Welcome to our viewers in the United States and all around the world. This is new day. Its friday, august 21st. 6 00 here in new york. A whole new phase now of the campaign where the contours could not be more stark. Joe biden vowing to lead the nation out of the darkness and into the light, in a speech hes been waiting to give for maybe 33 years. Democrats hoping that the weight was worth it and giving the uncertainty plaguing the country and the pandemic weighing it down that maybe the moment met the man. It was an address bookended by messages of hope, quoting a poet quoting that this is a time where justice can rise up and hope and history combine. What does it mean for what we see next week at the Republican Convention . We have fresh reviews this morning and new details about what the biden camp expectsed the for the next 74 days. Biden also outlined what he sees as President Trumps failure with coronavirus and his own plan to overcome it. Biden spelled out how he would better protect america. The u. S. Just saw another day with more than a thousand deaths. But there are signs of progress. New cases are declining or Holding Steady in much of the country. But lets begin with a wrap of the dnc. Jessica dean is live in wilmington, delaware. Jessica . Reporter good morning to you, alisyn. On that final night of a totally reimagined Democratic National convention, joe biden, who was first selected to Office Nearly fiver decad five dazed aecades ago to the u senate looked into the camera and promised he would draw on the best of america to lead this country out of darkness and into the light. Joe biden greeted supporters from a social distance, as fireworks ill aluminum animated t illuminated the sky in a drivein style at the firstever virtual Democratic National convention. A celebration after biden officially accepted the nomination to become the current president ial candidate. The current president has cloaked america in darkness for much too long. Too much anger, too much fear, too much division. Here and now, i give you my word. If you entrust me with the presidency, i will draw on the best of us, not the worst. I will be an ally of the light, not the darkness. Its time for us, for we, the people, to come together. So its with great honor and humility, i accept this nomination for president of the United States of america. Reporter in his biggest speech of nearly five decades in national politics, biden explaining why hes for all americans. While ill be a democratic candidate, i will be an american president. Ill work hard for those who didnt support me, as hard for them as those who did vote for me. Thats the job of a president. To represent all of us, not just our base or our party. This is not a partisan moment. This must be an american moment. Reporter and why he says its crucial for voters to go to the polls this november. This is a lifechanging election. This will determine what america is going to look like for a long, long time. And the choice could not be more clear. No rhetoric is needed. Just judge this president on the facts. Reporter without ever naming President Trump, biden slammed his handling of the crises he says the nation is facing, including the coronavirus pandemic. Our current president has failed in his most basic duty to the nation. Hes failed to protect us. Hes failed to protect america. And my fellow americans, that is unforgivab unforgivable. Reporter the former Vice President saying he wants to help heal a hurting and divided nation. Look, i understand. I understand how hard it is to have any hope right now. I found the best way through pain and loss and grief is to find purpose. Reporter biden also taking time to praise his new running mate, Kamala Harris. Shes a powerful voice for this nation. Her story is the american story. No ones been tougher on the big banks and on the gun lobby. No ones been tougher in calling out the Current Administration for its extremism wib, its fail to follow the law, its failure to simply tell the truth. Reporter and before viewers could send in their applause online, biden made this pledge to the american people. May history be able to say that the end of this chapter of american darkness begin here, tonight, as love and hope and light join in the battle for the soul of the nation. And this is a battle we will win and well do it together. I promise you. Reporter so now we have 74 days until election day. A biden aide telling cnn, this is when the real hard work begins. But this virtual remote convention, this reimagined convention has given them new confidence, this person said, to really campaign in this new way. So expect to see more of the same of what we have been seeing from the biden campaign. And thats virtual events, small events kind of in this area. No expectations right now, alisyn, for joe biden to be hitting the road in any traditional sense of campaigning. Of course, the rnc picks up on monday. Passing the baton to them, so well see the festivities begin there on monday. Alisyn . Yes, we will, jessica. Thank you very much for setting the table for us. Joining us now, Bakari Sellers and jen psaki. Jen is the former Communications Director for the obama white house. Good morning. Great to see both of you good morning. Bakari, let me just start with you. I know that joe biden wasnt your first choice of all of the candidates, so how do you think he did last night . That was a pretty loaded question there. He did great hes awesome. He was you know, he got his groove. And what we saw last night was passionate