I was trying to make something that would inspire kids today to want to continue and do the same thing by showing these stories that are totally human. You know. If you look at any of what all of these people have one thing in common. At some point in their life they were inspired to follow their dreams and make something of it. Whether its buddy guy or rick nielsen or chuck d. Whatever it is at some point in their life they caught the spark. They were like this is me and what i want to do for the rest of my life. Jon what was so good about what you captured. In each inter action. In each city there is a moment where you feel that spark. Not just explore it but you feel the electricity. There is a moment. Maybe for musicians. The feeling when you connect on the artistic level and it crackles. I interviewed about a hundred people when i sat down to interview people i didnt have questions. Jon what. They were conversation thats turned into lessons. There were things i didnt know wheufplt talked to someone about the blues or jazz or country, nashville there were things i didnt know. I imagined myself as the viewer. They would Say Something that would totally blow me away. I would think i have to use that. People need to know this is how it works. Jon turning that into the creative process. So unusual here as well, in terms of song writing. So, im sure you have ideas in your head and fragments and ideas, mel diaz. Youre saving the lyrics in the cities just before you record. Yes. Basically we went to each city for six days. We load the equipment first day. We start reported the second day. By the end of the day we have a drum track. That night would i interview something. Then the next day guitar stuff and per k gs cubs. I did that for four days. The fifth day i take the tran crypts home. Then i pick out words and sentences and phrases and put them on this side of the journal. On this side of the journal i have the outline of the song. I would cut and paste. The finale of the episode is the performance of the song you see us putting together. We perform the song. You see the lyrics on screen. You recognize the lyrics from the episode. Jon remarkable. I didnt realize the process was six days. On the seven day i assume [laughing] [ applause ] jon and the respect and love. It made me yearn for that type of camaraderie. Comedians have a camaraderie when you go in. I dont know if they nestl necey have the regional flavors or the type of music. The sharing of influences. You dont often see i sat down with the prop guy. Im a carlin guy. We came up with something beautiful. That ability to collaborate seems to inviting. Well communities are really important. Its different now. Everything is so inter connected. It use to be these places were isolated somewhat. You would have regional sounds. There were reasons why jazz comes from new orleans. Why the blues made its way to chicago. Why nashville became a country capital. Why the music from seattle jon your map is all [beep]. I think that was new zealand. Alaska. Now everything is inter connected and the communities have become one big community. One thing thats important for people to understand is one of the most rewarding things of playing music is doing it with other people. Communities support each other the Punk Rock Community when we were young it was like you and your buddy. You didnt imagine it would leave your city or your local club. It was your pals. You did it. You had your band play with you. You played at a friends club. I think that some people may, may imagine these days you dont need that. You can do it on your own. Its really important to work with other people. Because you get inspired by them. You push you to do other things. The sense of community is important. Jon boy that comes through aces in the program.
