[laughter] but i learned the value of a dollar and went on to not an ivy league are like the other candidates, with very public i went to clinton university, graduating with a degree in accounting and i met my husband, my first weekend there and we dated for seven years we been married 26 and we have two children. And from there i went on and i work in the corporate world for a while command that i came back on the Family Business one day i was sitting down with my mom. Telling her how hard it was to make a dollar. How easy it was for the government to take it. And she said, dont complain about it, do something about it. I did not know that you are not supposed to running is 30 year income it had primary come i did not in ignorance is bliss and once we realize that he was related to half of this become the only option was to win. And we had a republican else in a Republican Senate and a republican governor and i was furious. And i went to the speaker the house and i said, this is why the people do not trust us. All the bill is it anything important enough to be debated on the Florida House for the senate, was important enough for the people to know how the legislator voted. In the speaker said, put the bill away and we dont need to have it and we will decide with the public needs to see and what they dont read and i remember going home to my husband saying that if i cannot even get it legislative votes on the record, what am i doing here. And he said, then fight so i went around the state of South Carolina benefit did you know all the bills passed in the house, only 8 percent were the record. Of all of those passed in the senate, only 1 percent was on the record if you do not know how your house number voting, 9u didnt know how your senator voted to come 9 percent of the time, how did you know who to vote for at the pole and the people of South Carolina were shocked. But this in perspective my first year in office was chairman of the freshman class month second year of his majority wept and record your bugs on a Business Committee for the artist subcommittee chair thinking. And 67 percent of the raiders were not proficient in math i know you go at two years of lockdowns and we are in a world of hurt. I do not want theirs touched. My kids are in their 20s. They are the ones we go to and we say we are changing the game for you. We change their retirement age to reflect life expectancy. We match increases towards inflation. Make sure we the benefits on the wealthy we expand Medicare Advantage plan so that everyone has more. That is how we start to pay down debts. That is how we get under control. When it comes to education but we knew in South Carolina was of the child could not read by third grade or four times less likely to graduate high school. So we made sure we held all the kids back in third grade who could not read but we did reading remediation programs we did it with their parents. We make sure they were in summer programs we were going to make sure we are setting them up for success. We cant do that all across this country. We need to Start Building things in america again and so we need to start putting vocational classes in our high schools. South we had apprenticeships. We taught people how to build the things we had in our state. Lets teach our kids how to make things in america. Lets focus on the fact that every parent should know whats being taught to their children. This should be no smokescreen between what a parent knows what a child is being taught and they should have said that. And yes every parent should pick the school their child is going to because a parent knows better than any Government Official on what should happen. And finally, with our universities we go to them and say you either take chinese money or you take american money. But the days to be taken both are overbrook the chinese infiltration out of our universities. When it comes to crime you have the backs of our Law Enforcement. Remember we always take care of those who take care of us of the backs of our Law Enforcement and have the numbers of her criminals. We hold them to account for and make of them would go toward District Attorney we telling to start prosecuting according to the law. When it comes to illegal immigration, when i was in governor we pass on the toughest illegal immigration bills in the country. And we put in a mandatory everify program that anyone can hire anyone without anyone there legally but thats how we are able to make a difference in South Carolina. Who do mandatory everify across this country but with fire the 87000 irs agents and would put 25000 Border Patrol in ice agents on the border. We would stop the hundreds of billions of dollars in handouts that are going to Illegal Immigrants now. We would defund the sanctuary city and we would make sure we went back to remain in mexico because guess what no one wants to remain in mexico. We would keep title 42. Above all things instead of catch and release boots are to catch and deport that is the way will take care of illegal immigration in this country. When it comes to Foreign Policy we will let countries know what we expect of them. We will not be reactionary. We will put them on their heels and let them know. We would put our naval fleet back in the black sea i never shouldve come out of there in the first place. That would tell them we are paying attention. Do not go to them and say you should be with us. You go to them and say what you care about . They all care about their kids education. They all want opportunities for their kids that they did not have. They all want to save america that is strong abroad. So, in order to do this if you are really ready if you want to save america, it is going to require courage of every single one of us. Courage for me too run encourage for every one of each note dont complain who get in the general you do not play in this primary. You have to be involved in this primary. I went and asked me why i was doing this. Im doing this for my parents. They came here 50 years ago to an america that was strong, and proud, and full of opportunities. I want them to see that again. I wanted to know they made a good decision. Im doing this for my husband and his military brothers and sisters. I want them to another sacrifice mattered we do appreciate our freedoms we do love our country. Im doing this for my daughter who just got married and i see how hard it is her and her husband are trying to buy a home. I race her to have a good credit score now shes being punished by that by bite into. Hundreds my son whos a junior in college see writing papers things he