joe. And what we also saw last night was a clear contrast between the man right now whos occupying the white house. I thought the setting was amazing. I thought this was a very, very difficult convention to pull off, but they did. Each night, you had individuals who were able to break through the screen. I mean, its hard to really do that well on zoom, but you had michelle obama, the first night, jill biden, the second night. You had Kamala Harris on night three and joe biden capped it off. It was a Great Convention. And everybody, i know, is so excited for the next 75day or so sprint. My question was going to be, bakari, why is that manren withn this morning, which i think, at least based on what im seeing on social media, a lot of democrats have this morning, jen psaki. And you have noted, because you worked in the white house with joe biden, that youve seen a lot of biden speeches and this was the best, if not the best youve seen him give. What about it did you find so effective . I think what he did effectively is he told the story of who he is. That is partly through the video who led into his speech, but he was able to weave in his own tragedies, his own journey, his childhood, his life as the kid from scranton who survived the loss of his wife and daughter and rode amtrak back and forth to the senate, and connect that to what he would do as president. So, thats hard to do. And its hard to do in a moment when the expectations are incredibly high, but he did that while also listing us up and giving us a vision of what a future could look like. A lot of people knew, of course, knew who joe biden was. Hes the democratic nominee for president. But they only knew that he was Barack Obamas Vice President and that he wasnt donald trump. And he gave us a lot more to work with last night. A lot of democrats, like bakari and others who may not have supported him in the primary, something to wrap their arms around and get excited about. And thats pretty important for this period of time, just over 70 days out from the election. Bakari, he also talked about coronavirus, and basically said it didnt have to go this way. It didnt have to become the catastrophe, the National Catastrophe that it is. So heres that moment. After all of this time, the president still does not have a plan. Well, i do. If im your president on day one, well implement the National Strategy ive been laying out since march. Well develop and deploy rapid tests with results available immediately. Well have a National Mandate to wear a mask, not as a burden, but as a patriotic duty to protect one another. In short, well do what we should have done from the very beginning. Our current president has failed, in his most basic duty to the nation. Hes failed to protect us. Hes failed to protect america. And my fellow americans, that is unforgivable. Bakari, has coronavirus kind of preempted or eclipsed every other policy announcement he would make . Yes, i think that what were seeing is this is going to be, among the many issues, i think the fwhurnumber one issue is a referendum on the handling of coronavirus. Its going to be very difficult for donald trump, plainly speaking, to overcome 150,000 dead americans. To overcome an economy that has cratered and millions of individuals jobless because of his inaction, incompetence, and ine ineptitu ineptitude. I think its fascinating last night, to watch what a president should really look like, versus the flailing that you will see from donald trump. Also to jens point about the oratory. We sit back when it comes to these speeches and try to see who gave a good speech and how they delivered it. Not mentioning donald trump last night was purposeful. Very intentional. And it played extremely well. Because what it looked like was joe biden was the adult in the room. And so, im interested to see the Republican Convention in the future coming up, because its difficult to pull these off. So a shoutout to all of the staffers on both sides, who are working endless hours to give us the production, to show the better angels of our nature in this country. Im curious, though, if youre a plant worker in michigan or pennsylvania or someone at home around the country, whos lost a job because of coronavirus, and you watched this, jen. Whats in this for me, you might be asking . What is it that joe biden is proactively offering m ining me. I see weaponized aggressive empathy, and thats a thing. Caring in and of itself is a thing, but is that enough . What else was there . There was a lot of substantiative policy ideas in his speech. It was packed into his emotion and packed into his appeal for higher angels. But he talked a lot about what he would do on covid to help recovery. Not just on the health side, but including on the education side, on the economic side. He talked about building on the Affordable Care act. What i heard a lot from the Convention Last night was an effort to also reach out. An effort to build a bridge. And thats pretty controversial, because a lot of democrats felt frustrated that they didnt hear more red meat, but at the end of the day, the reason joe biden is here is because hes someone who cannot only speak to the empathy, but speak to kind of whats hurting people and how hes going to fight for them. And i thought actually when vivek murthy, the doctor spoke and said joe biden would, you know, listen to the briefings and he would ask tough questions or ask smart questions, thats something that sits with you, if youre a factory worker, if youre a teacher, if youre a mom, if