Donald trumps attacks are always so personal and come off personal. If you look at the washington abc poll, not only do 60 of the voters bloelieve hes unfit to president , but they also believe he goes too far when attacking whoever hes attacking. Here i think it works against him when hes personally attacking Hillary Clinton, because most of the women voters in that poll show that he goes too far. This is a historical election. Again, he cant grow beyond his base with these attacks. All the polls are showing that his message in these attacks simply arent resonating outside of his base supporters. One thing that stands out is that 2 3 after the Democratic National convention and all of those character witnesses, namely Chelsea Clinton coming out and talking about the former secretary, still 66 of those respondents believe she is too willing to bend the rules. What should the campaign be doing to turn those numbers around . I think both candidates have high negatives in this area, trumps in most polls being higher. Heres the thing. The other variables on temperament, fitness, ability to handle even trade, taxes, terrorism, clinton is beating him in these polls because his message of attacking and saying i can do it, the attacks on the khans,infighting with the republicans he cant win with those voters he got in the primary. Hes got to grow. Even if hes on message, that message isnt growing beyond those 14 million voters. I want your take on why donald trump is now questioning the mental stability of Hillary Clinton. Let me say before we get to your answer here, when antitrump forces were doing this a week ago we questioned them as well. Why is this appropriate . I think its because hes just throwing back at them what theyve thrown at him. If you want to say that either of these folks have any mental instability, thats not only disrespecting the candidate but the people who are supporting him. What you risk doing by having this type of conversation is youre risking millions of people who support them in the past and who are supporting them now. Its a very dangerous game. Being back on message we know that earlier in the week you took issue with this term intervention with donald trump that you thought was inappropriate. But he seems to be focusing on Hillary Clinton now even in a scripted way. Would you say he is back on message and this is the appropriate message questioning her Mental Health . My point about intervention was thats a word we usually use for someone whos a drug addict or alcoholic and donald trump doesnt drink and hes quite a normal human being. Did he need a refocusing of his campaign . Absolutely. Does that happen all the time in every campaign . It certainly does. George bush, the first one, began the campaign 17 points behind michael dukakis. The position hes in right now even with the latest poll being behind by only 8 given the week that he had, i think is actually a good one. Also the other part that i find optimistic about it is hes doing so well among independents. Hes doing very poorly among women, 23 points behind Hillary Clinton. Hes going to have to improve that. How . He has to speak to the issues of education in which hes in favor of choice in charter schools, and Hillary Clinton is a complete fully dominated by the Teachers Union and has no options there. Shes not going to embrace vouchers. Shes not going to embrace choice. The way the Public Schools are serving today, i think safety is a big issue to women. And the fact is the world isnt safe. Theres an article in the times today saying russia has basically won in syria. President obama and Hillary Clinton handed russia to syria, just gave it to them. Those issues you think those close the gap between clinton and trump with women . With all due respect to mayor giuliani, as a woman, i would say wages are important to me and eliminating those wage disparities. Thats why im grateful that obamas first act was signing the Lily Ledbetter act into law. Also the minimum wage. I now that donald Trump Supporters continue to bash the state of the economy. Yet and still as President Trump says that he would not increase the minimum wage. So i think therein lies a problem as well. Its not just safety im concerned about. Although if we were going to talk about safety and the threat of terrorism to this country, we know this poll also has Hillary Clinton ahead. Let me ask you about the economy. We know the economic advisors have been announced. There will be an economic speech in detroit coming up in the week. Earlier on in the show we had a trump spoupport eer who said th trump will focus on making quality child care affordable and accessible for all and he will fight for equal pay for equal work. And she will fight alongside him. Are there policies coming to support those affirmations . Sure. Absolutely. The way hes going to approach it and the issue is a very good one. First of all, donald trump has made it clear that he would consider an increase in the minimum wage. Hed like it to be done state by state. But hed also consider an increase in the minimum wage from the point of view of the federal government. He also pointed out, as did ivanka, that he was one of the first to. Appoint a woman ceo for basically a construction business. Where is the policy to support these . He also has made the point that he has a disproportionate number of women working for him at the same wage as men. What about on the campaign . What about the fact theres not a single woman named to the economic advisors list . The reality is you have to take the people supporting you, the people that agree with you i think a much better indication is what hes done over his whole lifetime which is to appoint women where other people havent to give women the same wages as men to be a leader in the forefront in giving women the ability to take time off when they have children. This is what hes done in the multibillion Dollar Corporation that he runs. So im sure thats precisely what hes going to do as United States. Let me give you another number from this poll. Still, after the four days at the dnc and there was a significant bump that came out of that convention. Hillary clinton still sits at 66 of the respondents who say she is too willing to bend the rules. What is the campaign doing . What should the campaign be doing to over turn those numbers . One of the things she said recently is that she knows that trust has to be earned. She has to demonstrate over time that she is a better, more qualified, more trustworthy candidate. The best way for her to do that is to prevent saying things like i short circuited. If there is some accusation that trump is carrying putins water or Something Like that, why not simply make it instead of just throwing it out there and saying well let you guess. I think