doesnt believe in just to get an a. That is not us. Lets not america but the first time in history 70 of americans said they dont think there americans will live a good a life as they did. I refuse to let that happen. Do not trust the cia, the fbi, the irs bringing them all the cdc i just dont trust them. I just dont. I dont trust democrats and republicans i think of the same quite frankly so the first one how are we going to not ensure border fraud so we can get to win . In 212 are in their grants or other limited power and money at you. How are you going to handle it . That was a lot. [laughter] s so the first thing i will tell you is i dont trust them either. I dont trust congress. I dont trust any Government Agency in d. C. Because they have led us down. We are sitting there paying so much in tax dollars of what are weakening for it . What is congress and few . What is anyone doing . What i will do a bigger so we focus in on every agency first before i focus in on my what we can control. We went in and looked all the programs need to be brought down look at problem people and agencies causing us issues. Brought down spending i gave those agencies goals they had to meet within the first 90 days. Within the first 180 days. We always had them doing that and we incentivize agencies to give money back to the taxpayers. Because what i saw those agencies kept spending the same amount of money because they thought they would not get in the budget the next time if they didnt. Mountains of computers and mountains of the printer we started calling them out on it and told that they needed to give money back to the taxpayers and we supported and rewarded them when they did that. We will do that. Well make sure he clean house and our agencies because we have to be there to bloated to big and known trust them. Weve got to get them working for the people. I have had some experiences governor doing that. We can do this and he stated bigger level we got a focus on the agencies first. He talks about voter integrity. When i was governor South Carolina in 2011 i proposed voter id. I was vilified for. And i said if you have to show picture id to buy you got to show picture id to get on a plane does not show picture id to protect the integrity of the election process . The president said i was disenfranchising voters i said okay, i hear you, i hear you. You think im disenfranchising voters to anyone who cannot get an id we will go pick them up. Well take him to the dmv. Well get them a free id will turn them home safely how many people asked for a ride . Twentyfive who passed voter id in South Carolina we now have more people voting than ever before and hear this it is absolutely racist for them to imply minorities are incapable of getting an id print they know how to get an id. What we saw after covid was a people took advantage of cuvee. All the rules went out the window. We saw secretaries of state doing things without getting legislative approval. With a lot of mail out balancing which cause concern once covid is over with lots of states have gone and put in voter id and we still have that states that are a problem. And we know which ones they are. We cannot stop until people have complete trust in our election process. We have got to keep going. Weve got to keep focusing to make sure to protect the integrity of the process i will always fight to do that because transparency is a good thing but thats not a republican or democrat thing. Everybody wants another vote count and we need to make sure we do that. So if you havent noticed i am a woman of a certain age there are a few others in here in the room as well. He spoke earlier about Social Security being bankrupt and 10 and medicare and five avery talked about upping the retirement age and expanding Medicare Advantage. Is that enough if elected . Tell me the steps you would take to ensure because Social Security is an element of Financial Security retirees as medicare is Healthcare Security for us. So tell me how you are going to make me feel better about the continuation of that benefit. Retirement age we would raise is for those in their 20s. So have comfort in that, we would never do that. The second thing is that america should always keep your promises. Especially to americans. You are expecting certain amounts. You have put in a certain amount. I will work with congress to make sure that no matter what you get what was promised. We have to reform entitlement. It is important to do that. There is a wait to do that we start from the young ones and go up. But we do not have to let you down we do not have to break a promise to you and i think we owe that to you. Any problems that has been made to any senior, that you have a question or worry about getting that money. Will do whatever it takes. Congress also spent on Honors College we can make sure you get your Social Security. I am a senior at new england college. Recently said we need slid the status quo in the past and referring to president donald trump. How will you change the status quo . Is not just talking about donald trump but i think we need to leave the status quo, the drama and the baggage in the past. We need a new generation. It is time that we have new leaders that can bring new ideas to new problems that we have. It is really important that we do this. Any and all of them need to go back to having a director who knows what the mission is has an internal Audit Section that does nothing but audit them every day all day to make sure they are spending the money the way theyre supposed to go. Any and all those agencies need to know what the core mission is. Right now we need intelligence agencies. We needed to know what our enemies were saying. When he showed her enemies were doing and how to get in front of it to fix it. We need good intelligence and right now we got a problem. One, there to meet people that have access. To the way they classify got to make sure to modernized to give us what we need. For a long time when we looked at military and we thought about war it was land, air, c. We will start calling out those agencies print but it starts by who you put in those agencies but youve got to put people in those agencies that understand their mission. Not political people. But people who truly understand their mission. And when we do that and the other thing we do focus on is agencies, no one should stay in the same position longer than five years. They should be rotated. It makes them a better employee and it keeps anyone from having singular power in the way this has developed and become. Thats we will clean it up that so we will fix it.