youre a parent. And thats a stark contrast, unfortunately, to the president we have sitting in the white house today. There was a touching moment last night. His a 13yearold, Braden Harrington, who speaks with a stutter, met joe biden and joe biden told them they are members of the same club. So lets listen to this speech from braden. Hi, my name is Braden Harrington and im 13 years old. And without joe biden, i wouldnt be talking to you today. About a few months ago, i met him in new hampshire. He told me that we were members of the same club. We stutter. It was really amazing to hear that someone like me of became Vice President. He told me about a book of poems by yates he would read out loud to practice. He showed me how he marks his addresses to make them easier to say out loud, so i did the same thing today. And now im here talking to you today about the future. About our future. My family often says when the world feels better before of talking about something normal, like going to the movies. Of we all want the world to feel better. We need the world to feel better. Im just a regular kid and in a short amount of time, joe biden made moving forward confident about something thats bothered me my whole life. Joe biden cared. Imagine what he could do for all of us. Kids like me are counting on you to elect someone we can all look up to. Someone who cares. Someone who will make our country and the world feel better. Were counting on you to elect joe biden. Future White House Press secretary right there. That was so touching and moving. Bakari . Go ahead, jen, what are your thoughts . Look, i am a mom, i have two little kids, and i get choked up just watching that, because what a brave little boy and it tells you so much about how w. Hwho jo is, and everybody has stories like that. Hes late to events and meetings because he spends time with a child or a mother who lost a son. Thats the core of who he is. And even looking back, you know, just on the theatrics of the convention, the stars and the people we will remember are less the political speeches, aside from of course the ones bakari talked about, but more the people, the videos. Etes etellla, the little girl whose mother was deported. Braden harrington last night. That was such a brilliant way of scripting and telling the story of who joe biden is and the contrast this week. And i would just echo, bakari, that the Convention Team deserves a lot of credit for that. It was hard and i count myself a skeptic going into this week, but i feel very good right now. To quote an American Hero of mine, john berman, that was aggressive empathy. And i think what you saw last night and i think we can say this with some accuracy, that there are individuals in this country who do not feel welcome in Donald Trumps america. But joe biden is with that empathy is showing that we have open arms and showing us what a leader should look like. And so i think that he brayden was a star last night. It was very emotional and im glad we were able to get through this convention and the next 75 days is going to be a sprint for all of these democrats. And i think youre supposed to as a viewer, ask the question, who could do that with donald trump . Wheres the 13yearold kid in america who would vouch for that moment where donald trump lifted him up and changed their lives . There were a lot of moments like that, too, with the family, bidens family talking about him. How joe biden talked about his wife. There were moments where you were, as a viewer, meant to ask that question. Well, well see. Well see next week. Im sure theyre going to take some cues from the dnc. And coming up in our 8 00 a. M. Hour, john berman will have an opportunity to ask that very question of Vice President mike pence about next weeks Republican Convention, as well as, of course, the latest on coronavirus. Of course, so wheres the president ial race go from here . Well break down what we know about the Republican Convention and joe bidens strategy going forward, which is unusual. Thats next. Breathe happy febreze. La la la la la. So new this morning, with 74 days to go in election day, a Senior Adviser tells cnn that they are unsure if joe biden will ever get to campaign in person. But that the convention is giving them new confidence that theyll able to get their message out despite the pandemic. Joining us now, cnn political commentator, terry mcauliffe, the former governor of virginia and the former chair of the dnc. Thanks so much for being with us this morning. Interesting to hear that joe biden might never travel, might never go to swing states to campaign there. Im curious what you think were going to hear next week from the Republican Convention. Theyve already previewed some of the things were going to talk about. Joe biden, fourdecade washington insider. Donald trump would be tougher on china than joe biden. Crime on the streets. Thats something they continually lean into. Any of those where you think the Vice President is vulnerable . Well, first of all, john, he may not campaign in the fall. Health, safety, number one issue. So weve got to determine where we are with the covid crisis. I think several months ago, if you said joe biden wouldnt go to the convention, wouldnt speak at the convention, oh, that cant happen. We actually had a Great Convention and real people got to talk about real issues and it worked out. So well see where we are in the covid crisis. I think next week for the republicans, its theyre going to have a hatefest on joe biden. I think thats very hard for