morning. Ood i want to say hello to the whole world. Back to theo popular vote, if we ever have that. We are living in the horse and thingsays with the dumb they are doing in nebraska today. They call it a caucus, but i have to give obama credit for getting us straighten out again after the mess that hillary wenton and her husband dont ever want them in there again. What did they do to us . , shiperegulated the banks car manufacturing to mexico and got tohings, but we have get to popular vote. I changed from democrat to republican. Im a registered republican. We have to get back to that popular vote. I better shut up. Eleanor jump in. Eleanor i do understand the allure of the popular vote. Every four years, there is a lot of debate about whether it should be reformed, should the process start in the two states that are not characteristic of the country, iowa and New Hampshire. But after all this talk, there is a kind of rough justice that comes out of all of this. I think it would be a lot of room there for manipulation, too. Host lets go to glenville, minnesota, good morning. Caller good morning. Eleanorst calling about alluding to Bernie Sanders perhaps should drop out for Hillary Clinton say, the democrats sake, and i am a Bernie Sanders supporter. I know a lot of people who are. It is a must unanimous, except for one of your previous callers re, we are not voting for Hillary Clinton if sanders does not get the nomination. I know a lot of people are planning on writing him in our voting independent. I hope theyre joking about voting for donald trump if Bernie Sanders does not get it, but i think Hillary Clinton will get a lot fewer votes than many people think she will because ,eople like me dont trust her her previous actions, and just her whole history. We wanted Bernie Sanders, and were not going to settle for Hillary Clinton. How much this Hillary Clinton have to worry about that . Eleanor i think she is very concerned about winning over Bernie Sanders supporter. S. I hope the caller would listen to Bernie Sanders. His supporterst to stay home and put a republican in the white house. If you really care about Bernie Sanders and his message, i think you might want to listen to what he would like you to do. This is still playing out. Im not asking him to drop out. I dont think he should. He has a message that people want to hear, and that hilly clinton certainly wants to incorporate. Host in terms of issues still playing out, how much does Hillary Clinton need to worry about or should she be the reports that the Justice Department has granted immunity to that former staffer. According to the washington post, the officials said they had secured the cooperation eleanor as i recall at the time, the clintons were encouraging him to testify. Lawyers frequently dont want you to incur any possible liability. It will cost a lot of money and grief. At the time that was happening, to select committee on benghazi on the hill was in the hot pursuit. If you talk to people at the clinton campaign, they are glad he is cooperating, and dont feel he has done anything wrong. I gather the investigation will be wrapped up in early may, and then it will be decided whether any civil complaint are going to be brought