its clear in the ad theyre not in a position to make any affirmative states of trumps dealings with putin. They dont have the evidence of this. They do have this dnc email hack. There was this out cry of how dare you and then of course these hacks were attributed to russia. So there are some challenges here in trying to understand what is russias interest in this election if not to destroy the Democratic Party or to try to tear it apart and they were unsuccessful. But they havent done the same thing with the rnc. It is highly questionable. What is their interest here . There also seems to be this love affair with putin and trump. Theyre constantly complimenting one another. I think that a reasonable person would ask questions. Thats what they did in the ad. Its a good ad. Should there be more charity from donald trump about his connections to russia . First of all, i think the last person who would talk about russia is Hillary Clinton. She reset the relationship with russia. Since then putin has been pushing it all over the globe, ukraine, crimea. Russia wasnt in syria before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state. Just a week ago it also appeared that donald trump didnt know that russia was in crimea. Russia hasnt been in the middle east for the last four decades. Its obama setting 12 red lines and saying if assad grocrossed those lines he would do something. Assad did. He used chemical weapons and obama backed down. He brought putin in. What about any connections to russia . Should he be cleared. Donald trump has no substantial connections to russia that i know of. Substantial. He has no substantial connections to russia. Releasing his taxes would offer that clarity, would it not . First of all, the reality is the taxes wouldnt tell you whether or not you have investments in russia. Youd have to do quite an examination of the Business Books and records. Theres also this whole issue of there are a lot of people, a lot of russians who are antiputin who have invested in the United States. I happen to represent some of them, by the way. The fact is if youve got russian money, doesnt necessarily mean youre aligned with putin. Putin is very much against money leaving russia. If youre telling me money is coming out of russia, i would tell you youre talking about money coming from antiputin people who are trying to protect their assets against putin possibly taking it away from them. It shows a complete lack of knowledge of how russia operates. Its this administration that has allowed russia to push us around the world. Were running low on time. This is a perfect example of why this is a great ad. If it takes you this long to explain it, youve got a challenge on your hands. Would you have changed anything . I guess maybe i would have. But as an example, we had so much fun that day. Dr. Jill stein accepting the green partys nomination in houston. Making a direct appeal to Bernie Sanders supporters. While supporters chanted, jill, not hill. That was actually a hashtag as well. To talk about the policy shed bring to the white house, dr. Jill stein joining us this morning. Good morning, doctor. Thanks for being with us. I wanted to get into some of your policies here for people who may not know about them. First of all, the Washington Post detailed some of your positions including that the government should provide a job to anyone who cant get one in the private sector. What was interesting is they said in your vision, employment would be an enforceable right, presumably meaning workers could sue the government if it didnt provide them a job. The first thing that comes to mind is how do you place those people . How do you train those people . How would this work . Right. Well fortunately we have a good example of the new deal which got us out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. The idea now is to create 20 million jobs in order to meet the emergency of the economy and actually create a productive economy which is producing stuff and at the same time to meet the emergency of Climate Change so that in one fell swoop we create johns that focus on green energy, on a healthy and Sustainable Food system and on Public Transportation and on restoring critical infrastructure, including ecosystems. And the goal is to revive the economy, turn the tide on Climate Change and to make wars for oil obsolete. Let me just say up front that there are two major efficiencies here that provide the money to pay for this. Were going to get into that in a moment. I wanted to talk policy first. Then on the other side of the break were going to talk about how to make this all happen financially. I did want to talk to you about your belief that you want to bring a 15 minimum wage into effect. And guarantee a minimum income for all americans including those who cannot work because theyre sick, disabled or caring for children or other loved ones. I think the first thing people think of is give a man a fish or teach a man to fish. How does this give someone the enticement or motivation to better themselves, to take responsibility for themselves . So let me just say that the goal of guaranteed minimum income is really a visionary goal and not actually one of the practical goal posts of our agenda. Thats more a longterm goal. I think thats still something about which theres a lot of discussion. There are some experiments in that around the world, but its not something that im really prepared to move forward at this point. That is not a specific policy position for the campaign. On the other hand, 15 minimum wage definitely is. Free child care for all parents. We know that Hillary Clinton wants a goal of limiting expenses to 10 of any familys income. But when weve got free child care for all people, 15 dollar minimum wage, jobs for all americans, its something that definitely is going to take some money to handle. And so lets get into this right now because i think weve got some time. How do you pay for all of those programs . So for one thing, the green new deal, because it transitions us quickly by 2030 to 100 clean renewable energy, it enables us to begin pulling back on our bloated and dangerous military budget so that we save hundreds of billions of dollars by ending these wars for oil which have actually been rather catastrophic and which are in fact making us less secure not more secure, creating failed states, mass refugee migration and worse terrorist threats. We call for downsizing the military and putting that money into our needs at home. Were currently spending about a trillion dollars a year. Thinking surely my taxes would go up as well. Actually your taxes its about half of your taxes right now which are paying for the military, in fact. Few people know that. About 44 of your income taxes. Well talk about that. Im sorry.