them after what you just saw the last four days, the compassion, the empathy, you saw the story, which you showed earlier of brayden. You saw estella talk about her mother be deported and kristen talk about her father who died because trump did not do what he needed to do in the covid crisis. So four days of setting up who joe biden is, compassionate, a leader, got things done, violence against women act. I think a lot of people didnt know that joe biden, that was his signature issue. When he campaigned for me in virginia, thats all he talked about. So weve laid the predicate there of who he is. I think its going to be hard for them next week. They cant talk about their record. Thats the interesting thing, so all they can do is attack biden. I just dont think that works. Well, President Trump, as you know, is holding rallies around the country. Do you think that it will hurt joe biden politically, not to be out on the trail . No, i think it will hurt donald trump if hes out on the trail with large rallies. Weve already seen this, the rallies where people have gone to in tulsa, where people got covid after they went to it. Herman cain is not alive today. He had gone to that rally. You know, trump at the convention, he was in north carolina. Then he moved into jacksonville and then he was forced to cancel it. He looks like a fool as it relates to a convention. Joe biden looked like a president. Leadership, came out and said, no, were not going to do it. Im keeping people safe. So alisyn, the more they do that is really the contrast, which you saw last night. Joe biden will lead on the covid crisis. He will get our economy back. And trump and pence will just flail around and if they want to put peoples lives in jeopardy, thats their choice, but its a huge mistake. Governor, there was something unusual that happened last night at the dnc, and that was julia louis drivie louisdreyfus whos an actress and a comedian did a bit of a standup routine. She made some sort of biting jokes about President Trump. Let me play a little montage for you. When donald trump spoke at his inauguration about american carnage, i assumed that was something he was against, not a campaign promise. We can help you find the best and safest way to vote in your state. Simply text vote to 30330 to learn more. 30330. Its actually not that hard to remember. Watch person, woman, man, camera, tv, 30330. Anyone can do it. Just remember, joe biden goes to church so regularly that he doesnt even need tear gas and a bunch of federalized troops to help him get there. What did you think, governor, was that appropriate for the dnc . Sure. I mean, you know, she was the star of veep. Everybody knows who she is. You have a mixture of four days of programming, very serious, heartwrenching. I mean, watching brayden talk about his stuttering issue, im telling you, you want to talk about something that really gets to your heart, that was it last night. But then, on the other hand, youre going to have comedians. But sure win mean, its a convention, theres something there for everybody. And the point theyre trying to make is, these are things that donald trump has actually done or said. Hes a comedians, you know, they love him because of the things that he has actually said, which is almost unbelievable. But, you know, once they get highlighted, your responsible for the actions and the things that you say. Hes had many racist statements since hes been in office. I dealt with him. I was governor of virginia during charlottesville when he said there were good people on both sides. This is who donald trump is. The criticism that it was jarrijar i ing, emotionally jarring, because that video about going to church came right after about a video of joe bidens faith and twitter was up in arms. All the check marks on twitter were up in arms about Julia Louisdreyfus saying that the jokes werent working. But joe biden for the duration of this entire campaign has done the opposite of what twitter wanted him to do. So maybe if twitter doesnt like it, it did land. Theres a big much bigger, broader audience, as you well know. But charlottesville is his worst moment as president and right after it is when he went to the church and held up that bible. But four days of who joe biden is. Very important. People walked away saying, i know this guy, but guess what. Joe biden is going to fight for me, fight for my job, keep us safe. And that is what came out of that convention. Terry mcauliffe, thank you so much for being puwith us. John, alisyn, great to be with you. The United States reporting another day of more than 1,000 coronavirus deaths. Florida reporting more than 10,000 total deathses. But that state is showing some signs of progress, cases and hospitalizations are going down, but the Positivity Rate remains high. Joining us now is dr. Aileen marty, an Infectious Disease specialist at Florida International university. Dr. Marty, great to see you. Dr. Redfield, the director of the cdc, said that he believes that next week, we are going to see the death rate throughout the country start dropping. And that two weeks from now, it will be significant. Do you agree with that optimistic assessment . Well, alisyn, i certainly hope that that will be true. Its all based, you know, thats a lagging indicator. So it really depends on whats happening a few weeks before in terms of the death rate. Whats happening here in miami, for example, is we are getting better. We have fewer people in the hospital right now, with covid19, but we do have two new cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome this children, as of yesterday. And some of our patients who have gone home are coming back into the hospital, because of the recurrence of symptoms that can be severe. Another thing that dr. Redfield said is hes beginning to wonder, and he says federal scientists are beginning to wonder if theres some level of immunity that is helping to ward off cases, in addition to the mitigation. Hes talking specifically about the northeast. One of the reasons he says the rates may be so low in the northeast, because of cases were so bad here before. What do you think of that . Well, theres so many different variables that its hard to know exactly what is leading to the different shifts. And there has been a shift in behavior, as well. I do think that there is a buildup of immunity, but were nowhere near what could be considered herd immunity for this infection, yet. And soof course, were now lookg at labor day just a couple not too far into the future. And that could pose problems two weeks after that. Dr. Marty, one of the things that you say that youre seeing is that Covid Patients who got better, or who went to the hospital, improved, were sent home, and are now coming back. Whats that about . So, many of the patients have what we call lingering symptoms, often, its fatigue or shortness of breath, headaches, sometimes. Sometimes waking up at night with fevers, again, and some of them are sick enough, some of the patients that we had sent home are sick enough that theyre coming back into the hospital and their degree of illness is such that were having to readmit them. This is a very, very potent virus in a lot of individuals. And so, thats whats going on. We just put it up on the screen, this is a new study out of england. 74 of survivors struggle with symptoms for months. Thats debilitating, including breathlessness, excessive fatigue, poor quality of life and struggle with daily tafgsks. Thats something i imagine you have to keep in mind when you diminish the notion that this is severe. Well, yeah, john. And those are the more common problems. There are also less common problems that are longterm. Lets not forget that this illness can also cause these little microthrombodies that has led people to lose their limbs, to strokes, to heart problems, to other lung problems. And recuperation from this is challenging. Dr. Eileen marty, always a pleasure to speak with you. Thanks for being with us and thanks for the work youre doing in florida. Developing overnight, former secretary of state james baker and his wife, susan, have now both tested positive for coronavirus. They are recovering in isolation at their home in houston. Russian doctors are refusing to let Opposition Leader alexny navalny leave the country for treatment after he was allegedly poisoned. Navalny is hospitalized and in a coma. A spokesperson says the ban on transporting him is a direct threat to his life. Cnns Matthew Chance live in moscow with more. Obviously, there are so Many Political and medical implications here, matthew. Yeah, absolutely. And the reason that doctors have given for not allowing alexny navalny to be medevaced on to a plane thats been waiting for him on the runway in the siberian city of omsk is because hes still unstable and not well enough to be moved at this stage. Having said that, they also say, look, weve tested him for various toxins. We havent found any poison inside him. And at the moment, the doctors are saying, we dont believe alexny navalny was poisoned. But listen to those screams of agony that were caught by a fellow passenger onboard the aircraft on thursday when it made an Emergency Landing in omsk after alexny navalny, russias most outspoken kremlin critic, remember, was taken severely and acutely ill. Clearly, hes in a very distressed and painful situation. The navalny team, those around him, his supporters, are saying is that they believe, still, that he has been poisoned. They also say that they believe that the hospital authorities in omsk are not telling the entire truth. They say that theres a toxin thats been found. Police, they say, have told them this. A toxin has been found. But the hospital authorities are simply waiting for traces of that substance to sort of leave the body of alexny navalny, so when he is transferred to a foreign clinic, possibly that one in germany, they wont be able to find any evidence of it. Its a theory, its not supported by evidence, but its what the navalny team are saying at the moment, john. Ill take it, matthew. The idea that the hospital is not on the side of the patient is sounds particularly diabolical, but we know that youll keep us posted on whats happening there. Thank you very much for the report. Also, developing this morning, not one, but two tropical systems are forecast to become hurricanes and make landfall along the gulf coast in the coming days. Cnn meteorologist Allison Chinchar is tracking it for us. This would be frightening, for two of them to hit at the same time. Yeah. And the first time in probably about 60 years that you would have two storms, at least at Tropical Storm strength or stronger, to be in the gulf simultaneously. So lets start from the beginning. Lets see where they are now to understand where theyre going to go. You have tropical depression 13 and tropical depression 14. Both of these are likely to become Tropical Storms, likely in the next 24 hours. The next two names on the list are laura and marco. But which gets which name depends entirely on which one can intensify faster. Heres a look at 13. Heres where we believe this particular track is expected to go. Making its way towards puerto rico, turks and caicos, into areas of the bahamas and northern cuba before potentially crossing over areas like miami or the florida keys as we get to the day monday. Now we switch gears to tropical depression 14. This is the one thats going to go over the yucatan peninsula over the weekend before finally making it out over open water in the gulf. At that point, thats when we anticipate this one specifically to start to intensify, perhaps into a category 1 hurricane. But again, if you were listening to me when i was talking about the timing, notice that these two are really going to enter the gulf at just about the same time. The question then becomes, where do they go from there . It is entirely possible that you could have one of them may feel a landfall around somewhere in florida, late on the day monday, while also keeping an eye on the separate system headed towards texas or louisiana on tuesday. Then the original storm, perhaps making a second landfall somewhere else in the gulf, again on wednesday. So again, theres a lot of factors here at play here, but again, this could be one of those where we have to watch things monday, tuesday, and wednesday, all for potential landfalls. Okay, Allison Chinchar, thanks for keeping an eye on it for us. So President Trump trying to distance himself from steve bannon, after his former chief strategist was charged with defrauding donors. Overnight, President Trumps former strategist steve bannon leaving a federal courthouse after posting bail and pleading not guilty, there he is, without the mask. Charges that he allegedly defrauded donors of hundreds of thousands of dollars from a private effort to build a border wall called we build the wall. Now, bannon is the tenth tenth associate of President Trump who has now been charged with a crime. Joining us now, cnn chief legal analyst, jeffrey toobin. The trump administration, a boon for lawyers across america. I think well get to the extraordinary notion that so many people connected to the president have been charged with crime in a second, jeffrey. But first, steve bannon in particular, this crime. What is he charged with doing and how likely is a conviction . Its a pretty straightforward case. Bannon was involved with this charity. And they repeatedly made the case to their donors, we are not taking a dime, a penny, of any of the money you contribute. The charges say, and there are apparently emails and texts to back this up, that the four conspirators secret agreed that they would put a substantial amount of that money, hundreds of thousands of dollars, in their own pockets. And apparently, there are financial records to back that up. In federal court, 90 plus percent, even more than that, 95 of people who are indicted either are convicted or plead guilty. So, steve bannon is just in a world of trouble. Heres another bit of evidence. They raised 25 million, jeffrey, and they built less than five miles of wall, which is actually, also, crumbling or not considered structurally sound. Right. I mean, this whole operation shows every sign of being a scam, top to bottom. And the other thing thats so interesting about the case is that it shows these four sort of Republican Leaders treating the actual trump supporters, the people who are, you know, who are the president s base, as a bunch of suckers and dupes and marks. And the contempt with which they apparently treated the actual people who support President Trump is kind of is one of the more shocking elements of this crime. I think youre exactly right. I think its extraordinary there. Theyre using the passion created by President Trump to raise money for themselves, to bilk, allegedly, the very people who are his base. You know, donald trump jr. Appeared at a fundraiser, appeared in an effort for this group, although he says it was just one time and he never supported it. Go figure that. Theres a panoply of fox news hosts that touted it. I mean, over and over again. We have a little bit of a montage, but it went much further than this, so just watch a few moments of this. We build the wall and founded by an air force veteran, broke ground last month. Here to tell us why he did this, what he hopes to achieve is brian himself. All right, brian. Joining me now, brian kolfage. How are you doing on the private money raising for a wall . Were doing incredibly great. And its all american citizens who are donating to this project. If people want to donate to that wall and give their money, they can do it. Whats 80 bucks from 60 million people. There it is, jeffrey. How great is that . Like, the cynicism is so astonishing, top to bottom here. And by the way, they raised 25 million. You know, which is not a trivial sum of money. They didnt steal it all, but 25 million from these loyal trump supporters. It makes you wonder about the culture surrounding President Trump, that bannon is now the tenth charged with a crime who was close to the president , including so many of the Senior Campaign staff and senior white house staff, too. And i want to let you know that video we just played was from media matters. They put that montage together. Thank you very much, jeffrey. Andy scholes has more in the bleacher report. Hi, andy. One of the reasons the big 10 and pac 12 said they would not be playing football this fall is all of the unknowns still surrounding covid19 and the heart condition, myocarditis, which can develop after having the infection.
